Dear XDA, your forums suck. - About xda-developers.com

Ok, sorry in advance for the thread title. It's true though. Performance (on either desktop or mobile) is incredibly slow.
There are so many ads that load that on mobile a full minute can go by and the whole page still hasn't loaded.
Ad placement is also so terrible that clicking on links often results in clicking on something else completely because an ad loaded late and pushed content down the screen.
Link placement itself is a PITA. Care to guess how many times I've accidentally unsubscribed from forums because the links are so close together?

The problem doesn't really get any better on your mobile app as there are so many missing browsing features as to make it undesirable to use. By undesirable, I mean bamboo shoots under the fingernails would be preferable.
I know money has a part to play in this. I'm sure the budget is tight and you need every penny from ad sales. But the overall usability of the site is going to drive me away (again) because it hasn't been implemented well at all.
I say these things because I care, not because I'm angry. Thanks for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Me

SideLoaders - Sickipedia app, looking for someone to take it over

Hi all,
Wrote this as a friend wanted it on his phone got bounced by the marketplace (god knows why).
Code is fairly solid but could use some work posting the source and XAP here for someone to take over the development.
In short its been sitting on my machine for an age with nothing happening. If anyone wants to have a play etc then go for it.
Please note this is released under GPL. In short don't pass this off as yours and go around making money!
What do you have against others making money off something you have up'd for free that isn't done? No-one is going to make money if they're always half-way-there [bon jovi jokes are a must].
Not making money par-say but people stealing the code and claiming as their own then hogging all the rights to it.

The code works, the app runs. Half-way wouldn't be a fair description. I'm providing the work I've done to date for free so that someone can carry on working on it as a free open source project. I think that seems fair.
Probably got bounced because marketplace doesn't allow "Adult, racist, homophobic, etc." content
I wrote a Sickipedia app myself before Windows Phone 7 even came out, lloked like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But I guess I'll have a look at this sometime and see if I can do anything for it
Yeh very similar look to mine. Think you win on UI design tho.
Im happy to work with you on the UI and roll with your Code if you like ? Wouldnt want to put my name all over it and could be released on here once finalised as a colaboration ?
Hi,
Would love to but the work load with my university course is getting very heavy and so I don't really have any time to dedicate to a project right now.
I am more than happy for you to take my code and re-do the UI and release to XDA users.
You could try to republish the app.
The 'exit' exception you're throwing is not allowed, and will definitely get your submission denied.
private void button2_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
throw new Exception("I want to close the application");
}
You really should just remove the entire first page. This is just asking them to notice the 'ethics' violation.
Never really had anyone look over my code before, bit of a strange feeling knowing people are looking at my work!
I do agree while strictly true the exception is against the rules it shouldn't cause the app to fail certification as it will still conform to the policies.
I'm not really too interested in republishing as it was directly refused on ethics grounds and I find myself kind of agreeing with them.

Android Developers Shirt(s)

First of all, (to mods), there isn't really a section for this... since it's not erally off topic (cause it's related... just can't find a place to put it), if you've got a better place for this, please move it
Since I just started developing for android, and I have an ego the size of my... muscles, I made a shirt on Zazzle for Android developers.
Unfortunately, it's not cheap (typical Zazzle) at $27, but it's pretty neat looking.
That's my store/thing, they make you sell it through that, and it looks terrible because I'm not interested in selling stuff as a profession, that's why I'm an android developer!

I was just looking for some feedback I might make some more, because the 'Android Developer' category of apparel is very small, I found only one other item that's for females, which means its really rare!
http://www.zazzle.com/android_developer_shirt-235706480561704515
The link goes to one that is slightly different than the one posted, mainly because I had to swap out the Android logo because you are not allowed to use the font.
I can't guarantee the quality yet, but I chose the american apparel t-shirt because I've had their value tshirts and they suck. I'll get back in touch when mine arrives.

Im thinking of grabbing an ANDROID DEVELOPER SHIRT myself!! EGO SKY HIGH

I asked @joebelfiore about the video out feature on wp7

In MIX10 we all noticed that Joe Belfiore can directly output the display of his Samsung WP7 Developer prototype phone onto the big screen.
You may search for the video demo "Joe Belfiore Demos Windows Phone 7" in Google.
I searched on internet and received not many info on this. So I directly asked him on twitter @joebelfiore and he replied me in message.

This img is from my thread I posted just now on Chinese forum...I am a Chinese...
If anyone like me want to give presentations just as Joe did with his WP7 phone, I think the hope is not shinny~May rather buy a Nokia N8 or even Nokia 5800.
Some android devices like HTC Incredible and Samsung Galaxy S support tv out,too.
Just a bit disappointed~I used to hope to introduce WP7 devices to the company I serve as work phones. But it doesn't support VPN, and has no tv out, not to mention the NFC. You can't even copy the office file directly to your Phone without unlocking it. Maybe to choose android the other day, although it's Siemens here...
P.S If this post is supposed to cause any trouble because I mentioned the direct message from Mr. Joe Belfiore or the name of Siemens, just let me know and I will delete this right away. No means to make trouble.
----Edit----
Just like PG2G said on the 4th floor, firstly I am happy to see Joe answered my question directly without hiding something because people in his position usually don't do that. I am still a fan of Windows Phone 7 cuz I really don't want to show a game machine desktop (android and iOS) on the projector of a serious meeting room.
EDIT: nevermind
Lol... I'm sure another social network will make the cut, though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
While you didn't get the answer you'd ask for, it is pretty cool that someone in his position is actually listening to and answering people's questions.

Yeah, that's also what I think. People in his position hardly give feedback to normal people like you and me. So it's really nice of him to do so.
And that's why I still haven't give up the WP7 system, since I think letting all people in the meeting room to see my android desktop which looks like a game machine is not really a cool stuff~~~

That happens sometimes only happened to me a couple times a month
Yeah I had this happen to me a couple times
Sorry about that friend. The reason is most likely due to the Jelly Bean announcements; one of the admins came on the other day and said that there were 60,000 people logged in simultaneously.
I want to say thank you for making good posts to start with and not junk like some people do trying to scam the system simply to post "Thanks for a great ROM" in a dev thread. I sincerely appreciate that.

Today is my first day... not the day of Jelly Bean announcement.
Another thing: I expect xda-developers type forums to use highly scalable cloud to handle such high traffic spikes.
RightScale is a great tool which automatically launches new cloud servers from EC2, RackSpace Cloud etc upon needs.
@Sachin
Its a kind of warm welcoming Just kidding
It must be a coincidence Never mind!!!
I also encountered this couple of time, of course it wasn't on my first day to XDA
That happens to me too, but it quickly goes away. I just joined this forum, this is one of the best forums.

(moaning) captcha terror

I sometimes need DOZENS of
next next next next try fail try fail next next next next next try
- attempts ... just to make one posting. *meh*
Please lower the distortion level of the letter garbage that is presented to us.
It not only creates very bad vibes in me, it actually hurts my brain.
Today, when really desperate, I tried the audio version. That is even worse.
What about introducing a completely different scheme. Some sentence in written words that represents a mathematical formula that we have to solve, perhaps with random typos to hinder a clever programmer to override that? "One plust sefen minos four is what? Type it as a number. "
Or whatever. There must be better ways than the current despair.
Rant over

I don't have to input any captchas anymore. :victory:
Thank you, unknown forum master. THAT solved it.
:highfive: Enjoy whatever you do.

please for the love of....
First time user of the site and I mean seriously it just took me 20 tries to get a captcha that I could read with some confidence and finally succeed. Been lurking a long time... I'm scarcely going to post much if I have to keep dealing with that captcha. It would be a shame because I love the content on xda-devs SO MUCH. I want to participate. But this is seriously ridiculous.

I know replacing the captcha code will be non-trivial so lets start here: Please for the love of god at LEAST put the damn captcha that at the bottom of the form if its going to expire!
