Yeah I have same question. Right now I'm on Pie FW just because of Pixel Experience ROM. I want to try Havoc OS but it's using Oreo FW. Is it possible to flash Oreo FW safely? And which variant? Just asking because I have ARB no. 4 and I'm little bit scared of brick. So anyone? Thanks

I have upgraded to oreo a while ago, but battery doesnt seem to be as good as on nougat. I looked up a few posts but i am not sure which one to believe. Is there a good method on how to go back to nougat?

I don't see the difficulty, flash whole nougat oos, or for a custom ROM flash a Nougat firmware + custom ROM.

Latest TWRP, always
If you flash full Nougat OOS ROM no need to flash firmware

Where did you read ONLY? It's Oreo compatible. That's all. By definition a software is backward compatible except if expressly specified in changelog. Which is not the case here.
You've got all you need. Experiment now.

Updating to Oreo Firmware but not Rom...

Hi I am running a Nougat Rom that I am happy with for the moment but was wondering if it would be advisable to update to the new firmware anyway? Can you run a Nougat rom on the Oreo firmware and is there any benefit of doing so?
Thanks

No you can't run a nougat rom on a oreo firmware.
Oreo firmware is for Oreo ROM, and currently there is no downgrading again. If you are staying on Nougat, DO NOT upgrade the firmware.
what about using asop oreo rom ???

Just don't update if you don't need to. If you want to use OREO roms you update otherwise stay on nougat. Don't mess with the firmware if you don't need to.
if iam in oreo rom and then want install custom rom etc sundream rom basically nougat rom, must install nougat firmware too?

Issues will occur indeed, keep firmware and roms matched

Am I safe to proceed?

I'll be able to unlock my bootloader in less than 24h, and the first ROM I want to try is the Pixel Experience ROM (android P). I'm currently on MIUI 10 8.8.23 Global version. Can I just unlock the bootloader, flash RedWolf Recovery through adb, do a full wipe and flash Pixel ROM without worrying about ARB or anything?
Thanks!

Umm dude read my post again. I said I'm on MIUI 10 8.8.23 (which is the latest one), I don't want to flash MIUI, but I want to flash Pixel Experience ROM. How will that trigger ARB? I understand very well that if I want to go back to MIUI, I need to flash the latest version of MIUI available.

Just flash pixel ROM
For other custom ROMs do not flash any firmware file recommended by custom ROM developer, because those firmware files are 8.7.5 MIUI firmware. If you try to flash firmware files then you are going to brick your device

Not yet, still 2 hours to go.
I'm on the latest MIUI 10.0.0.1 stable Chinese.
I just want to flash the latest Global. Can I do this by just unlocking bootloader, flash RedWolf Recovery, then flash the latest Global recovery.zip file? Or do I need to worry about ARB?
If you want to go back, make sure you will flash these version or higher

Confused about flashing custom rom 9 pie on zui stock 2.5 bootloader..??

i suggest you to try flashing the new roms and in case you get a blue screen , qfil latest firmware to update bootloader , i dont think theres another way to check the bootloader version .
And dont worry getting a blue screen wont brick the device or anything , if you get it just boot back to twrp and follow the procedure for updating the bootloader through qfil (there are plenty of instructions available ,read em carefully and you will be fine).
PS: you need an updated bootloader only for roms which ship with latest kernel 4.4 and not 3.18 .
so yeah you can try pie roms which have 3.18 kernel without hesitation.
Also keep in mind that if you do decide to update the bootloader and flash roms with latest kernel , you need to flash vendortofactory.zip and new factory twrp due to new implementation so DO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY IN THE THREAD OF WHATEVER ROM YOU FLASH !
Mine is 3.18 kernal I guess I have to update my bootloader using qfil if want to flash pixel experience 9 pie
Can you send me the link for required files to update bootloader thanks ?

Yeah I know that... What I mean to say is. Most of the people download official ROM package from official website and try to flash update using custom recovery and this will cause mobile brick..
That's why Xiaomi suggest not to downgrade to Oreo after android pie update (miui android pie)

No it's a problem, even if you flashed firmware-less most of the functions won't work, at least that's what happened with me, no camera, no earpiece, no vibration and ofc more under the hood.
We're stuck on pie and even the custom ROMs need to be updated to the new vendor because the situation is the same.
Pie is so far so good but I'm surprised that exFAT isn't working!! now my sdcard is useless! i checked and the module is missing which is exfat.ko, don't know if they forgot to add it or what now!! also all the recoveries i tried give a problem with data and encryption so it need to be updated, other than that all is good.
Anyone tried latest xiaomi.eu build 9.3.25?

TBH I didn't try because of the problems I heard people were having. But with the original pie update I had to use orange fox recovery just to get out of encryption it was a mess. I am going to try to flash a pie rom but if you are flashing an Oreo MIUI make sure the firmware folder is not in the zip or you will brick your device.

Agreed. This seems a bit strange for me. Are you sure guys you cant simply go back to Oreo?
As long as anti is fine, it should not be a problem. Maybe there is a new mechanism now which we dont know.

I've Installed China and Global Pie then reflashed 10.2.2 without problems with MiFlash, haven't tried with custom recovery, i think you will not have problems.
Guess I will hold off MIUI Pie until its finalized.

Yes you can do anything if the anti version is same..
But Xiaomi recommends not to downgrade to Oreo after android pie update. (There won't be any problem as long as we use MiFlash tool)
Maybe Xiaomi will introduce new anti version for stable android pie update
Here http://en.miui.com/thread-6004916-1-1.html you can read moderator suggests not to flash Oreo ROM after updating to android pie.
Maybe Xiaomi moderator mentions same thing for our device during public beta release
For those stuck on the new miui pie, a possible solution:
