Bought an AT&T S9+ In UK & Need Help - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi all.
I've bought an S9+ off Ebay in the UK and assumed that I'd be sent a UK model but instead I've received a USA AT&T Snapdragon version.
I've been on xda some time now and am used to rooting and flashing roms for UK versions but not the USA versions.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? Ideally I'd only want to root it but unsure how to approach it. There doesn't seem many ROMs for the Snapdragon version!
If I do successfully root it and don't flash a custom rom, will I still get official updates?
Thanks!

No root or custom for Snapdragon US model S9s, Bootloaders are locked
You need the international Exynos version

that shouldnt make any difference whatsoever. i have brought several phones from the US to several EU countries, including the UK and never had any issue with US phones working over there and using europe specific apps as well. Should be fine.

[Q] SM-T807 Custom lollipop rom

Hi guys, i just switched my note 10.1 2014 edition with tab s t807
As usual immediately rooted my tab and try to flash a custom rom.
But now i have a problem,
samsung sends 3g tablets with a different serial number to turkey (where i live) than other countries, like my note tab was P602 when the other 3g notes was P605. But i was able to flash P605 custom roms to my tab.
Now i flashed a kitkat based t805 custom rom to my t807 but when i try to upgrade to lollipop i cannot flash T805 roms, altough t805 lollipop bootlader does not work too.
Now the question is do i have to wait to get a lollipop update to my t807 (which can take real long time) or is there a way to flash t805 lollipop rom.
Thanks for the answers...
You need the lollipop bootloader. Without it it's pointless to flash Any lollipop roms.
Ok i know i need lollipop bootloader but there is a question, international 3g version is called t805 but mine in Turkey is called T807, every spec is same but t805 bootloader does not work both on odin and twrp,
Should i wait for t807 bootloader or am i missing something

Unfortunately some of the carrier versions need a specific boot loader. So unless you try all the different t807 lollipop builds, you might get lucky, if not you may just have to wait.
Is your device rootable?

Hi,
SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version (or so called 4G. It is simply not an international 3G as you've mentioned). So their hardware is different. Both CPU / GPU and WAN modules are different and firmware is not interchangeable. As far as I know Samsung did not release Lollipop for T807 (3G). I doubt that the'll be releasing a Lollipop version anytime soon.
Cheers,
K.

Not sure where you are getting your information, but the hardware specs of the Exynos t807 are the same as the t805. The t807 is the carrier or region locked version. There are stock lollipop roms available for the t807. There may be slight differences in the modem hardware depending on region, but both can support LTE .
There is a snapdragon version which is what I think you are referring to, but again this can also support LTE and Lollipop is also available.

Hi, You're mostly right. They are both capable of using LTE DATA. This week I laid my hands over a T807 and unlike most marketing sites quote it has LTE functionality just as T805. But it seems that T805 also works as a GSM phone. T807 allows data only GSM access. So the difference is not about carrier locking. I am not sure if there's a hardware difference between the two at this point. But other treads on this site say T805 boot partion won't work for T807. So there should be some difference. Earlier Samsung tablets with GSM data only configurations could be upgraded to the GSM phone functionality. I've also come across with some news sites reporting that some carrier locked versions of T807 started to get the Lollipop update. I hope the regional ones would get this update soon.

I'd be willing to bet one of the recent custom roms will flash and work on your device as long as you flash the correct bootloader.

I will be more than glad to anyone who can find the right bootloader.
What do you mean the bootloader doesn't work, does it even install?

SM-G960 vs SM-G9600 - Bootloader Question

Sorry for this if it is answered elsewhere but I didn't see a specific answer in my search.
I'm looking for the unlocked international version of the S9 because I want to root it, flash ROMs, etc..
I see the international SM-960 models that have the Exynos chip, which I know can be unlocked.
I also see the international SM-G9600 models that have the Snapdragon chip. Can the international variant with Snapdragon also be unlocked, or is it Exynos only?
In some strings I've seen mention of getting an unlock code from Samsung after 7 days. Is that for the 9600 (snapdragon), the 960 (Exynos), or both?
The SM G9600 has an unlocked bootloader like the exynos variants, but since there is no TWRP for the g9600 you kinda can't do much with it. There are no custom ROMs out there for the snapdragon version. But there are GSIs that can be installed thanks to Project treble. But like I said, without twrp you can't do much.

No, the SM-G960U (AT&T carrier locked version, IIRC) has a locked bootloader. I do not think you can flash any new firmware to it, unfortunately.
EDIT: Maybe you can, follow the guide in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200
I'm not sure, but it may be worth a try.

Hi
I have the 960u unlocked, I bought it in a best buy.
This makes a difference to flash or not the 9600?

Carrier unlocked is not the same as bootloader unlocked. One let's you use any carrier SIM card the other let's you flash stuff.
I can buy the N9600 but I am not entirely sure if it will be able to get fully twrp working and root

Safe to update to latest patch? Without breaking root / twrp?

Awful quiet around here guess everyone bought the tab s6!
I noticed an update available this August 2019. Has anyone flashed their tab s4 with Odin? And then rooted once again? I'm using a t835n and plan to get the t835 international version. But I want to be sure I can root after.
Another question - on sammobile they have so many different country options for the t835 international model. What is the actual difference? I use my device in USA so what would be the best version to flash so that I have the most bands for my carrier (TMobile). Or does flashing firmware not have the effect I am thinking on bands?
Thanks!

That's a very good question.
Are you on Oreo or Pie?
My guess, based on the rooting guides I've been reading is the one for the country that you bought the device from. I think you are on the Korean version, so I would think that would be the ideal update to use on the device and then just use it in English.
As for the S6, I'm inclined to buy another (3rd) S4 because the lack of the headphone jack is intolerable for me.
I will ask in the Note 9 forum, but do you happen to know the international version of the Note 9 that is the equivalent of the Korean 6GB Tab S4? They dropped the headphone jack on that one too. I use it to get radio on my phone.
So I rooted the Korean 6GB versions that was factory shipped with the most recent and up to date Oreo firmware and it rooted just fine. I'm missing a few apps but I'm not sure why that is (weird like missing email, internet, calculator, some google crap...). I'm trying to figure out why, but I NEVER let it connect to the internet for any reason yet. I sideloaded some of the apps and it seems fine. I'm going to check with my other Tab S4 6GB that is on the original stock firmware from the beginning to see if those apps were ever there in the first place tonight and post in the TWRP thread.
Root is fine. So I think you will be fine with the most recent firmware for Oreo. I suggest getting the Korean (region specific) firmware for your specific device.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-tab-s4/firmware/SM-T835N/KOO/
It took me a little googling but it did turn up. Sammobile site didn't fine it for me, I had to google to get it, even thought it was still the samobile site where I found it. I didn't download any successfully yet.

Can you flash US firmware on Korean or Chinese s20?

I ordered a Korean S20 ultra (988N), but live in the US. Has anyone flashed the US firmware on a bootloader unlocked SD variant of the phone (ie 988U1 firmware on a 988N or 9880)? If so, did you have to change the CSC to XAA before or after you flashed the firmware?

I don't have an answer to your question but will the non-US phone work in the US like on Verizon system as is?
It should work fine on LTE. The main Verizon bands are 2, 4, 5, 13, all of which are supported in all s20 variants. I don't think you'll get 5g on any US carriers, so if that's important, better to pick up a US spec phone, and pay to unlock the bootloader.

I tested the phone (G988N) on both Verizon on TMobile. I was able to get 5G on both carriers. So I can confirm that all features (except possibly WiFi calling on Tmobile), work.
So using the KOO firmware in the US works perfectly fine. No reason to try to flash XAA.

Question [S901U] Remove Carrier Bloat

Hey,
I've got an att locked S22, and att have gone and done a bunch of dumb stuff like locking rcs to their implementation and installing a bunch of stuff as system that I don't want etc. I'm wondering if it's possible to flash a non carrier-specific firmware to the NA S22?
Thanks
Yes, you can flash the unlocked software to the phone and it will convert it into a U1 model, with OTA updates and everything. Every S or Note series subforum has the instructions listed, except for this one for some reason.
You can follow the instructions here, just substitute the S901 for the S908 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...s908u1-versions.4400511/page-56#post-86785943
