13-Hour Screen-on-Time Battery Life? - Samsung Galaxy A70 Questions & Answers

Recently bought this phone and am getting 6-8 hours SoT at half brightness in 1 day.
I feel this is surprisingly low, considering many reviewers on YouTube are getting up of 10+ hours, with one even reaching 13 hours /watch?v=31twODBCnNU skip to 8.20 mins.
Through gsam it looks like apps account for 70% of drain (screen only 30%?), of which most seems to come from Kernel (Android OS) and Android System (see image links). I am worried this is what is draining my battery.
What SoT are people getting and how much battery is being used by Kernel (Android OS) and Android System?

If cell signal reception is good I get upto 10 hrs. In my work place signal is poor so getting around 7-8 hrs. Overall get 1-1.5 days easily

I can second that. In optimal conditions I get up to 10 hours of SoT.

Have you disabled any apps and services to get that SoT? I disabled some google apps i don't use, facebook app and some more, disabled aod, double tap to wake and still can't get more than 7-8 hours.

Never gotten 10 hours before. How did your manage that? Anyone else want to share their SoT?

My average SOT with medium usage (Browser, Youtube, Telegram etc) is 10+ hours. Wifi only, no cellular, bluetooth off, gps off, nfc off, auto sync off, brightness 60%, night mode on, black theme on most apps even keyboard, disabled a lot of samsung/google apps with package disabler, disabled all bixby stuff, aod off, all the gestures off except palm swipe, power saving mode medium with CPU limited at 70% (no lag whatsoever PUBG plays fine)
With heavy usage (PUBG) battery drains 10-12% per hour

I get 7 hours SOT with heavy usage , gps Bluetooth, 4g on both sims ,all other services active , still get 7 hours .
Sent from my SM-A705FN using Tapatalk

Can anyone post screenshots of their usage through device care/gsam app drain?

I usually get close to 11 hours with 20-25% brightness and adaptive power saving on.
Sync, location and wifi always on.
AOD - tap to show.

Overnight standby power drain is excellent...WiFi and mobile on.

My battery life, wifi and data on,everything else off

I get around 6-7 hours.. Wifi, mobile data, auto sync and AOD are always on. Never used any power saving feature. Playing clash royale and PUBG for about 45 minutes daily.

I usually get around 6-7 hours, but thats with heavy gaming and bad mobile data signal reception and with 20-25% battery remaining, cuz I think draining the battery often will affect the lifespan of the battery.
Off topic but I just want to ask, is 3gb ram used by the system normal? I have the 6gb ram variant.

I can get over 4h SOT. Nice!
I have been averaging 6 hour OT. Let keep in mind I do not have any social media apps on my phone Had all google services running such as google now, and had my location on battery saving mode. I usually run map for about 15-20 minutes on average.
Really impressed.
WiFi and LTE all the time on, WhatsApp and Skype protected, web surfing and other normal uses. Better than my old Honor7.
Of course never charged.
Edit: it took me over 7 hours before I had to put it to charge.
During my first charge cycle after I started using H8, I got 4 hrs of SOT with 50 hrs of standby time. I put it to charge with 21% battery remaining so it should have given in another hour I think. I am a light user.
Will update once I have tested it through more scenarios and heavy usage.
I let PC Mark Work 2.0 run overnight with the screen at ~25% brightness in Performance Mode. It was in Airplane mode because the benchmark says notifications can interrupt it and this was the first time since getting the phone I've had enough time to run it.
I put it on the charger a few minutes before I remembered to take the screenshot. It was at 18% when I looked at it.
I can use the phone for 2 days, which is definitely amazing. With that in mind, I usually get about 5-6 hours SOT. Brightness set to 30 percent, Many apps (incl Snapchat, Instagram and WhatsApp) are protected. I'm a student so I turn the Internet off for about 6 hrs per day because the Internet connection in the school is just to bad.
Connected to WiFi as often as possible.
Not many games (nearly never in fact) but heavy Whatsapp, Instagram and Snapchat use.
it seems that the phone can average 4hrs SOT for moderate to heavy usage which is very good
During about 2 days of usage I have 4-5h SOT so I could say that combined 18-19 standby and the SOT is what I have which is really nice after my BB Z10. Mostly FB, Messenger, BBM, Chrome, Youtube and photography.
Hello, I just gotta say the battery works really good with this phone. I'm really happy I picked the honor 8

I've seen it on the Screenshots above and I see it on my Honor 8 as well.. Why is does the software need much more battery than the hardware? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Here it's 6-9 hours of screen on, average a little over 7. Maybe I keep the brightness a little low, people tend to say that it's dark but it's comfy enough for me. I mostly use WiFi and the same apps that used to drain my Galaxy S4 before it was evening. Now I can go to bed with 50% to spare.
Around 4-5 depending on how many games I play . I use it quite heavily as a phone too (I know, shock) so I'm more than content.
Standby time was close to two days
Played games etc. Took it from loading at 6.10 am ended at 22:00 with 4℅. Love the battery <3
Here the screens:
It depends on the network usage !
If you use cell data you're ready for 3-4 hours SOT
If you use Wi-Fi you can hope for around 7 hours
Yes.

Got 6 hours sot on my first usage starting at 90%, wifi only - internet/youtube/light gaming
Not impressive but decent, not as terrible as I thought sd820 was going to be aside from it being hot
Could be better but with all of the battery saving features you get, I don't have any issues with how long the battery lasts with the screen on.
You can also change the resolution to FHD. It will increase the SOT and FPS while playing videogames Great new feature :good:

6 hours of heavy usage with LTE would be very impressive, S7E exynos can pull off 6-7 hours in that regard.
6 hours with wifi and light usage is pretty typical even for mid range phones, my 7 years old iphone can pull off similar results in airplane mode.

No ****, eh? I am beyond happy with the SOT with this phone... hell, the battery period. My POS LG G3 couldn't go more than 3.5 hours SOT with light to moderate usage.

20 hours 30minutes on phone charged 100percent at 1 am it's now 908pm 23 percent battery left. 4hourd 43 minutes sot I'm impressed.

U are saying iphone 3gs was capable of 6 hours of usage
Lol standby or airplane mide note 7 would last a week. Easy.

Mine clocked 8 hrs with wifi, you tube, moderate gaming and online music.
I've managed about 17hrs SOT on my Note 5 once*
*Attatched to a battery pack lol
Snapdragon model note 7. Had 6 hours 30 minutes of screen on time, 3 more hours of standby, WiFi, Bluetooth, WiFi calling, and AOD all active, location set to battery saving, none of the power saving features active, spent lots of time in Firefox and Facebook messenger, watched a full movie from SD card at 100% brightness, sketched in autodesk sketchbook with the s pen for maybe an hour, and I still have 35% remaining. Been at full bars of reception all day, though, so no drain from low signal. Either way, I'm impressed. Especially coming from my HTC one m9, haha. And the phone stayed pretty cool all day, especially compared to the m9.
Hi, I'm looking at around 5 hours of SOT.
I believe I am experiencing severe battery drain on my phone. My phone doesn't last a complete day without needing a recharge.
Here are some quick stats.
- My phone has been on for 6h20m. Screen on for 2h17mn. Battery left is 58%. Although, I've turned on MAX power saving mode for about 1 hour or two today to ensure that my phone can last throughout the day.
- I usually have screen brightness at 50% or lower.
- According to the device maintenance app, and depending on past usage I have enough juice for another 6h50mn. That would lead to screen time of about 4 to 5 hours.
- I'm using dark themes whenever possible to reduce screen battery consumption.
- I've played a game for about 10 to 20 minutes today
- I've noticed that when my screen is on, every couple of minutes (maybe 5 minutes at the most) my battery percentage will drop by 1%.
- I mainly use my phone for gReader (RSS Reader with dark theme modee), WhatsApp (with black wallpaper) and the Economist.
- The top 3 items that have consumed my battery so far are: Screen (33%), Android OS (21%), Andoroid System (16%)
- I'm using two SIMs on my phone
- Believed to be Exynos. Bought it from the Middle East
- Always on Dispaly has 4 clocks on at all times. Probably using more battery.
Am I a heavy user hence why my battery is running out quickly. Or are there certainly issues with the battery?
Thanks for your feedback
I feel as if I'm getting horrible battery life as well. Been hard to tell being that I have horrible signal at work, if it doesn't improve with real world usage this weekend I'm going to phone att for a replacement.
SOT is a useless measure on it's own, doesn't tell anything about the battery life. I doubt you can get 6h SOT and that your phone can last until the end of the day. Yesterday I got about 4h SOT and around 14h uptime before I plugged it in again. Can't say that I am unhappy with that.
5 hours of playing Deemo and have 14% remaining, probably going to refund it for a S7E with exynos instead or keep it and sell it before S8 launches
Wifi only, brightness was around 30% auto. Not a gpu intensive game at all so not as impressive as it sounds. I believe the S7E exynos did 5 hours of pokemon go with max brightness.
I'm getting great battery. Better than my Nexus 6P, which I didn't expect. Seemed to run hot day 2, not day 3. Not...sure why. Love the power options, normally I hate to touch power saving.

Quoting myself here. Day 4 with the phone, 4:10 SOT with 18 h of on-battery time. Battery went down to 4%. Just a normal use, few videos, lots of music played (Deezer and Pandora), about 30m of Pokemon Go, news, etc. Once again, not unhappy with the results. I would prefer if I have another 5-10% left to account for the unexpected. Otherwise, all good.

I don't use mobile data, and when I don't use the device it's in ultimate power saver mode. Low screen brightness, most apps disabled for background running (everything except WhatsApp and other apps I want to receive notifications from) . Stock apps mostly disabled. Wifi is always on. That's it really
100 to 14%, 11h16m SOT for over 4 days on a single charge with 2h of online gaming. Wifi and mobile data mixed. Very good I would say. If no gaming and using the phone for just about 2 days I can easily achieve 13-14h screen on time.
New shot, 12h11m SOT from 100% to 18% with 1h17m gaming for over 5d18h on a single charge, only wifi. 14h SOT achieved to 0%.
Only on Wi-Fi, listening to Spotify on Bluetooth for around 3-4 hours, a bit of gaming (1-2 hours), and some browsing and stuff. This phone has amazing battery life.
Lots of Web browsing, some music, sot over 19h and 4day standby, when phone will have 2-3% I will post exact sot.
Show the software graph too. May be you charged the phone a bit to achieve these 19h SOT, but hiding this from us? I can't imagine I'm getting such a result. Max 14h. What's your region and carrier?
As I said before lots of web browsing, some music, sot almost 22h in 5days run, all stock. Europe carrier orange.
btw. what is Notification Center it got same % of run as minecraft, my son was playing it for abou 3h.
Man what a result! Impossible for me according to my usage.
Damn ..How ever I use ..I am getting 8 to 9 hours daily
Yup, I can't understand these guys with 14-18h SOT, 12h from 100 to 15% is usual for me.
For me last 13% of battery lasts for about 3hours of sot, when first 87% lasts for 19h, also I can see that blackplayer and few other apps doesn't show up in stats maybe that they are running in background, idk.
S232 Nougat Battery life.
13h50m SOT from 95% to 15%
6d12h on a battery epic!
Web browsing, YouTube, mainly wifi, an hour or two 3G. Auto brightness on medium to low.
4 days and still going ..
Over 4 days since last charge ( on nougat ) . ok i am a pretty light user but the galaxy S5 could hardly get over 1 day .

Have crazy issues with Oreo.

Basically, got this phone from Amazon UK when they had black Friday deals.
Got the phone, used it... battery was going down really fast. tried to update etc, factory reset. I have the goodix fingerprint sensor and my cpu usage is always at the max. android system, gfmanager etc is draining my battery really fast! I'm lucky to get 4 hours SOT.
Anyone else?
I get 4 hours SOT, BT always on with constant heart measure with band 3. (about 5-15k heart measures per day) And i get about 2 days battery life.
(wifi always on, 1hours weather update on band3 and every time i unlock screen weather update on phone)
If I use only phone on wifi without BT, i get about 5-7 hours SOT, and 4-5 days battery life.
(most of SOT is used by playing games, so most intensive)
i haven't tested only browsing or video watching SOT
^ Still doesn't help me.
I've turned off bluetooth, connected to the 2G tower and Oreo is still terrible with the battery. everything I can tweak to help battery life I have done, nothing seems to be working.
"Android System" and "GFManager" are consuming the hell out of my battery!
Surely I can't be the only one.....
I think GFManager has something to do with the fingerprint sensor, maybe try to turn it off for testing purposes.
I've tried and I can't disable "GFManager" it just won't let me.

Idle battery drain

Hello,
I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S20 5G (SM-G981B) 10 days ago as a replacement of my 3 years old S8. I actually chose the S20 because of the WQHD. FHD+ is a no for me. Before using it I did a factory reset as the phone is updated to the latest SW upong switching it on. I didn't transfer my data from the old phone, I just installed everything from scratch, and only some of the apps I use, no games. I don't have a microSD in my phone.
The phone is really good in all aspects, except 1: battery life. I have a massive 1.8 to 2% per hour idle battery drain during the night (with everything off apart from Radio network: Wifi, bluetooth, location, data all off), this leads to ridiculous SOT time: between 2 to 3 hours.
I have all battery optimizations settings activated: all smart movement off, adaptive battery on, AOD off, Location is off (or set to when app in use) for all apps. I have put most of the apps in deep sleep when not in use, google location history and location sharing disabled, vibration disabled for everything apart from phone calls, etc...
I have installed GSAM and adjusted permissions through ADB. I attached 2 screenshots of a normal day usage (battery from 100% to 21% before going to charge, SOT below 2 hours). I charged my phone then to 100% and went to sleep without using it. 8 hours afterwards (with everything disabled) phone is at 85% battery. I took screenshots of the app sucker and details of the 10 most consuming apps.
I need a support to translate these into actions. I don't understand meaning of the wakelocks and I would appreciate if someone can pinpoint the issue with my idle battery life. If the normal behaviour is this then I would have to return the phone, because my 3 years old S8 performs exactly the same in terms of battery.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Hello,
I could find what's causing my battery drain: LTE network.
Actually, even if mobile data is disabled, camping on LTE network would consume about 2% per hour. I tried changing this to GSM and my phone now would consume 2 to 3% for the whole night, which is around 0.3 or 0.4% per hour.
Using heavily the mobile on GSM and WIFI would give me more than 7 hours SOT.
Being a remote worker now, it's ok for me to keep the phone on GSM as I am on Wifi all the time, now I use LTE only when going out.
Hope this helps the community.
