phone is rekt please help im out of ideas - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

I messed up big time trying to update my march build of nos to the newest june build. i was using the recommend things for the rom of course but when trying to flash gapps i got a error 20 despite having the correct version (ive been doing this for years). So when i noticed i wasnt going to be able to make it work i tried to go back to an older gapps, then an older nos. every time i was getting error 20 even with the march rom and gapps i used originally. so i tried to go to a new rom, switched to their recommended twrp, firmware etc. but no matter what i keep getting a no os installed error now despite not getting any errors from twrp during install. cant figure out how to fix it and i cant find a fashboot rom for the mix 2 anywhere and ive downloaded about 3 sketchy files that were on the mix forum but miflash didnt recognize anything. The only thing here i have never done a thousand times already is the fastboot rom and miflash. If anyone can help it would be great. I think i just need a compatible fastboot rom and whatever it requires to install, and i should be goog to go but i cant find anything and im on day 2 now.
also for the record ive already tried manually mounting system, repairing system within twrp and doing a full wipe of everything. it seems system isnt actually getting written over despite twrp not saying anything.
also my phone was encrypted originally but i did format data multiple times

So it got rekt

[Q] Ll3 update fails no matter what

I have been trying to get my S3 to take the update from LG8 to Ll3, and it fails no matter what I try. I am running totally stock LG8 that I rooted using the toolkit posted in the development section. I don't have any APKs that I altered, but every time I try to flash the update, I get a "status 7" error. I tried it on both internal and external SD using CWM recovery. I tried flashing stock recovery via Odin and then let the phone download it over the air and attempt to install itself, and I even tried running the update in TWRP. Every time I get the same status 7 error.
I am coming from HTC phones and have never had these kinds of issues, so I'm pulling out my hair. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I know it must be something stupid I'm overlooking, but I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find the answer.
Sounds like a bad DL. Just grab it from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743923
Or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Or odin flash LI3- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919919
A lot less stressful
The procedure that myn posted over here is pretty staight forward and foolproof too.
Have you solved your issue yet?
I am getting the status 7 error as well even with Myn's procedure. Others are having the problem. Only thing I can think of is the current image file has changed enough to not allow the update to go through. However, I have not removed or modified any stock apks and backed my whole system up with TB right after rooting so no reason for mine to not work. Binary file should be good since it is working for other S3 users.
It's not a bad download. I have tried downloading it multiple times from several sources, and I get the same status 7 failure every time. It even fails when the phone itself downloads the update and it tries to install with the stock recovery.

I was able to get mine to work using Myn's method. Seems flashing newest CWM recovery did the trick. Was trying to flash via TWRP and didn't think it would matter but apparently it does. Just followed his post and all upgraded without issue.
Back to your issue.....what state is your phone at currently? What recovery is installed and what version are you running? Surely we can get this resolved for you.
what does the log say when it fails? I mean in addition to status 7. If you don't see anything go under advance>show log. it's probably a failure in the checks it does before the flash. Have u modified your build.prop? is your baseband and build both lg8? That log will tell you what's wrong.or as I mentioned above you could follow 1 of my links and avoid tha headache

[Q] No ROMs taking, keep getting no MD5 message, phone close to bricked.

I apologize in advance if any of this makes you roll your eyes at my stupidity.
Good Afternoon
I have an ATT samsung galaxy s3, Because of the glitches with 4.3 I was experiencing I decided to install custom software on my phone. So I looked up guides and got everything I needed. I did manage to get root access, and verified with super user. I also installed TWRP and CWM because each kept giving me errors when I tried to install CM 11 onto my phone. I tried CWM first, and when that didn't work I tried TWRP. It says there was no MD5 information found when I try to install any mod. how ever I have used the md5 file checker program and the MD5 matches up to what was listed in this one for example.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2518998
Download:
CM 11.0 Unofficial Beta 7 for d2tmo and d2att
MD5: ef93957db1e6704f23f9015231a82826
So the MD5 matches, yet when I try to install it keeps giving me errors. I also tried other versions of CM that I found on here via links. Right now my phone has no OS as another guide I read some where also said to wipe system data (sorry if that was stupid, I was just following a guideline) And even more stupid, no I don't have a backup because in my naivety and stupidity I didn't think I'd need one as it seemed so simple from all the guides and videos I'd seen.
Yesterday a friend of mine knowledgeable with tech stuff took one of the original stock Image ROMs I'd downloaded and using linux and some program he managed to do some crazy stuff I can't even describe on here. All I saw was a lot of typing of command lines and it got my phone working again, how ever it wasn't exactly the stock image I guess because the phone would not make or receive calls/texts.
Since my phone was powering on again and the android OS was loading I figured I could connect it to my computer and use KIES to download the official latest update so my phone would be back on the legit software. But trying to do that...well broke my phone again. So I'm at a loss now of what to do. Right now I can still get to download mode on my phone, but when I try to get into recovery mode I get an error that "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in KIES & try again." Which I've tried, and every time I try it gives me an error message. So I'm at a loss of what to do next.
So I'd like to get a working OS on my phone asap so I can get calls and texts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. And being new I'm sorry if I broke any taboos or did not give some information that is typically given when describing a problem.

First of all thank you for trying to help me, I hope you are having a good Thanks Giving.
I used the thread you linked to, and downloaded the version with out knox. I followed the instructions
transferred ROM and flashed kernel file to SD card
used odin to flash TWRP,
used twrp to flash rom and kernel file.
and it takes the file thankfully, there's only one issue. My phone can't make or receive calls/texts. Is yours able to?
I messed up and was playing with things That I had no business playing with and decided that I should do a restore of a backup (TWRP) I made as soon as I rooted the 4.3 OTA. well it has soft bricked my phone. it was a TWRP 4.3 Nandroid and has me messed up a little.
so far I tried My nandroid (no dice now a soft brick) cleared cache and dalvik, It was booting as far as the white at&t spinning thing,
Factory reset same on booting,
Tried a format of the internal sd this is where it gets sketchy it now goes as far as the second samsung screen(the one that says Samsung GALAXY S III)
4.3 OTA .zip (no dice TWRP wont flash it) same on the booting 2nd samsung boot screen
Tried the files in the link above and got a Hard brick
Used the debricking .IMG file and got TWRP and download mode back
Any suggestions?
Looks like I might need a JTAG/RIFF BOX for this one. If nothing else I spent many Hours of darkness discovering the darkness of android 4.3
If I get recovered from this and with a different rom like 4.1.2 I will be happy. the 4.3 OTA was very stable but I did miss wifi tether and the whole hardbrick thing was kind of a bummer. it would be real nice to have an ODIN file to fix this (AHEM samsung) or atleast perhaps stopped the progression of it to a hard brick.
New update
I got my phone booting up again however there is a catch. That unbrick.img file on my 16GB sd card is still required to boot the phone and I have no cell service what so ever. Tried to check apn settings because at home I sometimes get poor service and I run net10 so I was going to fix my apn and it says insert sim??? the sim is properly inserted???
Next Update
the bootloader I flashed apparently flashed to the external sd card? I flashed another one and it is booting from the internal sd. I had to flash a different modem the one in the bootloader/modem file I flashed from the link above didnt take? I got most everything sorted out, but im getting tired, it has been an all night adventure. its 08:23 est now
sorry for the delay in updating this I had to get some rest.

Go into Settings, About Phone, Status and check to see if your IMEI and Serial Number are present. If you only lost your IMEI there's a guide on how to inject it back (I'm not sure where the guide is). However if you've lost your serial number and don't have a Nandroid that can restore it I don't know what to do.

I updated my post above and showed my soultion. I simply had to flash a new modem and almost everything was kosher. I also had to flasah a different kernel but that was for preference not because things werent working.

I used that modem, flash it and see if your problems go away. I use Net10 so after I flashed the Modem I had to create an APN aswell, but that is nothing new for me.

I will give that a shot, but what's an APN, sorry. And how do I create one, and is it needed for me to do so?

It should be, I'm working right now so I don't have time to fine the guide on how to inject your IMEI. If I remember correctly it involves using QPST. If you have an old (or any) working Nandroid backup that should fix the problem.
FYI, make sure you don't use the guide for the international S3 as it has different hardware and folder structure/contents.
As for the APN, it should automatically fill itself in since it reads it off the SIM Card (I might be wrong).

So I guess the next question, do I try again to install kit kat on my phone.
I've already made bucks of my existing working phone haha....but I'd still like to have kitkat in place. I believe the issue of my phone not reading MD5 confirmations would still be in place, does anyone know how to remedy that situation?
At the same time I'm more than happy to leave my phone as is.

Pretty sure you can turn off MD5 checks in TWRP. Probably in CWM too. Sorry if this has been mentioned. Didn't have time to read the whole thread. Just skimmed through.
2nd, there is a major difference between an IMEI that reads 0 and an IMEI that shows unknown. If it shows an unknown simply reflash your ROM and modem and you will be good to go. Sometimes a reboot is all you need. If your IMEI is showing a 0 on the other hand its gone and will require that it be injected back in which is a messy situation that usually results in tour phone being stuck on EDGE.
3rd, as someone mentioned on the previous page, restoring a working nandroid will NOT reinject your IMEI if it shows up as 0. No amount of flashing anything will get it to come back. Not even stock. It needs to be reinjected manually.

do you know of a good stable kit kat like ROM I could use for the s3? And any speculation as to why the ROMs werent taking for me?

Continuous reboots, device is almost a brick... Can you help me?

Hi guys,
I had already suffered in the past for sudden reboots, but at least i was able to use the phone for a decent amount of time and fix it. After last night, though, the situation seems desperate. When i woke up i was able to turn off the alarm clock, check my email, but then hell started...
My phone is a gsm Nexus (maguro i9250), with CyanogenMod11 snapshot M5 and the appropriate google apps (at least they were appropriate about 1 month ago). I recently had some minor issue with the Google+ app, after it was updated: it kept crashing, until i uninstalled it and reinstalled after downloading from the Play Store. Should i instead search for a newer gapps packet?
Now the situation is pretty awful. The phone will reboot after at most 2 minutes. I don't really know what makes it crash so bad.
I also have two weird problems. Whatever change i manage to make before the phone reboots doesn't get persisted. For example, the alarm clock will always start activated, no matter if i managed to deactivate it before the reboot.
I'm also not able to reset it to factory defaults. I am using ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7. If i try the reset procedure, the /data and /cache partitions are formatted, but not the sdcard one. Indeed, i get the following output:
Code:
Formatting /data
Formatting /cache
Formatting /sd-ext
E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure
Data wipe complete
When i reboot the phone after this procedure, everything is still there, and the phone will keep doing its reboots after 1-2 minutes.
What can i do? Is there an hardware way to hard-reset the phone? Is there a program i could use?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe, but if everything is still there after a reboot, sounds doubtful.
Have you tried installing a different rom? Can you connect via adb? Do you have a nandroid?
Format /system under Mounts and Storage in CWM and reflash ROM and GApps?
Hi guys, thanks for your replies! Sorry for the late answer, i was pretty busy.
I spent last night trying everything i could, but i think my phone is gone
I used Skipsoft's Android Toolkit and Odin, with no success.
The first one seemed to succeed: i tried twice, with two different stock roms, but i always ended up with the same CM11, same apps, same everything.
Odin always failed (i tried at least 3 times, i honestly lost the count).
I did find a post in the forums regarding a guy with my same problem, and he was told about the eMMC as well. I am pretty sure that is my problem as well.
Further proofs of that:
1) I downloaded the latest CM11 nightly build, was able to push its zip file on the device using Eclipse (i swear it was there), but when i tried to flash it using CWM, the file wasn't there.....
2) With Android Toolkit i was able to boot into a different recovery tool (TWM, i think). I wiped everything with it, and i was starting to hope.... but the same darn CM11 appeared!
I don't have a nandroid, i formatted everything i could in Mounts in CWM (i got to a point that i formatted everything that was formattable). I also tried to reflash the rom and gapps. No luck, always ended up with the same situation.
I didn't really try a different rom. I didn't try to connect using adb on the terminal, but i think that Eclipse is based on that, so i think adb is working.
Oh well... Right now i'm using an old phone, but i have started looking for a new one, i am tempted by the Nexus 5

You can try by downloading a clean google factory image and then flash it using bootloader and see it helps, it could be a bad script inside. If this doesn't help then you should totally get the Nexus 5. I got GNex only recently and its still a good device I reassure you. A little tweak and a little overclock makes it as good as a stock N4 minus the bad graphics.

Well I got bad news well not really bad but kinda. If you wiped efs data while you were wiping your phone will never properly connect to the network anymore. That obviously won't matter unless you somehow get out of this bootloop.

errors posted in Recovery Mode help

Hello,
I have had a few errors of missing directories etc after the update to Oreo a few months back.
https://pastebin.com/X7FxunzP
I tried a factory reset via the in-phone options after install to see if that would fix anything, but the errors remain. I am thinking about doing a full flash using Heimdall to just start over completely fresh because I still feel like my Oreo install has been buggy and think it might have to do with residual stuff from before.
Do these errors persist even with a fresh flash? It is weird to me that there is ATT stuff on the device even though it is a Verizon build.
I was also wondering where the best place to download the lastest official Verizon Oreo build is.
Thank you for your time.

Question Bricked for Days and usable WiFi is $$$ for vanlife, help!

I was ALL good with my Pixel 6 pro, rooted and hours of tweaks in. My idiotic mistake here was I did not make a flashable backup before flashing the magisk-rooted despair kernel. Instead, because of laziness to find a nandroid backup method, I made a half-assed backup by dragging and dropping on my pc, and this has cost me.
Immediately after flashing via the 99 cent kernel flash app (can't remember the name) I was getting caught in the G loading screen bootloop.
Since then, I've tried everything. Every combination of every fastboot command I have found, on Windows and Ubuntu, multiple cables, etc. This has worked for me in every version of Android since 4.0 or earlier, as I've gone this whole time without really gaining understanding of any of the back end.
Now I cannot enter fastbootd. I get errors in fastboot that the "/system" partition does not exist. I have no stock recovery and can only enter Fastboot bootloader mode. GrapheneOS will not install due to an error at the final step indicating that fastboot is too old, despite the updates I keep reinstalling (Graphene web installer failing on download portion). Stock Recovery Flash Tool never works for me, always an error on the download. When manually flashing Stock, I am hit with the missing system partition error, the error that the image is too large for the partition, cannot determine image filename, etc.
Now, fastboot reboot bootloader doesn't even work until i unplug and replug the phone back in. And no flashing commands are attempted until the phone is unplugged/replugged. My bootloader is still unlocked as confirmed by the fastboot oem unlock command response.
Essentially I believe I am in need of a complete wipe, beyond anything I've done yet. I think I need to create new partitions before flashing? Someone please help me I'm dead in the water and on motel wifi to try and fix this stubborn beast.
When I first got my pixel 6 pro, I didn't let the update fully install and ended up using the web flasher to get it working again. Have you tried that? It'll be a full wipe but at least you would have your device.

Oh I've wiped it along the way already, since the "incident" of the kernel flash. Multiple ways. I would love to use the web flasher, but it just doesn't work for me. The download never completes, and I suspect even if it did that at this point it would get stuck right away and throw me an error message, likely deleting the whole download along with it.

Damn. I'm sure you have tried some of the manual flashing guides out there too?

Not sure when you said you used "Stock Recovery Flash Tool" if you meant the "Android Flash Tool". But just in case you didn't, that can force flash partitions with it. Probably your best shot.
Android Flash Tool
flash.android.com
Android Flashing Tool online unbricked me the other day. You have to be patient with the tool as it took me several tries. It will totally wipe your phone, but at this point you just need to rescue your device. Keep us posted.
thanks for the tip. i'm trying the android flash tool again now. and will keep trying it until it at least passes the download stage. and yes i tried all the manual flashing guides out there...and hybrid combos of all as well. i mean i'm positive its my fault for missing SOMEthing somewhere but many hours have been spent with overall negative progress.
my track record is still zero hard bricked devices or soft ones I couldn't fix over all these years so i'm not too worried but i could use my phone back haha
will keep posted as requested. ty again.
I know this doesn't help your immediate situation, but when flashing anything like custom kernels, I would advise not to use some random app to flash it with, just follow the directions in the OP of the kernel's thread, and make sure you have up to date Platform Tools and driver. CleanSlate and many or all the custom kernels also require flashing more than just the boot.img.
Good luck, I hope you get it back working for you.
Hey guys, the Android Flashing Tool finally worked for me and I am up and running again. Thanks for your help and tips. Hacking phones is more important every year and thus I truly value your skills and advice. This community must survive the new world order. much love folks
