Long press Back button to sleep? - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

Is there a way that I can get long press of my Back button to put the phone to sleep, same as is available on OnePlus devices? My phone is rooted.

I'm interested, too.

Don't know how to do that but I've added an extra invisible button to the left of the back button using an app called Custom Navigation Bar

This does exactly what I want. Perfect. Thanks for the heads up.

If you use magisk for root, you can flash edxposed for pie in magisk and then gravitybox module for pie.
You can add long press back button to sleep or kill foreground app in gravitybox.

[Q] Anyone know of a way to get menu overflow button?

Anyway to get the menu overflow button into all apps and disable menu key or make it multitask key? Xposed modules or Roms? I loathe the menu key. All of my other devices have software buttons so I'm always thrown off when going to my note. Thanks

xposed module: 3-dot menu mod do the job(add soft menu key). Install it, activate in xposed and restart.
PS. And Samsung did it again wrong, because the menus are ugly in all their apps (light grey icons on a white background).

Good stuff. This restored the 3 dot menu in Chrome after Google yanked it out in the last update.
I peronwly love the menu button

Now to find a way to turn the menu button into a task switcher button and set long press home to google now
Youre right ... Listen to me get xposed modules install gravity box jellybean version... and use their pie controls.... make them appear on left side.... so use ur left thumb to acces home button and recent task on pie.... and your right thumb for the return button ... i know the feels... since that threw me off too ... this way you can comfortably navigate without sacrificing screen estate... .. trust me it rocks... contact me if you have more questions .. youre welcome

Long press home to Google Now can be done with Xposed. Both my phone and tablet work like that. I use Switchr for task switching with the activator in the bottom left and Button Savior Pro on the bottom right.
mine does that automatically. it also tried opening dolphin for some reason LoL

[Q] Screenshot button

Is there any way to add screenshot button to next to basic on-screen-buttons? I am running CleanROM.

I personally haven't heard of any way to add a 4th button to the navigation bar for screenshots. That sounds like something that might be in a custom rom if it was even available. The other option I know of would be to use Xposed Framework with the GravityBox module. With GravityBox you can set a long press or double tap on any of the nav bar buttons to trigger a screenshot. You can add a tile in the Quick Settings for screenshots. And you can also add it to the Advanced Power Menu (power button). That's what I can think of at the moment other than finding an app or widget of some kind to put on your home screen.

Gestures to replace Google Now

Hi
I usually had gestures where it would replace Google Now when i swipe up from the home button to sleep my phone. I was using SenseToolBox. But after updating to 4.4.3 that stopped working.
Is there another app where I can modify the home button swipe options to replace Google Now? I just want to have the to make it go to sleep when i swipe up from the home button, instead of going to Google Now.
Thanks !

With this app you can change the swipe up action: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AdrianCampos.swipeuputility
And you could set it to launch a screen-lock app such as: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
Is there a rom that does this without having 2 apps doing it?

I just saw that the Swipe Up app has a built-in function to turn off the screen, so you actually only need that one app
Yep I saw that. But I don't think it's worth paying money for that one function though. I remembered in most custom roms I've used with my Nexus4, that ability was built in for free. Oh well, thanks for the help anyways!

Remove recent apps button from button combination.

Is there a way to move this off the button combination? I want to replace it with my menu key using xposed, but it won't let me remove the Recents. Kinda a pet peeve of mine.

Same here. I really hope someone figures this out. I prefer holding Home to get my Recent Apps list and instead would like my Menu key be always visible.
It is on the to do list for G3 TweaksBox. See the post linked below for conformation on this from the dev. Looking forward to this myself since I never use the recent apps button.

Actually, press and hold recent (task) button calls up menu.
It's same as 2014 Samsung devices.

Yes, this is the LG default. He's talking about being able to remove the recents button, which currently can't be done. G3 Tweaksbox will let you add a menu button but you can't remove the recent app button, yet.
How often do you all actually use a menu key to need it to be so prominent, though? Personally, I'd rather have my recent key default to the last app with a long press to all apps, but I personally can't see myself needing to use a menu button often enough to have it on my navigation bar (I took away the press and hold for menu entirely on my phone).
I like having the press and hold menu option that way I don't need to stretch my thumb when I am one handing the phone.
I am a naughty boy so this should go lol

I use it a lot, it's faster for me. You don't. The option should be there so that we can choose what fits our individual needs. It's called personal preference.

Don't get your panties in a bunch over a simple question. I never said YOU don't need the option, I was only wondering how often those requesting it use a menu button over task switching.
Maybe whatever phone you can from had a menu button while my Nexus devices didn't. And speaking of Nexus, I really liked how a menu button could set to appear on either the left or right sides whenever it was usable.

I use it quite a bit. Came from a Gs4 which had it built in on the capacitive buttons below the screen. I would like to have it back and set the how button long press to do Recents. No big deal though, I'll just have to wait. Maybe I'll be used to it and it won't matter much when they've come up with a fix.

It takes me quite a bit to get used to the new operation, but this method can toggle apps much faster than press and hold home button, or you can close app by moving it left or right to save the resource, and, sometimes, the battery.

Custom navbars not working

Hi.
So I've been trying to get my navbar buttons to work as they did in my previous phone. What would be:
Recent apps short press: open menu
Recent apps long press: search
Recent apps double tap: open assistant
Home button short press: home
Home button long press: recent apps
Home button double tap: split screen
Back button short press: back
Back button long press: kill app
Remaping the buttons doesn't seem an option since the soft keys are not detected as buttons. I rooted my device as well.
I've tried several methods using other apps that should replace the stock navbar but those despite being shown they do nothing.
I would also like to have it so the home button is disabled when typing.
I would really appreciate some help. Thanks

-OS: OOS9.0.5
-Rooted with magisk. Twrp recovery. No xposed
Most of the functions you listed can be achieved by using the navbar customization built into Oxygen OS. (Settings->Buttons->Navigation Bar->Customization) The kill app button could probably be done with Tasker.

Although it is true the actions themselves are available on the stock menu apart from search and kill app. The short press action cannot be changed
Ah, didn't notice the menu one. Just for curiosity, do apps still support a menu button function? I haven't seen a hardware menu button in years.

Oh yes they do. All of the ones I use at least it just opens whatever menu the app has that you would access by pressing on 3 dots. I just hate that some apps use other methods so you always have to think how to open the menu as oposed to just pressing the same thing
