A70 fingerprint recognition problem - Samsung Galaxy A70 Questions & Answers

80% of the time i try to use fingerprint to unlock my device my fingerprint is not recognized.
Is this a software or hardware problem and how to solve it?

This is a hardware problem, which Samsung is trying to solve as if it's a software problem. They keep tweaking it, but it will never work as should (look at all the complaints about the s10 fingerprint sensor). An ultrasonic fingerprint reader behind the screen works in ideal circumstances, but on a phone it's just terrible.
I register my fingerprint and after 5 seconds it doesn't even unlock anymore. It says it's not my fingerprint. I can understand that your fingerprint changes slightly over a couple of days (I had to do some DIY in my house and I got a couple of scratches on my fingertips), afterwards my S8+ would ALWAYS unlock, but the A70 just thinks, well hey that must be someone elses finger.
I'm using face unlock and I must say it works very quickly. I read comments everywhere about people who stopped using fingerprint on these Samsung devices. It was a nice marketing trick, but what a terrible idea.

I was on the verge of returning the phone over how poorly the sensor was working, it was as bad as 1 in 5 touches working.
I've had a huge improvement by deleting my fingerprints and setting them up again as per this guide: https://youtu.be/X9y--nHmaco
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that!! Works a treat.

Register 3 times, in the same position you will use to unlock like the @chongo_au video above
Dont folow the screen tip when registering. It is misleading
Also, emove transition effect on biometry preferences
Try also register one of the three like this: first, put yout finger on power button, and then put your finger on the scanner

What do you mean by put your finger on the power button and then on the scanner?

1. put your finger over the power button (just to position, no pressing)
2. now put down your finger to scanner
why? because lot of people, when unlocking the device, do this movement, pressing power button first, and then press the scanner almost without moving the hand, using the right side of the right thumb
It is just a tip about positioning. It worked for me.

I got some tips to solve this problem, just moisten your finger a little bit, maybe you can lick your finger and then rub it with other finger, but don't let your finger dry completely (i.e. if your registered fingerprint is your thumb, then lick your thumb a little bit and then rub the surface with your index finger) and then place your finger to the sensor as usual. Hope this work on you too! And sorry for my bad English.

a70 fingerprint recognition
I also thought that it was the sensor Until I did a reset on my phone to remove some of the clutter I put in with Smartswitch
fortunately you don't have to reset your phone
-> first remove all your fingerprints saved!
->think carefully about the part of your finger that you will place in contact with the sensor!
->place that part on the sensor first covering it completely ..no need for too much pressure !
->keep your finger in this position for 3 seconds then follow attentively the direction for positioning ..each position 3 seconds
And here you have it, I am hitting it 100% of the time with dry or sweaty fingers!
->-> bonus it works in every orientation of you fingers even upside down!!
youtube ->A70 sensor work under all orientations!

Fingerprint in Android Q for A70 fixed
I have an A70, and had the same problem as all of you are having, with the fingerprint, but I have just solved it.
What you need to do is download samfirm, and look for the firmware, from Bolivia, with this date: 21/03/2020.
Just flash this firmware from Bolivia, with this date, and your fingerprint problems will get fixed.

it works fine for me

An easier solution is to first remove all fingerprints then reboot.
Clean you phone screen. Also wash your hands too.
When boot complete re-register your fingerprint.
Since you can register three fingers in total, register the finger you will most commonly use to unlock phone two times. Make sure you change your finger position everytime you scan it
The type of screen protector you use can also affect fingerprint scanner
Matt protectors fail the scanner.

You can try to register the same fingerprint multiple times from different angles, so that way it has a better chance of picking it up.
I used to do this on my note 4, as the swipe fingerprint it had was never too accurate.
Well,it does pick up the registered finger print,it just all of a sudden does that only after waking the screen with double tap!!!
Might be sensor being block by screen protector? Remove screen protector and reapply again if there is

faint red Led

Hello fellow lenovo p2 owners i purchased this phone 2 days ago everything most things seem to be working fine apart from a couple of quirks. double tap to wake is hit n miss which is rather annoying but i can live with it in the hope future software will fix it. On another note i have noticed their is very faint red led light always on to the left of the speaker after i turn the screen off. Has anyone experienced this issue with the faint red led which when the screen is switched on goes off but whenever the screen is off i can see it light up just left of the speaker. I am concerned that this led might affect the battery usage in some way iff it is always on. should i take it back to the shop on account of this faint light always being on which appears much brighter in complete darkness. t
Thankyou all for reading.
That's the proximity sensor. Have you got any apps that use it?

Hi thanks for the reply the only app I think might be using it is Ac display but not sure.
OK fixed its a false alarm its definetly the app AC display which is using the sensor while screen off because i disabled the app and the red faint light vanished. the only other thing left is double tap to wake is fragile and needs about 10 taps to wake screen sometimes. Hopefully this is software related.
Why use double tap when you can touch sensor once to wake the screen?
not too sure but i prefer double tapping the middle of the screen rather than all the way up on a specific point where the sensor is.
Finger print is at bottom. Can also click it once with a non registered finger to bring lock screen up.
Kind of think dttw is redundant on a phone with front finger print sensor and physical home button.
To reduce the wear-and-tear like in iPhone home button...

As for me, I'll use the DTTW feature just to see the time and glance thru incoming notifications and if nothing important, the screen will turn off after 5 seconds... If we wake the screen, then, we have to turn off the screen "manually" (unless we set the display off timing to 5 seconds...or DTT-sleep is implemented...)
If we were to always "press" the home button, there is high change of "wear-and-tear" failure in the near future...
My iPhone 4 after 3 years, the home button failed due to "wear-and-tear" because too many double-click to get to the background apps...now the iPhone is running "virtual floating button"...LOL...
My current Note 5 home button seems to be very reliable which is now closed to 2 years ownership... But I'm not too confident at P2a42's front fingerprint scanner "durability"... Hence, I'll try to reduce the "clicking" actions as much as possible...
I wonder after warranty ended, how much is the repair cost for the fingerprint scanner... Should be less than 20% of the selling price...
Can see your point. I never own a phone 2 years lol so makes no difference to me. Don't think I have had a phone 12 months before either, just too addicted to em lol.

[ULTIMATE GUIDE] Fingerprint sensor speeding up

Hey there..
I've had the phone for a few weeks and like most of you I wasn't satisfied with the performance of the fingerprint sensor. After tying all the how-to and walk-through guides to no avail, I decided to give something a try and to my surprise the FP sensor is working flawlessly.
So, here is how;
While registering your finger, touch the sensor as Lightly as possible and keep moving it around till it's registered. While unblocking the phone don't press too hard on the sensor area, use the same light touch that you used to register your finger.
It's been working like a charm without the dreadful 'no match' error for over 10 days.
Hope this helps.
Too much theories, everyone say its, but this phone needs software upgrade indeed.

Give this one a try. :good:
I'll give it a try. Thanks.
I also hate the fact that this phone let's you register only 3 fingerprints.
No way
All the same for me. When you using FP for a continuous time (a couple of a continuous opening) it's working like a charm, but after a "hour" of a rest all problems comes again
That's the truth from me.

I have the same problem. It's absolutely horible in the morning, for the second day in a row had to use pin to unlock. After that - all fine for a hour or two.
Maybe working how a wind blowing as i see

Got it now
Since April Update the fingerprint sensor is a bit better but still needs improvement.
I found two things:
1) We got the habit to just touch the sensor and it unlocks rapidly with our previous phones with normal sensor. The fact is that is when you put you finger on the screen we tend to remove it rapidly or to put too much pressure that the sensor cannot read it. That is my personal findings.
2) Found a post on XDA A50 section but unable to find it now but the trick works for me. When you are registering your fingerprint as example fingerprint 1 put the same thumb from left and right hand each time. Example your percentage registration is 15% your put your right thumb as soon as it increases you put the left thumb and so on until it complete registration. You can use all the three slots with doing so and it increases the responsiveness of the sensor while unlocking. I used only two slots since my girlfriend uses one on my phone and it works very well.
Have a try and let me know.

Here some tricks to try for FP speeding up.
As 1st, dlete all entered finger prints. After that lower the phone light at minimum (Adaptive Brightness keep ON and slider set to minimum).
As 2nd, form a three fingerprints with only one finger frequently used with such so light screen touching.
As 3rd, return to Adaptive Brightness and OFF/ON it on button.
After that my FP sensor react as a charm in any case. I don't use AOD. Just lock screen.
But i have made som goodness with my wish picture as a lock screen. I have made a light white circle with the dimension and a positin like a FP sensor so it helping me to light the FP area
Here is my picture so You can use it to form Yours own.

I couldn't understand what you said in step 2 and 3. Can you please explain?
2nd: Add 3 FP but every FP with the same finger from various angles and just a soft, soft screen touching (not hard pressing) with Brightnes seted to min
3rd: After FP entering, go to Adaptive Brightness and turn it off and on to set the auto brightness vslue.
That's it.

Yes, I used your wallpaper. Kudos to you for coming up with such an innovative idea. But my FP sensor works the same with other wallpapers also. Not much gain in speed.

Ghost touches in pocket? [Proximity sensor issue]

Anyone think that perhaps the proximity sensor of this device doesn't work always?
After using my phone if I put it in my pocket without locking I expect that it will not register ghost/accidental touches but I don't think the phone handles that very well. Often when I pull out the phone I can see some random screen got opened.
Are others also facing this issue?

Not random screen opening but once i remove it out of my pocket i get a warning screen saying accidental touch protection is on or something.
Or sometimes a clock, the one on the lock screen where you just tap on it and it zooms in the clock.
Have you turned ON the Accidental Touch Protection? I initially had Ghost Touch problems during jogging but with the change of placement of the phone, i now dont have the problem. Make sure that the screen faces the pocket side not the thigh side. Most of the ghost touches happen while interaction with the thigh.

The setting was already on. Anyway I toggled it off and on again just in case. Making the phone face outwards in the pocket may work as a suggestion, but it still probably implies that the phone is not doing a good job in blocking these accidental touches. I also like the screen inwards in case I hit a table edge or something.
The other setting I did is to ensure the phone locks itself quickly after the screen goes off. Earlier I had it at a higher value and its possible the device was switching on to an unlocked state. This is working a little but in my old devices I recall I was able to pocket even if the screen was on and i didn't really have this issue.
Accidental Touch option don't working well as need it.
Sometimes working and sometimes don't but proximity sensor working like a charm
Think it's a software bug.
Working like on a wind

Question Proximity sensor failure

Currently running Pixel Experience Plus android 11. Others dont report the same problem.
Would this be ROM based, firmware based, vendor based, or what else ??
Its a major annoyance as the tap to wake, face unlock, and position of the fingerprint reader all mean this wakes in pocket constantly.
Tried hard resets etc but stumped.

The reality is there is no proximity sensor present in mi 11x
and in miui the call screen becomes black as miui using accelerometer and some kind of hack to do that.

So this constant pocket activation is a feature ??
I cant believe everyone is just living with this ??
Unfortunately it is so and this explains why even if the phone is away from the ear but placed vertically the screen turns black.

Is that only with MIUI ??
So what combination of settings are people using to minimize this ??
I haven't had a phone without a proximity sensor in years, I didnt even think one would be sold that way.. Its unusable like this, constantly waking in pockets, error input and attempted unocks etc
Testing it (pixel experience plus) my phone never senses, in any orientation.. Others report some form of sensing.
Upright.. hand to phone.. hand over phone.. I am not getting anything.
It wakes on movement.. It wakes to attempt face unlock (I guess).. It wakes on screen touch,, it never overrides that despite there being an option to prevent accidental wake up (which has no noticeable effect). I dont see what combo of settings may be correct here.
Its currently flat out unusable.. Its a mobile phone which you cannot put in your pocket and which wakes as you carry it. People cant be just accepting this...
The Truth is truth that this phone doesn't have proximity sensor

thats now shockingly understood..
But other people report some kind of gyro / light sensor / accelerometer / etc combination thats providing some useability. Useability I dont have (Pixel experience plus 11).

You cant put it in your pocket !!! What kind of mobile phone cant be put in a pocket or carried..

I don't get what your problem is, plz describe it better. You say that you have problem with proximity sensor, but then you go on to say that your phone unlocks in your pocket for no reason and I see no connection between these two statements. Proximity sensor works only during calls, it has nothing to do with preventing unlocking tge smartphone in your pocket. Are you sure that you're not accidentally putting your finger on the fingerprint reader when you put it in the pocket? If you want, you can make the fingerprint reader read your fingerprint only after you press the power button, mere touching will not unlock it. But you have to change it in settings in MIUI, I am not sure how it works on your Custom ROM.
I have no problems you describe on my Poco F3 unit. If reverting to stock MIUI doesn't work, consider sending it for a warranty repair.
