Low Speaker Volume on Call? - Nokia 8.1 Questions & Answers

I had Nokia 7 Plus, it had an issue with the USB port which the service center couldn't fix, so they replaced it with Nokia 8.1
The speaker works well with music and videos, but on call, it's too low. What should I do?

Media volume (music and videos) is different from call volume. Check the call volume when you're in a call. I don't have the device, but this is a common "problem". They should be clear about it, but unfortunately they aren't. Hope it works out for you

Hard luck. Get it checked. Shouldn't be a problem since it's still under warranty

Volume+ (Sound Boost) temp anecdote for low speaker volume issue!!

The exact search term is " Volume+ (Sound Boost) " in the android market . You can copy & paste that into the android market search field minus the quotation marks. The free version doesn't have sound boost in it's title and the volume level won't go up high enough. In preferences in the app, you need to be able to select somewhere between 8-10. Too low, nothing and too high doesn't work either.
Very important, when you download the app for the first time, there is quick one time visual tutorial. Do everything exactly what it says to do, if not, won't work. If you can take screen shots of the directions, your better off. After that one time, you would have to un—install and than re—install to see it again. It only comes up right after the initial install.
The only variance is your volume number in the preferences . Test, if it's working, by listening to the preset ring tones in the system settings of the phone.
I was afraid, that I might of had to exchange the phone because the speaker volume was so bad. This app makes a significant difference.

You can get the full version for free from the developers site which has a link in the Market page of the lite version.
I keep mine set on 10 and it gives me the perfect volume.
It's the way the phone should have come.....
I am surprised samsung or google have not rectified this with the last 2 ota updates.

By any chance do you remember the steps? I just bought the app but accidently pressed the back button on the tutorial part. Is there anyway to go back to it?

yeah the voice is still like that in 4.0.2 (usa/lte); almost feel guilty about using navigation, sounds like the poor woman is getting tortured; I run it through my car speakers so it's loud of enough
thanks guys it helps alot

FYI there is an updated version at developers site 1.8.0.6 that adds ability to view the tutorial on demand.
I bought V+ and it helped with some of the settings, but not all. I rooted the phone as well. I might be returning it. It is a big disappointment.
Has anyone tried this with a bluetooth headset? I tried and am not getting any results. Tried "Headset" and tried "Bluetooth" settings, separately and together.

Do you do that natively with a bluetooth head unit. I have a car with bluetooth head unit and when I make a call and I'm using Nav at the same time it plays the Nav through the speakers....otherwise it doesn't.
Wondering if I can do likewise so any information would be greatly received.
Thanks

Some people have speaker problem, i have microphone issue, Sony is just making pathetic phones with cheap hardwares. secondary mic works flawslessly, like it even catches the sound from a meter distance, but primary mic i should yell at it, which makes phone call very difficult.
I have an xperia zr and I absolutely love it except for one thing : very low in call volume. I'm not sure if it's fixable. Unticking the speaker voice enhancement (I think this is the name) under call settings seemed to help a little but not by much.

you guys wont believe what i am about to say.
I bought my ZL just one week ago,(though i have a Neo V) . I was really sad about this whole "low call volume" thing.
then i saw the latest firmware update (am in India) today and updated few hours ago to 10.3.1.A.2.67, with the hope of having this call volume bug corrected.
i was not interested in the fancy lock-screen widget, transparent notification bar bla bla bla as i was happy with 4.1 JB. But i updated it only for the sake of fixing the call volume bug.
BUT to my disappointment i found the phone working fine just as promised...but call volume is still low!!!!!! even after a restart!!
frustrated i did something i read somewhere but cannot recall - i used a clean dry toothbrush and brushed the earphone grill!! yes you read it right...and guess what?? IT WORKED!! the volume is way higher than before ..though i request Sony to bring a update to fix this volume bug..but for time being it works for me....
PS - keep all those enhancement settings bla bla UNTICKED as said before.
and keep the earphone grill JUST below your ear-hole.
lol a toothbrush or vacuum can definitely solve this issue
if the incall volume still the same, that might be hardware problem though

The only way to adjust the incall settings increase volume is by pressing the volume up button whilst active and phoning someone, this is the only way to adjust the internal volume , sony shop eventually fixed this after 3 visits

Also found that, but when I turn on "ClearAudio+" (Settings > Sound & notification > Audio settings) the speaker gets louder.
I hope I've helped.

I have some, Microphone is too low, other party cant hear a thing. even I disabled noise canceling mic but still problem exists.
2 - when someone calls, the notification light goes crazy and turns on and off very fast. and sometimes ringtone doesn even play.
3- earpiece volume is too low too
Thus far all I am aware of was the WiFi bug. I had to re-flash lollipop three times to get my WiFi to work ( updated through PC companion)
The only bug I found is that when you turn on Ultra STAMINA Mode and you turn it back off, all the apps you've previously disabled get enabled, so you have to disable them again. Otherwise, I'm having killer perfomance and battery life (4hs of SOT, with KK I had less than 3 and with every Lollipop AOSP-based ROM I got a bit more than 3) so I'll just ignore the Ultra STAMINA Mode and it's all good.
I found that volume levels are loud enough for me, perhaps it's because I have not been using stock for a while.
Every time I make a phone call, the in-call volume is set to 50%.
I increase it and the moment the screen turns off as I put the phone next to my ear, it'll stay at 100 for a while and again fall back to 50!
In case of whatsapp calls, I can change it to 100 but it will fall to 50 every time, won't stay there even for a second.
Started facing this problem when I updated to Lollipop, no such issues on KitKat.
I'm using the US FTF on an Indian phone.
Please help as I like the Lollipop update, it has increased the battery life a lot.

No skip/fast-forward in videos
If I try to skip to 2:30 for example in a video (with Chrome), the video just gets stuck and doesn't play anymore. But if I let it play from start without skipping, everything is just fine.
I googled this and it can be possible that you have to disable NuPlayer in the developers options, but that doesn't seem to work for me?
I hope someone can help or knows a workaround to make skipping work!

volume boost help !!!!

hi,
i'm working in a noisy enviroment and my HTC 10 doesnt ring very loud, ive changed the values on mixer path (rx7&rx8) but volume is still the same. how can i get this HTC louder? I would appreciate any comments. many thanks. :good:
Hi there!
in several post in this page ( xda) and another like android central i have asked about this problem without solutions. When the phone rings only sounds in the bottom speaker, but not in the upper , and for this the sound ringer volume is so low and the poor quality ( don't think to place a mp3 song like a ringtone, it' ll be worst even) . When you are choosing a ringtone in the preview this sound in both speakers, when you receive a call with headphones connected sound in both speakers, but when you receive a call only sounds by the bottom speaker, i wrote to the HTC chat for to notify this without any solution yet
I have noticed the volume to be very poor on the 10
But as I've pointed this out for weeks, others apparently do not notice it as much as we do

I tried Viper4 Android. .... I think if properly installed and setup it helps
But re-installing it every time I flash is a pain
There are some mixer-path edits (in the system/etc folder that can help some. I just extracted LeeDroids version from that ROM and keep it on my SD card. They help too.... I may try to tweak even a little louder

I received a Pixel 2 XL that had the low volume in WhatsApp. The phone worked fine in voice calls (and strangely, Heytell), but WhatsApp and Google Allo voice messages were both recorded at an unusually low volume. I reported it to Google, they said it was an app issue. I reported it to whatsapp, they said it was a phone issue. I received an RMA replacement Pixel 2 XL that behaved in exactly the same manner as the first.
I then ordered a regular Pixel 2, and it does not have this issue. The volume recorded in WhatsApp is normal.

I can't say for certain with a sample size of two, but the two I tested had manufacturing dates a month apart. To be audible without the recipient having to enable speakerphone at max volume and hold the speaker to their ear, I have to hold the bottom of the phone very close to my mouth and speak significantly louder than normal. This would seem to be a relatively simple software fix, and Google has been good about pushing out fixes. Without an acknowledgement of the issue and a promised resolution, though, this goes in the negative column with high importance to me and will be enough to sway me to the Pixel 2.
The two Pixel 2 XLs also had displays with noticeably different color temperature, which seemed odd to me. The replacement was much nicer, despite having an earlier manufacture date.

Okay so tested with allo and vol is low
It is certainly a microphone issue
I think in 8.1 dp2 the issue for video recording which was fixed may also be the case for our low volume
So just wait for the update or update to 8.1 dp2 and test
Cheers ?
