[ROOT] Magisk guide to root any official emui 9 P20 - Huawei P20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everyone,
Maybe it's already explain in old thread but i didn't find information easily.
Also i tried a lot of method and spend time before to find how works, hope this can help beginners and others
( also sorry for bad english, i'm French )
Before all, please backup all your data with hisuite, just a precaution not mandatory
Only works with unlock bootloader
Tools need:
- HuaweiUpdateExtractor ( 0.9.9.3 works, 0.9.9.5 don't seems work )
- Fastboot mode ( P20 shutdown, hold vol down and plug usb C cable )
Steps:
- Find & download your official rom version, you need the update.zip
- Extract update.zip
- Use HuaweiUpdateExtractor and extract your RECOVERY_RAMDIS from update.app
- Copy RECOVERY_RAMDIS to root of you P20 storage
- Install Magisk apk from official website; update Magisk if need
- in Magisk, choose install with zip and select your RECOVERY_RAMDIS
Magisk works and make a new file magisk_patched in download folder by default
- Back to windows, plug your P20 and copy the magisk_patched to your computer
- Enter in fastboot mode
- type "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched.img"
Here steps to focus:
- type "fastboot reboot"
- Unplug the P20, wait for boot vibration and hold vol up button until you see "Your device has been unlocked"
If you're not sure, shutdown P20, hold vol up and press power button until vibration.
Release power button and keep hold vol up until "Your device has been unlocked"
- Check Magisk app, P20 is rooted
Important ! When you get new OTA update, don't update with root and the magisk_patched file.
- Extract again your RECOVERY_RAMDIS from actual version
- type "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY_RAMDIS" to place original recovery_ramdisk
- type "fastboot reboot" ( don't need to hold any button this time )
- Update your phone with OTA update
- Find & download your new rom version and follow this guide from beginning
Important ! Each time you reboot your phone, you need to press and hold vol up button
If you don't, you lose the root benefit
Don't worry, just reboot and press and hold vol up
Information: while your press the vol up button at boot, you won't see the erecovery option
Enjoy !

[How-to] software unbrick P6-T00

I tried to install a custom rom to obtain all english and google services on my P6-T00 and ended up software bricked, took a lot of work and research to resolve, would like to share to the community.
1. Download the shipped P6-T00 rom here to your FAT32 formatted SDcard
(should be: dload\UPDATE.APP)
2. Download the shipped P6-T00 shipped rom recovery here and flash once in fastboot mode via 'fastboot flash recovery b120stockRECOVERY.img' (if <waiting for device> appears, ensure drivers are installed)
3. MUST UNPLUG USB CABLE for stock recovery to read stock rom from SDcard.
4. 'fastboot reboot' and hold both 'volume up & down' when goes black until recovery appears
5. Stock recovery will start checking each file within stock rom automatically, install automatically, and reboot automatically once complete.
FAQ:
Q. I see no sign of being in bootloader mode, is it working?
A. Ascend P6 stays on standard white boot screen while in bootloader mode, device being recognized can be confirmed in 'Device Manager'
Q. How do I enter fastboot mode?
A. Hold volume down + power upon booting, if stuck at screen already, hold volume up + volume down + power for 10 seconds and phone will reboot.
Thanks!

First of all you need to know your device's bootloder is locked or unlocked for that type *#*#7378423#*#* in dial pad then go to service info >configuration and check for bootloder unlock allow
If it say yes then it's unlock
If it says no then it is locked
Do as follow for unlocking the bootloder
You need your device's IMEI number and a password for unlocking your bootloder
You can get your password by following link
Do step by step
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
1)switch off your device and open flashtool(download from following link)
2)select the unlock bootloder and connect your phone with flash mode by keep pressing vol. Down button and connect the cable LED light will turn green and then it will off
3)enter Your device's IMEI number and the password you got from Sony
4)click on unlock
Now your bootloder is unlocked so now can install custom recovery like XZdualrecovery,TWRP,CWM (unfortunately CWM is not supported in 5.1.1)
For installation of recovery you need to download full Rom from Xperifrim or other source and convert it into Ftf file
You need 1) kernel which have recovery pre-installed like doomlord's kernal for D5303 device for Android 4.3
2)For recovery which work with it just download latest version of XZdualrecovery for T2 ultra from thread and download the Release file (there are 2 file which are located there one is release and second is installer)
Download it on phone and move it on place whare you can find it easily
1) Now switch off your phone open flashtool
2) select flash sign and select fastboot mode
3) Now connect your phone with computer in fastboot mode by keep pressing vol.up button and connect the cable and LED light will turn blue
4)select doomlord's kernel file for flashing (it'll be on img format so select img from file type)
And flash it
5)Now disconnect your phone and boot it. When Sony logo appear and then keep pressing vol.down button alternatively it will boot you to CWM recovery
Now touch is not working... You can move upper option by volume Up button and downward option by volume down button for selecting the option press power button
Select install >install from SD card or external SD(where you placed a file)
Select flash and recovery will install then for back to exit there is (/) sign which can bring you to previous menu then exit from recovery by pressing vol.up button and power button holding together until it vibrate 3 times now your phone is power offed
6)Now click on flash button on flashtool and select flash mode
Then choose your latest 5.1.1 rom and now do as instruction or your data will lost
1) first you choosed a rom to flash now it will show a dialogue box that how many files are in that rom for flash now on right top you have 2 check box ( data and cache) uncheck both of them.
2) under that you have Exclude box which have check boxes too
Now check all boxes(system, some other things) but make sure only kernal remain uncheck
Now click on flash button
It will ask for connect your phone in flash mode by holding vol.down button and connect the cable
Now it will flash only kernal file all other files will remain same
Disconnect your phone and boot it until Sony logo appear and keep pressing vol.down button alternatively .... It will boot to TWRP recovery which is Easy to use and touch is also working now for get back to normal boot just select last option reboot and it will your
(while you want to enter into recovery keep pressing vol down button alternatively until LED blink green or some other colour.after it blinked you can't boot to recovery)
Hit thanks button if this helped you... And ask if you stuck at somewhere
This was simple tutorial and you are doing this all at your own risk I am not responsible for any damage of your device.
If it says bootloader unlock allowed YES then you can unlock it and use custom roms if it says bootloader unlock allowed NO there is nothing you can do to change it and you can only use stock or stock based roms if you won't or can't unlock bootloader root is still available and so is recovery

My device keeps booting into recovery

I installed MIUI latest beta update this morning. After it finished the installation, it opened recovery. I turned it off keeping finger on power button for 10 seconds and it opened recovery. What I should do? Volume up button doesn`t work and neither I can`t start bootloader.

Id like to beg for help with rooting my RN 8 Pro

Basically I have rooted my old Redmi Note 4 but that was past guarantee so I did not care that much.
My current RN 8 Pro is still 1 year in guarantee so I literally do not have the balls to do it on my own.
Is there any good soul who would help me out with rooting it, pretty please? Thanks very much in advance
btw. I do know stuff about Unlocking Boot Loader, installing TWRP trough Command Window and Flashing Magisk...that should be potentially enough but as I said above no balls and do not want to F things up and brick it.

Hello once again...I might need some help
I was following these steps but after flashing this TWRP I cant enter into the TWRP...so far Ive tried holding power button then pressing Volume +; holding power button and then holding Volume+; even holding them both but still without any result...any chance you might help me here, please?
*EDIT: Im flashing stock ROM
Go to the system then do
adb reboot recovery
I flashed TWRP recovery once again, then I went for "adb reboot recovery". This is what happened after I used "adb reboot recovery" (attached picture). There is no sign about TWRP. What am I doing wrong? I literally followed the guide the flash of the recovery TWRP is successful. Is there any chance that Im flashing wrong TWRP recovery? Or that Im doing it on stock ROM? Usually its problem between chair and keyboard but I dont know :-/.
So Ive tried to boot TWRP through after flashing it with "fastboot boot twrp.img". It went through but it booted like normal so I ended up in system like when you turn on your phone normally.
Anybody, anything please?

First: what version of miui?
If you're on miui 12.5 this method will cause reboot.
If your phone is < 12.0.X its okay.
It looks like flashing recovery worked.
Instead of trying to adb reboot recovery after flashing recovery try this:
- When it's done, Remove cable and Hold Power + Vol. Up when phone starts turning on leave the power button but keep pressing Vol. UP until TWRP splash Screen shows up.
Version of MIUI: MIUI Global 12.0.5; Stable 12.05.0(QGGEUXM)

I was already trying that, if I do it how you typed the screen is gonna keep blinking with MIUI logo.
I was looking for the answers and I found smth about "fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img" to disable android verified boot, but dunno if its my case on stock ROM or not.

First you need to enter recovery, i think you didn't flash boot.
Follow the method below exactly.
Original post and files can be found here.
If error occurs..
1. Go to Minimal ADB and Fastboot in C: of your PC. Open Fastboot folder and Press Shift+Right Click and Select Open Command Window Here at the CMD type fastboot devices and enter (check if it's recognized the device).
2. Enter the following commands: fastboot flash boot boot.img and Enter then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and Enter. We have flashed clean boot and TWRP.
3. Disconnect the phone from the PC, hold the Power button as the screen goes blank immediately hold Volume + the TWRP splash screen will appear and disappear still hold the button when the TWRP splash screen appears a second time release Volume +. The recovery_fromboot.p file is already deleted earlier.
5. Go to Mount in TWRP check data, system, vendor, nvdata and now you can decrypt DATA by formatting in TWRP Wipe-Fotmat Data, write yes and swipe.
6. Disconnect the phone from the PC, hold the Power button as the screen goes blank immediately hold Volume + the TWRP splash screen will appear and disappear still hold the button when the TWRP splash screen appears a second time release Volume +. If Chinese language change to English. If TWRP will ask you the password (this means that there is DATA encryption)click on CANCEL and get to the main screen.
We go to the mount, put check on data, system, vendor, nvdata and MicroSD card (if the phone has a memory card).
Press home to return to the main screen Choose Advanced-File Manager item >system_root / system / folder at the bottom there is a recovery_fromboot.p file delete it.
Go back to Advanced and select Close AVB2.0 and flash the archive with a swipe to the right.
Again, we go along the Advanced-File Manager path in the root, look for the supersu folder in it, select the SuperSu_installer.zip fileand flash it with a swipe to the right. This is an archive from Magisk_19.4 it will patch boot. The firmware of this archive should go WITHOUT a single error, all lines should be white and at the end of DONE. If everything was done without errors in the TWRP select the Reboot-System. The first boot will be a little long and Don't Panic when boot up check the Magisk Manager>Settings>Update Settings>Stable Channel.
I dont have any boot.img in my folder so I cant flash the boot.img. Having stock ROM and I have no clue where to get it.
My current ROM is MIUI Global 12.0.5; Stable 12.05.0 (QGGEUXM) and I think I just found it here on this link:
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/begonia/stable/V12.0.5.0.QGGEUXM/
Can anybody experience confirm that Im suppose to copy out the boot.img out of it and then copy&paste it into Minimal ADB and Fastboot in C: of my PC and then going for the "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as the last msg from Donkyshot says?
Tyvm
Id appreciate any help
Everything I did try is above.

Thanks. I used the boot.img and I was following the guide which "donkyshot" sent. But I got stucked right after I did those commands in command Window. I disconnected the phone went for the power button hold and then when it was blank I stopped holding power button and I started holding the Volume+ button. The phone was bootlooped on Xiaomi logo...I was waiting several times but nothing. At the end I had to flash the phone with stock ROM I downloaded through MiFlash...I really dont know what I was doing wrong.
