"Contacts do display" option where? - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
Bought a A2 Lite yesterday and on the dial contacts I can't find the option of "Contacts to display" like I'm used to find in all android phones, and also working on Xiaomi A1/A2.

Where is the option? On the google contacts app I can choose on my left dashboard to show only some contacts, but it doesn't affect the contacts showing on the dial app

Both dialer and contacts are standard Google apps. Perhaps you are used to some other vendor's apps? You can get alternatives from the play store.
Google Dialer has favourites, which is a subset of contacts you select (plus recent contacts you've called). That sounds like what you are describing?

Do you have a A2 Lite to see this issue?
I know they're Google apps but it should have a "Contacts do display" option, as present on A1/A2 phones. Adding to the Favorite list one by one (I have about 250 contacts that I need to add) is insane!! Or can we select several contacts to the Favorite List at once? (can't find it)

Yes. I have the latest stock pie. The dialer and contacts apps have had many, many updates since I got the phone. I couldn't tell you if the feature was previously present or not.
If you have labels in contacts there's a choice to customize view and select a label. Maybe that's what happened to the feature?

I'm also on Pie (latest update) and have labels on my Google contacts (I have a label created for the SIM contacts that I usually use on my android phones). As I said, I can select to show only that label on the "Contacts" but not on the "Dial contacts"

[Q] quick question about contacts

Is there a way to combine contact list? Im still little new to android phoness (had a Touch Pro 2) and i guess it is set up to show list from your phone and any google account seperate. When i add a new contact i have to choose one list or the other....is there a way to either have both phone list synced/merge or for me to save the new contact on both list? I would really only like to deal with one list is possible. Thanks
it sets it up to show all at once. you can choose to see which account contacts to display but defualt, its all merged

[Q] Disable contact pictures

hey!
just a short question: is it somehow possible to disable (remove!) the contact pictures that come with facebook-contact-sync?
thanks!
theo
edit: I am using InsertCoin HD-port
If it's just the Facebook ones you don't want, go into the settings of the facebook app and choose to not sync. Or if you don't want them to show at all go into the preferences of the Contact app.
I would like to sync all the facebook-contacts, but I don't want the facebook-contact-pictures coming with syncing "Facebook for HTC Sense".
the normal facebook app is not synchronising at all.
Open up the Contacts app and go through the settings to disable contact icons. To sync fully with Facebook, just go into the app, go into the settings and select sync all. If this doesn't work, go into Accounts and Sync and manually do it from there instead.

YES! thats what I want
but I can't find any "settings-menu" in contacs app ("people").
I am on InsertCoin HD Port - android 2.2.1
in contacts app I have only
-add contact
-view
-delete
-import/export
-search
-more (>blocked callers & linked contacts)
where can I find the option to disable contact icons?
THANKS!
Press the menu button on your Desire and it will bring up a little menu then just select settings. No idea what it's like on InsertCoin but should be still the same. They are there, you just have to find them. But seriously, press menu > settings.
arrr.
I feel like a real noob...I just can't find it :-(
as described above, when I am in my contacts app ("people") and press the menu-button I have only
-add contact
-view
-delete
-import/export
-search
-more (>blocked callers & linked contacts)
THERE IS NO "SETTINGS" option.
if you dont trust me I will upload some screenshots
cant imagine that there is no option like this in my HD-port...maybe I should ask in the Desire HD-forum...
nevertheless..thanks!
Sorry mate. I know what you mean now. Bloody native Android has it so you can get rid of the contact icon but Sense doesn't. I installed Sense earlier and I can't find anything. Guess you could get a 3rd party app and use that but as far as I can tell, it's not going to happen.

"All Contacts" vs "My Contacts"

Gmail automatically adds contacts you've emailed into your contact list, they belong to "All Contacts" group.
Manually added contacts belong to "My Contacts" group.
But I couldn't get the phone to display *only* "My Contacts". (Contacts -> Hide/Show -> Google...)
Tried Googling the issue, solutions available but don't seem to work on Defy/Motorola.
Any idea?
Thx in advance.
Anyone...?
I have the same problem, which I posted to the Motorola Owners forums as well, only I don't just want to not display those contacts, but prevent then from syncing as well. I can't yet post working links:
supportforums.motorola.com/thread/47333?tstart=0
After syncing my new Defy with my Google account, I've found all the contacts in the phone - not just the meaningful ones from My Contacts that have phone numbers and names - but every last single email address has created a separate contact in the phone.
My question is this: how can I limit the synced contacts to a group, like My Contacts in GMail?

So far, I have not found a way to limit the display or the syncing of these contacts.
There are 2 apps for contacts, the one that is embedded in the dialer (the one that SUCKS), and the other is a stand alone Contacts which allows yo Manage groups in a certain way. I'd like to have good one embedded in the Dialer next to Recent and Favorites.. but im no dev. An certainly is annoying having to switch between them.

[Q] How to remove default app links on a rooted phone..??

Hello Frnds,
Recently I rooted my phone as I wanted to remove my stock SMS app due to missing functions as described in my previous post and also to remove the stock contact app as there is no provision to add birthday. After rooting, I removed these two apps and some of unwanted apps provided by SE. I installed new phonebook app and Handcent SMS app and I was happy unless I needed to add a new contact to my phonebook. When I click on add new contact , it showed me an error message saying application not found to handle this. When I again reinstalled the removed Contacts app back and click on add new contact from my new phonebook app, it opened the add new contact page of the Contacts app i.e. without Birthday entry. I was so annoyed to see that I landed up on the same path from where I had started.. Can anyone tell me how can I chagne the default link so that I can use the Add Contact funtion of new app Phonebook and not of the Contacts app.
Most of such replacement apps, especially messaging ones, need to work along with the corresponding default one. As far as I know, only GO SMS can work individually, but again, it's not recommended to uninstall such vital system apps because they are deeply integrated in stock ROM.

Thanks for ur reply.. But as u must know that there is not provision to add birthdate in the stock contacts app and even if I add some other app from market which has provision to add birthday and click on add new contact, it again opens the same stock contacts app's add contact page...

That last part is the third-party app's issue.
See, there are three elements in a Contacts app: the dialer, the contact list and the contact viewer.
Some apps include only the first two, thus when you open a contact, stock app (and more specifically InfiniteView) appears.
As for birthdays, if you sync your contacts with Facebook inside Xperia, you'll get them.
Or you could add a note to each contact with their birthday.

Changing the "recent contacts" messaging app when sharing.

There is a REALLY cool feature I'd like to be able to utilize where the G4 pulls up your most recent contacts when you start to share something.
*see attached image* (names and numbers have been edited out for privacy reasons)
Only problem is, that even though my default messaging app is Next SMS if I select one of these recent contacts at the top. It still opens up "messaging" to send the message. Which actually is very limiting because it doesn't like not being default with MMS's.
Is there an easy way to change that behavior?
Thanks,
Gilligan
