Ok, here we are giving a chance to samsung to catch up and to improve its value in the competition. It is all about improving the product so stop being so shallow minded!

Now I feel I've made the right choice!

I really was leaning towards the amaze because I like taking pictures and no disrespect, but amaze takes better frekken pictures! I had a gut feeling that development would be better here then the amaze forums which is why I bought this phone and damn was I right! I check now and then at amaze forums to see how progress is going along and it seems there's really only one developer doing work. Granted Xboarder56 is good but he's still only one. There's about five or so developers cranking out some great stuff for the sgs2. I can't believe how quickly everything is progressing for this phone. All in all, I wish the sgs2 had the wide angle lens that amaze has but I'd much rather have a better all around phone. This phone is going to be crazy and I'm glad I've made the decision to buy this. Devs for the sgs2 are the SH*T!!!!!!
you can do panoramic photos as soon as we get ICS upgrade
The option for panoramic photos is actually already built into the SGS2 camera. This is definitely the best camera I've ever owned and it easily outdoes my girlfriend's digital camera.

I hate to contradict, but not so. My panoramic mode does auto take pics. I just press the button once and move the camera across the scene. When I want to stop I press the button again. I was surprised too because I thought this feature was exclusive to ICS.

[Q] Problems with this phone?

Any important reasons, as known issues, common problems or anything to know in order to avoid purchasing for this device?
I've read about battery issues related with being battery li-po type.
Anything that I should know about?
It looks quite fragile and breakable too, but thats another problem, lol.

Problems? You are a glass-half-empty guy aren't you? Lol
I think this is the best phone i could get in this price range, specs wise. At least in my country.
Battery is good so far. Certainly better than Xperia SP, even though it has less capacity. Amazing screen, speaker is clear, good build quality. Camera is a bit meh though. Overall it's a really good phone. The only minus is it doesn't support external storage.
U r not going to have any problems with the battery. The is a excellent phone. The camera with low lighting has some quality issues, and the biggest problem is the lack of updates. We r stuck on android 4.1, the hardware is capable but the software is old, for example u can't use Bluetooth LE devices. ..
Battery will hold about 2 days, depending on your useage
Camera is best when used with another software
Audio quality is bad
The rest is pretty good, if you forget the lack of update from LG.
IMHO, I would go for a Nexus 4, same specs, fraction of the price, better support.
I droped it for 3 times and its ok!
But I bought full insurance

Well, not really. Just a realistic guy who cares about how industry and economy have led us to buy stuff that last 10 times less than things lasted before. I just want those 10 times to be reduced somehow so I study quite a lot what the perfect purchase would be among my interests.
The other phone that I was considering was actually the Xperia SP. Battery on the sp with stock rom performs perfect. We have this phone at home and I saw how it lasted 2 days using airplane mode at nights together with a moderate use along the day.
On the other hand, hardware is supposed to be worse, and actually less energy consumer -2 cores against 4. So I doubt about Xperia sp performing worse than optimus g in that field.

I think he means using third party software to take the photos. But it my experiencie it doesn't help too much since all the software use the same "limit/native values" or whatever u call them (aperture and shutter speed settings and so on) when taking a photo. So that means that, unless the "stock camera software" makes and awful work when choosing what paremeters to use, you won't notice big differences between obtained results.

OEM means "stock", like the one in the stock rom provided by LG.
The "LG Camera" is another software, found in the Play Store:

I don't know how come they called it "LGCamera", beats me! But it's not the camera software from LG!

Well I don't see where you wanna get. Actually I dont know which one do u like the most. I just see a more natural color but a much more noisy shot than with the second one.
Where I want to go is that you can get those 2 results with both app cameras, playing around with manual settings. The problem is that 90% of people don't use them and just press the butom and take the photo.
So what makes the difference when choosing one app instead the other is actually depending only on how the automatic mode works..
In part, I know I can get a better quality on the OEM software using custom ISO settings, but the image will get blurry easely, which is not realy an option unless you take "still subjects".
The grainy feel on the first one is realy beyond what I could consider an "average" quality.

[Q] Further Camera updates? HTC or Devs?

Since the .15/.17 updates, we have seen a modest improvement in camera quality, furthermore, the RAW mode has shown that the sensor and lens combination can take some decent shots, even in low light
(look here) http://www.anandtech.com/show/9211/a-quick-look-at-one-m9-raw-photos
Now, yes, we could all just shoot in raw and learn how to correct the profiles, but, simply put, we shouldn't have to.
It is evident that HTC's jpgs are not being processed well, resulting in poor images.
I've tweeted HTC to ask if there are further improvements coming, and I didn't get a real response. Does anyone in the know have details as to whether they have committed to continue working on their JPGs, or will this have to go to one of the hardworking devs here to do something about?
Personally i've found HTC jpeg shots look better than RAW, and even in the photo's you've linked it's better in JPEG to be fair.
The S6 and iphone don't impress me either.
All the shots are awful, so I wouldn't use any of them as low light or night time shooters.
I wouldn't expect too much more in the way of improvements and if this phone's camera isn't good enough for you, i'd give up and sell it because they're all much of a muchness and no substitute for an Ultrapixel or proper camera.
Would love to see ANY update. When is it coming to europe and Sweden? Hate waiting....
I don't know what to tell you, then. The S6 and the iPhone are pretty much the gold standard for camera phones right now, and to call them awful is pure hyperbole. You might be a pro photographer and prefer a DSLR or pro gear, but even a pro photographer would be able to know what the intended use were for camera phones and not resort to calling them "awful" when they're clearly quite good for what they are.
The HTC camera, however, is simply horrendous. For simple point & shoot operation, this is damn near unusable indoors, and much worse than my Nexus 5, which is generally regarded to have a pretty bad camera. HTC **** the bed on their processing, and need to put some engineers towards improving this before it hurts them even more. Fortunately, this CAN be done over an OTA, but somehow I doubt it will.

As I said, for POINT & SHOOT operation, this phone is absolutely awful. Like 99% of the population, I do not want, nor should I need, to tweak any settings to make the phone usable as a camera. Should manually adjusting the camera take BETTER pictures than point and shoot? Sure. But using the camera right out of the box should take semi decent pictures, not the blurry, pixelated mess that HTC's software produces. Saying "Oh, it'll work fine as soon as you adjust the contrast, exposure, saturation, etc etc etc" is NOT something that will work for the general public.
So don't call a camera phone awful, but it is ok to call one horrendous. Lol. My wife has the Note 4 and before that she had the Note 2. We have had other Samsung phones in the past. Her phone does take a slight better pics than mine, but let's not exaggerate it. For those spur of the moment memories, texts, and social media, my phone does just fine. I have found iPhones do produce really nice photos, but my understanding has been that Apple does a little extra with the processing and the end result is not a natural photo.

I've had the S6, it's quite adept at taking pictures. It's not DSLR quality, but as far as camera phones go, it's at the top for sure. Meanwhile, every single point & shoot picture out of the M9 comes out a pixelated mess.
I never said don't call a camera phone awful. I said you simply cannot take the gold standard out there and say it takes awful pictures. It's simply inaccurate. Meanwhile, for point & shoot, the M9 certainly is a poor performer.

Like I said. I did comparisons and I don't see where it is that bad. I don't know how much better a S6 camera is than a Note 4, but I doubt it is that great. But I guess it could be.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
I think a fair few of us in this thread agree that the M9 's hardware is CAPABLE of making some good shots, comparable to other flagships on the market. However, to GET to that point, it requires Manual intervention (or RAW). This is ok for 80% of the time, but when you have a short time to take a shot, it certainly falls short of other options.
This thread isn't to argue the semantics, rather asking what everything thinks is the next step for our camera, whether anyone in the know can share whether HTC will continue working on making the AUTO + JPGs better, or whether the notion that they will work on the camera was just a tick box action, and now we've had a small update, it is up to the independent devs to improve.

One member of staff had a thin, black case on it and honestly it felt very useless  I like the phone much better without any case, especially when there is no back glass to break.
It is super cool, smooth and responsive. I was going crazy when i saw it haha! It is seriously very cool. Although, most of the third party apps were locked to 60hz I could see that. Only the system apps and the dolby atmos app (I think) were in full 120hz.

Haha, I know right.
Screen colours were really good, although still not on OLED levels (still great lcd panel though). Brightness is the only thing that disappointed me about the screen, when I set the Razer phone to full brightness, it was the same brightness as when you set the S8+ to 30-40% brightness
Speakers are just nuts. No phone has speakers like that. Even though I could not hear it properly because there was a lot of people, screaming and music around, I could feel how the whole phone was vibrating only from the speakers. It is absolutely nuts, very loud, highs were very noticeable in the dolby atmos demo app and the bass is very good for phone speakers as well. They killed it in this regard lol.
I'm not a fan of the square-ish designs but it I liked this one, it feels very premium indeed. I have medium sized hands, it felt kinda big.
I really do want to get one, but I'm not sure yet. Price is very competitive, but I'm just so used to all the Samsung services (Samsung Pay, Health, Cloud, etc.) + I have a Gear S3 so I would lose a ton of features lol.
Software was smooth, imagine playing with the Pixel 2 but the screen is 120Hz (it's absolutely crazy smooth, I can't even believe it). I tried to lag it as much as I could but I just couldn't, there was not a single lag/stutter.
It's a great phone for sure and I was really hyped when I had it in my hands, but I'm not sure how I feel about the screen brightness and lack of any water-resistance rating. The camera performance was also very average - low light was bad, focusing was alright, but nowhere near the S8 focusing speed and details/closeups came up really good.

Same. I heard months ago, like in this article from Android Authority that AptX HD (as well as Hi-Res Bluetooth codecs like LDAC) come enabled with Android O via a Bluetooth codec menu.

How was the camera? I know they said they'd send some camera updates like 120Hz video capture, slow-motion capture, and portrait mode via OTA updates in the coming months as TechRadar stated.
However, I'd like to know about the camera quality performance?
I've seen some samples, but I'd like to know your first-hand experience.

Camera shutter lag

Hello,
Does anyone have this problem in the camera app where the shutter is slow to go off? I mean you press the shutter button and is takes like 1-2 seconds to take the shot.
This is annoying when trying to take pictures of moving kids and such because the pictures are blurry at best or the person is missing in the frame.
I have compared with other phones and they are much quicker to take the same shot....
Thanks.
I've had lag once or twice, the big issue I've got at the moment is the camera crashing and not saving photos that have been taken.
It tends to need a restart to get things working again

Do you have Chinese or international version?
I have the camera crash from time to time. But the shutter lag is always there even after restarts. Doe't know if it's common to all 20X devices

I've got the international version, I'm guessing a software fix could sort it out
