should I flash recent fastboot rom? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

hi,
I need advice again practically on the old matter. so since I bought my device I had always had wifi dcs. Most days I need to restart my phone 1-2 a day. I tried many things but it just doesn't get fixed. so I want to try something new. in may / june 2018 I got that phone which was on miui 9, I flashed twrp and some aosp roms. never gone back to miui, I always had arb3. last month I switched to arb4 oreo and immediately to pie firmware. but still nothing changed. now for a long time I noticed, if I flash any aosp rom I get the message like "target device 9.5.x.x". so while flashing my device show my old miui 9 version as target, never bothered by this. but now I wonder, what if I flash a recent fastboot rom with miflash to completely reset my phone. then reinstall twrp and any aosp rom again. do you guys thing that might change anything? well besides the number on "target device". right now I have most recent beta global firmware, can I flash recent stable global fastboot rom? (not sure about that arb4 thing, does it count as rollback?).
thanks in advance

Well who is interested, I did what I wrote and stayed on miui 10 for now. I had 2 days in a row no wifi dc. I test some more and then return to aosp and test there.

It's always safe to flash any room which has same antirollback version (arb4 in your case)
You can flash 9.5.19 stable Oreo ROM to 10.3.1 android pie fastboot ROM without any problem..

4 days now and still no more wifi dc, should have did that way sooner. will try aosip pie next.

Flashing ROM bricks phone?!

I'm currently running my OP3 on Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 (MM 6.01), the phone has the latest version of TWRP and I've flashed other ROMs in the past without any issue
RR has proven to be quite unstable for me, the system UI keeps crashing, which renders the phone unusable until after a reboot so I wanted to flash Freedom OS as that worked quite well for me previously. When I tried to flash the ROM in TWRP the ROM seemed to flash successfully but when I rebooted, only the boot logo showed and then the screen went black and the phone refused to respond at all for about two hours, after that exactly the same thing happened. I managed to boot into recovery and tried flashing a different ROM but the result was the same every time, the only way to get the phone to work normally was to flash RR again/restore from a Nandroid backup, either way, the result is the same, I'm stuck on an unstable ROM and I don't know why, the last time I flashed these ROMs they worked fine, I followed all of the instructions for flashing said ROMs to the letter, I have the latest version of TWRP, etc, does anyone know what the problem could be?
Have you flashed the latest firmware? If not, I think this is why due to you being on a very old version (6.0.1) and as you are not flashing official OxygenOS you are not getting the newest firmware.
Download and flash the latest firmware here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/radio-modem-collection-flashable-zips-t3468628
Pick the right one for the ROM you are flashing (For Freedom OS installing firmware Open Beta 14 - Firmware + Modem under 7.1.1 should be good.)
Note: After you have flashed the firmware the next time you reboot the phone it will appear to not turn on for a few seconds, this is normal while it updates, don't worry
Let me know if you have any questions

Fastboot method (mi flash) seems not working... ARB is the issue?

I just wanted to switch to 8.9.20 global beta MIUI 10 from Xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 stable. Because I've noticed that the last one does have a problem with battery as the CPU is working "anomaly" with frequencies more high than normal.
Though I did unlock bootloader and I flashed TWRP I don't want to use it on" going back to official" because I've seen that preferred way is with mi flash, isn't it?
Well after following all steps on flashing the stock ROM through mi flash (last version) I'm facing the problem with ARB with the signal of error "antrbpass error".
I don't know what to do, I thought using TWRP to wipe data and system to remove current ROM and then use mi flash, but I'm afraid to brick the phone...

Use twrp. or try masik or revolution.
I would install possibly the stock ROM...

Do I need to downgrade pie firmwre if I were to use oreo android ?

My whyred RN5pro come with global rom miui 10 with android pie I think ?
I unlocked the bootloader and flash PE pie latest version, it required pie firmware, and I flash latest pie firmware from https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/whyred/
After usage for half year, I decided to use oreo rom, there's a few reason.
1. I thought always keep update will make it more stable and safe. But I was wrong, the more I update the PE rom, the more unstable it was. After usage a few days, it will freeze and need reboots, sometimes it slow on animation.
2. I need call recorder, but android pie restrict this function.
3. The latest build now come with wifi drop or something, sometimes my internet access is unavailable while my wifi was working fine.
After that I think a lot whether to use pie or oreo, and which custom rom suits my need ?
After reading and searching, and thinking a lot in these 3 days, I come up with a solution.
1. Because the pie keep get updating, it always got bug and some glitches stuff, and I don't have a lot of time and don't like to keep flashing new custom rom, I decided to use Oreo Custom rom final version instead.
2. After a lot of research I come upon RR, PE, havoc OS, liquid remix, lineageos, and decided on lineageos 15.1 final version as my custom rom.
3. Because I don't need a lot customisation, I think lineage os is the best for me, as I only need privacy guard, network traffic indicator, and stability.
So I changed to lineageos 15.1, here is what I do
1. wipe dalvick cache, data , internal storage
2. flash oreo latest firmware V10.3.1.0.OEIMIXM from xiaomi updater site
3. flash lineage-15.1-20180709-UNOFFICIAL-whyred.zip
4. flash magisk 19.3
5. flash opengapps pico
6. flash lazyflasher no verify opt ( ended up failed / error ) Because I read some user getting bootloop caused by encrypted phone or something, I don't know about this part, so I just flash lazyflasher as the instructions said for uncencrypted phone ( ended up failed / error ) ( I don't know if my phone encrypted or not, so I just flash it as additional file)
7. reboot, after getting in, it shows android encrypting, and reboot again, after a few minutes, I thought it stuck on boot loop, but finally it gets into the welcome screen. I tried reboot a few times to see if it stuck or not, but it was working fine. Tested the rom 24 hours by now, and everything seems to work fine.
What I want to ask is,
1. Does my step on changing from pie custom rom to oreo custom rom correct ?
2. lineage-15.1-20180709-UNOFFICIAL-whyred.zip Is this the final version of oreo lineageos 15.1 whyred custom rom ?
3. Sometimes I saw my sim network bar gone completely, but I can make call and check balance, and in the sim status, it show -100dbm and 99 asu. Is this normal ? Or is it because I flash wrong firmware or something ? Or is it caused by my area unstable tower network so the bar completely gone ?
4. Should I use pie or oreo firmware in this custom rom lineageos 15.1 android 8.1 ? Or it's irrelevant because the firmware is flashed by the lineageos custom rom ?
5. Do I need custom kernel ? And what's the best custom kernel for android oreo ?
Other than that, I am satisfied with everything it offers. Thanks for reading and replying.
1. Yes. I've never flashed lazyflasher though.
2. Yes.
3. If you can call, it's probably just very weak signal and the indicator goes off. Otherwise it's a bug in LOS, I doubt the firmware has anything to do with it (I'm on Oreo too).
4. Oreo.
5. No, but it wont hurt you if you try a couple - just make sure they work in Oreo firmware. I'm on KangarooX R4.4 and getting over 10 hours of SOT.

Question [HELP] POCO F3 EU OTA updates / even manually Updates don't work

Hey all
I recived the miui 12.5 enchanced [ALIOTHEEAGlobal_V12.5.3.0.RKHEUXM] (2.9 GB & 466 MB) Update a few days ago via ota. My rom is stock - no root or custom Recovery. The download and installing process work fine, but then the Phone need to restart. While restarting the Phone stuck at poco Logo. Only with a few reboots (or leave it alone for a long time) the Phone comes alive again. Then there is the Info miui update failed after reboot. I also tried to Update manually the Full and increment Rom over the three dots menue. No Chance. Even if i install my current rom version [ALIOTHEEAGlobal_V12.5.3.0.RKHEUXM] again - the same problem
I searched the whole Internet and couldn't find someone with the same problem.
Please help.. Thank yo all!
FYI: I cannot do a full reset / wipe with data loss, because i have so much banking apps and accounts. I need a full day of restoring my current status and i don't have the time at the moment.
No one?
Hmm... I don't know if it possible with locked BL but try boot from B partitions? Are they for cases like this one, aren't they?
I dont know this option. How will this work?
I backed up my phone as good as possible und tried to flash with "XiaoMitTool V2" my currend rom and the 12.5.6.0 and it always endet in "miui sideload failed". WTF is here going wrong .. While sideloading it stops at 4.99% on phone screen.
Have you tried with 12.5.6 via stock recovery? (full rom ofc, not OTA). It doesn't erase your data.
I also tried ToolV2 with my F3 and no luck too.
isnt 12.5.6 eea enchanced? 12.5.3 is older update in eu
I tried to update through stock recovery and MIAssistant but no success. Like @crysus said, it stops to 4,99 on phone screen, no error but it boots to the old ROM. Maybe because is a stable beta version.
Mine updade went all good without hassles. I updated it via stock recovery but first I use 3 dots menu in system updater app just to show where update file is. (full recovery fw used, not just OTA).
The fastboot version of 12.5.6_EEA has been available for a few days now, it can be Flash with miflash.

Question Poco F3 Signal issue both MIUI and custom roms

Hello everybody.
I have an issue with the Poco F3 regarding signal and networking.
After the last update to MIUI 12.5 and later MIUI 13, my phone was having issues making and receiving calls and also using mobile data.
Before those updates, I had no issues whatsoever.
I unlocked my bootloader and decided to try a custom rom, thinking it will solve this issue but nothing has changed.
I have "no service" in areas were many other phones (xiaomi and cheap ones at that etc) have at least 4g. Other times, while I do have service, I can't make or receive calls and even if I can, it's dropping after the first minute or so. Trying to use mobile data is a mess too, working rarely and most of the times I get that exclamation mark and cannot access the internet. It's starting to cause issues at work.
Note, that I use the phone with dual sims from different carriers and the issue is the same. I tried using only a single SIM thinking it might have something to do with dual sims but nothing.
I tried everything, from factory reset, to reseting network settings, airplane mode for 30seconds, custom roms, custom apns etc etc.
The sims work as they should on a poco m3 that I also own, but on the F3 the issue remains.
Now, the issue is much work with android 12, both with MIUI and custom rom (using PixelOS at the moment).
Do you think it is a hardware issue? Should I try an android 11 custom rom and see if the issue is fixed? Is there anything else I should try?
It's driving me crazy and since it's causing work related issues I am thinking of just getting a new phone at this point.
Thanks in advance.

Rollback miui first to any android 11 version, see if the issue remains.
Then if you want you can flash custom roms and such... Your firmware got updated to android 12 when you upgraded miui , installing custom ROM won't downgrade it that's why you want to rollback miui
Thank you for your reply.
I need some time to do this proccess since I am practically 24/7 on call, but I will surely give it a shot when I get the chance.
Just a question though. Is it something common with this phone? A quick google search shows it happens with android 12 on the oneplus phones, but I got nothing for the poco f3.
Some time ago, with a similar issue, all I had to do was flash a kernel and it got fixed. Do you think there is a chance it is kernel related?

No idea... I don't think kernel houses firmware components tho , they live in their own separate partition
You can use DSU Sideloader. This allows you to boot into Android 11 and check Cell-connectivity & Wi-Fi, without touching your Main OS.
Basically, you download the Android 11 GSI, extract the "system.img", set up the app (either through Root or ADB), select "system.img" and Install.
That app utilizes Android's DSU feature, but lets you install any GSI you feed it.
Android has a built-in 'DSU Loader' in Developer Options, but it only lets you install the Android 12 and Android 13 Beta GSI, not older ones like Android 11. ^^
Note: GSI's don't work on Xiaomi.eu Custom ROM. May also not work on other Custom ROMs. ^^

That's a cool feature and thank you so much for the reply.
However, when trying it, I get stuck on the Poco logo and then straight to recovery. So I guess it doesn't work on the rom I am using.
Rebooting back to system from TWRP works as it should, so there are no further issues.
Tried the two official images from google, and the result is exactly the same.

Hm, I don't know.
You just need an unlocked bootloader (in most cases apparently).
When it didn't work for me, it was solely because of the Custom ROM Xiaomi.eu. Doesn't work at all there.
You're on Stock MIUI, I think, and it should work there normally. For me it does.

That's all true I guess.
But as I stated, I am on the PixelOS custom rom at the moment.
Just to see if the issue was MIUI specific, turning out it isn't.
I will return to MIUI 12.5 when I get the chance regardless.

No, not at all unfortunately. Tried everything, even downgrading and switching around custom roms.
I figure it's a hardware issue and have since swapped my sim to my older Mi 9 Lite and use that device only for calls and data hotspot.
If, however, you have some solution to propose I will gladly give it a shot!
Hi, I also got myself the Poco F3 in June 2022.
Some days ago (~end of September) it started having little to no signal in places that I usually had good signal coverage.
I use 2 SIMs. I tried any combination of SIM as well as single SIMs.
Signal is bad and even if the indicator shows signal with severals bars, calls are not going out nor can I receive calls.
MIUI is
I thought of resetting the phone but after reading this thread I prefer to return the phone as long as it is still stock rather than wasting my time.
There are several posts about this issue on Amazon as well.
Same thing happening to me. This is a good smartphone but sadly, it wasn't just me that is having the same issue.
Same here. Simcard works fine in my Mi 8 and iPhone 7. Went back from LineageOS to MIUI, but MIUI tells me the Simcard "can't be activated" and doesnt get signal at all. With my Mi 8 i have 4G coverage.
I do have the exact same problem.
Tried different roms A11+A12, MIUI+Custom, even opened it up to check if the antenna cable was loose.
Has anybody fixed that problem?
did you manage to fix it? I had the same problem in pixelOs and now I want to install pixel experience but it worries me

its working perfectly since that, at least in xiaomi.eu. I didnt try any other rom.
