Face Unlock - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

Is there any way to activate face unlock?
I'm surprised that other even cheaper smartphones have this option in Smart Lock.

Yessir. There is a Magisk module that adds the libs and apk from OpenGapps. Isn't as fast as the iPhone or my old Note9 but it works!

BankOfAmerica Fingerprint Support?

Before I got my N5x, I remember seeing some articles back in September about Bank of America's iOS and Android apps now supporting fingerprint IDs for logging in, and I even saw a popup on the app on my N5 about this. So now that I have my 5x, this option is not present. From what they were saying about using the built-in fingerprint support, if it isn't supported on the 5x, what device is it supported on? There are even instructions on their web site that talk about setting up fingerprints using the standard Android 6.0 settings that we have on the 5x and 6P.
Is anyone using this app? Any luck with it recognizing the fingerprint support? The only thing I can think of is that there was some sort of security concern and they backed off from offering this feature.
same here
don't see any option for imprint authentication. I did submit a feedback on the app regarding this tho.

Just found this on the Google Play listing for the app:
• Note: Fingerprint sign-in is currently only supported for select Samsung devices. We’ll be adding support for more devices in future releases.
Compared to the 5x, the fingerprint sensor on my Samsung tablet is terrible!
hah! so much for these companies to advertise on a feature and never deliver.

I installed Robinhood (the commission-free brokerage app) and it utilizes the fingerprint scanner. It works awesomely.
Yeah the Bank of America app used the fingerprint reader on my s6, but not the 5x. Looks like they should bring support for us, eventually.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
its the problem with not having standardized API for all scanners.. I mean at the end of the day all app developers need to make sure is you are the owner of your phone. And eventually pretty much all scanner API gives out a true/false. So they need to unite and create universal standard to make developer's life easier.

Moto Face unlock app for Moto G4 plus

Motorola released face unlock app on the Google Play Store which is only available for 2018 phones. Can you please provide the apk for other motorola devices
it won't work, since it requires 8.0 and certain hardware found in these new 2018 devices
Moto Face Unlock App for E Series
Is Moto face Unlock App compatible with Moto E series devices?
I found an alternative you may be interested in.
Go to Settings -> Security -> Smart Lock -> Trusted face.
Should work the same way?

It's present there from Android KitKat (4.4.4.) if you didn't observe. Its true that it does the same job of unlocking the device but the new face unlocking API implemented in Android 8.0 is much faster, better and more reliable than smart lock.
It checks for persons eyes after confirming the correct face
match to avoid the possibility of others misusing it while you are sleeping

If you are on a custom ROM with Android 8.0 or above there are ways to unable it but if you are on stock (7.0) then you can't use that even with the 'Motorola Face Unlock APK'.
If you are trying the smartlock @masivb mentioned then use Autoinput plugin along with it so it unlocks with just one click

Pixel 3xl vs Huawei P20 Pro

I have recently switched from a P20 Pro to a Pixel 3XL. Have previously owned loads of Nexus' and missed the ease of rooting/flashing/unlocking, and there are some other really irritating things on the P20.
Generally I much prefer the Pixel, but there are a few features that I miss from the P20 (the camera is WAY better on the P20, but it has three of them so that's expected!):
- Network speed indicator - I know there's the Tulsadiver mods, but is there a better way of doing it? Also, does this break Google Pay/banking apps etc?
- Face unlock - I'm pretty sure I used to have this on really old tablets, surprised it's not a std feature. Is there a secure way of doing this?
- Lift to wake - I have enabled "Lift to check phone", but this doesn't seem to do anything?
Also, I remember from my old Nexus 6p there was an issue with charging cables. Is there anything to watch out for with Type c to type c, or will any std one do fast charging?

1. No, Tuldadiver mods or any other mods doesn't break Google Pay
2. You can use Face Unlock using Smart Lock feature under Security
3. Life to Wake brings ambient display on when you lift the phone.. if you already have Always on Display enabled, this doesn't do anything..

No face unlock on P3XL AFAIK

why did you decide to root your MI A2 Lite?

Hey, I know it's a noob question, especially to ask on XDA but so let's make this more of a personal thing... What were the reasons you chose to root for?
(I'm trying to decide whether or not I should do it so hearing other people's reasons can be interesting)
Thanks
I installed pie because I already unlocked boot loader and downgrade was possible. I like pie though.
I root for titanium backup.
Magisk/Xposed also, though I could live without them.
Viper4Android... Almost impossible to live without it
On Pie, there's basically no reason for me to root, because Pie itself isn't stable enough. On Oreo I change my font, use LKT module to increase battery life and performance at the same time, youtube vanced is a must (you can have it without root too), also for enabling Cam2API to utilize Gcams available on the internet.
I rooted so i could get pixel rounded UI, google connectivity service, ambient display always on option with live wallpaper animation, call screening, wifi calling, pixel launcher, and google intelligence with the blue flashing overlay on search and execute( at least, i think it wasnt there before i installed intelligence). Oh,,,and camera. Also...fstrim

New 7T owner, coming from Samsung, any tips?

I just ordered a OP 7T (T-Mobile version), and while I'm not new to OnePlus (my wife has a 6T), it's *my* first OP device. I come from using Samsung devices for a few years (S6 Plus, 7, now a 9). I've read much about the 7T, read and viewed many reviews, but I'd like to know what tips from daily users I should have in mind.
Thanks!
Welcome to the smoothness. Make sure you enable 90hz from settings as soon as you get the phone in hand if it's not turned on. It doesn't affect the battery that much. So no need to worry about that.
And if you are familiar with bootloader unlocking and rooting and wanna try that i should say wait for the TWRP recovery to come. Then this 7t section would be flooded with popular custom roms; hopefully.

So far so good! Still setting up and adjusting everything to my liking. The speedy response from this phone is awesome.
This phone is awful. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I sure hope so. My wife's 6T has been a great phone so far, and I expect the 7T to serve well.
May I ask which issues did you encounter? And were you able to solve them?
I came from a Galaxy S9 to the 7t in November. I need dual SIM capability so I do not have to carry two devices. I use a TMO SIM and an AT&T SIM and need band 71 support. Generally, Android devices sold in the US do not support dual SIMs, and dual SIM devices which can be purchased internationally do not support many US bands.
The device was easy to set up, works very well, and I have not had any of the issues others have reported. VOLTE & Wi-Fi calling work well on TMO but not AT&T, but that's an AT&T issue and not the problem of One Plus. I currently run the Open Beta 2 build. I bought the North American version from One Plus directly which supports all current US TMO & ATT bands. Both providers work well in this phone and I am very happy with the device overall.
I wear a Galaxy watch, and integration works just as well as it did with my Galaxy phone.

Thanks for your feedback! I also found the 7T easy to set up, as I did with my wife's 6T. I manually configured Nova Launcher to avoid cross-brand backup/restore issues, and so far no issues there also. I did notice some widgets are no longer available, but I found alternatives. All apps are working as intended.
You mentioned you are running the Open Beta Build 2. Does OnePlus allow to easily fall back to the current release build if needed or wanted? I use the T-Mobile version of the 7T if it matters. Also, how is the Beta working? I have never used beta OS versions on my previous devices (never could register in a timely way with the S9), and am curious how OP hangles this.

The Open Beta 2 works well for me. I like it. Good thing, because if I were to go back to stable I would need to wipe my phone, which is not something that is very easy to do. The 7t is a good phone. I'm not sure what the one poster's issue is, but it's likely a one off or an operator's issue.
Open Beta 3 is more stable than Stable 10.0.9, based on my experience and usage.
I did a few things when I got my 7T:
1. Unlock Bootloader, install Magisk to get root.
2. Install Nacho Notch, which makes the status bar all black, all the time and it's really nice to see the icons up there but nothing else.
3. Install my 3rd party gesture app, Vivid N.G. This allows me to use bottom gestures with massive customization. And no stupid "swipe from side" back gesture. Who thought that would be a good idea?
4. Replace launcher with Nova.
5. Install Swift Backup and restore all my apps from old phone.
6. Install and configure AdAway to block ads on a system-level.
7. Install Substratum and theme Oxygen with Liv Dark theme.
8. Replace OnePlus dialer with Google dialer (using Magisk module).
9. Install GCam and Magisk module for enabling auxiliary cameras. This provides much better photos over the stock OnePlus camera app!
I'm planning to switch to OmniROM soon since I just can't stand OxygenOS. Not that it's a bad OS by any means, just that I prefer AOSP.

You just brought me back in time to when I had my Galaxy S4, that's when I heavily got into rooting, modding, tinkering with kernels, alternative OS builds, etc.
Of all your mods/steps, at least I installed Nova Launcher, been using it for many years now.

I gave not gotten this working on T-Mobile yet. With any dialer, including stock.
I'm not even sure if Visual Voicemail works with the T-Mobile variant either. I think they just want you to use their ****ty app for VVM.
