How to De-brand / Flash stock rom using NewFlasher - Sony Xperia 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys
Some may have noticed I posted a question about Debranding with Flashtool...
Contrary to all the web Tutorials, yes... it can be done with NewFlasher
Activate USB Debugging.. and plug n USB cable... this installs the ADB Bridge driver
Follow this tutorial to the letter...
https://www.xperiablog.net/2018/01/...-firmware-for-xperia-xz-premium-xz1-and-more/
You need Newflasher v13 and xperiFirm 5.4.0
Remember to install the GordonsGate Drivers
After successful flash, run through setup, then do a software device Repair using XperiaCompanion, then again.. after a quick setup.. goto Settings> System.. and do a Full Reset
And your all set to go...
Any questions, look at the XZPremium XDA forum.. its all on there
Hope this helps someone

Hi. May i know what will happen if i flash a different variant. Say for ex. Ill flash i4113 firmware to my i4193. Could it brick the device?

Very useful tutorial, thanks!

You'll probably want to include more information so that others will know how to help you. Such as what all you've tried, what your phones is doing, what software version it had, etc.

Try flashing a fresh firmware. You may not be able to boot, but flash mode should still work.
If you need firmware files use the link in my signature.

You'll need FlashTool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
And the original firmware (.ftf file): http://www.xperiagamer.com/Stock-Roms/234-stock-firmware-for-flashtool.html
1.) Install the FlashTool and software, it will come with drivers for your phone.
2.) Power your phone off.
3.) Hold down the BACK button and plug the USB cable in from computer to phone.
4.) You should see a green LED, meaning you're in Flash Mode.
5.)From there can choose to flash the firmware of your choice (.ftf file).
The FlashTool software is fairly simple to use. The interface is very easy to understand, you shouldn't have any problem.

[GUIDE FOR NOOBS] How to update Xperia S to Android 4.0 ICS: STEP by STEP

I have seen this question posted a dozen times today across several threads, thus, I decided to write a step-by-step, fool proof, noob-oriented simple guide; if somebody asks again please point him/her to this thread to avoid spamming the main discussion / development threads
STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
How to update the Sony Xperia S
to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
NOTICE 1: This guide is for WINDOWS PC USERS, if you have a Mac I can't help you, but the process is very similar
NOTICE 2: It doesn't matter if your phone is rooted or not, bootloader unlocked or not, IT DOESN'T MATTER, this update has nothing to do with SIM unlock, bootloader lock / unlock, root, etc
NOTICE 3: This guide will update your Xperia S from ANY previous version to OFFICIAL SONY ICS ANDROID 4.0.4 and believe me: it is worth the update; HAT TIP TO SONY !!
NOTICE 4: The internal SD card contents will NOT be deleted but everything else inside your phone will be reseted to factory defaults because this is a major update, so do a backup if you want to keep call logs, SMS etc. I only backup my SMS and Whatsapp messages, google backed up everything else because I had the backup option activated in settings
NOTICE 5: Before asking, please read the questions and answers in the thread for many Frequently Asked Questions

STEP 1:
Download the Flashtool
You will find the installers here: http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Go to the "installation" tab, download Flashtool installer v0.9.10.1 and run it
You will have a new folder on your PC: c:\Flashtool
STEP 2:
Download the ICS firmware update
You will find several download options here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723610, just pick one and download it, then come back here
SOME NOTICES (I know you are gonna ask):
- I know it is "Generic Switzerland" (CH) but nevermind: it is plain Sony Generic and works fine for any region and has ALL the languages and keyboards
-The firmware is already prepared to be flashed via Flashtool in .FTF format. If the file you downloaded is .RAR then it is compressed ("zipped") and you need to EXTRACT the .FTF with WinRAR (if you don't have WinRAR download it from here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)
STEP 3:
Let's update the phone!
- Copy the firmware FTF file to c:\Flashtool\Firmwares
- Go to c:\Flashtool\Drivers and run "Flashtool-drivers.exe" to install the proper drivers for Xperia S
- After installing the USB drivers reboot your PC
- Go to c:\Flashtool and run "FlashTool" (if you have Windows 64 bits, run "FlashTool64")
- Click the flash button (yes: the thunder icon up left)
- Select "Flahsmode" and click "OK"
- Select the "LT26 6.1.A.0.452" firmware and click "OK", DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE
- Flashtool will prepare the files for flashing, just be patient
- A Window will pop up asking you to connect the phone in "Flashmode" showing instructions for an old Xperia phone: ignore it, here is how the Xperia S enters "Flashmode":
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN key
- Keep it pressed, connect the USB cable to your PC
- Release the Volume Down key when phone's GREEN LED lights up
- Flashtool will start flashing automatically, let it finish to 100%
- Disconnect the USB cable when Flashtool reaches 100% and indicates flashing has finished giving some extra info about activating debugging mode etc (don't care, that's optional)
- Turn on your phone (press and hold the Power button for some seconds)
- The first boot takes some minutes, don't worry let your phone prepare your Ice Cream Sandwich for you
- Have fun !! :highfive:
PS1: PLEASE REMEMBER TO SAY "THANKS" to Bin4ry (for the FTF firmware) and Androxyde (for the Flashtool)
PS2: And the usual disclaimer, of course: Follow the steps and be careful, I am not responsible if you brick your phone, burn your house or blow your PC by following this guide; I am just sharing what I did to update my own phone  and it worked for me

1.- Nothing changes. This will only UPDATE the Android system, this will NOT SIM-unlock, unlock or relock bootloader, or root
2.- Yes: I sid ALL languages
3.- I don´t know (I never use it) but I guess yes you could (why not?)
We should take note of unchecking debugging mode in developments before using flashtool to upgrade if you do not want to meet several issues.

1.- it will have switzerland version software of course, and you will be expecting OTAs from this software version, but I wouldn't recommend it
2.- you can always change your software with flashtool
but if you want to use official ways (OTA or PC Companion) then better keep the original software or reflash the original software
With flashtool you can flash this software today and return to your original software tomorrow (should an OTA appears in your region), you can change as many times as you wish

Some users avoid wiping all user data but face issues afterwards
It ss always recommended to let the update wipe everything
PC Companion and OTA will wipe everything as well because that's the right way to make such a big update
I will add this to the guide tomorrow
PS: I use SMS backup and restore from google play to backup my SMS messages, and I backup my whatsapp messages from inside whatsapp (it has a backup option). Everything else (including settings, calls, apps, etc) is auto-restored by google

2)Will it Void warrenty

[repair][arc/arc s]unbrick and restore to stock

If you messed up your ROM by installing wrong kernel, not wiping data, doing stuff in the wrong order etc, and your ROM doesn't start and you don't know how to fix it...
Follow these instructions to return to:
1. Stock Gingerbread
2. Stock ICS
3. Stock ICS + root
1. Choose appropriate FTF file and download:
ONLY LT15i
.62 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/lpdhtmqi/LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Generic Global World.ftf
.42 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/vmfu4czg
ONLY LT15a
.62 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/f58llc72
ONLY LT18i
.62 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/gsfx4w60
2. Download and install flashtool https://github.com/Androxyde/Flashtool/zipball/master
3. In settings on phone, allow unknown sources, turn on usb debugging. (if you can't start your phone, ignore.)
4. Turn off phone.
5. Connect usb cable to phone, hold back key while plugging the USB to the pc. LED is now GREEN
6. Open flashtool, drag the downloaded FTF file to the flashtool window. Press ok.
7. You may need to reconnect the phone the same way as before.
8. The stock GB is now flashing. Gingerbread 2.3.4 INSTALLED
From here the phone is fixed and you can do whatever you want.
ICS:
9. Connect the phone to the computer and install ics 4.0.3 via pc companion/sony update service.
ROOT:
10. Download rootkit: http://bit.ly/ert_xperia_2011_ics_1
11. Extract files anywhere.
12. Again make sure unknown sources are allowed, turn on usb debugging.
13. Run runme.bat
Phone is now rooted.
I can not guarantee that this will work for you/your device however I am quite confident that if you follow the instructions carefully you will succeed.
Please press THANKS if I helped.

This can be helpful for anyone whose ROM isn't working. It is directed to noobs who accidentally ruins their custom ROM so they can start over. Also the reason why I'm doing this is because I searched the forums and I could not find a guide that was simple for noobs to understand, which would always work no matter what you did wrong. I've used this method so many times and it has saved me countless times. I thought the least I could do was to share.
I hope I answered your questions.

I understand this reply is far too late but for people in the future:
You cannot upgrade to ICS when your bootloader is unlocked. You can easily lock it again using this small FTF file. When the upgrade with PC companion is complete, you can continiue modifying your phone with custom ROMs etc.

It is very hard for me to know what is causing this problem. Some minor modifications to the flashing procedure can potentially fix it. Try doing it like this: Open FlashTool, drag the FTF-file and drop it in the dialog box. Press ok and wait for the instructions to pop up. When they do, connect the USB-cable FIRST to the phone and after that hold back key while plugging it to the computer. If the battery of the phone is too low I think it can cause problems, try to charge your battery (if possible) and try again. Also make sure to flash the appropriate FTF-file, accordning to your model.

Root Help For Xperia Z1 D5503

HERE is the easiest way to root latest firmware.
Hey there, I could use some help with this whole root thing as well...
My Z1C is still on .108, but now all the tutorials seem to be for .157 and include flashing with a .108 stock rom???
So do I have to update my Xperia first, then flash it with an older version, root it and flash it with .157???
Some tutorials seem to be removed since they "don't work with the latest firmware anymore"...
Also how do I backup my phone before I root it?
Thanks.
I hope this helps...

Well let me help you both with this, since I have spent around three days wasting my time figuring out how to root the Z1C which appeared later on that I have downloaded the wrong files because the thread it self was providing the kernels for Z1 and not the Z1C. So this is what I did:
It is ok to update your phone to .157 so go on with it, when done make sure your phone isn't connected and is switched off.
1- Download Flash tool from http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php. After it downloads install it and JUST IN CASE you haven't installed the Z1C drivers go to Your C: drive and click the Flashtool folder then go to Flash tool drivers and you will find the Flashtool drivers installer. Click and install USB drivers and Fastboot drivers, scroll down and select Z1 compact drivers too.
2- Download the two required Z1C kernels and the RootTool as well from http://d-h.st/M9a make sure you Click the DOWNLOAD NOW button not the upper DOWNLOAD button because it is just a useless malware!
then place the two .ftf files in c:/flashtool/firmwares folder. Make sure you place the two '.ftf' files that are in the .zip in the firmware folders you can download them from the attachment too below.
3- Open the flash tool, Click on the flash button (top left) and choose the Flashtool method where you will find the two kernel files you placed in Firmwares folder.
4- Click once on the .108 Kernel and click flash, AFTER THAT press the volume down button on your phone while it is switched off and connect it to USB and wait for the Flash to start and end, it will take several seconds.
5- once it is done disconnect your phone and restart it by simply switching it on.
6- Unzip and place the rootkitXperia_20140719 folder better on your C: Drive. Connect your phone and run the tool by double clicking Install. bat (it might show only install as a name) and keep watching your phone screen to approve. Wait for it to be done and then restart your phone, then switch it off.
7- Follow the same method above to install the .157 Kernel again to your phone and you're done!
PM me if you needed anymore help. Sorry if my guidance is complicated a little bit, just let me know.
All the best!
Thanks for the help. I did however just root my .108 now because I really, really didn't want to unlock my bootloader and flash the kernel.

You don't need to unlock your bootloader to flash kernels or root.157

Really? Damn, must have misunderstood some of the guides. Thanks for the hint.
It's just a load of information at once, and this is my first Smartphone, so I didn't want to go overboard.
Is the .157 update even relevant in any way? And now that my phone is rooted, can't I just flash .157?
I think if you flash .157 you will lose root and will have to reroot by the method I mentioned.
I have D5503 with .157 Will I loose data using this method? If yes, is there a method to root the phone and save all data (including game saves, settings and everythink)?

No, not if you flash 108 kernel, root then flash 157 kernel back with flashtool.
When I run rootkit, it says "Waiting for device". Mobile is connected with PC companion. I have tried to install drivers, tried to change phone connect mode.... Do not know what is a problem. I do not have SD card in my device.
OK passed the "Waiting for device". Now stuck on "daemon started successfully"
So problem solved. The only problem was that the phone has hidden developer options where is USB debbuging. There is a little trick to open developer options so I have enabled USB debugging and than root works.
successfully rooted xperia z1 d5503 4.4.4
@emiratesson thanks i followed the instructions that you gave. At first im having a problem in flashing the 108 because my pc companion is ON im getting errors. I noticed that even though i flash 108 i still have firmware 157 because my current FW is 157 no changes and i tried to root it using rootkitXperia_20140719 still in 157 and a SuperSU app was created in my phone i guess that is the root app.
Current Build: xperia z1 d5503 4.4.4 firmware 157.

lg g4 root issue

hello guys
need yout help, tried searching google for sulotion but came up empty.
ive rooted the lg g4 h815(android 6.0-V20c-SEA) before via iroot pc but after factory reset its returned to be unrooted.
when i try to root again its keep failing because of debugging issue (the software keep telling me its not in debugging altough it is)
i think the problem is when i do usb debugging - connecting to pc the option is checked in the check box but it turns gray.whats the problem is? how can i fix it ?
thank you in advance
If you mean the USB debugging option is checked but gray when your phone is plugged in, that is normal, you cannot change that option when you're plugged in via usb.
I'm not familiar with iroot personally, I could take a look if you need though, but maybe revoke usb debugging authorizations through dev options then accept the pc's key fingerprint once again to "kickstart" iroot.
If you've rooted before through iroot on the same software version you're on now, it should work again without too much effort. Also maybe try switching to MTP (Media Sync) or PTP (Camera sync), or between the both until something happens.
That's all I can think of ATM, I'll probably go check out iroot right now, and think a little more and come back, but I wanted to give you a quick enough response. I wish you the best of luck though!
Edit: Forgot to mention that sometimes SuperSU may get uninstalled from factory reset, if the the G4 Factory Reset protocol deletes the system partition, and then reinstalls it, then this would explain why/if you lost root, I do not know if that's the protocol though. If iroot roots and injects SuperSU as the root manager, try reinstalling it possibly.. unless you are 100% positive you are somehow completely unrooted. (Use a root checker to check if you still got it)
I recommend wiping Data, Cache and Dalvik from TWRP next time, if that's not what you did this time. :good:

No problem at all, I really do hope to fix this for you. Are you on the same software version as you were when you first rooted?/Which version is that?
Another thing I thought of, is your computer. Is it the same one that you used the first time? Do you have full admin access on it? Do you have all the LG drivers on it?
Do you have ADB/Fastboot fully installed on it? Obviously these are the first things you probably think about when you think about root, but I'm just making sure nothing is slipping by, you know?
Depending on what software version you're on, maybe we should try another root method if nothing works.
The last thing I'd say is to backup all your data/internal and flash the firmware you want to root on, but I really don't think we need to go that far.
P.S. I own a VS986 (VZW version of the G4) so I can only go to certain extents to reproduce/"debug" the problem you are having. Keep me updated!

Sorry for forgetting the whole reason you're in this problem is because of a factory reset lol, of course you have your data backed up. And trust me, I understand about the brick, I really messed up my G3 2 years back. Thanks also for the device pictures, could you post a shot of "About Phone=>>Software Info". That would be great!
Funny thing I just did that same phone rotation thing very recently XD
Lol love rotation, here

Well, it seems that the factory reset must also have deleted the system partition, then reinstalled it with the most updated version.. which is not good for the current situation.
Notice Security Patch Level is "2016-01-01" and you're running Android M 6.0, means that the software you're on is very recent, if not the most recent. I did some looking around just now, but I couldn't turn up anything that achieved successful root on "V20c-SEA-XX", which is what you would need.
Technically you could try the stock firmware KDZ for your device, which should be 5.1.1, then flash it with like LGUP, but I seriously don't recommend that unless you find a thread that confirms a working downgrade from V20c-SEA, because if the qfuse does not match between firmware versions, you could easily end up with a hardbrick.
Here is the link to your stock firmware, in case you find that it is safe to downgrade from 20c-SEA to 10b-SEA:
http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G4/H815/
You could try this: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS
I'm not sure it will work, but I can't imagine it'd harm you, since it's LG official.
You could also try to fill the checkbox "OEM Unlock", and then try to unlock the bootloader via fastboot. I am not sure if this could possibly cause harm if it does not work properly, so try this at your own risk.: http://oneplus.wonderhowto.com/how-...all-custom-recovery-root-oneplus-one-0156099/ (It's all the same commands even though it says for OnePlus One device. If you happen to unlock the bootloader using fastboot, do not go on to Step 2 on that page)

I apologize for such a long wait time + post! I wish you good luck again! :good:
P.S. You should include your current software version in your OP (Android 6.0 - V20c-SEA) so people more knowledgeable than I may be able to help you even more.

i think i find the problem- the adb is not working
i followed to unlock bootloader of lg, { https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS }
and when do this step:
"Enter your phone’s unique Device ID. You can view the Device ID by connecting your phone to the PC using a USB cable and entering "adb reboot bootloader" in DOS command window of the folder you created in previous step (for example: C:\tools). Your phone will reboot into the fastboot mode. Enter "fastboot oem device-id" in DOS command window."
it says failed to start daemon - error cannot connect to daemon.....
and i cant trace lg id.
any sugestion?

Alright, so I guess it does have something to do with your adb. First off, check your Firewall, make sure you allow adb through and out your Firewall, also maybe temporarily disable your Antivirus whilst using adb, or allow a connection through it if you can. Try turning off USB Tethering through your G4. Try going to Task Manager and ending the adb process tree, it should then try to restart itself. Don't use a wireless adb connection.. if you were trying that, although I didn't think you were.
In "short" order,
1. I would firstly suggest allowing access through your firewall/antivirus, or really I would disable both for now just in case
2. Then try killing the adb process tree in Task Manager
3. Try the adb commands: "kill-server", "start-server"
4. Install any device driver you would possibly need
5. Reinstall adb and fastboot, maybe just install entire SDK-Tools package if you don't have it already
-- If adb is not recognizing your device, which is why you can't track your id, then you can simply enter "adb devices" and it will list your device whenever your error is fixed.
That's all I can think of ATM, I'll post this now but I'll still be thinking of other options. Let me know what happens. Fingers crossed.
(You are starting the command window in your adb directory right?)

Trust me, I understand your frustration, I'm going to make a guide for you in the next 6 hours or so.
Try a different computer if you can, I haven't had adb fail but many other tools sometimes work
on different computers for me. I've also heard "Dell PC Suite" should be uninstalled as it could cause adb hang ups,
if you have it. @htr5's guide might work for you if you have a software update available, I'm not sure though since it's not specifically for your device.
Regardless, I'm sure you will need to use adb soon, so we have to fix that.
I will try to make that guide asap, I obviously can only do so much, again, since I don't have your device, hopefully it will help though. I highly suggest trying on a fresh/different computer though.
Edit: Try USB 2.0 if you were using a 3.0 port (3.0 ports have the SS along with the usb "logo")
USB 2.0 is on the right:
"H815 SEA Root/General Guide"
@mikmikush
It does seem that you can treat your SEA device very similarly to the EU common version, in ways such as flashing KDZ's and rooting.
I cannot confirm this, but mentions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/safe-root-h815-v10b-sea-variant-t3184152 make it seem like it should be okay.
Aoi_sora9x said:
I'm a SEA variant holder here.
It's fine, you can use the Low Effort Root method. You can also flash the EU open KDZ without any problem.
You lose VoLTE, but to me it doesn't matter so I don't really care.
I'm running the latest 10E ATM, and it's much much better than 10B, so flash away.

Yes, that post is for v10b, but it should also work for v20d/v20c. (Not the Low Effort Root method) - You will be working with EU software v20d.. while you are with SEA v20c,
so it's up to you if you want to try this, but it's the closest I can come right now. Thank @htr5 because I believe he has all of this in his guide, and I'll probably send you to his guide halfway through.
You may lose some features or brick your device by flashing firmware/software made for other devices. Trust your instinct!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Install adb setup from here this includes necessary adb drivers, adb itself, and fastboot.
2. Install LG Mobile Driver
3. Download LGUP tool from here (This is for restoring your device to stock if you softbrick via KDZ)
Follow this thread if/when you need to.
4. Here contains a KDZ for EU v20C, which I'm 99.9% sure will match your current software, even though it says for EU.
5. Here contains every partition including the KDZ for 20d by @autoprime, which will be necessary if you decide to root from @htr5's guide (v20d Root Method)
6. Once again, try to unlock the bootloader officially through LG, if you are successful, you can follow @htr5's 20d Root Guide here
7. Be careful and let me know how it goes
@autoprime Mentions that there is "NO anti-rollback qfuse used in this update" (20d) so if you flash the 20d KDZ and it works, I believe you should then be able to downgrade successfully to an earlier firmware version - without worrying about qfuse - and root using a Lollipop (5.0/5.1) method if you can't get anywhere on Marshmallow (6.0). - This I'm not 100% positive about, again, but it is my thinking.
Please thank anyone I mentioned and anyone who's link I provided, they all deserve it!
