Xperia 10 DRM keys considerations - Sony Xperia 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

I know that quite a few people here already went through the process of unlocking the bootloader and rooting. However I don't see anyone commenting on the downsides like DRM loss, camera and display quality and if there is any way we can backup the DRM before unlocking the bootloader. I'd like to see what you guys think and potentially share some recommendations on the matter.

Is it applicable to this phone ?
As it is lower end.

I think it should be. I doubt Sony would leave any of its devices unprotected.

im unlocked on a GSI/Treble build, AOSP without gapps. i see NO difference in picture quality. just saying...this to the fear in losing "camera quality"
and no, gcam mods will not work, not with gapps, not without!

CM Camera Quality

Hi CM camera quality seems to be very low, especially when taking photos in low light.
Does anyone know of mods to improve quality or re enable BIONZ?
Or maybe a port of stock camera+a drm hack? Anyone tried the stock camera on CM with the new DRM hack?
Last time I asked in a CM forum they said it isn't possible. I don't know if anything changed.
But you are right, camera is not good. It is the only reason why I use a sock based ROM.
If there is a possible solution I would like to hear it.

No, in the OP they write that it doesn't work on custom roms that aren't based on Sony's rom :-\

I'd be very surprised if it worked, afaik Sony apps need the Sony framework, which cm, aokp etc don't have.
I once (months ago) installed the Z2 camera app, and it refused to start without the framework.
Actually its not the stock cam itself the problem.
I compared google camera on stock rom vs. google camera on AOSP/CM Based rom and google cam on stock owns it all. Maybe it has something to do with the libs

Stock LG Camera APP with Custome Rom's

I've read through the forums a bit and have not found an answer to my question so here goes.
I flashed CM12.1 on my D850 a few days ago and love it. Thing is all the different camera apps available that I have tried suck except for Oppo. Still it is no where near equivalent to the stock camera app. Would it be possible to make a driver for the stock camera app that would work with CM12.1 or even other stock roms? If so how would you go about doing that? What would be needed? I have used Xcam for the stock rom and really like that camera app. How hard would that be to port over to CM12.1? The Stock ROM that comes on the G3 is not all that bad but I personally love android when it is in its truest form, but I also like a good camera.
If nothing about can happen are there any custom Stock Roms? Rom's that would allow use of Xcam or stock camera but still allow the level of customization?

With all due respect but this question has been asked around a thousand times, in hundreds of threads.

No, missing LG framework = no stock camera possible on AOSP roms.

Hey thanks for the respones and yes I know the question has been asked I guess I wasn't clear enough in what I was asking. I meant would it be possible to add what is needed to get the camera to work? Like pick apart the parts of the framework that is needed and integrate it into cm12.1. That would allow the addition of a few cool features of the lg stock rom

You do realise it makes no difference right
Having the LG Camera App doesnt mean that 4K recording is magically gonna be enabled

Anyone that what's to going this project is welcome. This project involves finding a way to install the stock camera to asop ROM (like CyanogenMod,blisspop...)
Please help with framework.
alot of developers said it is not possible because it is too much complicated framework and also LG wont release all of their source code so its basically impossible right now

Even if you can, that would not be stock camera... That would be another port like Moto camera, snapdragon camera, lenovo super cam and none of these are even close to stock quality... So what's the point if it's not stock it doesn't matter...

alot of people dont get it
the orinal rom is using bin files that are close source and only working for that rom ,
so to port it , you need to port all of it , not just the app( only app is easy) but getting the whole framework to run a hell.
you can port the app , but will have no effect noone will -> because it has no effect
porting all files , is hard its closed sourced
and building a stock app for cam is the same as downloading any other app from market (you don't have the source for all de features you get with the normal rom)
and witch cam work best depends on the user , but i guess that a lot will say stock is better
eh
I wouldn't worry about it, you don't miss out on all that much anyways. Just a few features are not usable through generic camera apps. I personally use the Google Camera app and love how it works with my G3 on AOSP (BlissPop 3.4); though, I do notice a slower focus time due to no laser focusing.

This thread hurts my head.
This phone has been out for a year and a half, there's been millions and millions of man hours gone in to developing, tweaking and messing with the workings of this phone, yet there is still no camera that matches the quality of the stock camera on AOSP. Just accept that it isn't possible and likely will never be possible like it was mentioned earlier.

Sony Music App(Unlocked)

Sony Music App version 9.3.11 (with Walkman Logo)
That you can install like any other Normal app for any device running Android 4.2 and above. Root or No Root.
I have just made only one change that is removing the restrictions for compatible devices and unlocked it for all devices, there might be some bug for certain features that might not be supported on every device, but it works. I will update more apps that we all can use, even for unrooted devices. just don't ask for ETA's I am not that much in development actively.
Enjoy.
Download here
Although there is another thread for this app here which I saw just after creating this post and a better one than mine. So I will port and post some other apps that works on our devices.
You can also try these apps that I posted on other thread here. works on unrooted devices as well.

No, for un-rooted device apart from sony.
for rooted users, that is possible for any device, but can't guarantee, until I or someone else tests it on Mi A1.

Without Root, not available for anyone apart from Sony. Need build.prop edits as well as other things on the system partition for it to work for the port.

None taken and as much as I love to have all the options open for an android device, I have to keep this device unrooted.(I have 6 other devices in my home and all of them are rooted except this one), so for now, it's my 1 percent to the A1 community.
Good

Double tap?
Gcam needs RAW support by the camera driver.
My SODP based ROMs support it.
(And GCAM needs GAPPS)
be aware that the camera is work in progress there, if you rely on it, I would wait with unlocking the phone until it's okay.
Sry I mean double tap to wake.
Sad that GCAM don't work. I'll wait a bit before I unlock because it's a company phone and I don't want to say to my boss "sry I've bricked my new phone"

If I remember correctly only the XZ3 has it, because the battery drain is too high on a non OLED display. (Black color takes non power on OLED screens, while other colors taking more power than a LCD screen)
But maybe somewhere is a mod, which requires root (unlocking mandatory again hihi)
You're allowed to unlock a company phone and maybe kill the warranty? [emoji14]

Very cool!
Make sure you updated to the newest PIE firmware before unlocking
Sony tends to remove the DRM more with each new OS version.
Maybe you want to wait for the Q update, before you unlock.
