Can't get 820qm (us unlocked) working on T-Mobile - LG G8 Questions & Answers

I cannot get a good signal on the T Mobile network with a US unlocked (820QM) version of the G8. I keep fluctuating between 2 bars and 4 bars on the G8 while an older V20 stays on full strength in the same area. Not sure if it is having issues with bands or a T Mobile issue. T Mobile told me to master resest (done) and try a new SIM card (going to get one). So far no luck with a master reset. Looking for any thoughts or advice.
Thanks!

T-Mobile US Data Mobile Network Question

So I have a unlocked att xperia plat on T-Mobile. In my areabthebrefarkijg is complete and. I get hspa but only when I am about halfback mile down the street. I live at the base of some good size moutains and have been told that is why I am on edge data until I get further away from the mountains. I also have a tmobile signal booster that was provided by tmo. That being said in my house I have no dropped Calla but again unless I am on wifi at my house I am on edge.
My sister came by. She just got the tmo nexus 4 which with Tue current version of firmware doesn't support tmo lte in this area, yes I know I can downgrade the firmware for my sister hut she doesn't want to mess with it.
I was helping her set up her phone tonight and noticed she had 3 bars of hspa. Whereas o get no bars of hspa only 2-3 bars edge. I have the same apn settings as hers. Any ideas why her phone would get it and mine doesn't? Again immune areas tmo has converted to hspa att compatible signal. I am running the latest ftf with the .79 basrband
Could it just be hers is an official tmo phone and mine isn't? I checked all the apn settings, I checked to see in mobile networks if there was a 3G for tmo signal and all I got was 2G. Whereas my sisters phone was 3G on tmo. Not a big deal as I have excellent speed on my home network. Just curious. Thoughts anyone?

Also forgot to ask. I know there are the 3G speed/network scripts floating around here. Has anyone used it and if so are they worth it? Do they work at increasing 3G data signal, etc.?

Just a heads up. I am on an r800at.

ATT note 2 as go phone

I have a att note 2 with a go phone sim card in it. I get hsdpa+ but can not get lte. When the sim card was bought it was used in a vzw note 2 would that effect it cause the vzw note 2 imei number was used to activate the sim. All the ready I have done someone said somewhere that the sim is probably not provisioned for lte. Well the point im getting at is I need help in trying to get lte and I know where im at there is lte cause my Co workers are currently on lte.

H+ is LTE. Check the phone status >> mobile network type and you will see you are connected to fastest available network.

If you are on a go-phone plan I would be very careful using mobile data. My wife doesn't use her phone much so she has a go-phone plan. I experimented with it some and a couple of apps got updated via mobile and it ate her $$ up in a hurry -- something to the tune of $17 in just a couple of minutes.
Then again there are a couple of different go-phone plans so this might not be the case for yours.

Sorry but h+ is not lte. And according to documents on att.com and other varies websites you can connect to lte with this phone on go phone plans
It is LTE if the rom doesn't have an LTE icon.
And how do you know you are in an LTE area? I'm in a large California city, and I almost never see the LTE icon.
HSPA+ is considered "4G" by ATT, but it is not 4G LTE.
AT&T 4g icon... yaya
At&t stock roms will show 4g icon in the status bar for both HSPA+ and LTE. This is where the confusion starts yay AT&T.
To check to see if you are on LTE I would go to settings / about phone / Status and check the mobile network type. I think this will give you a better indication of the network you are on.
An information app similar to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gdip.android.network may also help.
If you are still not getting LTE with your at&t go phone I would start by checking your apn settings.
I have used a few of at&t mvno's I have had straight talk, at&t-go, and currently prefer(and use) AIO wireless (now re-branded to Cricket). All of at&t mvno's don't even require you to unlock your carrier you can use any at&t phone on their networks.
I hope this clears things up a bit.
I've checked apn settings they are what it should be and in the settings menu it reads hspa+. And where I live and work both have lte. Gettysburg pa is where I live and I work in baltimore,md and people I know all have lte. I called customer service and they could see I was in a lte area and only receiving hspa+. They have a trouble ticket in. I know the icon in the notification bar always shows 4g thats why Ilike to always go off setting/about. Thank you for your help

you need a new sim, you can get LTE with at&t prepaid but if you have an older sim,it wont work. i had a note 1 on postpaid and was only getting h+ until i went to the at&t store and got a newer sim.
some people will try to say there is no lte on at&t prepaid, there is.

I agree with getting a new sim. Go to a corporate/retail store not a dealer/franchise store, as the corporate will give you a new reprovisioned sim and the dealer will say it won't matter, or charge you.
I just saw the LTE icon for the first time, but I am far away from my home now.

LG G4 VS986 on T-Mobile LTE problem

Issue:
Phone will not stay locked on LTE in Global or LTE/UMTS/GSM mode. When in Global or LTE/UMTS/GSM mode and LTE does connect, it's momentarily and when trying to run a speed test or open a webpage, it quickly disconnects and connects to HSDPA. If switched to LTE/CDMA signal locks in great and data speeds are great however voice services are not available. Any thoughts or advice is welcomed. Thanks ahead of time!
Facts:
Phone: VS986
Android Version: 5.1
Build: LMY47D
Soft Version: VS98611A
APN: T-Mobile Fast apn (fast.t-mobile.com)
Strong LTE area
*#*#4636#*#* Not available on LG G4
Radio Swither Not available on LG G4
Rooted
Xposed installed
Gravity Box installed (no change when using smart radio features)
G3 Tweakbox installed but module will not register with Xposed Framework (I know it was along shot)
What band LTE are you connecting to? I found that here on band 2, I will connect at first, but then it switches back to edge. Seems fine in a band 4 LTE area though.

I'm in the Raleigh NC area. According to LTE Discovery i'm using Band 4. and I also experience the same. A brief connection while in global or LTE/UMTS/GSM mode then it falls back to HSPA.

I haven't found LTE Discovery to report the band correctly, at least in my case. It would say I'm on band 4 on my Moto X, but when using a band 4 only device I would only get Edge, but when I go in a confirmed band 4 area it works fine. From what I've found, most 2G > LTE sites were converted to band 2 LTE. Although since you get HSPA the chances of it actually being on band 4 are higher.
I'm fairly certain this is a Band 4 area. The latest T-Mobile maps are pretty good about pointing out Band 2 areas. I've since sold the phone and acquired a iPhone 6 Plus which I'm looking to sell to replace it with an international G4 or T-Mobile G4. I was pretty impressed with that phone. If I had to rank my favorites, it's number 2. Nexus 5 is still king of the hill for me. There wasn't a better phone out when it was release for a better price.
did you ever figure this out? samething is happening to me
Unfortunately I didn't. I sold it and bought one for T-Mobile...... Which I just sold about 3 hours ago.
So I tested it out again, and in a band 2 area when I boot up my phone with a T-Mobile SIM, I get LTE for several seconds then it cuts back over to 2G.
Now that there is a new software update for the G4, I wonder if this is anymore reliable. Anyone who took the OTA update in the past few days, can you let us know if it's any better?

Been there, done that...wanted to switch over to T-Mobile, but unfortunately, the VS986 only works with two of their three LTE bands, as you know, and it seems everywhere I went, they were using the one the phone doesn't receive (I'm in southern California, for what it's worth, but tested it on a freeway run up the I-5 to the central part of the state - only got 4G-LTE in a few places). Wound up going back to Verizon
I'm getting the exact same results in Burlington, VT (T-Mobile band 2 market). I first have to manually select T-Mobile (defaults to roaming on AT&T HSPA+) then LTE works for less than a minute (LTE Discovery says band 4) and then I lose signal when I get signal again, I only have edge. It does this constantly and is really annoying.
Aww, bummer. I was thinking about switching to T-Mobile, but looks like that is not a viable option? So no one has been able to successfully use the phone on T-Mobile, even after enabling bands 2 and 4 only?
This whole plethora of LTE bands, where each provider does its own crap is such a mess, is just serves to lock in customers, since switching phones is expensive. Government should mandate that all phones can work on all US LTE bands, the technology exists.
I am on the same boat. Everything works on my VS986 on t-mobile network. but I cannot get the LTE to work properly. LTE discovery shows band 4 (not sure if correct though)

My VRZ LG G4 shows that it has Band 2, 4, 5, and 13. I tried enabling 2 & 4 only, 4 only, 2 only, 2&4&13 only but with no success.
What is interesting is I am coming from VRZ LG G3 and LTE was just fine and never had an issue.
I looked at the VRZ LG G3 LTE bands and I see Band 3,4, and 13 enabled. It did not even have band 2.
More testing:
When I switched the Network Mode to LTE/CDMA I get constant 4G-LTE & internet is working but my phone cannot place and receive phone calls.
with LTE/CDMA I see 4G at 100dBm and 1X at 120dBm

Interesting, almost sounds like a bug in the LTE/GSM mode.
I assume when you switch to global mode, voice works but only HSPA, right?

I think since someone reported before that this used to work the G3, it sounds like a bug to me. I guess we can hope and pray that this will work in future releases, but there is no guarantee of course. Not sure what complaining to Verizon will do, since they are probably not very interested in you using T-Mobile. Of course, you can always wrap the complaint into something like you are using the phone in a different country on vacation and it doesn't work. Maybe a complaint to the FTC could work too, since it sounds like Verizon is required to have their phones unlocked for use on other networks based on some settlement.

I am tempted to try the guide in here to add more LTE bands:

While some testers said the LTE bands are limited by hardware others reported some success modifying the software. Any thoughts?

Unlocked HTC 10 issues with T-Mobile

I've just done a bit of traveling with my carrier unlocked HTC 10 on T-Mobile's network, and I've encountered quite a lot of reception issues with this device. I'm not sure what the issue is, but am curious about others experiences road tripping with this device.
Previously I've only used the phone in my home area (Chicago). The device has performed flawlessly there. This past week, however, I road tripped to Maine and back and had a lot of problems with coverage. I'm fairly new to T-Mobile, so I would normally write it off as their network, but my wife's iPhone 6s performed great in these areas, as did my Moto X Pure Edition.
Here are some of the issues I experienced:
In rural Maine, while the phone was roaming on AT&T, many incoming calls and texts would not come through at all. This behavior was intermittent, despite having 3+ bars of AT&T signal.
While the phone was roaming on AT&T, many outgoing texts would fail to send. Rebooting the phone was often the only way to get them to go through. Again, this was with strong AT&T signal.
Moving between AT&T and T-Mobile coverage areas in rural Maine, the phone would fail to reconnect to T-Mobile service on its own. In order to make this work, I would either have to reboot the phone, toggle airplane mode, manually select T-Mobile under Mobile network settings -> GSM/UMTS Options -> Network operators or, if those all failed, run the LTE Discovery app. I'm not sure why that would make the phone reconnect to T-Mobile service, but it seemed to do so consistently.
The phone would lose signal completly in areas where our iPhone 6s and Moto X Pure Edition had LTE signal
The phone would lose LTE signal and move to 2G/EDGE or no mobile data at all in areas where our iPhone 6s and Moto X had LTE signal
I've seen similar issues discussed over in http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/awful-lte-signal-update-t3378163, but it seems I'm experiencing more than just weak LTE signal.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar? Or am I having some sort of hardware issue? It seems crazy to me that this device would perform so poorly compared to the iPhone 6s and Moto X Pure Edition, both of which are also carrier unlocked. HTC told me I should try a new SIM, otherwise there might be a hardware issue, but I'm wondering if this is more widespread than just my device.
Haven't had any issues with mine
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
I live in Maine and haven't encountered any issues yet. Although I do live in So Maine so T-Mobile is pretty solid here. I would try the new SIM to see if that fixes the problem.
Are you s-off and unlocked? If so which firmware version are you on? The US Unlocked version or something else? If you're not on the US unlocked firmware I would try flashing that, if you're S-Off. If that fails to fix it then I'd suspect a hardware issue.

I'm on the US Unlocked version--not sure if it's s-off, I haven't done anything to it myself, so I'm using it however it came from HTC. Not sure if they are s-off by default or not.
Unfortunately I won't be back to Maine to test this new SIM this year. I guess I'll have to test locally side by side with my wife's iPhone to try to determine if it's still dropping coverage so regularly once I get out of a metro area.
I have a T-Mobile model that is running unlocked firmware and I experience switching problems when moving from wifi to lte. Simply put, I cannot connect to T-Mobile after leaving wifi unless I reboot the phone.

Do you use the LTE Discovery app? I wonder if that would work for you too, running though that process once usually made my phone pick T-Mobile signal back up.

I have in the past on other phones and I will try here
same problem
I had a same experience where my phone roamed onto AT&T network and it would not come back to T-mobile network. This happened when traveling from Michigan to Columbus OH and Michigan to West Virginia.
Both of the time, only way to fix was go to advanced setting and choose carrier or reboot phone.

[Q] New A70 not getting any bars on Mint Mobile (T-Mobile)

Hey ppl,
I just picked up an open box A70 for a great price from B&H in NYC. The model umber listed on the box is A705M 128GB DUOS GSM. In the 'About' setting in the phone, the model is listed as SM-A705MN. There is no DS or other identifier after the 'MN'. I popped in my Mint sim, which has been working in my Umidigi F1 and added the APN settings, but I got 0 bars and downloading anything (apps, websites, etc.) took a long time. I switched the sim card to the other sim slot (slot #1), but that didn't help. I downloaded an app called Signal Spy and it is showing -118 signal strength.
Anyone have this model and know why I am getting such poor signal and speed? Is it possible that this particular model does not have the bands for T-Mobile? Would a full reset help at all?
EDIT: I used a website to see if the phone was actually unlocked, and it gives the model number as SM-705MZKJTPA and a country/region as Panama. After switching the connection mode from LTE/3G/2G to 3G/2G, I got 4 bars, but a paltry 6-8 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. No bueno.
Lolol that variant doesn't have Tmobiles full network bands ,
USA and their extreme capitalism, bring back the phone to the store, it doesn't look like it supports your network provider.

Here's an update. I did a factory reset in preparation to return the phone to the store. But just on a lark I decided to try my sim card one more time. I put the sim card in, but this time it immediately showed the LTE symbol and at least 3 bars. I didn't bother changing the APN so it's just using the default (fast.t-mobile.com). I did a speed test and got 16 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. It's not amazing, but it's workable and certainly much better than before. And honestly, it's on par or better than what I was getting with my Umidigi F1.
I already ordered an A51 though, so I will test that out as well and see which one I like more and if the A51 has better network speeds.
