Viber messages not being delivered to MB4? - Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Questions & Answers

I have an odd problem with Viber messages not being delivered to MB4. Every other notification comes through without a problem, only Viber not. I tried everything - rebooting, disabling end enabling Viber on phone, checking permissions etc., testing it through Notify&Fitness app (Viber test message is being delivered fine) but in real life they are not being delivered. The strangest thing is that one time about 10 days ago and one time a few weeks ago, a couple of Viber messages were actually (out of the bloom) delivered but nothing since. I have the latest firmware 10.0.5.55 and latest MIUI 10.3.3.0 on phone. Any advice?

I don't use Viber, but maybe it's caused by some special thing in MIUI? It used to have big problems with notifications in general, not sure about the latest versions. Anyway, I would try lowering/increasing the notification category with Autonotification app, maybe it will help. Open the app, click on "Notification categories", find Viber, select channel for messages, click "ON" and change the importance.
And a stupid question, yet important - make sure that notification is not "disabled" in N&F app. I somehow clicked on "disabled" check box when configuring custom options for Gmail and was wondering why they don't come through..

Thanks, I'll try that app. I don't think it's MIUI related as I had MB3 for a year connected to the same phone and had no trouble with Viber.
And it's not about N&F either as I installed it only a few days ago just because Viber messages were not coming and I couldn't do anything else through Mi Fit.

Update: Viber is now working after removing Mi Fit, wiping it's cache/data and fresh install.
PS. Removing Mi Fit and leaving only N&F didn't help at first as all notifications were again coming OK except Viber, but Viber suddenly started working only after I installed Mi Fit again.

The problem is in Viber app and it default notifications.
The default setting is that viber notification will turn on display.
So solution is to either disable turn on display on viber notification or turn on in Mi Fit app to notify when display is on.

Hello, i have to chime in here as i have the same problem, though i use Mi Fit app to configure Mi Band and push notifications through it. Notifications seem to arrive just fine but as in this case, Viber notifications are exception.
As @trezor15 mentioned i tried to disable turn on display on viber notifications (from viber setup), because it does make sense, but it seems that for some reason phone is ignoring that option and screen still lights up after i disable that in viber. And still doesn't work even if i allow Mi App to notify when display is on.
What is weird is that the notifications will arrive on mi band 4 ONLY if i open up Viber app (and have unread messages) with Mi Fit app "notify when display is on" option is on. Which really has no point.
I haven't tried with N&F because i fail to see the point of having both Mi Fit and N&F if the viber notifications would work that way. Shouldn't it work with one app only?
Who would be responsible for this issue as i would like to submit a feedback. Would that be breators of Mi Fit app or Viber or Xiaomi itself?
P.S.
This was tried on Redmi Note 8 Pro, MIUI 11 (Mint Launcher).

Doze issues

well, first of all, I must admit that owning OP3 is one great experience. hardware is great and software feels so complete, that I have almost no need to root and/or install custom ROM. that being said, I'm still running stock OOS 3.1.2, as I can wait for better RAM handling and changing color balance slider to right-most position worked good enough for me regarding color balance.
but, I have a little issue with Doze:
I regularly have missed notifications, and some of them should really be high-priority and go through even in Doze.
basic example would be Viber call coming in. I could understand that Viber message is not reported immediately, but call should wake up device for sure.
I have used couple of other devices with Marshmallow before (Samsung with CM13 and Moto G3 with stock ROM), and neither of them had any issues with missed Viber calls nor messages.
now I put my phone on a table once I enter the office, or I just leave it once I'm at home, and I can be sure I'll have couple of missed Viber calls when I pick it up couple of hours later. that's not meant to be like that!
I know that I can exclude Viber from "Battery optimization", but I would not like to let Viber be completely and always active - I need just high-prio notifications.
also, I did not have to make any manual exceptions on CM13 and Motorola.
so, anyone else experiencing similar missed important notifications?
how did you handle this issue?
will some of upcoming OOS updates (3.1.3 or 3.1.4) address this issue?
thx.
Its a known issue with Oneplus 3 / Oxygen OS. There is a big thread @ https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/push-notification-issues.451149
You can disable Doze with this adb command to get your push notifications working . It won't survive a reboot, hence the command needs to be issued after every reboot.
"adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable"
thx.
it seems like a big mess out there...
Is there an official response from oneplus regarding this issue? Currently on OP2, thinking about upgrading but this sounds pretty bad.

Thanks again.
Kind regards, Drazen

I just installed OxygenOS 3.2.0.
It says in the description "Fixes some notification issues" and it seems to work now properly (at least for WhatsApp).
judging by this post:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/push-notification-issues.451149
whatsapp seems to be the only app which doesn't have issues with doze

WhatsApp definitely had issues before the update. Some notifications came 10-15 minutes late. Now it seems to be working fine.
On OOS 3.1.3 I was experiencing delayed gmail notifications. Tried to change battery settings to exclude gmail from dozing without any success.
But then I cleared data for gmail (settings > apps > gmail > storage > clear data), forcing it to setup from scratch. And voilá, since then I am always getting my gmail notifications on time!
Just upgraded to OOS 3.2.0 and my gmail notifications still work as expected. I don't use Viber or WhatsApp, so I can't tell if clearing data would do the trick for them too.
when you cleared data for gmail and it started working correctly, did you leave it excluded from "battery optimization", or it worked anyways?

It is not excluded from battery optimization, i.e. it work like it should: gmail sleeps in doze, but notifications are not delayed!

Unfortunately my gmail notifs stopped. Let the phone lay still and flat on desk for a while and sent a mail from my desktop. No notification on phone until I turn on the screen. :crying:
Tried to clear data again, but this didn't help.
Go to settings - battery. Tap the hamburger menu. Select battery optimization. Check if WhatsApp is mentioned in the list of NOT optimized apps. If it is not, add it together with any other app you wish to continue running during doze.

well, the test needs to be done just as you said. maybe some people are testing without giving the phone enough screen-off time. I will try and see what happens, since I am facing this issue both pre and after last update
EDIT cant find the option to clear data in Settings / Apps / Gmail
Any update on this issue from oneplus
It seems that Viber has some issues with Doze and GCM:
https://developer.android.com/training/monitoring-device-state/doze-standby.html#using_gcm
I am communicating with Viber about this issue via Service Ticket right now.
Unfortunately, they are still asking me to try this or that setting on my phone, and none of those settings are Doze-related.

I don't have issue with viber. Go to battery optimisation and remove viber from the list .

that's exactly what's not acceptable, as it should use GCM high-priority messages:
https://developer.android.com/training/monitoring-device-state/doze-standby.html#whitelisting-cases
Viber should fix it and use GCM high-priority messages instead of dirty hacks to avoid Doze
Disable Doze
You can try to disable doze with the app called "Disable Doze" :good: in the Play Store, which prevents doze completely without root. I had problems with mail notifications which could not be solved by disabling battery optimizations. With the app it is solved now!
No need for this. On 3.2.6 you can turn off doze in the settings.

Notification troubles

I've been having notification issues with my Mate 9 Pro (similar to Porsche) in the last couple of weeks.
Some apps don't notify my anymore - e.g. Hootsuite and Telegram.
I haven't changed anything and I've forced the notification to even be shown on locked screen but nothing shows up.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
I'm running B185 not rooted.
Sorry if posted in the wrong category, couldn't find a Mate 9 Pro specific board.
Same here with the PD phone, ever since i bought it I had the same issues.
Whatsapp is fine, Gmail is fine, Flightradar is fine, Agenda is fine, Facebook Messenger is fine. But Skype gives me a vibration and an icon, but no sound on an incoming message
I also suddenly had a problem that no app showed me anything before I actually opened the app. Was extremely annoying and started doing it without me changing anything. Factory reset fixed it

Passing Notifications to Smart Watch

I'm having problems getting the P2XL to pass notifications to my Huawei watch.
Phone calls are no problem, phone battery display, weather, steps etc all work fine.
I just don't get message notifications. I've tried using the stock app and Textra but neither works.
Facebook Messenger even works...
edit: I just noticed I also don't get notifications from GMail app.
I've gone in and disabled battery optimisation for Android Wear, allowed every imaginable notification permission but it still won't pass message notifications.
My old Pixel XL was great for this. It worked absolutely every time.

Similar boat here. Moto 360 v2. I use an app called Feel The Wear to give me a long vibration for texts which I get but no message on my watch. Not sure about Gmail notifications but don't remember getting a buzz or card on my watch.

probably not much help but i have a garmin fenix 3 hr and i get all notifications just fine.
could it be a permissions issue? i was prompted to give permissions when i connected the watch the first time.
I had the same issue with my Huawei watch. I had to forget the watch in the phone Bluetooth, clear app data on android wear, uninstall android wear, then re-install android wear and use it to set the watch up again. I did not have to reset the watch. After that notifications worked.

I was prompted for permission when I connected first time too, but... that was before the watch upgraded to Android 2.5
Count me in. I have the Pixel 2 XL and the Moto 360 gen 2. All was working fine except I would stop getting notifications randomly, but rebooting the watch would fix it (even though I turn the watch off most nights until I need to charge it, so it was being rebooted normally already).
Now the last 3 days no notifications. Reboots don't help at all.
When this happens, like the original post said, the watch is still connected, I get battery stats, it shows when audio plays, shows incoming phones calls, just no app notifications like text or gmail.
The only thing left to do is disconnect and reset. I'm still on the Sep 5th security update. I have the Nov security update notification, maybe I'll do that today and see if it helps at all.
By any chance have you NOT downloaded the actual app on your watch? I thought I had a problem too, with Feel the Wear, but then realized I hadn't downloaded the Feel the Wear app on my watch. As soon as I did, everything worked. This is with Android Wear 2 on a moto 360 sport.

I have a Samsung Gear S3 and it works perfect as well.
Make sure Android messages is installed on ur watch, this application is related to some of the missing notifications.

Problem with Notifications

Yesterday I got my new RN5 Global still running with stock MIUI Global 9.5.19.0. I noticed that notifications are not working reliably for some apps. For example I have an app set to Sound, LED light, vibration notification enabled but I dont receive any of those. When I unlock my phone I then only see the app's badge in the statusbar and the notification listed in the pulldown menue. I also already attempted to fix this by setting Battery saver to "No restriction" and Autostarts to "on". This did not help either though.
Anything else I could try to get proper notifications with this phone? This was working fine with my old Galaxy S5.

Reliable notifications was tradionally a PIA with MIUI, for me at least. It seems Xiaomi never cared that much about it functioning well. Or it is choked in favour of better battery.
Use Lineage or AOSP based if you need to rely on them. I do.
So there is no way to get notifications to work on stick MIUI? My bootloader is still not unlocked and the phone is worthless without notifications.

You'll have to dig deep into the app permissions, and then for some apps you can get reliable notification. But I can't help you with that, I'm not using Miui anymore.
I had complainted numerous times about it. If using your phone really as a work tool, which most probably not do, then you need good calendar, messenger, robust email, good collaboration, incl. rock solid notifications. But it seems that most people are rather much intersted in face unlock, double tap to wake and fingerprint. So certainly Xiaomi will care for these gimmicks, not productivity.
Notifications certainly used to be very unreliable on MIUI. But ever since miui 9, if i disable battery optimization for app and allow auto start, run in background etc. permissions, all my notifications work perfectly. Tho i only use messenger, facebook, gmail, instagram, youtube notifications

I have all those things activated for this app but it's still not working.
Same issue in MIUI 10. Tried everything from disabling battery optimisation to adding all permissions and notification sounds.
Some apps will work fine and i receive the notifications without problem e.g. messenger, facebook, gmail, whatsapp but others are completely silent e.g. hotukdeals, amazon shopping, ebay, onepulse, trello and many more despite having all the appropriate permissions will only notify silently.

Can't send new SMS/WhatsApp messages or reply with Android Auto

Had my 10t Lite for a couple of months now and think it's a great phone for the price, but I am having issues with Android Auto.
Voice commands work fine, I can play music, get directions, read messages etc, but if I want to send a new message or reply to one via SMS or WhatsApp, AA doesn't hear what I say.
I can say " Send Bob a WhatsApp message" and it understands that, but when it asks what the message is I just get static coloured dots, it doesn't react as if I'm saying anything.
The same happens when I get a message - I can say "what are my messages" and it reads them and asks if I want to reply, it understands yes or no, but not doesn't seem to trigger listening for the message, it just sits there waiting until I cancel it.
Everything is up to date and using 12.0.2 Global.
Thanks
Did you find how to fix it? I have the same problem and I need to send Whatsapp in the car
Having the same problem with my Poco F3. Anybody found a fix?
No, I still haven't found a fix
I had the same problem since months..
I have Xiaomi MI 10 Lite with lastest Global ROM. 12.5.1 stable.
I managed to solve yesterday.
I did a factory reset to the phone and without installing any application nor restore from backup I tested AA.
Same problem it did not work, so I installed everything in the same way and with the same apps and settings form the previous one.
The only different thing I did was : enabling "Google Ambient Mode"
Yesterday evening I tried again just to be sure and now google sends whatsapp messages through AA.
So I had a blink and tried the same thing with my wife phone (she as the same phone as me, as ofc the same problem with AA).
I enabled "Google Ambient Mode" from her phone (without factory reset) and AA now is working using his phone too...
To summarize everything:
- From the phone settings I have enabled Notification Access to -> Google Play Services and Android auto
- From the google settings I have enabled Google Ambient Mode
Let me know if this solve your issues...

Thanks, I'll try it out tomorrow and feed back!
I have an update... Today I tested a little bit more...
If you have enabled the ambient mode, it works only if the screen shows it...
I try to explain it better..
If the phone is charging and the screen shows the "Google Ambient Mode" (ie. screen is turned on) AA works like a charm.
If I press the power button and turn off the screen then AA does not works anymore...
Hope this helps.
I set Ambient mode on and plugged the phone into the car tonight.
The screen was off but I was able to use AA to send an SMS and a WhatsApp message, which I couldn't do before.
Haven't had chance to test replies yet, but just sending a message is a huge bonus.
