Best Launcher for ewry day - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello, stock launcher,for me not,that god, what's your,recomendation,for custom luncher,tnx

I use Evie Launcher from PlayStore.

Lawnchair or Evie Launcher are pretty good and lightweight. I'm using Lawnchair for years and never faced any problems.

Total Launcher. Have been using it for a few years now, on my phone, tablet and Android e-book reader and it's been working without issues on each of them all this time.

My favorite is Ruthless Pixel launcher (beta) from XDA Labs.

Ok im curently using, for some time lawhchair, working ok,buth no option to create folder in app drawer. My question how to disable stock launcher to run un background, whn using some oter launcher?

If you disable the stock launcher you will get Oreo recents. I think it is also related to some Google stuff...
I use a Magisk module to "hide" system apps I don't want, including the stock launcher.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-terminal-debloater-debloat-t3584163/
You don't need root though. You can use adb to remove the stock launcher.
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
If you disable the stock launcher with adb, I don't know how to get it back.
You could probably "freeze" the app with Titanium (root) too?
Note: If you disable the stock launcher make sure you always have at least one launcher installed or your phone won't work!
Oh, and I use Apex

Nova is always a solid choice as well ?

Still Nova Launcher

Problem setting default launcher

I'm having an issue with my phone remembering the default launcher choice. I have adw ex and nova installed. I clicked on adw ex and clicked "always" and it seems to work fine, but everytime i reboot my phone, it makes me choose a launcher. I thought it was the rom I was running at first, but now I've switched from paraKANGdroid to a stock based Jb rom and it is still doing it. Anyone have any idea what i can do to make it remember after a reboot?

It's probably installed as a system app with the ROM and he doesn't know how...
TiBu can remove it...
Thanks for the help, but so far no luck. Nova isn't installed as a system app, i just didn't want to remove it because I'm still deciding between the two launchers. I've had. Multiple launchers in the past but never had an issue. I suppose I'll just remove one or both and see if it works, then try adding it back if i change my mind

Apparently it's something about ADW. When i removed nova and reset ADW as the default and rebooted it again asked me to choose a launcher. So i did the opposite and uninstalled adw and set nova as default. Rebooted and it went straight to nova. It's strange, i use ADW on my tablet and it doesn't do it
Clear the cache and data for ADW... I don't have much experience with ADW, but I've had as many as four launchers installed with no issues... You could freeze Nova...

Launcher

Guys ,
I am looking for a simple clean launcher, I must have tried most of the known apps and nothing is working properly for me..I am looking for something similar to the stock one only without the carousel !!
I come from an iPhone background and I just want a clean launcher where I can put my apps in folder without all the rest of the crap !
1. Clean Android look
2. I can set my own damn wallpaper
3. Adv free
4. Weather and time widget
Regards
Mohammad
Nova Launcher with Dashclock widget. You have to make Nova a system app to get widgets to work...which means you have to be rooted. I understand there are a few launchers that can display widgets without being a system app, but IIRC none of them were "close to stock".
Give Cheetah launcher a try. its excessively theme able or u can set it up to look stock. Iv had a blast using mine, switching themes and stuff pretty regularly.
I have tried at least around 20 launchers. Unfortunately I was not able to get widgets to work on the majority of them out of the box. Based on other posts, I gather there might be a way to, however.
So far, Go Launcher Z seems to be the best for my needs. There is some extra stuff in the free version (especially towards the bottom of the App drawer), but It has been working very smoothly without issue for several months. I also found that Vire, Lucid, and Cheetah work fairly well.

Looking at it's Play store page it seems Cheetah Launcher install Clean Master and some "1 Touch Boost" bloatware?
Next Launcher + Next Notification - The Best !
This is top 1 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.pierrox.lightning_launcher_extreme
Feel free to edit icons, wallpapers everything you want.
BTW i really like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ginlemon.flowerpro
But there is no homescreen.

Mine does not have those installed. I even checked the running apps and downloaded apps. It has those functions through the launcher but nothing is added as seperate pieces of bloat. I would give all these options a try as there are different strokes for different folks, but i enjoy cheetah for its speed and easy themes.
Nova Launcher HELP
I have seen this over and over about using Nova launcher with the Fire Phone. "You have to make Nova a system app to get widgets to work" Can someone please describe how this is done so I can use widgets.
Thanks.

From a post made by @hmoobguy, @DePingus confirmed that if your phone is rooted and you move the launcher's apk from /data/app to /system/priv-app and reboot, widgets will work. Use ES File Explorer to move com.teslacoilsw.launcher (Nova Launcher's "Package Name").
Thank you

Apearently the above post is the one that I did not find and take note of. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
Widgets are now working. :good:
I nstalled Nova yesterday and arranged my apps and so on it, I kind of like it but I miss the Fire stock launcher (it kind of grew on me) so now I am using both Nova and stock launcher without any root and using home switcher, I could care less about widgets to tell you the truth so thats no reason for me to root it.
I am waiting for for Fire OS 5 before, if I like it then good and if not then I will root and customize it.
Google Now launcher works great and allows your own wallpaper and widgets with no ads.

After installing Google Now Launcher from the Play Store I get an Update Google App message stating that it requires a new version. This then defaults to the Amazon Appstore that says it's not available. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks
I'm running FireOS 4.6.3 and the Play Store works fine for other needs.

Have you tried updating it directly from the Play Store? Open the Play store, click on the hamburger (upper left), then My Apps, then Update. I've noticed the Amazon App Store tries to update apps that were loaded from the Play Store and it often doesn't work.
Thank you very much for all this great info. I must have tried 20+ different launchers including Vire, Buzz, Google now etc. each had some issues on my Fire phone so I ended up settling for Turbo Launcher EX. Really beautiful and fast:

Also a new launcher that I recently discovered TSF Launcher 3D looks amazing and runs great on my Amazon Fire:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsf.shell&hl=en
PS: I am using also Home Switch to be able to easily go back to Amazon’s fire home (carousel) if I ever need to:

Use the Google Now launcher. The widgets work, you can choose the wallpaper, no ads and it has weather and time widgets.

Just noticed that nova launcher prime is on sale - it's just 10p in the UK. Also, vire launcher has just been updated to work again on fire as they broke it a couple of months ago with a previous update.
Google now looks stock(of course) and has full functionality as far as I can see, no root involved. Widgets and wallpaper change work.

Question - Custom ROM

Hi All,
I'm pretty new to all this Android customization. I bought a Nexus 5X for development purposes, I already changed the Bootimg, which was nice and got the hang of that. With the custom ROM's I now found out how to remove the .apk's in the ROM to lighten it up.
Currently I've been experimenting with xTraFactory due to that it is light and removes alot.
Though I want to make it even lighter, Gapps that are in it, I want it all out, all of it. Calculator, other apps, just keeping the core functions of the device, phone, messages. and I have 2 apk's that I want installed a SIP client and a openVPN app.
The thing that annoys me the most is the Google search bar on the homescreen. I cannot seem to get it away. I've tried the SU Uninstaller thing, made the thing crash so I have to start over in recovery
Anyhow, do you guys have any tips for me on how to take this task on?
Much appreciated!

Only thing you can do is to use a different launcher. You can install nova launcher than use titanium backup to uninstall which ever launcher is installed. (Usually its Launcher3 on an AOSP ROM)

So as I then understand, Nova Launcher would become the native launcher after that process?

Microsoft Launcher Beta!

Microsoft Launcher Beta is the way to go! It works so much better! Fixes gesture problems and overall performance.
I had to do a Launcher Dance to install it.
1. Install another Launcher, I just installed Nova Launcher.
2. Go to the app settings for Microsoft Launcher and force Stop it.
3. Install the Beta apk
4. Uninstall the Launcher you installed in step 1.

How has the performance been using both screen? I am a beta tester for this launcher, been for a awhile but it will not allow me to download from the playstore. I was guessing this launcher was not optimised for the duo??

Maybe I'm missing a step but I don't see there is any difference in the launcher. I installed Lawnchair and set as my default, force stopped the M/S launcher then installed the APK then deleted Lawnchair? Will I see a different launcher version or have any of the beta settings??

The app groups icons will look different from before. Basically same from stock otherwise. But overall performance is greatly improved.
I can't tell much if a difference yet. But I am indeed in the beta... Still a totally nerfed launcher or KNOWS it's a duo and it hides all the good options....
Someone fork this and make it better already!

This for rid of 90% of random launcher freeze with gesture. Thanks a lot! You are the man!
Performance is nice with the beta thanks!
Play store claims that this Beta launcher is not compatible withe my Surface Duo. Perhaps it has been removed.
Beta is MUCH better!! Had to download and install the apk manually & it works great now!
Hi,
Yes, I've enlisted for the Microsoft Launcher Beta program and after some minutes, I was able to install it.
Not that I have seen much differences, but playing with it I discovered the "Group" option for 2 apps so when you hit that icon, it will launch one of the apps on one display and the other one on the second display.
Still there are really no options to configure it : even a thing to change icons is not there !
So really, I think we need a launcher that has options like Smart Launcher has, but that handles both displays well enough... We can always dream. But of course, as long as the MS Surface Duo sells in confidential volumes, there won't be anything to hope from software devs :-(
Regards.

Lag when using Nova Launcher?

I just noticed there's some lag in Mi 10T when using Nova Launcher as the default launcher. For example, when changing apps in multitasking or going back to homescreen.
Also, when Nova Launcher is set as default, you lose the gesture to go to the previous app swiping up from the bottom and then right.
Any solutions?

Gestures don't work at all in custom launchers, that's a limitation of android 10, and 11, and without rooting there is no solution for now. As for lagginess that's again using other launchers. Try and find one that doesn't lag (nova doesn't lag for me, but I'm using classic 3 buttons navigation because gesture nav doesn't work...)

You have to find the way to get nova launcher to behave like system launcher (delete miui launcher and put nova in its place) to get gestures working. Check on internet, there's tons of guides on how to make system launcher, or maybe there is some magisk module that does that...

I just tried that and made Nova a system app, then I deleted MIUI Launcher. It behaves the same. Switch between apps from the bottom (Android 10 native gesture) is not working. I'll just have to stick with the MIUI Launcher then, though I hate to see icon labels in home screen...

I feel your pain.
Same deal on my Note 10+... those damn white labels. That's all I wanted to change.
Nova Launcher does slow it down as do many others if it already has a good stock launcher as the 10+ actually does.
Nova used a lot more resources/battery than stock too.
Take any launcher instability seriously.
After hyperion boot looped me twice, yes two full reloads worth of fun, I decided I could live with the white labels.
My need for speed and system stability is much greater...
