Unlocked Note 10+ on TMobile ? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I got Note 10+ 256gb unlocked version from Samsung. Planning on using it on Tmobile. Do I need to do anything specific to make it more compatible with Tmobile. I've currently unlocked s10e on Tmobile and overall network coverage seems bit subpar compared to Galaxy S8 that I purchased from Tmobile.
So I'm just curious if I need to do anything for Note 10+ ince I get it, to make it more network friendly.

Download the tmobile firmware from sam mobile and odin it to your unlocked.

I googled it but didn't have luck. Any chance there is a link to the T-Mobile firmware?

It's not up on Sammobile yet...
But it is on samfrew
https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__Note10+__256GB__/c3pb/TMB/N975USQU1ASGO/N975UOYN1ASGO/

What about for the 512 version unlocked? Can use same as 256 unlocked?
And is it recommended to flash the firmware (T-Mobile in my case too) right out of the box or do you have to put your old sim in from your previous phone first, then setup your gmail acct and let the sim reach the T-Mobile network?
Never had unlocked phones so this will be a first, hence the questions...

I just flashed my Note 10+ with TMB fimware and it all went fine. here is the link from Sammobile https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-10-plus/firmware/SM-N975U/

It doesn't really matter. The storage size doesn't affect the firmware. It's all the same.
Flashing the carrier firmware will factory reset your device, so I wouldn't waste time setting it up first. Just put your SIM in and let it provision for T-Mobile. It happens automatically so there's nothing you have to do. Then flash the firmware with ODIN.
Just research and make sure you know what you're doing before flashing. ODIN is fairly fool proof, but it's still best to know what you're doing first.

Add each file to it's respective field in Odin v3.13.3. Use CSC_*** if you want to do a clean flash or HOME_CSC_*** if you want to keep your apps and data.
I thought you can flash without messing with your data.

Technically you can flash without messing data but will be difficult to identify the reasons if you encounter any issues after that. So its better to flash it now itself when its freshly out of the box

I was going to update the Unlocked firmware via OTA software update. Once I receive the update I will then flash the Tmobile firmware via Odin

Just received my unlocked Note10+ 512GB an hour ago and, as was the case with my unlocked Note9, it works great out of the box with T-Mobile and Mint (a discount reseller). No custom flashes needed unless you want the TMO bloatware. I would leave it as-is and just download the respective carrier apps individually. Love this BEAST so far! :good:

I bought the note 10+ and i'm on the tmobile network. The only issue I'm having is VOLTE. To my knowledge VOLTE should work. Can anyone confirm this?

Verizon Note 8...T-Mobile sim - help

Hello all, new here and I just purchased a Note 8 from Verizon. The device is paid off fully and i wish to use my T-Mobile simcard in it but it does not seem to be picking up a signal. I did update the verizon software to the latest version when i had my verizon sim card inserted. Verizon customer service told me i need to reset to factor setting then my t-mobile sim should work but this has not helped.
How can i get my t-mobile sim to work? Any help appreciated as i am new to android phones!
Thanks
Hi there, you must flash the new N950U1 2BQK1 or N950U 2BQK2 stock firmware to have full access of T-MOBILE Network. It's the only way it will work, I have AT&T NOTE 8 working on Verizon network with zero problem.
---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 PM ----------
It's a very easy process to flash the 4 US Carriers firmware, I have done it more than 50 times and I'm not a developer.

I would like to know where to get the firmware and with what do you flash it with? Is there a instructions thread or link.
It's been over 5 years since I have tinkered with a Samsung device.
Hi there. You'll need to have your Note 8 Bootloader version on level 2, meaning 2BQK2, 2BQJA or anything with 2 before the last 4 digits.
1) tmobile SIM card in device
2) Odin v3.12.7 make sure extract
3) 2BQK2 firmware extract all files
4) put all 4 set of firmware files in the right manner, bl,ap,cp and csc. Don't used home-csc only CSC.

First instructions is for if you want stock US CARRIER BLOATWARE FIRMWARE, second instructions is if you want SAMSUNG STOCK FIRMWARE. Follow steps and everything will be fine, happy flashing.
So wait, I have a Verizon Note 8 (currently using MetroPCS perfectly), but I wanted a stock Samsung ROM (without the Verizon crap on it), I can just flash the second set of files instead and done with it?
Yes
Can I use a gsm sim card and a verizon sim card at the same time on verizon branded phone? I see you have to flash the firmware above but am wondering if this would help me.
So much misinformation in this thread.
I don't even know where to start:
The OP was asking why his T-Monile SIM wouldn't work. It doesnt matter which firmware you're on, if the Note 8 is unlocked (the Verizon Note 8 IS unlocked), and it has a clean IMEI, and your SIM is already activated, then it will get 4G LTE. I know. I have a Verizon Note 8, and use it on Tmobile. I used it for over 24 hours with my T-Mo SIM but running thr Verizon firmware with no issues. Only reason I flashed T-Mobile firmware was to rid myself of Verizon bloat and to get wifi calling.
As far as bootloader, that has no effect on the SIM card working. The OP would need a v2 bootloader firmware if his current firmwarealso had the v2 bootload. It probably does, so thats a moot point, but the implication was the v2 bootloader was the only one that would make his SIM work.
I hope the OP got it all figured out.

plus the second SIM wouldn't have an IMEI assigned to it.
And I agree the OPs best bet is to flash thr T-Mobile firmware. But his issue was he wasnt getting a signal at all with his T-Mo SIM. Flashing firmware won't fix that. Source: I have a VZW Note 8 on T-Mo. Used it with the VZW firmware and a T-Mo SIM with no issues.

Another user had SIM issues and flashed back to factory (theirs was unlocked) then changed carriers and SIM worked again...sometimes a clean flash can work...
Hi all. For me I flash all firmware at clean wipe, never any issues. I have an unlock AT&T Note 8 unlock running the latest Verizon firmware with VZW SIM active. I also have a t-mobile S8+ unlock and running the latest U1 firmware and working with Verizon SIM active. I constantly switch my firmware between tmobile, verizon and at&t to see performance and what ever else feature added.

How did you get ATT N8 to work on VZW? I flashed my Tmo to VZW and i could never get speeds above 1mpbs. Even with unlocked firmware it did not get anywhere with VZW. I heard that its because the IMEI is not in VZWs database.
Hi there. My AT&T Note 8 works great on Verizon network, it's running the latest N950U1 Firmware 2BQL2, everything works great. It will work good on T-Mobile too, lately tmobile network giving trouble, sometimes less than 1 mbps on download. Since June 2017 I been having trouble with tmobile network in my area and around, so I switch to Verizon, couldn't bother the crappie service. My location I get 215 mbps on my note 8, IPhone 8 plus 147mbps download. I prefer Tmobile but it's not working good in area anymore.

I currently have a Verizon Note 8 with a TMO SIM and I'm getting 4GLTE but a few problems. Most of the incoming calls forward to voicemail and all outgoing calls the data has to drop completely before the call can connect. Will doing the carrier switching updates listed in the link above as well as flashing T-Mobile firmware assist with this problem? The phone is on 2BQK2 currently.

Verizion note8 with tmobile sim card
This is what happened when I changed carriers from the original verizon note8, on verizon network, with verizon sim and the most recent verizon pie update, to a carriers sim, that is tmobile service. And what happens, I didn't even think was possible... I put the new carriers sim in, truconnect, booted and let the phone register the new sim and network. Checked for update.... the was one, let the phone download and update. And you know how Verizon's boot logo is... it wasn't anymore. Booted the tmobile boot logo and sounds, strange. I'm not super noob and the little bit of knowledge and experience that I do have with roms and updates across carriers usually require physically flashing the rom. Correct me if I'm mistaking. Continuing.... optimizing apps....., huh?! The update flashed the tmobile software, without effecting any personally installed apps. Though the update did remove all the verzion software/bloatware, without permissions, and installed tmobile apps. 2 that are meant for user usage. They are tmobiles device unlock and the tmobile app. Which I might add, do not function, I surmise, because in not on the actual main tmobile network, but a scabbed on. I have never seen or experienced anything of the short. Please tell me if this is normal.? I was a bit upset. I did not give any carrier the permission to delete or install any app on my phone. But maybe things have changed since I dabbled. And If they have, maybe this might help the people that have been using Odin to get tmobile version rom while originally being a verzion phone. I dont think it's normal. Please tell me if this has happened to you.

Can all USA Galaxy S9 models be flashed to each other's firmware?

I've read that the Galaxy S9 hardware is identical for all carriers in the USA.
If I bought a factory unlocked Galaxy S9 can I flash it to the carrier I am using (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T) to enable carrier specific software and features? Can I flash it back to the unlocked firmware?
I already see a thread about flashing the unlocked firmware to carrier models so I am assuming there are no issues there.
Can one carrier model be flashed to another carrier model?
No, bootloaders are different, with the S7 there was an unbranded U firmware that was compatible with most of them, unlocked firmware will be that one for the S9, but no you cannot just flash different device firmwares to the wrong model
I was able to flash the ATT rom onto my Verizon S9. I got a VZ s9 from work but I'm on ATT. For the most part it's worked great, I had done the same thing previously with a Galaxy S7. I say for the most part b/c I am on here tonight to post a question myself about the fact that I'm getting a delay with MMS messages. I imagine it has something to do with the APNs I have setup, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Did you have to flash to the U1 software first?
I do think that is what I ended up doing... tried to go directly first and it kept failing. Got fed up and decided to just try and put the bone stock rom on it, and that went on really easily.... so after using it like that a few days I tried to drop the ATT rom on it and it worked without issue.

Yes, but you need to go to the u1 firmware 1st then to the other carrier firmware. Also make sure you avoid the newer firmwares with the new bootloader, as the unlocked model and certain carrier models don't have the new bootloader.

That'll be why I still thought that then, coming straight from the S7 > S9
Had many members flashing the wrong firmwares thinking they could do that and bricking their S7s / wondering why ODIN failed

I tried downloading vzw firmware G960USQS3ARI6 to my unlocked sprint s9 and still not vzw flashed. want to do this so can have voice over LTE. Any other steps im missing? flash went through but still sprint
As soon as Firmware ver. 3 came out for the G960U1, I was able to flash it to my Sprint G960U and finally have VoLTE, WiFi calling and stable LTE for MetroPCS. Used samkey to unlock it from Sprint. My phone is actually performing much faster without all of Sprint's bloatware hogging my RAM and storage space. I can confirm that OTA updates still work the same...I received September's security patch (current) with no problems. Device is still official status and Knox hasn't been tripped.
A lot of people think you can just flash the carrier firmware of your choice and boom, it works...I had the same thought process....that's not the case. You have to make sure that there is a matching firmware version for the carrier you want to flash to, as well as make sure the G960U1 firmware version (the unlocked version of the S9's software you have to flash first before even carrier flashing) is the same version of what is installed on your phone now. It's easy ya'll......just READ lol.
I'm in love with my phone again thanks to XDA. ?

Well first off, you have the unlocked phone. I don't. My G960U is originally from Sprint, so I'm not sure about carrier flashing regarding the G960U1. I thought it was supposed to provision itself after you put the sim in, and the associated carrier apps will download since it's the unlocked model...but I may be wrong...

I know so many people have already answered your question from some saying No to others saying Yes but you need to Install U1 first and Bla Bla Bla.
I want to give you one specific answer: With S9 you can any Carriers firmware you wish or even Unlocked phone's firmware. You will never have any issue. And you don't ever need to flash U1 or something else before changing carrier firmware you can Flash from ATT S9 firmware to VZW S9 firmware without any issue. You can also flash from U to U1 which is from Carrier specific to Unbranded/Unlocked but only hiccup is original Odin will give you SHA-256 error, which is normal because you are flashing U1 firm to U device or vice versa. This error can easily be resolved by used Patched odin that disabled SHA-256 check. And trust me you will never have any issue.
You will never want to do this but I have gone as far as mix-matching U and U1 firmware together as well. Like flashing AP, BL and CP of U device but flashing CSC of U1 device. and it still works.
hey there, a little late to the party, having trouble with going from a Verizon to a Sprint, even by way of U1. I can't get any of them to work. And I've been told I have to go from VZW to U1 before I went to Sprint. Is that not the case? I'm having a hell of a time getting anything to flash, everything fails.

well, I tried to load the Sprint image from the VZW, no dice. It said it passed, but upon reboot loaded up the old Big Red (even with the Sprint SIM in it).

3. Is unlocked model have wifi calling, volte?
I should get mine Tue or Wed, I'm on ATT, I plan on just trying my SIM card...I'll try to remember to report back later in the week..
Thank, I will wait for your answer. I heard from the other post that some feature won't work with tmobile? I don't plan to root or anything

1.) - Yes it is that simple and it does work. I had done it with the U1 firmware and had no issues. If you want to ensure full compatibility (and video calling) then you will wanna consider flashing the Tmobile carrier firmware. Flashing carrier firmware onto the phone will not have any impact on the network/sim unlock status (in case if your wondering).
2.) - You will have to ask the carrier your going to use in Asia if it will be supported. Since the unlocked model has no sim/carrier lock on it you can use it with any provider that supports the phone.
3.) - Yes and No, depending on the carrier. Tmobile has been the most compatible with BYOD devices so yes to most of that. AT&T on the other hand not so much so, as they only provision things like WiFi calling, VOLTE, etc. on phones they have sold. Some people have tried to find work arounds to this AT&T restriction, so YMMV.
In Tmobile's case if I remember correctly WiFi calling should work just fine and VOLTE will. You may need to setup the APN manually, or at least make sure it is set up properly. Another option (and one I did to get video calling to work) is flashing the the firmware from Tmobile for the SM-N975U to ensure full carrier compatibility.
What do you mean full compatibly video call, isnt video go with facebook messenger or depend on apps?
I don't have to root in order to flash, right?
Is there any current issues that I need to know?
Is it worth get 5g at all?
Is there any guide or video guide to flash tmobile carrier firmware to note 10 plus unlocked? Please answer asap so i can purchase phone soon

Hopefully this will clear up any misunderstanding..
My reply was referring to carrier features and nothing more.
When I says "full compatibility" I mean any specific customization or tweaks the carrier makes to the firmware they release for the network they run. These tweaks would not be fully (or mostly) present on the U1 firmware. For example U1 firmware may not get the best speed or signal strength as opposed to the carrier released U firmware.
When I say "video calling" I am talking about starting a video call from the dialer app (same one you use to dial a random number on the telephone). This would not be present on the U1 firmware.

No.. but I would suggest that you do some google searches and read up on how to do this. This way you have an understanding on what you will need odin for and how to use it.

IMHO in the USA I wouldn't just yet.. Not unless you want the shiny shiny to show off to your friends. It's not widely available and once it is I would still wait for them to work out all the kinks before spending the extra money. The LTE speeds I get as it is are sufficient enough for what I do, but eventually I will end up getting 5G after it gets fully released and the carriers get it stabilized.

Yes tutorials and videos are on the internet.
I would encourage you to put some effort into finding the answer. I will tell you that the steps to do this are the same for the S9+ and a person was just recently discussing flashing 975U firmware to the 975U1 firmware on this forum.
I wonder if this video good idea to follow

It is pretty decent.. but here's a few more things you will want to do.
If you have a google account on the phone already be sure to factory data reset it to remove FRP lock.
If not already mentioned in the video use the CSC_*** file and not the home_csc file.
Flash the USERDATA file included with the tmobile firmware. You can easily see where to place the USERDATA file in tge odin flashing tool.
After you get done flashing the phone be sure to factory data reset it to ensure everything works (OTA, etc).

Can't say for sure it would work on U firmware (lack of first hand experience to verify) as it would for U1.... As long as the phone is network/sim unlocked then you should be able to just put the new sim card in it (and the phone will read the sim card settings and apply them).
Flashing the U1 firmware instructions on flashing U1 firmware have been at link below (bottom of first post). You can get the firmware from that thread also.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80072192&postcount=1
Of course keep in mind that none of this will matter unless the phone is sim/network unlocked. As long as you meet the requirements from Verizon (or the phone was blacklisted for either non payment, lost/stolen or a warranty/insurance exchange that wasn't sent in) then this shouldn't be an issue.
its locked to Verizon at the moment when I put a sim in it will work for a bit then say its not allowed to use another carriers sim at this time.

Either wait until the phone is able to be unlocked by Verizon, or call them and request that they unlock it for you. Until that happens you will not be able to use a non-verizon sim card.
I would also advise keeping the U firmware for Verizon installed and not flashing the U1 firmware, as the Verizon sim/network unlock requires the carrier firmware... At least that is what I am gathering from various discussions/threads.

Is your phone carrier locked to Verizon? Has it been activated on Verizon's service for 30 days? If not, I'm pretty sure firmware flashing won't help anything. I'm on a Verizon MVNO and they wouldn't even unlock it for me to use on their own network. I had to activate with them for 30 days.
However, now that mine is unlocked, it's still locked down to Verizon in a lotof ways. My SIM card for my current carrier can't apply an APN, for example, so I have to do it manually. I'm contemplating flashing U1 to fix that issue (I hope).
I have a very similar situation. I bought a Note 10+ N975U (Verizon Unlocked) and I want to take it to U1 and then maybe to Sprint. I tried to go to the OP here and follow instructions. So I downloaded and selected all the files for U1 and apparently I did the "no-no" and got stopped with the SW Rev Check Fail : abl Fused 2 > Binary 1. I looked at what my phone is on and it is the SJ8 (November?) from Verizon. I'm guessing that means the BL file (bootloader?) in the U1 folder (SGO?) is older than what is on my phone? What do I need to do differently? I already tried without selecting the BL file, but it still gives the same error. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The bootloader of the U1 firmware you were trying to flash is lower then what is currently on your phone. So yes you are correct that is the no-no. Also you can not skip the bootloader file when flashing, so that wouldn't have worked.
If you read through that thread you will have found others asking how to go from U to U1 firmware. Also the error within regards to trying to flash a lower bootloader version firmware was also asked and answered. I would encourage you to browse that thread and the Q&A forum because this process has been discussed on more then one occasion... It might contain helpful/useful info for you.
In short you need to get a newer firmware release. Using samfirm or frija apps, or the sammobile website look for the firmware your seeking. Google searching will show you how to obtain samfirm, frija is posted the forum here if I recall correctly.
For U1 the model is SM-N975U1 and the region is XAA.

Help Flashing Samsung Galaxy S10+ from VZW to Strait-Talk

Hey everyone,
I'm new to flashing phones but have experience flashing other hardware; still, I felt it prudent to ask for some guidance on this being my first attempt:
I have a Straight-Talk phone which is active and working with 4G that I would like to swap the SIM over to use in my Galaxy S10+ from Verizon.
Swapping the SIM without flashing limited the functionality to be contingent on WiFi; 4G would not work correctly.
So I suspect I'll need to flash with unlocked firmware to get it to work properly.
I have downloaded the G975U1_SAU_1.zip which is what I think I'll be needing to pull this off, as well as the latest available download of Odin (3.14.1).
Before I get started, I'd just like to ask some Questions:
Should I leave the intended SIM (Straight-Talk) in the S10+ (Verizon) while I'm flashing, or insert it after the flashing?
Am I using the correct firmware to flash this Verizon phone to work with Strait-Talk? (United States regions)
Also should I back up the intended SIM in some fashion before proceeding with this process (if so what software if any would be advisable for this?)
Is there anything I need to watch out for?
Am I on the right track for what I'm attempting to do?
Thanks in advanced for any help! :highfive:

Insert SIM after flashing. You need the current U1 firmware from sam mobile. You also need the patched version of Odin that's floating around the forums here. No need to backup your SIM, but using Odin will reset your phone to brand new. Nothing that I can think of, you just put the correct Odin file in each slot and hit go. Seems like you're onto it, you need 3 things which are patched Odin, latest firmware, and I think phone drivers so your PC recognizes the phone. Should be able to find these on Samsung website or other parts of the web.
Thanks for the support!
After your encouragement, I rechecked my firmware made sure to acquire the USB Drivers from Samsung.
Successfully flashed the phone and its now working as intended!
:victory:
I used the Frija tool mentioned here to make sure I had the right files.
And the Driver install came from here.
Thanks again for your support! :highfive:

No problem man, glad to help. Good you posted links too so others can do the same if they're having issues.
Absolutely!
Anything I can do to help pay it forward.
I should also mention I got my CSC code from the list posted at
Droid Views dot com /how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
(Won't let me post the outside link given that I'm new)
The code was required to use Frija to download the correct firmware.
(The 4GB download averaged at 2.5MB/s)
Here is the list I saw on the aforementioned page; I used XAA
Code:
[LIST]
[*]ACG – Nextech/C Spire
[*]ATT – AT&T
[*]CCT – Comcast
[*]LRA – Bluegrass Cellular
[*]SPR – Sprint (CDMA)
[*]TFN – Tracfone
[*]TMB – T-Mobile
[*]USC – US Cellular
[*]VMU – Virgin Mobile USA
[*]VZW – Verizon
[*]XAA – USA (unbranded/unlocked/default)
[*]XAS – USA (unbranded/unlocked)
[/LIST]
Random questions:
If you start with a Tmobile GM-S975U that is carrier unlocked (got unlock code from tmobile)
Will it work just fine with straight talk? If not Does changing the CSC code work, and to which code?
Is different firmware required? like U1?

The U1 software for the S-10 plus is strait from Samsung and has no carrier bloat. All US S-10 pluses are the same, no matter who the carrier is. That means you can flash any vendors rom as long as you don't go backwards on the bootloader version. The phone gets set up by the simm card installed on the first boot. The good things about the U1 software is there is no vendor bloat and your updates come straight from Samsung. Don't forget, you have to us the customized Odin to flash with.
Deatailed info and Odin link can be found here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/guide-g975f-flashing-megathread-faqs-t3936704
Thanks for the reply. Should straight talk just work? My friend says data isn’t working on tmo firmware. What firmware and Csc code would work with them?
curious, do mobile Hotspot work, or is carrier still able to block it?
