Dex won't install on my laptop - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Has anyone else had issues installing Dex on a PC? I was able to install fine on my desktop but it won't install on my laptop. I download the file from Samsung and run the file to install the screen pops up but when I accept terms and hit next the screen disappears and doesn't come back up.

Yes, I am having the exact same issue. Have spent a long time searching to see if there's a solution but your post is the first time I have seen that proves it's not just me!
I am guessing it is most likely to be a software conflict but I just cannot figure out what might be clashing. I don't think I have anything unusual running. Hardware wise my laptop definitely meets the specs required. What laptop are you using? Mine is an HP Spectre x360 - 15-bl050na
If you do find a solution please post it here (I will do the same of course)

Just installed on laptop now. Did hang at 0% for a long time, not sure why, but finally installed after about 3 minutes.

go to device manager under usb device you'll see a warning icon next to samsung_android, if so go download and install the samsung usb drivers for android. This has resolved this same issue on 2 of my computers.

Yes, installing the drivers worked for me, thanks!

I have a similar issue with my MacBook Air. I download the .dmg file, open and install it. The MBA reboots but never actually installed Dex.

works perfectly with my laptop

It's a Mac and you're trying to link it to an Android... Need I say more?
Sorry, couldn't resist. Did you try it with the phone connected? When connected does your MBA see the Note 10 and recognize it?

Hello there similar issue in my case; in attachment the error message from my laptop installation, which went fine on the desktop.
The laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon) installation always hangs at 16%.
But I have a S10+ and the Samsung drivers are already installed; using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.
Hope you have some suggestion.
Thanks

Solved; in case you have the issue, prior installing enter the task manager and force close task named msiexec.exe.
That worked for me
Ciao

I am having the same problems... tried installing the drivers, same result. Install fails at 49%, repeatedly.

[Q] Problem installing Samsung MTP Windows 7 update

As the title suggests I cannot install the Samsung MTP Windows 7 update. I also get a message stating that the driver for the Nexus did not install correctly. Obviously, this means that I cannot see the phone as a device within My Computer and therefore I cannot transfer files on to the phone.
I only install Windows 7 about 6 weeks ago so I doubt the Windows install is corrupted.
Other than this slight issue I have to say that I LOVE this phone.
Any help much appreciated!
Error details below:
Windows error code 800F020B
Samsung Electronis Co., Ltd - Other hardware - SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device
Status: Failed

I thought this was the right forum for this question as it is a Galaxy Nexus?!
Remove all the samsung USB driver's and regulair drivers you allready have installed.
than update your windows 7 to latest update.
reboot.
and try again.
let us know if that helped.

Thanks for posting this information. IMO, leaving the device plugged in is counterintuitive when updating that but it does resolve the problem.
What I'd suggest is as mentioned before, through control remove any and all drivers you have installed and then try the universal drivers 0.7 in the Dev section. I can confirm they work a treat on windows 7. One sec and I'll get a link for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875
So when you plug your phone in windows may try and auto install the drivers, can cell windows for doing anything and then manually direct it to look for where ever you put the universal one. This will work in both adb mode (phone on) and fast boot mode and will also work using a tool kit.

Not sure what you got a hold of. Just looked at the MSDN kit here and there's no RC. Everything still shows Preview..
Why not just partition and dual boot with a 7 that you know works? Or look for a Android SDK. Doubtful you'll find any Sammy support just yet..

AT&T Galaxy S3 with CM 10 not connecting to PC

I am having issues getting my AT&T Galaxy S3 with CM 10 to connect to my PC so I can view it in Windows Explorer. Here is what I have tried doing:
Tried three different cables that worked previously
Tried different PC/laptops with the same OS, Win7 64bit
Re-install Samsung drivers
Clean flash CM10
Restore back to stock TW
Did a battery pull
I am just at a loss on what to do to get it to work. My computers don't see the phone in Device Manager, but will charge the phone. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Should I contact AT&T or Samsung to get a replacement?
Holy ****. This just started happening to me too. Tried everything!
I'm on tasks aokp with w7. I also tried my sisters mac and my homies windows 7 computer. Nothing works. Tried different cables as well. all it does is it charges!

I've seen a few others in the CM10 thread saying the same thing. The second poster here said he is having the issue to but on AOKP, which is built off of CM10. I just wonder if it's the port on the phone? I went back to stock to try it yesterday and still have the issue, so it makes me think that its either the port or something on Windows 7. But I would think if it was the port, then it wouldn't charge.
I am on AOKP on 10/28 build with Tasks thread.
This issue wasn't there last time i checked about 4 or 5 builds ago (since i don't plug my phone in that often).
I'm about to install Windows 8 on my computer, lets see what that does xD

Try this:
Uninstall all Drivers, and Kies if installed
Reboot
Install these drivers
Reboot
Place your phone into Download Mode and open ODIN
Hook up
See if at least those drivers will install
If they do, unhook your phone, boot it up normally, and hook it back up

[Q] Rooting Help? USB Not Working In Download Mode

I have a Sprint Samsun Galaxy Note 4, in the USA. I'm trying to root my device - I've read online tutorials, watched videos, and it doesn't seem to be working. Here's what happens:
1. Downloaded CF Auto Root for my device, unzipped it.
2. Set up ODIN.
3. Set phone to download mode, plugged in to PC.
4. Did not see the blue light, figured I didn't have the right drivers.
5. Turned phone back on, and noticed that ODIN light now works (as do file transfers), but downloaded new drivers anyway.
6. Uninstalled old drivers, rebooted.
7. Installed new drivers, rebooted.
8. Placed phone in download mode again, same issue.
Any ideas?
Did you wait a couple of minutes between steps 3 and 4 before giving up. I just re-did this last night; I didn't time it but my PC must have taken a minute to show COM to be ready to start Odin on the stock tar.
I was also having USB driver issues and reinstalled. My PC has been having USB issues in general with Windows 8.1 updates; had to uninstall and reinstall the same PC generic USB driver. Circa 2009 era PC needs an overhaul or replacement.
BTW, if you're using an older CF Auto root, CF went back to Odin 3.07 and updated to superSU v2.45
I did, because I was unsure what was going on. This is only the second time I've rooted a phone, so I was unsure what would happen if I pulled the battery. I think I waited about 20 minutes while looking online to figure out what was going on.
I'm not sure what you mean by an older version. I downloaded the version for my phone from chainfire.eu

Some questions I should have asked earlier: USB debugging enabled? Using USB 2.0? Tried different USB cables?
Yes, device debugging is enabled. First thing I did on my phone after activation =)
I'm not sure how to tell if I'm using USB 2.0 or 3.0.
I did try a different cable. I don't think the cable would be the issue since it works when the phone is on normally, though?
I'm going to follow the troubleshooting guide in the links you posted, see if that helps =)

PS. Did you use Kingo to root your note 4? I might give it a try.
No, I just posted links for the thoroughness of checks. I used CF Auto root. Good luck.
Did not work either. It DOES say I'm connected, went through the reboot, but then just starts over again. /sigh
I'm thinking the MTP might be the issue, but I don't seem to have a MSD option on my note 4?
Any more ideas?
What Windows version are using? If it's 8.1, has it been updated? There was a USB 2.0 update that fixed some devices reporting as compatible greater than 2.0 but not handled correctly by Windows 8.1 but was OK with Windows 8.0 and below. Windows 8.1 got an update July, 2014, that should have fixed that but not all were fixed; there's a link for reporting exceptions with a log but I'm not sure that applies to you.
Have you tried using the USB port on test of PC case?
Maybe being more specific about your PC and what you've tried would help.
From there, if anyone else has some suggestions, please advise.

I'm sorry but I don't recall seeing this reply because I don't understand it now. I may have overlooked it?
Are you saying the phone appears to download but boot loops? You should see success and 0 failures prior to auto boot. Is that the CF Auto root flash in Odin or another Odin flash like recovery or stock tar? If that's happening, did you try to pull battery and delete cache and dalvik cache in recovery? Is the phone semi bricked or just not rooted? Can you Odin the recovery tar for TWRP recovery? If so, you could just flash the superSU zip file in TWRP.
http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Another suggestion, if you're getting anywhere with Odin, you should close and reopen Odin if doing multiple flashes. Close after each flash; i.e., power down, flash stock tar, close Odin, open Odin, flash CF Auto root, close Odin, flash recovery (download mode steps omitted since you know that already).
Again, someone might could help with detailed setup details and steps taken. Sorry if I'm not following well; I'd like to help, if possible.

Didn't realize the auto correct suggested wrong word. I meant rear USB of PC case but trying another PC is also suggested.
Windows 7 means most of my suggestions regarding the drivers may not apply to you. Off topic: upgrading to Windows 8 from Windows Vista had me searching for needed applications and tools omitted from Windows 8. Windows 7 is more developer ready than Windows 8. Simply rooting should be OK with either version as long as drivers and Windows updates are up to date and not broken.
Try those ideas; if still no success, consider the suggestions and questions I gave in the reply earlier today.

Windows 7 64bit, ruu.exe ?

Does anyone know why the above os won't run a signed exe ruu ?
It's a new pc and was having trouble gettin HTC drivers installed so that the phone would take fastboot commands. That's solved now, but still have a problem gettin an ruu to run.
I get to the window where you "check" tilt you agree with t&c's etc but after that, nothing.
It works fine on a 32bit machine.

There's a similar thread in here but the suggestions made in it don't help.
Cheers

No idea. I never had those problems with my Win7 64.
What are the errors you are getting?

No "errors" as such, just stops after accepting terms and conditions. Goes through the "install wizard" ok then after clicking "yes" to accept t&c's it goes no further. I've used the exact same download on a 32bit machine, several times, without any problems.
Cheers
Give it some time. For whatever reason, there is an absurd delay at times in the RUU software. I'm not sure if that is a x64 thing or not, as I only run RUU's from my Win7-64bit machine, but it does eventually get there.

Ok, thanks. What sort of "time" are you talking about ? 2 or 3 minutes or more.
Have, over last few nights, let it "sit", but prob only 30 seconds or so.
P.S. Did you get your HTC drivers, for fastboot, to install ok ?
I had to go into "advanced settings" by constantly pressing f8 on pc reboot and "force it" to install unsigned drivers.

I forget now, as it's been a while, but I remember thinking it had locked up and killed it from Task Manager a few times. It was on the order of minutes.
Also, yes - I had all of the drivers installed at that point, and could talk to the phone using adb/fastboot.

Thanks for your replies...... just got it to run.
It runs in seconds, now, after accepting "license agreement".
Downloaded ruu again and now runs, don't know if redownloading solved it or not but that's the only thing that's different from my previous attempt.
