strange problem with fingerprint scanner - Samsung Galaxy A70 Questions & Answers

so I have my A70 for two weeks now and I am happy with it. the fingerprint scanner is okay, not as fast as the physical one but I do not mind. my security update version is 1 may 2019.
so yesterday I noticed that, at work when I take my phone out of my overall chest pocket I find it unlocked and many apps open. it did this consistently throughout the day. after a lot of experiments and investigation I figured out that fingerprint scanner reads the fabric of the overall as my fingerprint and unlocks the phone!! just the slightest touch of the fabric to the sensor and it opens immediately. so I went to fingerprints setting and through (check added fingerprints) I figured out what fingerprint the sensor was recognizing and I deleted it, but the fabric was recognized again and again until I deleted all of the added fingerprints.
when I went home I enrolled my fingerprints again and tested it on the fabric many many times and other types of fabrics also and it did not unlock, so I thought that solved the problem, but today at work the same thing happened again!!
I am really disappointed in the fingerprint scanner now, I really like the phone but I do not want to go back to PIN unlock.
so, what is going on?!
note: I work in an office and I had the phone for two weeks without problem and I always put it in my chest pocket, but yesterday and today we had site visit and it is hot here and I got really sweaty. may be the sweat is causing the problem?

Be it sweat or anything else, this shouldn't happen. Take your device to the nearest Samsung customer service center and tell them to have a mechanical check on the device.

[S Pen ISSUE] Take caution when buying magnetic cases.

I purchased,
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-Three-St...ios&hash=item4abc8f0ae3&_uhb=1#ht_4861wt_1037
case for my SG-N8010 and everything seemed to be fine until i noticed a S-Pen disorientation near the area where the magnet was. However, using my finger seemed perfectly fine. At first I thought it would be some software issue since I upgraded it to 4.1.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925720) but after hours of searching the net for a possible solution I gave up. So a buddy of mine wanted to see it out of its case today and I noticed that the s pen was working perfectly when he was playing with it. I did try this later on and figured out that the problem did reside in the magnets being in my case.
SO voila! If you buy a magnetic case and face a s pen disorientation problem, just get another non magnetic case as it is frustrating at times when you are at lectures and constantly have to avoid a certain part of the screen to write on.
Please note I am no expert in Android, Im just the typical person who can install roms/kernals/multiwindow apps etc.
This problem may not affect you but it did on my SG-N8010.
Cheers

I figure this out back in the days of the g1 I actually returned 2 of them because the compass got all screwy. Since then I avoid magnets near my electronics like the plague.

I too had this concern when buying a case. Ive had the official bookcover case for about 2 months now and every once in a while the s-pen will require extra force to register. This only happens above the magnets and with the case on. Once i take the case off and put it back on, everything is fine. It doesn't happen enough to bother me. Hopefully it isnt a huge issue.
With my regular Wacom tablets (same technology), I have this issue if I sit my laptop over the keyboard and I notice the CPU interferes with it...
Sometimes my phone as well will cause problems. Because there is a signal between the pen and the tablet (the tablet screen in this case), that really doesn't surprise me...
Well I have been using a case with magnet, not really a big user of SPEN but whatever little I used for did not see any issue.
Hi,
I've just check.
I write a pattern of flat line all over the screen in Quill program, and have detect two areas where the spen don't works.
I use a no original book like case.
Once released the tablet from the case, the two areas works fine.

[Q] Pulse and SpO2 sensor working?

I was able to have three people get the Pulse working and the pedometer is counting although not as accurate as a regular step counter.
Just got the spO2 working also, read a 96%
My sp02 Meter didn't read until today. ()
My bpm is working, has been since I got it in the mail yesterday. BUT it is notably finicky.
And the same goes for the sp02 reader.
I haven't been able to get an accurate read from anything with my Spigen btw.
*I haven't looked for any updates( waiting4root), but I suspect most of the issues are software related
Hope this helps!
good call on the spigen case.
I took mine off and now the bpm works well. The O2 sensor is still finicky but at least gets a reading. My S5 with the same case worked though so this is disappointing.
I have tried taking my case off, still no go. Everything else seems to work, not sure on the accuracy. Have tried holding in different positions, just wondered if you have to hold a specific way. I hold it with the phone resting on the finger line the heart & stress text, go keeps returning back to screen to retest. Thx for the post.
[emoji53]
Mine seems to work if you are still and only lightly touching the sensor. Not only that but I used just the tip of my finger. I don't have a problem with it reading anything with the case on. Although the display model in the store seemed touchy.
Thx, calling support to see what they suggest. I even got a big magnifying to look at the led to see if I missed taking the plastic off like on the camera, it was hard to see. So no plastic was on my led at all, bummer, need everything working if I sell for the DE, still thinking on this some more.
**called verizon again, spent about 3 hours today on the phone with 4 different people from verizon the. Sent me to Samsung and after doing what I have already done.
* clear cache
* clear data
* roll back updates
* factory reset
Was told I need to take in to Verizon for replacement.
Ended up after new replacement Note 4 was sent everything works great!
finger placement
hi guys try changing your finger placement for the SP02 and heart rate sensor to work. My sensors will only work with fingers placed as illustrated. The image on the left is placement for heart rate and the image on the right is for the Spo2. Hope this helps .
It's more to do with the right amount of pressure than the exact spot it seems. I find that the weight of the phone on your finger tip is the perfect amount of pressure for the sensor. I can get a reading every time without any issues.

Issue with fingerprint scanner

Hi,
I am using fingerprint to lock my device. The device was on the desk when my palm accidentally brushed the sensor and the device unlocked. I thought this was a one time issue but I am able to recreate the scenario with any finger or palm. I even asked my friend to test it out and it unlocked. All it required was just tapping the sensor and lifting immediately.
This is really concerning. Is anyone else having the same issue?
I am on stock ROM and unlocked bootloader.

Finger Print Sensor Problems Anyone?

Hello, fellow Nokia fans,
I have been using the Nokia 6.1 as my daily phone for the past 2 months, and it has all been a great phone except for the fact that the fingerprint sensor on this phone sucks a lot. Every time I try to unlock my phone using my index fingers it says something like partial fingerprint detected, try again.
It gets really frustrating at this point, the phone that I used prior to this was a Galaxy S6 which had a front facing fingerprint sensor, that made things much easier. Am I doing something wrong? Is the same issue bothering anyone else? Kindly help me in mitigating this problem.
TIA, Peace.
You can calibrate the same finger twice for more information for the sensor so it registers it more accurately.
I registered my fingerprint like I would register my fingerprint by habit. Now it works perfectly, and I have no complaints whatsoever.
Those in the US using fingerprints to unlock your phone (any device) be aware federal courts have ruled you CAN be compelled to unlock your phone with your fingerprint. You CANNOT be compelled to give up a password. The difference is something you are vs. something you know. Sure it is a pain to use a password/PIN, but think of all the personal information you carry with you in your phone.

you also have problem with fingerprint before you do register again? mine is only working when putting fingertip at center, unlike other phones like xiaomi that unlock fast and easy with any part of finger touching the sensor, I don't know if its the sensor smaller or it require more accurate scanning than other phones, it works but sometime hard to unlock when in rush or when finger is sweaty
In fact, this is the worst fingerprint sensor i have tried.
I have Nexus 6P, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and P10 with me
Nokia 6.1 fingerprint sensor keep showing partial detected when hand sweat, dirty or even normal case

Yeah, buddy even I fell the same thing, but someone suggested, registering the same fingerprint sensor slightly helps with the issue.

Yup, this does help out slightly
I did register 3 type of single finger, but still unrecognized in some case
Even the slightest amout of sweat and the fingerprint sensor fails. Thus I had to set up trusted face to make the unlocking process less painful. Unlocking this phone using the fingerprint is pain in the ass. I think the sensor area is too small that it fails to detect the parts of our fingerprints or it's not calibrated well.
I don' t mean to sound overly negative but the fingerprint sensor is next to useless unless you hands are completely dry and not sweaty whatsoever. The success rate is so low for me that I don't use fingerprint sensor on the 6.1 and went back to using a password - which is at least works consistently
i am using nokia 6.1 plus from past 1 year. the fingerprint sensor also works properly but the option of adding fingerprint suddenly gone right after updating the security update.. how to get it back? please help...

Note 10 plus fingerprint scanner issues

Got the phone few days ago. Most of the time, fingerprint works on first or second attempts. But now and then it takes 4-5 attempts. and on two occasions i had to try 8-9 times to get it to work. Is it a problem only i am facing or its a common problem? i already updated phone after buying. should i get it replaced or it will be ok with next update
Thanks.
common problem i think. not as fast as the previous one on N9
Well, it is not widespread or "common", some users complain about this, but this issue has been discussed at lenght since the first days of this device, do a search, you will find some useful tips, My sensor is very fast and accurate, I think it depends on several factors, temp, moisture, the way you registered the fingers, screen protectors, etc
Also, register the same finger multiple times... I believe you can add 5 fingerprints....
I understand what you are talking about. I was so frustrated with the phone when I first got it. I deleted all my finger prints and then set them up again. Make sure to slowly follow the fingerprint instructions when adding. I added multiple fingers and some more than once. I have not had any issues since. I have also read some people say remove the factory screen protector. I still have mine on with no issues. Good luck!

did you have the same issue as mine? like u had to make several attempts and sometimes even 8-9 times to make it work?
only time I've had problems with mine is when my hands have been extremely dry, putting slight moisture on my finger can make it scan better, but for the most part it works perfect unless I'm somewhere hot and dry.
I have similar issues when I have a screen protector on the phone. Sometimes I have to press multiple times, sometimes I have to press harder. Finally going without anything on the screen and the sensor works like a charm.
Screen touch sensitivity.
On my Note 10+ 5G (SM-N976U) I have a setting on the Display page (scroll down near the bottom) that increases touch sensitivity specifically for use with screen protectors. The screen itself is Gorilla Glass 6, which is twice as strong as Gorilla Glass 5, so, if you are the careful sort, you can get by without a glass protector. Even with an extra curved glass protector, with touch sensitivity turned up, I can use light gloves & still the capacitance works fine.
Touch sensitivity has nothing to do with the fingerprint sensor.
Mine works perfect with screen protector. Sure if you put new screen peotector, it takes time to recognise finger. But when protector sits perfect than no prob at all.

Mine drives me mad , adding finger prints mostly does not work , i cant record my thumb print at all , was wondering if the sensor is not correct under the screen ,its always hit or miss on my phone , with my wifes note 10 there are no problems

I'm missing the iris scanner from the note 9.
Might send it back and go back to the 9

the sensor works well as long as you don't have dry hands, lick your finger/thumb and it will work every time, sad but true. it's something I realise after it working flawlessly while drinking in a beer garden with condensed glasses but the rest of the time it was hit and miss. seems if your skin is too dry it doesn't read well, but add a bit moisture and it works perfectly. guess it has something to do with the technology in the new sensor using vibration instead of imaging.

Yes, lick your finger everytime you want it to work in the midst of a pandemic that seems to be spread by the virus getting transmitted from the hands to the face everytime you touch it...
You can also try this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/themes/fingerprint-speed-hack-t4071893
No need to lick fingers now...
Excellent advice from ultramag69, this mostly solved my problem, but I'm not happy with Samsung, This problem should not happen on such an expensive device from a famous brand

The other advice I've found is to set up multiple finger prints with the same finger (you can usually set 5 fingerprints). This will improve the hit rate of the fingerprint sensor...
