[Q] Root problem

Hi
So I just rooted my OUYA but there is a problem. Everything seems to work fine except for root file managers. Installed root browser but once I open it, it instantly crashes. Same with ES file explorer. With root explorer I manage to navigate, but once I click a file it crashes too.
I installed root checker and it confirms that the console is rooted. I tried everything (including re-doing the entire process) but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
It's probably the apps, not root. A lot of sideloaded apps aren't going to work (newest ES file explorer included) simply because they aren't designed for the Ouya.

Install Firestarter using ES File Explorer & then use FireStarter to Install TVMC ???
I have been reading so much amazing things about firestarter and now I'm ready to dive in. But I have a few questions....
1) Can I install FireStarter using ES File Explorer? If so, are there any guides/tutorials for this?
2) Once FireStarter is Installed, can I then use FireStarter to install TVMC? or do I have to install Kodi then use Fusion Wizard? Any guide/tutorial for this?
Thanks for any help you can provide !!!

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure TVMC is just a custom Kodi build. I'm assuming if you download the .apk it'll just install Kodi with the sources and add-ons.
The way i did it was...
1) Installed ES File Explorer
2) Installed Firestarter using ES File Explorer
3) Installed latest stable version of Kodi from FireStarter
4) Used Fusion/Wizard to install popular Add-ons (TVMC)
extremely easy

Click to collapse
for #2, you launch ES File Explorer
- Select "Add" from the options listed on the left side of the screen
- For the Path enter "https://github.com/sphinx02/FireStarter/releases" (don't include quotes)
- For the name enter "FireStarter"
- Click on Add
- Find "FireStarter" from the list of Bookmarks on the left side of the screen and select it
- This will render the Github web page in ES Explorer
- Highlight/select the FireStarter apk download link, this will download the apk and then open once prompted
- Click on Install
Just found a video that gives a step by step to install the FireStarter using ES File Explorer...

Easiest way is to create a LAN conexión to your pc or cellphone with ES file explorer, then copy files back and forth to your firetv/stick, there's tons of tutorial videos on YouTube on how to do this..

ES File Explorer Remote Manager problem

I'm using ES File Explorer on several android devices and for all but my P605 can see each other using the Remote Manager / FTP facilities within ES File Explorer. The P605 can see each of the other devices but none can see the P605. Has anyone else had this problem ? A solution to it would be most welcome.

ES File Explorer Premium Issue

I have a new fire tv and I enjoy it a lot. I use ES File Explorer to install some android APKs on my firetv. It used to work fine in the past. However, for the past couple of days, ES File Explorer has discontinued that option unless we upgrade it to premium. The premium version costs $9.99 per month and I don't want to go with such subscription model. Is there an alternative file manager that provides such option? I use downloader also, but it can't be used to install any APK that I want. Apps2Fire did not work either as I have hard wired my TV with an ethernet cable and my mobile is on a wifi network. Moreover, I use ES file explorer for some other options such as to access the cloud drive, mount external hard drive etc.
If the old version of ES File Explorer still offers the APK install option, that could be an option too. I just need to know from where and how I can get the old version installed on my firetv.

Thanks for your response.
However, Total commander on fire tv doesn't seem to allow installing plugins. Morever, I don't need the LAN plugin. I have a 1 TB Toshiba external drive connected to my fire tv which I want to mount. Total commander doesn't seem to recognize the external hard drive.
I have removed the latest version of ES File Explorer and installed a old version from Stream & Tech filelinked store and it is working perfectly.
Then just use es file explorer and keep the apk in a place where you can reinstall, uninstalling when you are done. This will save you memory that you need.
Install ES File explorer, browse to and install apk, uninstall es file explorer. EZ PZ.
Or (what I do and everyone else should) is download the apk from a mirror site, there are tons that have every single version of everything like Apkpure, Apkmirror etc. Set up an adb connection. Then you just have the apk files on your pc (or phone even) and adb install or adb uninstall without ever worrying about putting the apk to install on your device, or installing bloat software on a device that really shouldnt have it (kodi and small programs are enough).
I would suggest install an older version of ES explorer. There is a reason they were removed from the google play store. The latest update limits what you can do unless you pay $10 a month. Uninstall it and look for an older version on apkmirror and don't update. Solid explorer since decent, but it isn't optimized for fire TV.
Yeah I deleted ES and instead sideloaded CX File Explorer.
Google for "ES File Explorer_4.1.9.9.10.a.apk"
This was the last version on Amazon Fire TV Stick that didn't require premium to install.
I had the backup here is the attached file for FireTV Stick.
Try sideloading FX File Explorer and/or MiXplorer. For me, ES is long past expired.

Sideload apk not installing

Hi, I'm trying to install a sideloaded apk on my bravia tv.
It sideloads into the internal memory of the tv, so it's there to install. I've tried numerous apks such as es file, solid, etc to get it to install, but I'm always hitting the same brick wall message of "app cannot be installed".
There is no previous version of the apk installed, so it's not conflicting.
Has anyone ever seen this and found a solution? Thanks
Not all apps can be side-loaded, such as many of Google's apps. I managed to install Firefox ver. 67 but not any newer versions. Used ES File Explorer until I updated the TV to Oreo after which ES would not side-load anymore. Now use Astro and X-plore instead.
Have put my experiences with side-loading here: https://tinyurl.com/yx96hkuj Also check the previous version!
