Hello - LG G8 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone!
I wanna ask why lgg8s doesn't have a category like other phones?
Thanks!!

Because the only main differences are the camera setup, the display resolution and no Quad-DAC. That's not enough reasons to make a whole new forum for it since all the other components are still the same (which is the important part for rooting/modding/ROMs etc)

I think we have different problems at menu with lgg8 and lgg8s. For example i don't have choice for battery percental

2 smartphone questions

So Ive switched to a smartphone for various reasons from the wizard, and Im trying to at least get a couple things I was quite fond of into my excalibur.
First, I would love to see my contacts first name, last name. I noticed a few people raised the question, but I have yet to see a solution. Any help with this would be great.
Second, and infinitely more important, I desperately need a way to run some palm software (http://www.davideubank.com/ , important calculation charts for on set movie stuff) on the phone. I was using style tap on the wizard, but it was a bit buggy. If anyone know of any way to run this stuff that would be amazing.
Thanks guys, keep rockin.

Home screens for the Dash ?

Is there a decent source for some alternate home screens for the Dash ?
I know there are quite a few home screens for the Q out there, but I find that although many look very nice, they often don't work very well with the Dash. Specifically, they generally do not support a home screen option to jump/click to the Comm Mgr the way that the Tmobile Dash default does. Also many do not properly handled missed calls. And the color palettes end up being suboptimal for the Dash -- e.g. they can render the setup pages for Outlook almost useless.
So how about some Dash-specific home screens ? Otherwise I gather that I can hack my own by snarfing some of the Q images or other images from where-ever and piece together more Dash-appropriate XML from the default Dash home screen.
Try searching the forum, this has been extensively covered.
Dash Home Screens
Here is a link where I found some great home screens.

Thanks for your replies. Indeed I did do a search (even before posting ) but didn't really find what I wanted (perhaps I don't really understand). Mostly what I found were tutorials on how to hack screen files and otherwise pointers to sites with mostly Q screens, which all had the problems mentioned in my OP (i.e. various incompatibilities).
So... I hacked my own... I started with the included Dash default screen, T-MobileDefaultBlue because its the only one I knew that worked the way it was supposed to. I made minor adjustments with two main objectives: 1) I wanted to be able to see the time easily... not some teenie little font, 2) I wanted it to be compatible with most any background image (the default screen doesn't work well with background images at all). I threw in an indicator of voicemails. Here it is, if anyone is interested. It uses a background image "dashhome.jpg" so anyone can easily change the background image. I also made 2 other versions that use a black font and a blue font, in case those colors would be better with certain background images (snowy or sunny scenes). Hope this helps someone:
dashhome.home.xml
dashhome.jpg
dashblack.home.xml
dashblue.home.xml
One more, the version below makes the bottom button bar and other trimmings gray, which may be more neutral...
dashgray.home.xml
BTW, the default dashhome.jpg image, if anyone recognizes it, is of a "vortex" in Sedona, AZ...
You could go to MoDaCo. They've got some nice ones there, but you have to register.
~Cheers~
P.S. The way I have mine, people think it's the iPhone's cousin, .
You've been busy I think if you generalized your searches a bit (if you haven't already) you might find more if you look for 'landscape homescreen' than device specific. A good one to start with: http://www.kolumbus.fi/anders.ruohio/sp.html
With a modest purchase price, SBSH Facade opens a whole other class of homescreens: http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?showforum=57
One that I did a while back for my Dash (for use with Facade), along the lines of 'less is more': http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=14372

One thing I suppose I should make clearer... nearly all of these other home screens do not provide for WiFi status/CommMgr access (the Q screens for obvious reasons since it doesn't have WiFi). But that's one thing that I absolutely need -- I use WiFi on the Dash more than GSM. I guess that's why I had to hack my own...
Yes I know about Facade... perhaps later... I do like the "less is more" aesthetic...

Can we make it easier please?

Can I make a humble request to reorder the main page on the forum so that it lists the newest devices at the top and the oldest devices at the bottom....
It currently takes ages to scroll to the bottom of the list on a 4.3" touchscreen lol...
It's on the new admin's "TODO List".
I don't know what it will be, people are still banding about ideas, but in time there will be a new index.
Ta,
Dave
So all the rich people with their new expensive devices don't have to scroll, but us poor people with our 2, 3,4,5 year old devices have to scroll all the way to the bottom. Indignities upon indignities
You guys have the bigger faster screens, it's easier for you to scroll.
i suggest it to be indexed in alphabetical order so that there'll be no bias..
Alpha would be cool

Bookmark, maybe? Just sayin.
Alphabetising seems like a decent idea. But, then again, what of phones like, Elf and Vogue, that are essentially the same, except GSM and CDMA. Seems odd to separate the two.
We're working on this right now. You'll be able to not only filter the forum by Operating System and Manufacturer (coming soon), but sort by release date and other parameters (coming a bit later).
just remove G2 from hero and everything will be solved heheh just kidding
why don't you all use find (crtl+f) and start typing desired name/word/whatever...it is the fastest way to do it...imo
Maybe searching on size qvga, vga wvga etc and then alphabetic ....

[REQ] Android Like Screen Lock

Hello my dear friends in XDA-developers
My request is simple, and I think this might get some developers here interested.
As the title says, it's a screen lock application the Android way (i know there is quite some screen lock applications, but one more is never too much ).
Expected functionalty from the application can be with (but not stop at of course!)
- Screen protection against unwanted screen activty.
- Notifications (e-mail(multiple accounts!!!), sms, voice mail, mms, and missed calls)
- The ability to change the volume to mute without unlocking the screen (just the way does it on Android )
So, any enthusiastic developer care to jump at this request and fulfil it
sincerely and most thankful for the continuous support.
I thought about doing this last night.
There's already something out there that replicates the lock screen, it's called "ThrottleLock".
I'm not sure whether it has all the functionality, as you ask, but it's worth taking a look at.
Meanwhile, I am looking into developing for WM devices (mainly for the HTC HD2). I think I may do something like this as a little project.

Throttle Lock is already there as you say .. but it doesn't has the mute while locked functionality,
Also, it turned out to be a not-so-light lock screen. Its main function is pattern lock, for security, but I want the style .. not the security.
I have Xperia X1i, so there won't be a resolution difference between HD2 and X1i, but SEX1i doesnt have accelerometer, neither does it have proximity sensor
You can start your project knowing that there is ALREADY a tester ready ..
best wishes

JJ´s Hybrid 3.3 - Contacs and misc

After lurking for about 3 months on XDA and the Arc forum i finally found the nerve to go beyond just rooting and removing some blotware.
Compared to other hardware, Hifi, PC etc forums I found XDA really difficult as a beginner. There are a lot of guides/tutorials. However they all seem to require a basic understanding of android and the tools surrounding it. Every guide/tutorial I read, always resulted in more questions than answers. I constantly found my knowledge wanting as to fundemental functions of the different tools, drivers etc. Atleast for me, I was long and hard process before I felt comftortable enough to move on.
Anyway I finally found the nerve to unlock my boatloader, install a custom kernel and ROM.
For first time, it went incredible smooth. However I have som questions regarding the JJ hybrid ROM. Since I don´t have +10 posts. I will ask here instead of the developer thread.
- Contacs:
I exported all my contacs to SIM card and imported them again after I was done. However when importing my contacs it seemed to shorten/cut all the names of my contacs.
Is this a problem in this specific ROM or a general issue and what to do about it?
- Trebuchet:
I´m having some problems using some of the features in Trebuchet. I would really like to change the icons and increase the dock size to include more shortcuts. However nothing happens when I press the "Icon" and "Dock" under the Trebuchet menu.
Are those two functions just not working or is it a problem on my end?
Generally I find Trebuchet a little wanting in features compared to GoLauncher I was using before. Is it possible to install another launcher or will it mess up the ROM?
- Camera:
As far as I can tell the are no tweaks in JJ´s ROM to improve the camera/post picture processing and hence increase the image quality. Is there any ROM where this is included?
I think that was it for now. However, I´m sure more questions will follow as I dig deeper in to this ROM.
Thank you in advance.
I don't know about the rest but regarding your contacts, you should have exported them to your memory card instead of the SIM.
Saving numbers to the SIM is really outdated. You'd probably be able to save a maximum of 250 contacts i.e. One contact with a single number. I believe the name field is limited to 8 or 16 characters, so anything longer would be cut short. If you had two numbers for a contact, it would be saved as 2 separate entries.
This is not a limitation of the ROM but of the SIM card. And unfortunately, there's no way of retrieving all your contacts and numbers unless you had them synced with the Google servers.
