unable to select gallery photos as live AOD screen - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

i have a U1 S9 and it doesnt have the option for the AOD to have pics from the gallery in it

I don't think your able to change the wallpaper on the always on display, it's probably designed to save energy. You just need to set your lock screen wallpaper and set the screen to turn off after 10 minutes.

Just open gallery and pick any photo, click on the 3 dots button on the top right and you'll find "Set as Always On Display image".

thank you. i hadnt been aware of that way to do it, but i was able to find how to set a custom picture as the AOD image, but it was just one pic i could select. I ended up making a gif of several pics of mine, and that works for the most part. Im open to ideas tho. What i was expecting is a tool that lets you select one or many pics that the AOD will show in different intervals and will offer different styles when going from image to image

Yes you say is true, but my problem is not resolved.
When I'm Crop, the image will zoom. And image quality decreases.
I want to have a picture, I put the original size.
Please help
Not true, the picture quality will not go down. It will just take 960x800 form your picture if you select the maximum area. If you don't stretch the selection area to the maximum the quality will go down.

According to your talk , i cant see all of view in my background.hah?! yeS?!
That picture is just to small, if you want a picture without quality loss it needs to be at least 960x800.

Im not sure if ive understood the question correctly but if I have you can download a home launcher like LauncherPro and set it not to scroll your wallpaper when you slide homescreens, based on that crop and edit your wallpaper accordingly.

i wanna set Orginal Size picture , for my background....

Ive just looked at the picture, your basically trying to resize it (enlarge it) and so the picture becomes distorted. If you can find a larger version of the picture using a website like Tineye, i found you this one and CROP it, dont resize it so you can avoid distortion.

[Q] Wallpaper optimization?

Ugh...another Android device and more confusion about setting full screen wallpapers.
When I try to set a wallpaper - even with the correct resolution - it forces me to crop it. I used "wallpaper wizardri" for it in the past but it doesn't seem to work on the Note. So, what do I have to do to set the wallpaper I want to take up the whole device?
Thanks

Pictures sized at 1280x1280 do not require cropping/adjusting, the cropping windows that appears is optional, in case user wanted to choose oat of the image.
PS. The thread should probably be in Q&A

But isn't that image cropping off the corners? I think my issue might be that I have scrolling disabled. What would the resolution be for that?

if you mean the 4 sqaure parts at the edges, then yes, those are lost, but it's anaviodable as the wallpaper gets fitted both for portarait and landscape modes (the two rectangles on my previous screenshot).
If you have 1280x800 image, then it'll fit nicely inside the vertical cropping rectangle, but in the landscape mode only the middle part of the image will be utilized.

That makes no sense to me. The stock wallpapers are 1280x1280 and fit just fine. I've had numerous Android devices and I've got this working on all of them (mainly through the use of third party apps). My HTC One can do it right off the bat. I hate to bring the iPad into the equation - but that's another device that does it just fine.

You are right, I and messed up my previous post by being imprecise.
The situation I described applies only to lockscreen and launchers not supporting scrollable wallpapers (if such still exist).
Now the launcher wallpaper: for 1280x1280 images nothing will get cropped - the vertical rectangle just shows which part of the image will be on the home screen, remaining parts will be used for adjacent screens. If your image is smaller or not square, then you need the cropping window to adjust the image to your taste.
My apologies, can't explain it better than this.

Not your fault - we're just getting jumbled and things are getting lots in translation... I just want this to work, ugh! Even when they crop them - and technically I'm okay with that - they morph the images!

Your remark on morphing made me check again. Normally i have irregular wallpapers, with no easily identifiable parts, so to be sure I just made a screenshot and then set it as home wallpaper.
Adjusting mechanics works as it should, with the rectangles, squares etc., but to my surprise after adjustments the image gets vertically cropped, my guess is to some 960 pixels height. This would explain the morphing, but the secondary cropping is surely a bug.
PS. I attached two images:
- one is screenshot of this thread in xda app - looks normal
- second is screenshot of the first image set a home wallpaper - notice vertical cropping
Thanks for all your help man. I've been playing around with a download of the stock wallpaper and getting a feel for the cropping. For now I'm just going to suck it up and stick with texture wallpaper so it's not an issue. I'll keep trying...

Where are the special camera features???

I know I heard that night sight isn't available yet, but where is auto focus tracking, top shot, and live lens? Just got my white 128gb Pixel 3 XL and none of those features are present.

They all work on my phone.
Lens, is in More. To be honest, I'm not sure how to get top shot going, nor auto focus tracking in video...
You do the updates...go to camera app and select more?

auto focus tracking is done by tapping a subject on the screen.
night sight already works, check these forums.
top shot: Open camera app in your Google Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL, Now take a picture with your device, Now open the picture you took with your Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL, Swipe up the screen until you see photo details, Now move finger left or right until you see recommended. You can pick the recommended one as the best picture.
Lens is supposed to work in the regular viewfinder for the camera, not as a separate mode. Top Shot does not work. Super res zoom does not work. Anyone know what's up with these features?

Night sight is in a modded camera apk. I know all about that.
Interestingly enough, auto focus tracking only started working in the stock camera AFTER installing the modded camera apk (CameraP3) .
But still no super res zoom or top shot in stock camera on the Pixel 3 XL.

Top shot works. Make sure motion is on (not auto). Like someone mentioned above, after photo is taken view the photo and swipe up, you'll see a bunch of photos taken with the top shot selected.

With motion set to on, it works, but isn't anywhere near as intuitive as other videos I've seen. I have to click on the preview, then swipe up, THEN click on recommended shots, then I'm able to check out the top shots. I thought you just swiped up from the viewfinder and it immediately took you to the top shot of the last photo you took.

Yeah, I've seen several videos where they show just that; they take the picture and it's there, they don't leave the camera for the preview or any of that. Some editing going on there I guess. At any rate I had expected to find it in the camera app. Same with adjusting the bokah on portraits, I expected a slider in the camera screen, not having to switch to the preview and then fiddle it from there. In other words some reviews have led me to believe I could do it both during and after taking the photo. IMO opinion thats most def how it should be. Overall the camera app isn't as easy to figure out as with a sammy where you can figure things out just clicking around. I had to do an internet search to find out how to do the top shot.

Except it is. Make sure it is on and not auto, take a picture, click on the picture on the bottom right, then swipe up. You'll see a bunch of pictures from left to right (pretty small), you can either click on one, or slide one way. Trust me, it's there. I used it last night.
From what I see, the best quality overall picture is the one you initially see (the clearest + people smiling). However, I selected some different ones because I liked the way my kids looked better in some other shots. Overall, I really dig.
Yeah, we understand it's there, the comment refers to the idea that if you have to resort to an internet search to figure out how to turn on a headline feature in a camera app the camera app GUI needs improvement. Why would I expect I need to turn on a seemingly unrelated setting called "motion on" to turn on top shot which itself has no switch enabling it anywhere in the settings? Not exactly intuitive.

Ah, true. I didn't know until this thread myself. They need to add a button that says top shot I think.

Kinda disappointed with the N10+

Don't get me wrong, the phone itself is amazing.
There are just more software issues which are on Samsung.
The always on charging status which will burn the screen
The always on fingerprint while AOD is on which will also burn the screen
Lack of camera resolution settings (actual size of pictures on 4:3 are around 2MB?!?) and pictures are not good as on Note9 or S10
And the feature that I'm missing really much is swipe on fingerprint sensor to drop notification menu down, but on the other hand, face recognition works so damn fast that I don't even need fingerprint.
And speakers could be better, they are dull, without much base.
Hmmm,
I wonder about that possiblity of burning the screen
Yes speakers could be better
But what do you mean no camera resolution settings? I don't even see 4:3 in the options
I wonder if the AOD stuff moves slightly every so often to prevent burn in.
UPDATE: Fingerprint AOD moves slightly every several seconds. I haven't tested the battery charging one since I'm testing my battery usage and SOT so I don't want to mess with my charge cycle right now.

There is aspect ratio on the top when you are in the camera (4:3, 16:9, full and 1:1) but you can't change the resolution (MPxs) in the settings, so I'm just getting low quality 2MB pictures.
The possibility for burn ins is great, trust me.

I wasn't looking that much because I disabled it as soon as I saw fingerprint sensor enlighten.
The clock should move a couple of pixels each minute, but I can't confirm that. Sensor will stay there forever.

Resolution settings are in camera settings. You are not stuck with 2MP pictures.
You're worried about the fingerprint symbol burning in, but not the clock on AOD? Just set AOD to "tap to wake."
My speakers are super loud and clear. But at the end of the day, they are cell phone speakers. You can adjust sound quality by turning on Dolby Atmos and/or changing the equalizer.
As far as swiping the fingerprint reader to pull down the notification shade, why not just set home screen setting to pull it down on a swipe down?

I was wrong about one thing, you can NOT change MPs in settings. But it takes pics in 12 MPs on the rear camera, except the ultra wide angle, which is a 16 MP lense. The FFC is a 10 MP camera. Are you sure you're not talking about 2 MB? As in megabytes, the file size?
And again, if you're not worried about the clock on AOD causing burn in, then the FO scanner won't either. Now the charging status I agree with.

It seems that I do not have resolution settings. I shooted for over one hundred of pictures and not a single one was over 2.5MB, with compression disabled.
About AOD, we figured that both clock and sensor light are moving so that's fine.
About swiping down, that works on home screen only, not in apps or wherever you are.

2.5MB is about right for a 12MP JPEG file. That's the size they are on all my other phones. I have to take pics for work, then compress them down under 2MB to email them. Sometimes I don't even have to compress them, because at full quality they are already under 2.5MB.
And I understand your point on the swipe down. I never thought of that.

That's strange because on the Note 9, pictures were around 4MBs, never under 3.5MB with 4:3 and 12mpx.
My coworker still has Note 9 and we were comparing them, and pictures are bigger on his phone.
There is still hope for both FP sensor light and charging status once they update GoodLock I believe.

I stand corrected. When I check details in the Gallery, my 12.2 MP pics are between 3.5MB and 4.5MB.
That is weird then.
This may sound dumb, but the biggest gripe I have with this phone is the power button being on the left. I'm so used to it being on the right and touching there and nothing happens!
I also wish the power button was on the right side. I loved the phone once I turned on High Performance mode and changed the screen mode to Vivid. In camera settings, I also had to change the rear and front video size to UHD.
What I hate the most about this phone right now is how high the interference is on my daily routine since Wednesday. First night I got it I skipped the gym. Then boyfriend duties are getting neglected. Boss at work is asking why I'm not getting as much done. Smh

I'm on android 10 ,April security patch and Samsung updated ,One UI 2.1
If i use Spen option to screen shot it shows under screenshot image
If it's a swipe type screen shot,
it shows under the bottom option icons ,next to the scroll icon/edit icon
Otherwise only option left is to factory reset ..to hopefully fix issue !
Good luck
