LG G8 Amazon Model - Alexa activates on its own - LG G8 Questions & Answers

I purchased the g8 for 500 on Amazon, it's the model where Amazon apps and the assistant is preloaded and there is no dedicated assistant button. Otherwise same phone.
The problem I am having is Alexa seems to trigger by random noise in the environment even some videos trigger it.
Has anyone experienced this problem? In the meantime I've turned off the voice function.

Have the same Amazon model, haven't had any problems with Alexa yet, works like it should so far

I've never used the voice activation on the QM. I figured it would "get confused" if I were in the same room with another Echo device, so I turned that off and just push the widget icon on my home page. That way, you don't even need to say "Alexa". You just tap the icon , then you hear a tone and you just talk.

Couple of g3 questions from someone wrestling with an s5..

Hi all.
I was wondering if you may be able to help with some advice regarding the G3.
Here's where I'm at.. I've been using a loan g3 for a week and I love it.. That screen just blows my mind. I've tried the Xperia Z2, the. htc M8.. Neither of them match or even come close.
What I am finding though is there is one issue that really irritates me. The lack of being able to call up the voice mate software using the headset. It is impossible. To give you an idea of where i was before.. I used an iPhone 5S and A Galaxy s5.. I used Siri all the time and find S Voice to be brilliant. I drive a lot and also walk around a lot listening to music and I hate walking worth my phone in my hands in London. Total muggers target.
With the S5, you just press the headset call button for a few seconds and it brings up S Voice which then allows me to play music without looking at the phone. I can't believe the same functionality has been left out of the g3. I've been through all the menus and tried saying the keywords to bring it up and it doesn't work. Am I totally missing something or has LG dropped the ball here?
The only thing I can find that is close is to press the unlock button while the phone is in my pocket to unlock the screen and then use the headset button which does bring up Voice mate. But it then doesn't do anything until I press the onscreen button to complete my command. If I press the headset button again, it doesn't do anything.
Similarly, the S5 features a car mode which just works. It audio connects to my Bluetooth stereo and then opens itself and plays tunes just by me saying Hi Galaxy. I can't seem to find anyway of achieving this with the g3. It's a big thing because having to unlock the phone then find the software key then swipe up to voice mate means I take my eyes off the road which really isn't ideal.
Can anybody help? It may sound like an insignificant thing but this is a big thing to me and means I'll have to plump for the s5 even though my heart tells me I really want the g3 more.
Oh and how do you guys find battery life? Is there a way of emulating the extreme power saving mode brought to us by the likes of the s5 and HTC One m8 rather than the pretty paltry built in battery save app?
Thanks in advance.

You have to activate voice recognition on the lockscreen within voice mate settings and the app starts listening with the "LG Mobile" or "Hello Genie" hotword (whatever you've set from these two).
My battery life is pretty solid, around a day and a half with moderate (web, streamed music, some casual games,...) and through the whole day with heavy (web, music, high demand games,...) use.
LG's implementation of this is horrible on all of their phones; I have been trying to get this to work on my LG flex for 6 months and it just wont..
I might be confused but can't you just press the dedicated button on your earphones to start playing music? Why do you need to go through Voice Mate? Also, Google Now now supports voice commands for music playback as well. I believe that can be activated by long pressing the headset button.
I wanted to use voice mate to make calls, but, its absolutely worthless on the LG flex; it never recognizes a word you say..
Hope its better for you folks on the G3

Hi Japultra,
This is the thing.
There are three buttons on the headset. The main one just stops and starts music. Long pressing it starts nothing. It just sits there. Long pressing the volume down button launches the camera, and the same with the up button launching the note taking software. These are no changeable.
They don't launch VoiceMate OR Google Now.
I like to talk to my phone and tell it to play particular songs, then to call someone, then maybe play a song by someone else. Rather than having to walk down the street with my phone in my hand like a mugger's target doing it all the old fashioned way.

Is there no way to set Google Now to be the default on the long press of the button? Also, which parts of London are you walking through that's so dangerous? I live here and have never had an issue with my phone.

Not that I can figure out - but if you know a way, please share.
I walk through a lot of London. Granted, mostly between Knightsbridge where I work and Surrey - but that's not the point.. It just takes once for a phone to be snatched out of a hand and I switch between songs that often, it's so easy with S-Voice or Siri to just hit the cable. I can't believe the G3 has left this out. Seems potty.

LG G4 Voice Mate

This Voice Mate app on my LG G4 for AT&T is driving me crazy. I can't listen to music in m car without this thing popping up and causing PowerAmp to pause, skip, and stop. I looked around and found on some other threads that people purchased TIBU Pro and used the Freeze option. Does anyone know of any alternatives before I decide to buy this app? I really want to get rid of Voice Mate, but I'd like to know what other alternatives may be available. Thanks.

I am. I downloaded TiBU and I was able to stop that program from coming up whenever I plug an auxiliary cord in. Now the Google app is doing what Voice Mate was doing so I'm guessing I should do the same thing with this too.

Alexa Media Voice Control on Android Devices - Aberto Sonorus

This is a new project and I would like to get feedback on it before sharing more widely. Any comments/suggestions would be great. Thanks!
Overview
Aberto Sonorus is an Android application/Alexa skill combination that allows you to perform basic launch and media control commands on your Android device through voice, no additional hardware required.
Once set up, you can use your voice to launch/close Android applications, set the device volume, or trigger play/pause/next/previous/stop commands on any application that listens for media button commands.
It can be used in combination with Alexa smart home routines. In my case, I use the command “Alexa, watch Netflix” to turn on the TV and receiver, lower the lights, turn on my NVIDIA Shield TV and launch the Netflix application on the device. I have similar commands for Amazon Video, Pandora, Plex, and others.
Features
Designate any launchable Android application as a target (not just media playback)
Set up through the companion Android application
Supports mobile and Android TV
Designate the device (e.g. “Shield”) as an additional target
Wake up the device and/or launch the application
“Alexa, turn on Shield”
“Alexa, turn on Netflix”
Set the volume on the device
“Alexa, volume up on Shield”
“Alexa, set the volume to 5 on Shield”
Play/pause/stop media playback
“Alexa, play on Shield”
“Alexa, pause on Shield”
“Alexa, stop on Shield”
Advance to the next/previous playback item
“Alexa, next on Shield”
“Alexa, previous on Shield”
Setup
Enable the Alexa skill and account link with your Amazon account: https://alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html#skills/dp/B078W199Z3
Install the Android application on your target device(s): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.willblaschko.android.abertosonorus
Launch the application and log in with the same Amazon account
Assign a name for the device (e.g. “Shield”)
Select which applications you want to be targetable (click on the pre-filled or the plus symbol to add more)
Tell Alexa to find new devices (“Alexa, find new devices”)
Alexa should have discovered new devices, test by saying: “Alexa, turn on <Application Name>”
Additional Options
As stated above, the power for this comes by combining it with smart home routines or other automation.
If you don’t have a device with Alexa, you can use my application (or others like it) instead.

It currently is US-only, I could probably spin up a UK (DE, etc.) version over the weekend and hopefully get it certified quickly. Let me look into what it would take.
Amazing, thanks very much!!

Giving this a try. number 4. Assign a name for the device....Alexa only discovers the apps I select such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, it does not discover my Shield as a device.... My shield is connected via Ethernet, could that be why alexa isn't discovering it? Cool idea....would love to get this working.
thanks

Let me look into this, this sounds like a code issue and not a connection issue. In the meantime, you should still be able to say "Alexa, pause on Netflix" etc. as long as one of the target applications is named.

I would suggest setting up a smart home routine as a workaround. One of the actions is perform an action on a smart home device. Alexa gets picky around names that could be associated with skills. So for me, my "Alexa, watch Netflix" launches (turns on) the Netflix application and turns on my TV.

Update works. Shield now shows up in devices. Turning on shield works as well as turning on apps such as Netflix. This may be intended, but "Alexa turn on Shield" turns on shield and launches Amazon Video...should it not come up in the Shield Home Screen. "Alexa turn off Shield" doesn't work. Great work though...This is pretty cool! thanks for all your hard work.

I added a UK version (just published) but haven't been able to test. Let me know if you run into any issues.
This app is fantastic!
One thing I notice is the volume changes the tv volume instead of the receiver that's connected through my ir blaster.
Also if it's possible for the tv device to be setup as a media player I think it could send the play and pause through the ir blaster what do you think?
Thanks for the UK version! Unfortunately the app crashes before it even loads up. Seems to be a problem at my end as my other shield will load it up ok, but isn't the one I want to control. I will have a play around and see if I can work out what's going on

I see one crash report, it looks like it's due to Do Not Disturb being set as on for the device. Regardless, I'll try to make an update to fix the crash since that's not expected behavior.

Just pushed a fix to the Alexa Skill, let me know if you still see this issue

LG G8 Sound issue

I'm on my third LG G8 that I got here in Dallas from T-Mobile. All three phones have been acting the same way. I've even talked to LG Technical Support and they're clueless.
Music stops playing on the phone randomly. Videos on the preinstalled YouTube app play in slow motion with no sound.
I've rebooted the phone and sometimes the problem goes away and sometimes no. LG tech support told me how to put the phone in safe mode and using the built in music app, music plays. I can then switch back to regular mode and music plays again until it doesn't. On the first LG G8 I had, I reset it back to factory defaults to clear out the problem but it came back again. And then I reset it again without loading any of my apps but the issue returned. I showed the problem to T-Mobile store reps and they agreed with me that the phone was malfunctioning. I had to mail my phone in to T-Mobile because of the way I purchased it. I got an exchange. They let me buy a temporary LG G8 in that store until I got a replacement. That LG G8 also quit playing music randomly just like the first phone. I returned that phone after my replacement LG G8 showed up but this one is behaving the same way. LG wants me to send the phone in for repair. I'm reluctant.
Usually the problem starts after the phone has been connected to a Bluetooth device; headset or my car stereo. After disconnecting the device, the problem doesn't go away. Other phone "noises" won't come back either. I can avoid the problem in my car by connecting it to my stereo's USB cable and Android Auto kicks in. But even after disconnecting, the problem is still present.
Hopefully it's an isolated incident and doesn't affect all phones as I've just purchased an US T-Mobile version.
Did you try using 3rd party apps to see if the issue persists? Maybe it's just the stock Music player app that is glitched out.

I've thought about that. I like to play Hill Climb 2 {Stunticons team} and sometimes the game will give you a freebe by watching a video ad. And I've noticed when my sound is screwed up, the video ad plays in super slow motion just like videos in Youtube and there's no sound.

I have wondered if my phone is coming from a bad batch from my local T-Mobile warehouse. I've owned the LG G6 and G7 and I had no major issues like what I'm dealing with now. Today was a good day and the sound gave me no trouble.
I'm really sorry this is happening to you, LG should do more to help. It seems isolated, my Tmo G8 works as expected, aside from what I believe are Pie related frame rate issues.
Does it happen only with streaming, or also with locally saved files? Are you always using Bluetooth for the sound? Not that I can help fix it, just very curious what's causing it.
I do notice that when my phone connects to my car stereo's Bluetooth that's when my trouble begins but it doesn't go away after disconnecting. I noticed today it happened when one of my hi-res songs started to play.
This is really interesting as I am about to return mine to LG. My phone will lose it's ability to use the hearing "speaker" against my ear..and get this...it happens only after I have connected to my car bluetooth. I factory reset, all is well, and the first time I use my car bluetooth it happens again and it stays. I have a phone that I cannot use without either speakerphone or a bluetooth device in order to hear whom I am talking to. I like this phone and want it to work out, but......I hope LG makes good on the warranty! BTW, I have T-Mobile and bought the phone outright from Amazon separately.
On my T-Mobile (unlocked and using a different provider) G8, I have issues with both the native music app and Amazon unlimited online streaming. Both will randomly play the first song again from the beginning of a shuffled list. Happens randomly and repeatedly. Most often after like 4-7 songs in the player will start from beginning, and it happens with both Bluetooth and headphones. Any ideas? Running 9 with October 2019 security update.

Mirroring issue (sound) with Google home

Hi all,
I have a Nvidia shield TV with built in chromecast which works perfectly.
I could always cast directly with YouTube or whatever or use googles home app for mirroring video and audio when I wanted something that does not have build in cast option.
This has always worked with my opo1, opo3t, opo5 and my wife's Samsung s10.
Now with my rm5g I can cast when there is a cast option in the app flawlessly.
But the issue I have is when I try to cast/mirror with Google home.
Some how when I start mirroring everything works BUT sound keeps also coming from my mobile as well. If I lower volume or silence on mobile, it silences it on my shield as well.
The sound should be handled on my shield only and not on both devices, since now I need to have 100% volume on phone and duplicated sound on TV..... That's not what I want and it never needed this.
Normally you only have the mirrored video/chrome/etc in screen but no audio on your phone.
Is there a setting I'm missing on my red magic 5g? Or is this a flaw in the phone/software?
Does it work with you guys? For example mirroring a video on Chrome with Google home mirror function.
(ps, I have already looked in the home app, my shield TV and my phone but I can't find a solution to have the audio only on my shield. / I have not touched any settings when I changed my mobile from one plus 5 to red magic 5g / it still works perfectly on my opo5 and my wife's Samsung)
Nobody has this issue or have tried if it worked?
Just to add on the above info, reboot, factory reset was not helping.
I noticed the same issue with my Red Magic 5G, but unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. I think this is something only Nubia can fix.

So your Google nest works fine, you don't have "double" audio then?
Kinda weird.
During the last days I've tried casting with my chromecast receiver on my other TV, a TV in my office and at a friend's place. Same result btw.
So it's not in the hardware of chromecast or Nvidia shield. It has to be in the red magic.
No double audio on my 3 devices. ??
I do have doubles displayed in the device cast menu but it doesnt affect anything.
I would like to bump this again to see if anyone else have this problem and a possible fix?
In the mean time my red magic had a software update, Google home updated a few times, my Nvidia shield had a software update.
I kinda hoped that 1 of these would fix it but I am still left with double audio. Right now my only solution is to cast what I want with audio on the phone and put my phone in the kitchen with the door closed so I won't be bothered by the double audio.
It's not really convenient....
Could anyone assist me?
Ps, tried a full reset on my 5g,no luck either.
