good VPN+ad-blocking - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hello guys am looking for a good ad-blocker that blocks adds pretty much everywhere internet, apps like twitch games etc. i been using BLOKADA for a while and i really enjoy it but i would like to use a VPN at the same time and this is something BLOKADA cant do at the moment. and yes i know BLOKADA now has their own built in VPN but it only has 3 gateways and cant stream Netflix. if you guys have any VPN with a build in ad blocker like BLOKADA please let me know or any VPN that works with an ad blocker doesn't have to be two in one i dont mind having 2 different apps if need it thank's in advance.

I use adguard. Has a few customizable settings in case you want to block some things but free up others. Not sure how much it costs though. I remember someone linked to the russian site where you could buy a lifetime activation for a fraction of the US price and i jumped on it. But blocks pretty well, i've forgotten what it is to browse or play games with ads at this point. Just a suggestion

Are there any ads in particular that are taking a particularly long time to load? Please provide a screenshot if so. We hate ads that slow down the site too!
Theres a lot more flash that usual. Small price to pay, I figure. Im not exactly on the top donations list. Quality versus quantity is the point, I think.
No specific ads
The XDA page header loads.
Then beige nothingness for about 30 seconds or so while "connecting to ad4.netshelter.net".
I assume something eventually times out, and the rest of the page loads.

Thirty seconds is very long! Where are you located? Also, please benchmark your bandwidth at speedtest.net and paste the graphic result here.
I'm also experiencing this! I'm located in the Netherlands with Ziggo as provider. Sometimes about 30 seconds is correct. I'm also getting this a lot with media.xda-developers.com and pubads.g.doubleclick.net.
This is not always the case btw. Also it's not my internet connection because every other site loads just fine. Also the connection is 120/10 Mbit.
I'm using an Android tablet to access the forums and the Best Buy adds are making the site extremely annoying to use. I have to click on the add since I don't have flash automatically loading them, then I have to click on the "x" to close the add. It didn't use to be this bad but now it is happening on almost every page.
Yeah, Im getting tired of the ads all over the site. I am REEEEEAAALLLYY tired of the ones that are popping up from the bottom and block the forum until I click on the X to close. Now some dont even have that close option.
Right now its that stupid best buy buy back program ad.
As a donator I think they really need to go XDA.
You can disable the shockwave flash object in your internet settings, but then you still have this stupid box with a red X that floats around the middle of the page because it cant load.
If the mods need it, here is the (shortened) link for that ad....http://dcom.me/cD9wm
We hear you guys and are working on getting the annoying Best Buy ads disabled. It's a constant battle between paying the bills and not annoying users. We do our best to err on the side of not annoying the users, but sometimes we make mistakes. Thanks for understanding.
I don't mind ads, but the best buy ad at the bottom of the page is horrible. It actually keeps the area at the bottom of the screen from being "clickable", even when you close the ad.

I understand the ads, and I'll click on them every once and awhile to help out, but that best buy one is very aggravating.
i agree with this! i feel as if we could make the ads on this site load alot more conveniently.
I notice that the Best Buy ad at the bottom is gone, thank you!
I don't mind the ads but that Best Buy ad was seriously driving me insane! lol Thank you!
Best Buy ad should be officially removed. Let me know if it anyone sees it.
Thx!

Thank you very much! All is well again.
A prime example of the damage that one bad ad and/or one slow ad delivery server can cause. I wonder how many people downloaded AdFree or AdBlock Plus or added a line into their hosts file tonight all because of a lousy Best Buy ad and a slow server halting progress on the page.
Is there any procedure in place for vetting new ads before they are served to this site? I get that the idea of an ad server is to exist in the background so that publishers can focus on the content, but is there any way to specify formats, types, and other parameters of the ads served here? If NetShelter was serving that Best Buy ad to all its tech publishers, there were probably a lot of pissed off users tonight across the network.

Often it's hard to control the adverts you see on a site.
I use ad blockers on a number of sites, but more for giving me a "stripped down" experience on slow loading sites...
There is usually little control over what adverts you show, since it is the ad agency that does the placement of the adverts, and you use code that "includes" whatever advert they choose.
When it comes down to it, if needed, the code can simply be removed, which is what I believe was done in this case.
I have only worked with ad solutions that give me fixed control over the parameters and appearance of the adverts, so I don't know how this one worked.
I use AdBlock Plus and ad blocker add on for Firefox. They work great and block 99% of pop ups.

MetroTube is out!

I think Microsoft should stop fighting Google over their YouTube app and just fund these guys as they're making an amazing job.
The trial is fully functional but really they deserve to be paid for what they get you.
Enjoy

While I do love lazyworm, MS should never stop fighting as there is still no way to select which app is the default YT launcher and I'm sick of copy pasta. Plus its just crappy business practices on Googles part.
Just updated. Its great , but it seems like they're trying too hard to copy the Android App.

it makes no sense that I must download the fake YouTube app just to launch videos posted on websites.
Nice, it didn't update itself and now I have to pay for it again...
Edit: nevermind, it works now like it should

Actually you're right. That said, if they do get the green light form Google I would like them to fund Lazyworms and integrate it as an official app rather than starting from scratch. At least Lazyworms gives the app full support, the same cannot be said from whoever did the official twitter and facebook apps for instance.

are you serious? This is almost a replica of the Android YouTube app. Which is great, Metrotube offers more widgets/tiles.
I like how the subscription tile shows pictures instead of a number. I just don't like the heart, but I'll live with it. Also like how I can read comments and watch the video, reminds me of Android. Good update. They even responded to my questions.

Actually I've just picked up my girlfriend's Nexus S and MetroTube is nothing like the Android YouTube app except maybe for having comments just below the video. Very odd that we don't see it the same way
Metrotube is nice about the best 3rd party app I have. This thing runs so smooth, you would think it was built into the OS

I would love to pay to buy this apps but my country is still currently not supported by MS in marketplace and Zune, would not like a fake address live id approach, and would like LazyWorm to have another payment channel like moBudget (pay with paypal and download the trial version and it will work like the paid version...)
Forget it. All players seem to have a portrait video player with the ability to swipe left and right while the video still plays. They seem to have came up with the same idea on different sides of the earth.
Lazytube portrait mode didn't allow reading of comments while watching a video, the video played but you couldn't read and watch at the same time. This update made it possible to read and comment just Like another famous player. Yeah, its nothing like that other player though, I'll be blind.

i would really like to hear it from MS and google about what disagreement they are having. MS is bringing youtube to Xbox. So Google is not completly blocking them out. If google is blocking just for WP, isn't it abuse of market leadership? Google is already under fire for such behavior, I don't believe that's the case.
If anyone has links to any good, accurate information, please let me know.
Having said this, Metrotube is amazingly well done app. It deserves the name Metrotube as it beautifully adheres to metroUI.
Just downloaded this. Much better looking than the HTC Youtube (not that I complained about it).
Does anyone know if the free trial actually expires? Does it have all the features of the paid version? Perhaps the benefits to purchasing is gaining access to updates?
^ who knows. No one ever gave a definitive answer. I'll take metroTube anyway.
It probably is Google though, as there is absolutely no Google apps on this OS. However you have to look at the direct competition to Google which is Bing. So, its complex.

As far as I'm informed there are no limits or registrations. Trial and paid version are currently absolutely identical. You should be able to receive updates as well. The only "limitation" about the current offer is: it won't last forever. Means if you want the full app for free, better get it now.
But honestly, I'd pay those $0.99 anyway (if I hadn't already done it months ago). In my opinion LazywormApps deserve a lot more than that.
I looked up the youtube API restrictions... I think this might be the reason
What can I do if I'm running into quota limits?
The following information may help you to avoid exceeding quota limits:
•The quota system ties API usage to a specific developer key, which means your application is less likely to be flagged for quota violations if it specifies a developer key in its API requests.
•Different types of API operations count differently toward quota calculations. Generally, you can make more frequent HTTP GET requests to retrieve data than POST, PUT or DELETE requests to modify data.
•Your application should avoid making API requests that do not originate from user interaction. For example, continuous requests that are a part of a background synchronization or bulk import process are likely to trigger quota violations.
If the API does return a quota violation error, your code will need to detect the error and handle it appropriately. we recommend that you stop all API calls from your application for 10 minutes to "reset" your quota. When you resume making API calls, scale back on the frequency of your requests.
If you are still running into the quota limits within these guidelines, and you feel that the quota is throttling legitimate traffic from your site, please contact us.

So I think Google is not willing to remove the limit for MS. If MS makes a dafault Youtube client, it is very likely to hit the limit as all WP users will be using it rather than other apps like Metrotube.
Other than that, I didn't really find any other restriction in the API.
The description in Marketplace says that the paid version supports HD video streaming. I'm guessing the trial is HQ only.
That said, my Focus seems to stutter even on HQ :/ Anyone else have that issue? Maybe I've dropped it one too many times, heh.

How safe is Kodi and Genesis?

I tested Kodi and Genesis add on today. It was amazing. Im wondering how safe is it?
1) Does anyone here ever received a letter from ISP for using Kodi/Genesis?
2) Did you guys use the real amazon account to register/signin to FireTV? I don't want my amazon account to get banned for using Kodi.
Maybe i'm a little paranoid but i just want to make sure.
Thanks in advance.

If you do not want to recieve letters from yor ISP stop usng torrents. Production companies are monitoring torrent siites and turning peope in when their IP address has been found to have downloaded illegal material. Lots of people think that VPNs will stop them from getting caught which is not true at all, cause even VPN are being traced and VPN companies are even turning people in. So basicaly if you do not wanna get hasseled with the six strike alerts, stay away from torrents. I do not use Genesis, but if its torrent based leave it alone. I have never got an alert, but everyone I know that has gotten one is a heavy user of bittorrent sites.
Why? What's the problem? What are you doing wrong? Don't even look into ivue if you're that sccared

Question#2 is a little much IMO.
As for the first one, I've never received a letter from my ISP for streaming movies. While you are technically downloading pirated content, you're not storing it to redistribute, share, copy etc. I'm not certain the laws have caught up to that in all parts of the world. Try downloading popular torrents and I guarantee you'll get a warning before long.
Look into a fast quality VPN service. Nothing is foolproof but as far as I know an SSL encrypted connection is nearly impossible to trace. Still, you need to trust the VPN service that they don't keep records and can protect their users. It makes perfect sense they would because all it'll take is a few horror stories and they'll be out of business but even a slight risk is still risk.
Agree with KLit75: the legal focus is on downloading pirated content, where the US laws about ownership are clear; streaming content isn't clearly illegal in the US so it seems it's being left alone, presumably because it would difficult to prosecute. As torrents are very popular for downloading, they are well monitored by copyright watchdogs.
Genesis is not torrent-based so it is theoretically safe: in practice, I have been using a variety of non-torrent-based streaming solutions for years, never had a legal problem.
On the other hand, Popcornflix and Pulsar are both popular and torrent-based: I don't touch them.
Been using Genesis since it came out on twc at two different cities. No letters yet

Er, what is ivue? :silly:
Ok this is a little late but wanted to add my 10 cents worth of info.
I was using Kodi with Gen and I have received letters from my ISP. But for movies I haven't downloaded or even watched. Pages of them,
I tried a few different things to stop the leak of my IP but to no avail. Only after I unplugged my fire stick and stopped using Kodi did they stop. I have fixed the issue using a vpn box from betternet. I'm sure you can find other ways to block your IP but thats what I found. And I never download torrents or movies just use kodi.
Come in france, it's not illegal the streaming
(in france kodi's work is like streaming)
Same is true in Germany... For now at least.
Jail brokeour fire stick andourisp thoughtits a smart TV and asked what brand it was they couldn't tell and we use real debris and use torrents daily on the firestick and android box...

The ads on this site are crashing my browser

You have huge animated ads all over every page. That is a very poor way to optimize a web page. I have a low end gaming rig and it's powerful enough that I should be able to browse the web. Yet this site crashes all my browsers. Also I refuse to use adblock because it spits viruses causing popups into chrome which make me have to reinstall chrome. However when I did have it installed other than the random mouse click popups it caused the site worked fine. I know you need to make money but it's not easy to make money if you are making a slow website that causes issues when trying to navigate the site. You don't have to have gigantic poorly animated banners all over the site that are honestly rough on the eyes. Thus making me look away from the ads. Please! please! please! Optimize this site better. This is why people use ad blocking software! Thanks. =)

Question How to block Ads in OnePlus without root!?

Suggestions other than using blockada app.
adguard, adaway VPN mode or private DNS
I am using next DNS service. It is customizable, so you can turn on or off lists, add things to white list etc.

And how to use/enroll that?
Register on nextdns.io, than you can set up which lists you want to enable. In your profile you also get address to use in private DNS option on your phone.
If you use that option all your traffic goes through nextdns, so it blocks out ads and robots on websites, but also on installed apps.
There is one disadvantage - it is free only for limited number of queries - more than enough for me, but some really heavy users may not find it enough. Nevertheless it is so worth to try if it works for you. Even so I have my devices rooted I don't yous Adblock etc, preferring nextdns.
If I helped you, you can use my referral link do register: https://nextdns.io/?from=ydnp2mzn . It doesn't cost you anything
Oh wow, thanks! Will check it out
Why do all forget the most important thing about DNS/VPN? Privacy!
All your traffic is routed over a unknown server. You have no control over your data! If you want use such a service, use your own. If you have a good router at home, you should be able to run a VPN server on it. In combination with Pi Hole, you have your own private and ad free VPN.
Mobile -> VPN -> Home -> PiHole -> Net
