Mate 20 X CN version with global rom? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Can this be done?... Because some vendors on Aliexpress are giving an option to have the global rom installed before they ship it out. I guess my question is, are they really installing the global rom, or just installing the google play store?

My guess is they would just install Google Play Store app.
Rebranding is nearly impossible and currently there is no established and supported procedure to rebrand the AL00 to L29.

I also saw that on Ali. Asked seller, not answered. Must be just play store (maybe some more Google apps to add, trivial). For 50usd, no sense...

Shame you can't rebrand. Anyone know the main reasons why?

i agree with the comments above, it might just be the google apps so people wont be shocked with all china stuff and no google.
rebranding needs the bootloader to be unlocked as i understood from the forum which cant happen now since huawie locked it
but would you actually buy a phone while then open it ? how would you know that its actually new and they only installed google for you ? o_o

Nokia N1 identification and Flashing Taiwan Firmware Help please!

Hi guys,
So i would love to purchase a Nokia N1 but it seems that the Taiwanese version is ultra rare and I really need google play services.
Anyway I have been looking on the forums and its been a long time since I have flashed anything and I am a bit scared about all the horror stories of bricked N1's and the lack of very clear noob guides on how to convert to Tawienese firware and actual have it working without issue.
Can any one tell me if it is worth purchasing the chinese version and will I actually be able to get it play services working or is it too much of a hassle for a noob and still too unstable when flashed?
I also wondered if the packaging label for the taiwan model differs from the chinese model? Is the Taiwanese model manufactured in Shenzhen or in Taiwan?
I have a picture of the label of the one I was going to purchase but I think it may be chinese version....
Any info and help identifying it would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks
ship with Android 5.0 can flash Taiwanese version even if it is Chinese version.
I cannot recommend at buying Nokia N1. Device itself is fantastic but I cannot say the same about software. If you get the Chinese version with Android 5.1.1 (very likely) there is no way to downgrade it to previous 5.0 Android version that can be rooted. Without root there is no Google Play. There are some guides how to downgrade 5.1.1 version to 5.0 but you will only brick your device if trying any of those methods. There is almost zero community support for Nokia N1 and because of this I don't believe we are ever going to see a root for newer Android 5.1.1 version.
If you need Google Play (Android device without Google Play is a crap) please do yourself a favor and buy something else like Samsung Galaxy S2 8.0

Thanks for the info. I ended up finding a real nokia N1 on eBay from taiwan with Googleplay services installed, so all good. Don't need root so think I will just update normally through OTA. Should be OK I think. I agree chinese one looks like too much hassle.

My friend ordered chinese instead of global -.-

So my friend said he wanted a redmi note 5 pro so i said its a great phone however not thinking he would order 1 in an instant 3 days later i told him dont forget to buy the global version but it was already to late the phone was on shipped so im getting his login details to contact the seller to see if its not to late to cancel but i have a few questions.
So i know the only difference is the frequency bands but that shouldnt be an issue i live in holland and here the operators use 3 and 7 and some operators use 3 , 7 and 20 so with some operators he would only miss band 20 so that wouldnt be a huge problem.
But the phone has chinese firmware no multilanguage and nno google playstore or at least it says so in the description do i need a custom rom or could i flash miui global rom and gapps without the need of a custom rom because my friend is not very techie and i think for him it would be best to keep on to a original rom. (he doesnt know what a rom is).
Thanks in advance.

Just help your friend and unlock the bootloader. Flash the global rom afterwards and it will be fine.

I have the chinese version and I live in the EU too. There is a way to install play store and google play services on the chinese rom. Here is a very nice tutorial on how to do that. Also, you can delete most of the chinese bloatware, but not all.
I am currently running LineageOS and thanks to the great developers it's pretty stable and working well, but if your friend is not very techie, as you say, it would be best to skip the bootloader unlocking and stick to the chinese ROM. I don't think that it will make much of a difference.

Buying advice

So im thinking about buying a mate 20x!
As im in Hongkong i have plenty of options to consider:
1: used one (store) for 2700hkd , global. Mint condition, dont know about battery though... Could be bad, because its been on the charger constantly?
2: new global, 4700hkd,
3: new chinese, 128gb, 3700hkd.
(1000hkd is roughly 100€)
I was thinking about getting the chinese Version, because its cheaper. Also i like to tinker around with open bootloader and custom roms. Is there anyone out there though that could get Banking apps to work? (Magisk?) Does Google Pay work on the chinese version?
Is it possible to completly transform the cn version into global, with an open bootloader, so i dont run into annoying problems everyday with google services?
Or maybe just a complete custom rom?

In your situation, I would go for the Chinese, new. For that price, it worths every cent.
Periodically you can get boot unlocked code. Then you will be able to install global 2.2 rom, magisk incorporated: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ma...-mate-20-x-global00ized-2-0-emui-9-1-t3920956. It's 9.1 beta. As long as you stay rooted (magisk) you can have Google Pay operational with this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/magisk-google-pay-gms-17-1-22-pie-t3929950.
But you may never have Q10 and beyond. Nor even 9.1 beyond beta. Huawei has implemented a new memory system erofs and installed the system as read only. There are some promising attempts to break through though.
I'd get the Chinese version local. I had the AL00 and had no problems with Google play services. For the price, I wouldn't worry about the battery too much. This phone has a couple mAh to spare....

Can I Install Global Version L29 on Chinese Version?

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about buying a chinese version of the mate 20x for cheap, much cheaper than the global version. Was wondering if its possible to buy it and then install the L29 global rom. Is this possible? If so how?
.
Not sure if possible, but i dont recommend to change the original rom.
Appreciate the reply. But since youre not sure, does anyone know if its still possible to do this?
From what I understand (reading this forum), this requires unlocked bootloader and root.

Hi.. thanks for the reply. How do I unlock the bootloader?
.
Buy Chinese version with global rom. It raises price just about 35 to 50 dollars.
My suggestion

But thats the problem I want to avoid. I want to buy the chinese version without having to pay for the global rom so that i can install the global rom myself.
I will save you some trouble. I made the mistake of buying the Chinese version because I assumed the bootloader could be unlocked and the phone could be flashed. The answer to your question is, "no - you cannot root or flash the Mate 20 X as at this time".
Huawei has locked all bootloaders for all their devices and are no longer offering unlock codes. I have been unsuccessful in unlocking my EVR-AL00.
There are a few threads in this forum and there are developers looking for a workaround but there are none at this time.
I wanted to post a quick follow-up on my previous post. The Mate 20 X Chinese version is the first non-root phone I have owned in more than 10+ years. I will say, unlike my Samsung and OnePlus phones I have not found a need for root beyond changing the default launcher. The phone is customized so you can manage DPI settings (in and outside developer mode), auto launch/keep apps running in the background and even includes a good equalizer. If you have any specific questions about the Chinese model of the EVR-AL00 then feel free to PM me. I'm happy to try answering questions.

Hi dogatemycomputer,
Appreciate the heads up. But regarding rooting the mate 20x, there are threads here that show that you can root it and flash twrp. Am I missing something?
.
Yes.
Regarding XDA’s stance on Huawei’s decision to stop bootloader unlocking
Back in April, Huawei’s form to request a bootloader unlock code mysteriously disappeared. Late May, the form returned but with a warning that the service would no longer work after 60 days. As promised, Huawei’s form is no longer available, meaning it’s no longer possible to unlock the bootloader of Huawei or Honor devices. This has obviously been disappointing to many users on our forums, but it’s been especially disappointing for us, the XDA Portal team.
https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-huawei-decision-stop-bootloader-unlocking/amp/
Basically you could unlock the bootloader until May when Huewei decided you could no longer.

If you truly had read and understood threads about this, you'd know that unlocking the bootloader is no longer possible. Huawei shut this down, unfortunately.
I researched this before purchasing, as I too wanted the least expensive version which allowed changing the default launcher. The only solution at this point is a new L29, or a used AL00 that has root. Shame that if we want to change the launcher we're limited to the 6/128 version.

So whats the difference between the L29 and AL00 for someone to use in USA? And did you by chance install Emui 10 beta? If so let me know what you think of it.

1. Broken Google Location History & Sharing
2. No access to EMUI 10 beta
I use the Chinese version and there are some minor differences between the Global and Chinese version but the Chinese version has worked well for me.
Some Google services do not work. The two I have found are OK GOOGLE (always listening) and location sharing via Google Maps.
Outside of these 2 limitations I have not found a difference between the stock Chinese and Global versions. I have been very happy with my Mate 20 X and I have not found a reason to root the phone.

Thanks for your input. I think rooting may be overrated unless you install roms. But even then most roms have issues which convinces me personally to stick with stock.
.
I have no issues with Ok Google or location sharing via Google Maps. My AL00 is on Emui 10.0 & works perfectly, i’m in Europe btw. Of course, the big difference is when factory restoring must install manually the google apps like Play Store, Maps, Google Photos, Chrome, and so on. Otherwise i see no difference between global and chinese version.

Question Oneplus 11 Chinese vs global

hi
please tell me the difference between Chinese and global versions.
oneplus 11
authorized store told me that
China version is Global ROM.
Factory will open the box to install Global ROM(Oxygen OS ),multi-language and Google Play, and then, reseal it before delivery.
It supports Google Service, Multi-languages and OTA update.
Is it safe to buy the chinese version after these modifications?
No, it's not safe.
Future updates may brick your device, wipe your IMEI numbers or not install at all.
There's region call locking.
Swapping ROM gives the person who does that full access to your device.
It's best to buy a global version or a Chinese version with the original ROM.

It is not official and you don't have 100% warranty that it will work in the future. It's the AE seller own modification.
Either buy original China version with ColorOS or buy officially device meant for different region with Oxygen OS.

OnePlus authorized store on AliExpress has nothing to do with BBK/Oppo/OnePlus. This is not an official answer either. If you want to save $40 and have major issues later on - be my guest. Considering the price of the device it would be quite an irrational decision.
And, no, OnePlus does not welcome swapping ROMs from different regions. They've gone to great lengths to disable it or make it extremely complicated.

So, I should not consider the price and buy the global version. As I don't like to consume time to modify the phone, I really don't have much time for that. I need something straightforward.

That's weird also, how the official store give a misleading information or unclear about chinese version issues. I'm a little bit surprised.

Just because some trader names their store "official flagship whatever store" does not mean it's true.
