Xfinity A50 Model # SM-A505U - Samsung Galaxy A50 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a unlocked xfinity mobile A50. Is it possible to root and install TWRP? I do not see the OEM unlock option in Developer options. Did anyone install custom rom or bootloader on XM A50. Thanks

Oh No...

Wow... Dude, You Got The Wrong Version Of The 50 To Do Modifications...
Best Sell It On Swappa.
You Can Try ADB Commands... "Fastboot OEM Unlock"
Be Aware! If It Should Go Through.. It Will Wipe ALL Of Your Data.
Finally.. Be Sure The Version Of T.W.R.P. You Try Is Designed For Your Particular Device..
Dude.... I Wish You Luck Should You Attempt To Do Any Of This... But I Must Ask Why??? Are You Attempting To Run A GSI ?

Thank You For The Correction...
I Really Could Care Less... But, Since Every Other Device I've Owned "DID" Have That Option... It Was Assumed On My Part.
You Couldn't Pay Me To Root This Phone..
It's Perfect Just As It Is.... ESPECIALLY WITH SAMSUNG PAY :highfive:
For $135.00 Brand New?
Perfection Served.
P.S.
Then I Regress To An Earlier Statement:
SELL THE PHONE And Get Something WORTHY Of Root Access..

Download:

Connect device in fastboot mode (blue LED).
Open Command prompt and type:
fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_63fw.img
This will give you root immediatly after reboot!
A nicer way will come soon. But this should solve first problems

I know roughly what you are talking about. I know command prompt, although I never used fastboot, as I only owned X10 (until I dropped it and USB port snapped ), so never had to/wanted to unlock bootloader this way. But I want to learn, that's why I am reading all this now, and I need to ask about something I am not sure of.
Just go through the unlock bootloader process and then you will know what fastboot is
After that just type my comamnd with my file in the same directory and you will be done.
Regards
If I were you I would wait till I get ICS on the phone then unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
Quick question. It just wonders me. Sony "supports" unlocking bootloader, which is more dangerous than root. Why rooting is not supported then? Is it because we could unistall third party aplications and Sony has some sort of agreements with them and are obligated by law?

No you are getting the idea wrong
Long ago we discussed alot with SonyEricsson and together decided this is the best way of doing it.
The reason is simple:
Rooting alone does not give you access to all partitions etc. pp See X10 Forums for that. Sony is very good in hiding partitions
With a bootloader unlock we get fully workable fastboot. We are able to write all partitions and change what we want. (Root too)
Also Sony(Ericsson) is able to track who unlocks and who not AND is able to provide a check mechanism to forbid unlocking of phones which are not owned by the user (for example provider branded phones in contract, the phone is usually property of the provider).
So this is the reason. Unlocked bootloader gives us nearly full access, so no need to worry I am in this game since X10 times (like you or not ?)and we always got the phones working like we wanted.
Our work for CM9 on XPS has started now too.

See, I was not aware of that "agreement". Now everything seems to make sense. I am android user since I bought X10 back in August 2010. I was more or less following XDA since then as well, but this forum is worldwide community and is almost imposible to keep a track on everything. I would consider myself somewhere between rookie and advanced users. I know how to do certain things (root, how to use ADB, I was changing framwork_res.apk for my own purposes, etc.). My point also is, I am more hardware sort of guy, rather than software. That's why I am glad you guys are here with us.
Will this wipe the phone data or only the system partition ?

Well no. But the first step is that you need to unlock bootloader and THIS WILL wipe your data. To flash the systempartition itself will not wipe userdata.

Yes, I agree. But myself, I will wait for root for phones with locked bootloader as well. I assume I will be happy with phone speed, but when CM9 comes out, then I will consider unlockin bootloader.

So you restored with Titanium. Since Titanium is a Root app and you don't had Root before i think you are trying to restore a backup from another phone.
If you do that you have to assure that you ONLY RESTORE APPS and NOT SETTINGS! Settings from another phone will be most likely incompatible.
So this wil be your problem!

I don't think it will, otherwise somebody would already confirmed that I think. At the moment the only way is to flash appropriate firmware (only with unlocked bootloader).

to whom it concern for call recorder over this rom works like a charm both sides very clear and great loud
just use callrecorder by SKVALEX(green color) from market with choosing recording calls from kernel with 2 way recording patch(root required) option

[SM-T837V][Combo Firmware and Stock Firmware Files]

Hello Folks!
As soon as I got the tablet I spent a good few hours looking around for the combo firmware to start looking for exploits so figured I would provide you guys with a link to the firmware for free
It was quite funny actually, after I soft bricked and got stuck in a boot loop I realized I couldn't find any stock firmware anywhere either haha, so I spent a few hours looking for that as well.
I have the Verizon variant, I am not sure if it will work on other USA variants or not as I have no way of trying. With that being said, below will be the links. I will provide a rev1 combination firmware and a rev1 stock firmware as well as a link to a modified ODIN for easy flashing!
And with all that being said, the combo firm is good to bypass FRP. You can enable the oem unlock switch but other than removing FRP it is useless as of right now. You can however, mix and match the firmware unlike my S9+. I am currently on stock firmware with a permissive boot.img for example.
If you got questions or need help, well, you probably shouldn't be downloading anything or flashing haha. But I will try to help when I have time. I do not have any current plans to keep this thread going with updated filese as I had to pay for these. If I can find em free moving forward I will re-upload if I can but I typically stay on the lowest rev/firmware I can until I find a root method
T837VVRU1ARG4 COMBINATION FIRMWARE/FACTORY BINARY
T837VVRU1ARGG STOCK FIRMWARE
MODDED ODIN v3.13.1
If you feel like buying me a beer...
What is the main benefit of this?
In the q&a section someone wrote it is readily rootable with Magisk. Is that not the case?

Is there any firmware for the unlocked LTE snapdragon. I got the Verizon version but it's not playing nice with AT&T. Any ideas? Maybe flashing the unlocked firmware would help.

I think it's just the tablet, my Verizon one isn't playing nice with my Verizon service. Constantly not switch towers and losing service when full service is available. Or it's a tower problem but my note8 doesn't do it when my tablet does
Thanks for this, have been looking for a couple days for the build.prop file.

OEM Unlock
I have the T837V and would like to ODIN flash your files, but as you know there is no OEM unlock in the Developer Options on this tablet. Are you saying that you can flash these files without enabling the OEM unlocking?
I would like to install TWRP, but I believe this is not possible without enabling the OEM unlock. Do you know if this is true?
Thanks

I am currently working on a root method with the N9 but it should also work on Tab S4 once all is said and done. I actually found the exploit I use on the Tab S4 originally before I started workin the N9. Nothing is released yet as so far have only gained root on S9 Exynos and I am currently super bricked and waiting for a device replacement lol
Flashing other carrier firmware won't help you unlock any bootloaders or anything nor will it necessarily help you root. Only benefit I can see really in flashing other carrier firmware is say if you have an sim unlocked tablet (we'll say it's a Verizon tablet) and you want to use it on say Sprint. You can flash the Sprint software in ODIN and everything should work. It would be like you purchased the tablet from Sprint essentially.

If you were not on full stock rom without root, or anything custom, and you turned off OEM unlocking and USB debugging, then locked the bootloader, you are basically hosed my friend
Look at this point it just needs to be said... PEOPLE STOP RE-LOCKING THE DARN BOOTLOADER!!
PERIOD!!
There are literally a half dozen posts this week with probably bricked phones and a good amount of them are this same root cause.

Your preaching to the choir ol friend! While I agree with you 100%, some things are best learned the hard, and expensive way! I've done it twice myself.

My friend.....you could give me or anybody else 10 thousand bucks, and it's still not going to solve your problem I'm sorry to say. You should have unrooted the phone first, then fastbooted the factory image, or do a factory reset, and made sure that OEM unlocking & USB debugging were left on until you were done locking the bootloader. Sorry man, but there's not much you can do without at least a stock recovery, so....accept the loss, learn from your mistake, and move on. Many of us here, including myself, have been there as well. What you choose to learn from it is up to you

So its your carrier's problem then. TMobile to be exact. Are you on a contract or anything? Can you issue an unlock request if no contract?

Yes did anything ever come of this? Also when you unlock it, does it you to root it?
So is there a way to get the OEM option to appear in the dev options or a way to install a bootloader without OEM?
I'm having the same exact problem with my phone. Same model and everything and I also do not have the unlocking option In my dev options. I've tried every exploit known to me and have no luck. I tried flashing TWRP theough Odin without the OEM unlocking and I get a fail because of a secure check fail which I'm not sure is related to the bootloader not being unlocked or something else. I'd love to get an answer to this so I can get lineageos on here
Has anyone found anything yet on how to unlock or enable OEM unlocking
As I understand it the OEM unlock setting is only available after owning the device for 160 days.

Firmware info of Samsung Galaxy J2 (Metro PCS) [SM-J260T1]
Android version - 8.1.0 (Oreo)
Build # M1AJQ.J260T1UVS6ATG2
There is no OEM unlock option in the dev options for this phone.
The most I could do is to get in to go into download mode, no bootloader came up.
I Used ADB Command: adb reboot bootloader
Another PC app I seen on xda forums is called "ADBAppControl".
There is an option reboot your phone with adb built in to do it too.

My J2 is new and No at this Point, One Reply in here said after 160 days of owning it the option opens up, so I will have wait for the 160 days are up to check again.
Update, it been Over 160 Days and still do not see anything in the dev options. I bought the phone 4-12-2020. So i guess it lockout code that releases the option i suppose. or it just not available with this phone.
Was thinking of flashing my old stock 4.1 on it. cause 4.1 i had no trouble rooting it.
Yes,I'm new to the forum. I also have the same model phone unlocked from the carrier(Metro PCS). I've tried several ways to root this device but I don't have access to a PC I also get the security error code to pop up when I tried to install custom OS. I can't seem to get the recovery backup or to actually Flash the proper image to the bootloader I've also tried kingroot, kingoroot, l root, and some other one click root options. My understanding of using team Win Recovery Project without PC is limited I'm also trying to use magisk with it.In A novice in understanding...Does anyone have any advice..
Better find a friend with a computer to help you . Apps are crappier than Microsoft.

Root Access?

Anyone know if there is anything special needed to add root access to the phone? Would love to add Xposed and Magisk to the phone to customize.
Are you happy with the phone? I think I am going to buy it if root is possible.
I've been very pleased with this phone. It's responsive and snappy. The more I use it the better I get with it. It does take a little bit of a learning curve and some customizing to set it up. But it is well worth it after you do that.
. I do not believe there's any way to root this phone at the moment.

yeah I ended up getting the OnePlus 8tplus 5g for T-mobile and its bootloader unlocked and I got it sim card unlocked
This is my first unrooted device... well since ever. And I am very pleased with it. I would love to get root for ad blocking and OS update control. But other than that this phone is Rock Solid.
Did anyone managed to unlock the bootloader? I can access fastboot and recovery too but with locked bootloader you can't flash or even test boot with fastboot boot *.img. Did anyone try to "fastboot oem unlock" on old versions of the firmware?
Adb reboot fastboot works for me.
US T-mobile
Lucky. Tmo is better for the locking down of the OS.. Verizon are bastards
Bumping this thread because I got my Wing going today on TMO but would like to be able to root and remove all the AT&T and other bloatware. I'm dumb to this stuff so I don't know what the benefits are of ADB reboot fastboot but I'll happily do whatever works to make it faster.

System tuner UI works really well to speed up the phone. I went down to 0.2x for animation speed. If you don't want to use system tuner UI, you can go down to 0.5x animations and developer settings. Or turn them off completely.
Speed up transition animations
In developer options Change animation speed to ".5x" Just a little snappier especially when "winging" open ? enjoy!
