No Notications on Android 10 (Q) mirrored to the Smartwatch - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

Hi everybody,
updated my P3XL to 10 (rooted with Magisk prepatched bl).
On Pie all my Notifications were displayed on my Watch but on 10 only some are shown.
Smartwatches for testing: Samsung Gear S3 and Garmin Fenix 6
Access to notifcations is allowed for the helper apps...
Apps that don't show up on the Watch:
Telegram, Threema, AquaMail
Notifcations sent by SMS or Pushbullet work...
Can anybody confirm this behaviour?
help is highly appreciated...

system ui, toggle low priority notifications, you can try the toggle in developer settings too. Check your settings, to show all.

sorry but where do I edit these settings?
Toggeled Adaptive notification priority in Dev options.... changed nothing...
edit: screenshot from the notification menu
https://imgur.com/a/clhkgLK

If they are "silent notifications" they will not show on watch.
Make sure those aren't silent notifications.

Thanks for your help.
Notifications were not set to silent...
Solved it with a factory reset and reinstall of the companion app. I hope this error will no more occur...

Notifications?

I just switched to the one x from iphone 4, but the notification system seems to be a lot worse, there isn't even a notifications setting in settings and I'm not getting notified of draw something moves?
is there a fix to that?
You should have seen the old ios notification lol. I am sure there is a way to fix drawsomething notification. Is it an app problem?
There should be no problems with other stuff such as emails , whatsapp, viber etc which I am using.
Btw, coming from ios, you will have much to learn and you will like android. Unless you just want a dumbed down fuss free experience. Hehe

DrawSomething currently has no notifications. However there is a big update planned soon which will include notifications. See here http://phandroid.com/2012/03/25/draw-something-soon-to-receive-a-substantial-update/
I really do like android, this is just one little drawback
facebook and skype don't seem to have notifications either, i'd expect there to be a menu in settings just like iOS where you can customize which apps you want to have notifications or not?

Notification settings are usually contained within the app itself, rather than a global setting. Skype and Facebook have settings for Notifications.
As above, each individual app has notification settings within the settings of the app.

As others have said each individual app tends to have notification settings that you set up personally. There are some global notifications for email, SMS, missed calls that will flash the LED light located under "Display & gestures > Notification flash".
I'm also having problems with Facebook for Android and FB Messenger. I have notifications enabled and set up correctly, yet I'm not receiving anything for them. Also, Draw Something now has the ability for Android notifications, but each time I try to enable it, I get told they're not supported by my phone.

Go Launcher notifications question

So I did a search but didnt see anything related to this.
I want to activate my other applications to show notifications but they are greyed out. The launcher says I have to give them accessibility in the system to do that. When I go into my accessibility I never see go launcher in there.
How do I give Launcher accessibility then to apply notifications to the other applications?
The GoLauncher team have quite a modular approach to features, I think you might be missing GoLauncher Notifications:
I can't post a link as my post count isn't high enough, but just search "Go Launcher Notification" in Google Play for the extra little app and install it if you haven't already.
The Play link says it supports notifications for the following apps
Support for missed calls, unread SMS, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Whatsapp, Viber, Kakao Talk, Viber, Google Talk, Native Mailbox, Skype, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, WeChat.

Take a look at the app screenshots on GooglePlay for how to check you've got notifications enabled.

Thanks for replying. I have the application installed and its working correctly. I have my Gmail. SMS and phone notifications showing up. Its the other notifications that are greyed out: Twitter, facebook etc. that I cant get working. It says I have to give accessiblity to the application in order to get them working but I cant find it under accessibility to give it.

I'm having the same issue. It seems to not work well with the current OS accessibility.
I'm also noticing that gmail will not show notifications when it's in the dock.
Hopefully someone has a solution.

LightFlow finally supports the Sony SmartWatch 2

Hello guys! I'd like to report here that LightFlow finally supports the Sony SmartWatch 2! If you're already using it for handling the leds of your phone, you can also forward the notifications to the watch just selecting a checkbox.
Here's a link to the app: https :// play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow (sorry I don't have enough posts).
It works pretty smoothly, so give it a try!

You can select for each of your application how it notifies you. For example, if you want to handle your Facebook's notifications, you can select the color and frequency of the led, the sound, the vibration, etc., but also you can now send the notification to your watch.
This is pretty neat, because a lot of events can be handled by that app: you could for example send a notification to your watch when your phone is fully charged, and so on.
Here's a screenshot for Facebook: http://i.imgur.com/rfvupl9.png .
Wow, that does sound neat. I think my ROM has a way to program different light colors but it was never that interesting to me. But it sounds really interesting so I will check it out. One question... are they full notifications (eg the full email)?

How does it send the notification to the Smartwatch? Could you attach a picture showing it please?
Regards.
It must only be in the pay app. The free app doesn't show it. I wouldn't buy this without a chance to test it out.
I love when an app I bought and used to use adds functionality that compels me to re-install :victory:
I have paid LightFlow and I can't get it to work with sending notifications to SW2
Could anyone help me?
Edit: Had to re-install app
I started using Lightflow again after getting my SmartWatch - it seems to support all notifications, and extended Gmail notifications as well (which is great).
Is there a way of specifying notifications to be sent to the watch only when the screen is off?
@andrewpmoore - just wondering if you'd be able to provide LightFlow with detailed notifications from Gmail - with other apps that push notifications to the SmartWatch like Watchify, it's possible to push the contents of whole email on the smartwatch. Can Lightflow be set up to do this?

Yes it should be possible, I use it myself. If you enable "Gmail, all notifications" then it should pick the email text up. The label specific notifications don't (as the information isn't available when monitoring that way) so I use label specific notifications for getting different lights but have Gmail all notifications enabled with the led off and the option only set on that to push to the watch.

Thanks heaps for that, will give that a go - also, I've noticed a few 'false' notifications when I open a Messenger window, or sometimes it doesn't pick up multiple messages, is there any reason this happens?
I'm trying to find the 'ultimate' Sony SmartWatch notification app, and at the moment I'm using a combination of Watchify and WatchIt! to do different things.

I dont find this "gmail all notifications" option, i have to choose one label always. Where is this option showed?
I just got a sony smartwatch 2 and i started playing around with it.
It made me happy to read, that lightflow is able to send notifactions to the smartwatch.
Unfortuneatly I can't get it to work.
I checked the Setting "send to sony smart devices" but no notification is showing up on my smartwatch 2. I've already re-installed Lightflow, but nothing changed.
Can somebody help me ?
Hello, I have a question because I'm a bit confused. Does LightFlow support notification clearing from the Sony SW2 to the phone?
I mean, when I get a notification in Lightflow on SW2, if I read it on SW2, is it automatically cleared on the phone as well?
The app description does not tell this, and I could not find any relevant information.
I even contacted the developers of Lightflow but their response did not really made thing more clear:
Hi
With the pebble watches it doesn't clear them but on the sony watch it should. I've got an original SW1 for development and got the two way communication working between notifications.
Cheers
Andrew

Hello, I've been using your Light Flow Lite app on my Nexus 5 and I love it. But I also have a Sony SW2 smartwatch and I saw that the full app supports sending notification to the SW2. Unfortunately from the reviews of the app I understand that the app does not sync the read status of the notification on the smartwatch to the phone. More simply, when I read the notification on the smartwatch I want the notification to be automatically cleared on the phone, otherwise you would need to clear each notification two times. Is this possible from a technical point of view? Is it a planned feature? Because it's the only thing keeping me from buying your full app. Thank you. All the best.

Gmail badge with numeric notifications count

Late to the party and just got a Mate 20x! Am currently running EMUI 9.0.0.208 in case there's still stability problems with 9.1.
Just about everything is working except numeric notifications of unread Gmail messages on the homescreen Gmail icon badge. Gmail doesn't appear in settings->notifications->app icon badges or settings->notifications (badge management). I've tried to make sure everything relevant was enabled in settings->apps->apps->gmail->notifications management and in the Gmail app itself.
Gmail emails are being pushed to the phone, and notifications appear immediately on the lock screen and the top notifications bar so the problem just seems to be displaying the unread emails count on the Gmail icon badge.
I understand that the Gmail icon badge displaying numeric notifications is not supported by EMUI but Nova Launcher (non-Prime) and MIcrosoft Launcher didn't seem to make any difference to the Gmail icon badge unless I've missed a setup option.
Can I have some feedback on what launchers are able to enable (unread emails) numeric notifications on the Gmail badge in a Mate 20x?
Many thanks!
John
Hi John,
From what I've read, there are 2 Methods:
1. Method 1: Stock Launcher
- Pinch on the home screen to edit > tap settings > Badge app icons > Badge display mode > Unread messages. (Source)
2. Method 2: Nova Launcher/3rd Party App
- Instal Nova Launcher or Notifyer app (Source)

Thanks! But I've already set the Badge display mode to Unread messages (unfortunately Gmail is not listed underneath among the supported apps).
Have also tried Nova Launcher (non-Prime) and Microsoft Launcher. Can you confirm these actually enabled numeric notifications on the Gmail icon badge on a Mate 20x? Perhaps I missed a setting ...

Thanks!!! Notifyer looks great but recent reviews on the Play Store don't inspire confidence ...
Guess Notifyer will need gmail credentials of all my accounts, or can it work on the system level on the phone to read the notification count? Would rather not give yet another app my gmail credentials.

According to Source 1 & Source 2, TeslaUnread required permissions which violated the terms of Google Play Store, that's why it was removed. Google also required third party launchers to have their own unread badges and that's why Nova included one in their later builds.
You can still download the Tesla Unread apk from the official site here.
I bought and installed Nova Launcher Price but unread counts didn't appear for Gmail. I thought the new version of Nova Prime didn't need Tesla Unread ...
When I installed and setup Tesla Unread from your linked apk, finally, after this long odyssey, I saw unread email counts on Gmail! Many thanks for all your help!!!
Still worried that Gmail notifications don't appear as fast on the Mate 20x as an old Samsung S7 I'm comparing it against, but shall keep testing.
I made sure Gmail has full (manual) permissions under settings->battery-> battery usage->gmail->app launch on the Mate 20x. Hope Gmail has continuous access to wifi or mobile data even when the phone is sleeping. Not sure whether I've missed a setting for this as couldn't find anything under settings->wireless & networks->wifi (settings)
Immediate push gmail notifications when a phone is sleeping, unread emails count management from multiple gmail accounts and a big screen are the most important features in a phone for me! Hopefully the Mate 20x will (eventually) tick all the boxes!

Many thanks!!! When I setup Gmail, Nova Launcher and Nova Launcher Prime in settings->battery->app launch to 'manage manually' with everything enabled, the Mate 20x is faster getting email notifications than my old Samsung S7. Not sure whether all of this was needed but notifications were slower before when both the phones were sleeping.
Thanks for the screenshot. I don't have a "M" gmail notification in the top notifications area but a "2" (one email double counted). I noticed that emails were consistently double counted (one new email in gmail but the unread gmail iconbadge and notifications area says 2). In Nova settings -> notification badges -> Choose a style I switched from 'Numeric Dots' to 'TeslaUnread' and the double counting on the gmail icon badge stopped. The top notifications area still seems to be double counting but it's not the end of the world ...

Huawei is known for its' very aggressive battery management; That's why vs. Samsung for the same battery capacity, Huawei always wins because it puts most of its' apps to sleep if it's in the background. There are 3 settings to alter to fully keep an app alive in the background:
1. App Launch
Settings - Battery - App Launch - Manage Manually
2. Battery Optimisation
Settings - Apps - Apps - Special Access (Top Right) - Battery Optimisation - Set to "Don't Allow"
3. Lock App in Recent

Many thanks for all your help. Think Gmail notifications are now appearing instantly on my Mate 20x.
I noticed that Nova Launcher has the highest battery usage among software apps on my Mate 20x (settings->battery->'battery usage'). Do you think I need to have Nova Launcher maxed out on the following settings or can get away with less?
1. Settings - Battery - App Launch - Manage Manually

Battery usage it's too much of an issue on the Mate 20x but every little optimisation helps in the long run. Thanks!

You can try to restore both to default and see how it goes. It shouldn't cause any issues as you're using the launcher constantly so the system will adjust accordingly.
