Getting crazy, Chromacast Audio accessed externally by someone else - Chromecast Audio

My JBL with a Chromecast Audio randomly started playing lately. I thought I was getting crazy, especially since Ii took a lot a of security measures in my network, like separate VLANs, firewalls etc.
It turned out that someone I know was casting using her spotify account to the speaker (outside my network). She has connected to it in the past. Now I luckily know the root cause...
Is this normal? Did others have seen the same? How can I block and prevent this? Hoe can I delete devices that have connected to the Chromecast?

Yes, pretty normal. If anybody can get on your wifi network (have your wifi password) they can do this. I've done this to my cousin a few times (taking over his TV with videos when I approach his house). All you can do is change the wifi credentials and not share them.

HTC One Media Link

Hi so I got the free HD Media Link that AT&T was offering with pre-order of the phone. Is there anyone else having issues trying to have it connect? I have read that you have to turn of your 5GHz on the wifi router in order of the Media Link to work, which it did when I reset my router, then it went back to trying to connect as a HotSpot. ATT charges allot for this option the HotSpot, so anyone with suggestions on how to get the media link to stay connected through the router? Thank you for your help in the matter,

I am using the Media Link that I bought separately for $80. at the Sprint store I think it was the only one in the town where I live as I had to call around a bunch of stores for it. I have a wireless G router and it connects pretty good. I stream video, watch tv, play video games, etc.. Some time it lags a little. On my Sprint HTC One if it disconnects abruptly for some reason you see a error message about the hot spot too - but I think thats normal because its sending a wireless transmission from the phone to media link and I think it uses part of hot spot or something. Did you swipe the screen with three fingers upward to connect to media link. Or on my phone if you go into android settings there is a separate media link button to click and connect to media link. Hope this helps maybe.

It's an issue with AT&T and tethering at the moment. HTC says they are working on a fix.. only option right now is to root and flash the tethering or hotspot mod available in the one AT&T development section in xda.

Yeah I have followed the directions and even reset the box a few times. When I do however shut off the 5GHz and reboot the router I can login, I have only been able to do this twice now. Each time I try and do the swipe it tries to connect then switches to HotSpot. I believe it is an issue with ATT which upsets me because it was one of the reasons I got the HTC One was the media link but if the ad was used to trick me into purchasing the HTC One then I am going to make sure that ATT knows about this and I will be more than happy to vent my frustrations with them... I started getting the tethering error too. Evidently, HTC is aware of a problem. I saw some things on the web that said try turning the airplane mode on. I tried that and it did not work. However, I got to thinking well it was working fine - what changed. I turned my bluetooth on and off again and that it started working. Try connecting with bluetooth turn on. Once you connected turn off bluetooth. I did this and now I don't have any problems again. I think there is something wrong with bluetooth interfering with media link.

Persistent video glitches

I noticed the other day while Netflix was on there were frequent but very slight lags in video playback. I can't say it's dropping frames because I've seen what that looks like--best I can describe it is the video playback sort of goes into slow motion but only for a split second (happens maybe 1 to 3 times per minute)
At first I thought it was Netflix, notoriously problematic on aftv, but today I noticed it's happening on xbmc. The files are played from my local server.
My other aftv doesn't do this. It's running the same firmware except it's on WiFi while the one with playback issues is hardwired. I bring it up in case someone thinks it's a possible network issue and not aftv related. If so how would you go about troubleshooting? Different Ethernet cable? Or maybe this is software related...any feedback is good especially if you experience similar issues. Thanks.

Ethernet is always better than wifi. Maybe its trying to cathup to the connection. Do this simple test, reboot and unhook the ethernet cable and try it with wifi and see if it still happpens. Netflix has that thing where they pay ISPs for faster connection so if it does not happen on wifi, I am guessing your ethernet connection is too good for Netflix. I know that sounds weird, but it happens.

For one I never said anything about Netflix knowing your connection, but if you wanna get technical, every website you visit knows exactly what kind of connection you are using. Not only do they know what kind of connection you use, but they know exactly who your service provider is, what your IP address is and exactly where you are in the world, within a few feet. Also, an ethernet connection will always be faster and much more stable and consistant than your WiFi connection. Thats why I said his ethernet connection may be making it hard for the stream to catchup, in turn causing glitches in the stream. Maybe you should go back and read my reply again before you make a fool of yourself. Netflix does pay ISPs for faster speeds. They started doing it a couple years ago and it pissed the government off, cause they thought Netflix was gonna charge their customers for the extra speeds, but in the end the government allowed it and now a lot of media streaming sites are doing the same exact thing. For example, they pay a company like Verizon to let let them have direct access to their network which makes Netflix faster for its customers. All the major ISPs are now letting video sites do the same, cause the sites are paying good money to the ISPs to make their sites faster for their customers.

Had to read it twice but what you're saying actually makes sense. My speeds are very fast. They actually test considerably higher on 5ghz than wired but usually hardwired is better because 1. It only needs to be so fast to stream 2. Less interference when it's wired.
Also, my Dad's speeds are are about 1/10 of what I get yet he streams Netflix flawlessly over WiFi. Taking that into consideration, it does seem logical faster speeds could potentially cause playback issues. But what I don't have the expertise to understand... couldn't the manufacturer of the device have some sort of governor to limit that connection?--using only what's needed for sd 720p 1080 or 4k? I'm just thinking that if what you're saying is true--and I think it might be--a lot of people would report it. Especially those with gigabyte speeds because I'd imagine they'd experience the most severe trouble.
Update--yes. The lag dissapeared when connected to WiFi. Con--When I mount drives with adbFire it only shows up as a smb share when hardwired. I have to put up with the glitch or go back to stickmount and a samba apk. But appreciate the info. Thanks!

Anyone Else Use Chromecast Audio In Their Car?

I know it's ridiculous for some folks and maybe I do it just for the sake of doing it, but ah well. It's the future so I enjoy these things.
I have my hotspot from my LG V10, did the same with my Nexus 6 until a few weeks ago, and a Nexus 7 with a usb hub w/ 3 x 128GB tiny flash drives in it connected to that network. I do the cast screen function and use PowerAmp and shuffle like 300whatever gigs of music to the Chromecast Audio which is plugged into my Scion xB.
Might move from the Nexus 7 to a Huawei P8max in january with tax returns coming since it has 64gb and I'll put a 200gb card in it and that'll be close enough to the amount of music I'm using now.
I'm more concerned with convenience than quality outside of the fact that I avoid bluetooth audio, this is wifi and full quality. Otherwise I'd fiddle with an external DAC as well. Who knows what the future holds though.

unfortunately one big disadvantage is that it still requires internet to initiate the casting connection, especially if you are not covered with network it stops working
thats why for car-usage it seems that bluetooth is far superior (especially if using apt-x)
Id like to see a way to circumvent the need for internet connection though. Any idea?
Update: Ive made an interesting discovery!!
While connected to the Setup-Wifi (when the Test-Tone can be played!) of the Chromecast Audio it is possible to enable Screen Mirroring / Casting via the Chromecast App then you can listen to anything the Phone plays. If this is stable and usable this would be really awesome. I will keep testing

Nice find. I have been waiting for root or some solution like this before i purchase a CCA. My scenario is - bluetooth handsfree profile to car bluetooth, headset jack to car audio input. This works great for streaming music from tidal. The problem is the 2007 audio input jack sometimes makes loud pops. Yeah i could probably clean the jack, but i want fully wireless!
Last time i checked, Tidal was not supported on CCA.
I am on Metro PCS, who provides UNLIMITED tidal music streaming, so simply hotspotting the phone will not work for me(no tidal app for CCA)(data plan would be consumed).
I think my car has an optical input, and getting this setup working would be awesome- not ridiculous.
So does this quoted workaround work?
And if so, what steps are required every time you get in the car?

I got one for Xmas and it's been sitting around in a box looking for a purpose. That internet connection bs needs to go. If you want superimpose ads or whatever but let it function offline. For the same price I got a Hootoo portable htm05 router/nas/ battery and it works offline with dlna and bubble upnp. Too bad because the chromecast is smaller and more efficient. If anyone finds a practical workaround hit us up.
I am using Chromecast audio in both of my cars for these reasons:
Lack of bluetooth audio in car.
Steeamed media is far superior from an audio quality perspective.
The DAC in the Chromecast is exceptional.
VW Monsoon and Audi B&O both sound amazing.
I find the chromecast volume level should be at around 50% else distortion may occur on some of the high volume sections.

I plugged the chromcast audio in my car usb charger and I overburned 2 out of 2 chromecast devices.. anyone had similar issue? is there an Ampere limit I should stick to?

You can't "overburn" them. They probably went out for different reasons, like .. heat. Look at the factory charger the chromecast comes with and use that as your reference. I don't see why a regular 1amp charger would be an issue. The Chromecast will only pull as much as it needs, you can't feed it more.
Well car temperature was 18 celsius. Amp could have been 2.4 ...
Like the previous guy said, CCA will only pull as much power as it needs. Perhaps your power adapter is low quality and didn't supply enough power to the CCA which will cause failure.

What is the output voltage for your 12V adapter? The Chromecast takes 5V.
So I've made progress, and enjoyed using my chromecast audio (CCA) both to and from work today.
First, you need to decide whether you will only be playing local content on your phone, or will you want to play audio from the Internet via your phone. I'll only talk about Option 2 here for now.
To do this, you either need to have a mobile hotspot working on your phone, or you need to use a MIFI device in your car. I am using the mobile hotspot on my android phone.
In brief, you will set up the CCA to connect to the phone's hotspot when you turn on your car. Then, you will cast from your phone in guest mode (since your phone will turn off wifi when the hotspot comes on, you can't make the traditional wifi connection from your phone to the CCA via a wireless router). Once setup, your phone will notice that it is "close" to the CCA, and you can then cast to nearby CCA in guest mode.
The tricky piece is doing the initial setup. For now, you need to initialize your CCA in a different environment than your car. Choose an SSID and password that you will use in normal operation in your car. Find a wireless router that you can manage and change its SSID and password to your chosen values. (This router is only used in setup; I'll call it the "temp wifi router".) Connect your primary phone to this temp wifi router (scan for wifi, choose the appropriate SSID, and enter the right password).
Power up the chromecast nearby (in range of your temp wifi router) Now go to the Chromecast Home app. If all is running as it should, it should see the CCA and offer to set it up. Set up as you normally would, instructing the CCA to use your chosen SSID and password of the temp wifi router. Setup Guest mode on the CCA and remember the 4 digit pin. Turn off your primary phone's wifi, connecting to the Internet via the cellular network. Confirm operation by casting audio from your primary phone in guest mode to your CCA.
Now turn off the temp wifi router (or change its SSID). Turn on the mobile hotspot on your phone. Change the SSID and password of your mobile hotspot to your chosen values. Reboot the CCA and your phone. Turn on the mobile hotspot on your phone. In a 10-20 sec, your CCA will reconnect to your phone's mobile hotspot. Now use your phone to send audio to your CCA in guest mode. Done!

Strange internet connectivity issues after updating

So I recently updated my phone to 5.9.023S_03131 official release. Rooted the phone, got TWRP and Xposed framework and all that. Now the issue I'm having is when in connected to any network.
Let me explain, for example I turn on the YouTube app, and the thumbnails are really slow at loading, like really slow (on my home network which is 300Mbit down, 40Mbit up, right next to the router). It feels like there is a huge delay, as if I have really high ping to the YouTube server, same with the twitch app, it takes a really long time for it to actually connect to a stream, but once it's connected it works fine. YouTube videos work fine once connected as well. This has started happening after I updated my phone. Any ideas?
Also one more issue I'm having is that the YouTube app is not giving me the option of watching videos in 1080p60fps, which I was able to before updating.
I'm fairly certain this is device software related, because neither my PC, or anyone else's phone on the network has the same issue.
So any ideas?

Strange Firestick 4k issue, any ideas?

We have Firestick 4K hooked up to several TVs to use Netflix, HBO, Disney+, and some of those other movie apps, if you know what I mean.
We've been running them for years with zero issues, including IPTV during NFL season.
I thought our internet was acting up because of an issue that appeared about 3 weeks ago. I did all the usual, Cleared Caches, restart devices, hard reboot on devices, changed DNS, etc... Then I switched out our router (Verizon Fios 1 gig), issue still remained.
So the issue is very strange and I'm hoping someone can lead me to a solution.
Suddenly,
Some preview thumbnails will not load on Firestick home screen
A couple of Apps like Disney+ and HBO Max will not load(but Netflix works fine)
SmartTube Apk(no ads) will not load preview thumbnails or videos(but regular YouTube works fine)
My other Movie.TV apks will not load thumbnails or any streams
When I was using WiFi calling on my cell, I kept dropping calls
So we thought it might be a Fire device issue, maybe due to an update but....
My son and my wife both noticed around the same time that the same not loading Thumbnails and videos issues was happening on their Twitter app on their phone while using wi-fi. My son also noticed that a couple other apps like DoorDash wouldn't load either, but all work fine on mobile data.
Other than that internet functions as it should. Our Download and Upload speeds are fine. We can browse websites on our laptops fine. I even just bought tickets on a popular Ticketmaster on sale the other day without issue. My wife and son both work from home remotely, and neither of them have had any daily issues regarding their access for work.
A little more info, when we connect the Fire Devices to our unlimited mobile data via hot spot on our phone, all Firestick and video apps work as they should without issue.
I have been having the same issue. I also have Verizon internet and have also done every possible reset, update or change to the router, with no improvement. For us Paramount Plus, Amazon Music and BET+ are not working, but DirecTV Stream works perfectly. Up until a week or so ago all apps were functioning normally. I'm reaching out to Verizon today, but honestly don't think it has anything to do with the service because all other devices (and we have several) are working properly on the Wi-Fi. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
After some research, I found out the issue.
Verizon(my ISP) is blocking/throttling some streaming apps. We bought a trial for a VPN, used that, and everything worked fine. All issues were resolved.

Just got off the phone with Verizon and they were finally able to fix the issue after I told the rep the Wi-Fi issue was only effected android (Google TV) and android adjacent devices (Amazon Fire TV). He immediately said it was an IPv6 issue, and proceeded to disable the feature. After rebooting the router, all of our devices worked as they had before the issue. He informed me that the feature can be disabled on your own if you log into your router's account via the internet. You can also call Verizon to have them do it.
