Bluetooth audio quality question - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hello. I change phones alot and have noticed that some phones(all android) have better bluetooth playback than others.
I had a oneplus 7 pro before this phone and the bluetooth quality to my truck was great and had no issues but with this phone the highs sounds scratchy or like if the speaker is bad. But if i connect it with a wire connection it sounds great. Everything with the 2 phones is the same. On both i was using the galaxy watch and pretty much the same apps. On a previous phone the note 8 i had the same issue but it was a different car. Seems like its the way samsung handles bluetooth.
Has anyone had this issue? If so was there a fix?

What do you mean?

The only two things I think about is the codec used that may be different across devices, and the Bluetooth settings that sync the phones volume with the headset (the differences are noticeable).
Since no DAC is used in Bluetooth, I don't think it can comes from them, for a same headset.

On Samsung phones you should run the adapt sound process. Try this.

I tried with the sync volume off too and no improvement.
I looked for the adapt sound and my phone doesn't have that setting. Or is it something different?

You have to do this in a quiet place and ensure to answer honestly. If you can't hear the beeping press no.
After doing this the sound quality is night and day difference.

I've had issues sometimes with audio being piped through the "Calls" Bluetooth channel versus the "Audio" channel so worth checking as the quality is obviously night and day.
I also like enabling Dolby Atmos on my Note 10+ for music so worth playing with too. Additionally, I recently found Samsung's Sound Assistant app which let's you customize a bunch of sound settings so worth checking out as well:

Easiest is probably just uncheck calls in your phones BT settings for your truck (and make sure audio is enabled). If the sound is still not great then this isn't the issue.

Sorry to respond to an old thread, but I was wondering if any of this fixed the OP's problem. I followed all the recommendations here and on other threads but have not been able to solve my recent Bluetooth audio problem. The sound has been terrible lately.

Same issue here on my s10+. When playing any audio in my car via BT i hear the distortion/hissing noise especially when the song has a higher treble frequency.
I have just about tried all fixes i could find on Google, and no luck.
When connecting to my ear buds (Jabra Elite 65t) it disappears and checked in developer mode that it supports to AAC for BT Codecs.
But when connecting to the car it reverts to SBC.
The issue clearly lies on Samsungs side, as my brother has a Huawei p30 Pro, also has bluetooth 5 and plays amazingly well in all aspects (Bass-Mids-Treble).
I know I'm posting this almost a year later, but i am desperately looking for a fix.
SN. I have recently updated my phone to Android 10, despite all the complaints to Samsung from many users... Sadly this issue has not being fixed on my side.
From what i see online, people have given up on Samsung and opted for Rooting their Samsungs and installing Viper4Andriod.
Has any one done this and can confirm that it fixed the issue?

Mangler+mic= McD's telecom

i downloaded mangler from the market and joined my friends ventrilo server which is pretty cool.
one thing thats annoying me to hell is the sound quality. im using the klipsch s2m with mic and they said i sound like the mcd's person and kept on saying "would you like fries with that?" lol
i tried with the headsets mic first, then the phones mic and then other sets but they all sound the same. also did with wifi and 3g no difference.
any idea why its like that? is it the codec thats really crappy on the phone or the mangler app? i logged on vent through pc and phone and listened to it. it sounds just as bad if not worse than the recorded video
I don't think any of us have tested it with a wired mic/headset. We're not really that far in yet. However, have you tried with and without "force 8khz" option?

And I assume it works fine without the headset. If so, you'll just have to wait until we get around to testing with the wired mic.
And just FYI, BlueTooth is impossible because it's not supported in Android (via the public API)
sorry for late reply. its still the same without the headset tho. with inline mic and with phones mic i still sound the same. i tried another vent app called ventriloid and i do sound a little bit better but the robotic sound is still there.
could it be the codecs?
im trying to figure out also if there is a fix for the recording audio as well.. like an external mic but everything i have found said that it doesnt work
Could it be some setting on your vent server? Or maybe you have a bad/high-latent 3G connection?
I've used the built-in mic a lot with Mangler, and the audio is just fine (even tested this myself by logging into Vent on my PC at the same time).
I'm going to go out on a limb, and guess that it's the codec or your connection. The app might be auto-compressing your audio because it thinks you have low upstream bandwidth.
Also, are you by chance using a Froyo ROM? The AAC+ decoder is crap in it, so it's not a stretch to imagine that the encoder is also crap, and since AAC+ is such an efficient codec by bandwidth, it's easy to see why it would be chosen...

[Q] Streaming Bluetooth Audio Still an Issue on AOSP and Sense Roms - is there a fix?

I have done extensive testing with both my HTC One and Samsung Galaxy Nexus regarding the phantom ringing noise that exists on bluetooth audio. This issue is not only present on streaming bluetooth audio but also present when the sound file is kept on the actual phone (using Google Play Music). So far I have tried the following:
1) Tried multiple roms both sense and aosp - the ringing/buzzing noise still exists on both (DEFINITION - PHANTOM RINGING/BUZZING NOISE - a buzzing series of overtones that exists particularly when listening to jazz music that has a lot of ride and crash cymbals being played) As a professional musician, this can be quite annoying.
2) Tried going back and forth between bluetooth and auxiliary cable on both phones (HTC One and Galaxy Nexus), trying AOSP vs. SENSE roms, streaming vs. non streaming. Both phones and all roms have the same issue present, the bluetooth audio has a fuzzy clarity to the cymbals. It is worth mentioning that the AOSP roms are slightly better in terms of less Phantom ringing/buzzing but far from perfect.
My question is, does anyone have a fix for this? I paid big bucks to have Bluetooth installed in my car and really want to use it.
The auxiliary cable sounds good until you plug your phone charger in.....that presents an even larger noise issue. Please help.

if 2 phones and different roms still cause the problem then it might be your BT system.
what music player are you using / do any of them have an EQ system you can adjust.

I am using an Audiovox Media bridge, however, I do not think that is the issue due to the fact that the issue improves slightly on the Aosp ROM. Additionally, when I run the aux through the media bridge I have no issues.
I am using Google play music. I have tried adjusting the EQ using Viper ROM 5.0 and have had no success. Any other ideas?

Stereo Audio not recording?

This might not be as much of an issue for most people as it is for me, but I've noticed that my Mi Max isn't recording stereo audio when filming video or when using audio recording apps.
I've attached screenshots form Sony's Audio Recorder showing the microphone test function. You can see on my old Meizu the levels are different for the top and bottom microphones, whereas on the Xiaomi both microphones are being combined into a mono track (both levels are the same).
If possible, it would be great if someone could confirm that this is the same for their device too. I've attached a link to the Sony Audio Recorder on the Play Store. The mic test function is in the settings menu.
I'm using a Hydrogen 32GB/3GB with the latest unrooted/unmodified global ROM. 8.1.6.0

Yep same. It has a mono speaker so it's normal that it has a mono recorder.

Hi RedFox. Thanks for confirming that. It's true that the handset has a mono speaker, but the phone has two microphones, one at the top and one at the bottom.
Like most modern handsets it uses both microphones to record audio when filming video. When the phone is held in landscape one microphone (usually the top) records on the left and the other (usually the bottom) on the right. The issue is that it mixes both left and right channels into one mono track. That is actually pretty uncommon, as most handsets keep the stereo separation to give you a more immersive experience when watching on a laptop or listening on headphones.
Maybe it's an issue they'll fix with a future update. Who knows! Thanks again for checking it out! :good:

hi MikusP, my mi max also having this issue, not only the mi max series device, most of the all Mi mobiles are in the same problem, because this is not a mobile hardware problem, its depends on the (OS) software, by the software only we could rectify this problem, these process has to rectify done through only mi xiome manufacture, the manufacture also know this problem, most of the people didn't like stereo recording, even though many people they dont know about this problem we could not modify this problem. and also one more problem is FM radio not play in stereo mode, i checked in most of the mi series, these also can modified only by (OS).

Bluetooth Headphones Issue

I have an issue with a new pair of bluetooth headphones i have just purchased. Specifically media playback sound quality. It is utterly woeful, with distortion, hiss, and cackles/pops continually over any media player or videos. Sound quality on calls is fine. I know that the headphones work, as i have used them on other devices and they function fine. My S9 is currently up to date.
I initially though that it was something to do with volume limiter as the weird thing is occasionally when they immediately connect and i play some music they work fine, then the quality drops as soon as the limiter notice pops up. I have checked though and the limiter is actually turned off. Turning it back on doesn't solve the issue either. I've gone so far as to wipe the whole cache partition and nuke all the caches, but that hasn't helped either.
Is there a known issue that I am unaware of ? Hopefully with a resolution, or other obvious steps i could try that people could recommend, as I am out of ideas now.

i flip back and forth between a few different BT headsets and never have this issue and have also used the same headsets on several devices in my bag-o-tricks. The phone does use a DAC for music where its pretty raw for the phone convo, which could explain why calls are ok, but music isnt. Is this your only pair of BT headphones? Do you know anyone who will help you test them on another phone?

I do actually have another pair of bluetooth headphones i use for my PC, i will try them with the phone tonight, though I am sure that the headphones themselves are fine. They work with my watch without any issues.

I have experimented a bit more, and think that this is a codec issue. If I enable the developer menu, and switch to another codec (not the SDC if defaults to) them restart the headset they work fine. Problem is that it always defaults back to SDC whenever the headphones are disconnected for a period of time. I can't see how to force the use of another codec, both AAC and LDAC for example work absolutely fine with the headset. Though this is quite a long process just to get the headphones to work each and every time i want to use them.

I last updated 02nd August 2019. I have just checked again, and apparently running the latest version available OTA.
I couldn't tell you when the bluetooth sound issue started, as this is the first time in a long time i have connected any bluetooth headphones to my phone. I think previously connected the other headphones i have yet to check again, but am not certain.

gotcha. i also understand youre probably at work like many of us poor schmucks such as myself, which would make it kinda hard to test things out right this moment. But do any of your coworkers have a BT speaker you can connect to to try to replicate the issue there as well? Im mainly trying to eliminate variables at this point. You might try flashing the most current Odin files with the "HOME_CSC" as to not erase your user data. Itll over-write the code for the OS and so forth and nuke any software issues that might be causing this
I've now tested another set of bluetooth headphones and they work absolutely fine, they default into the aptX codec. Is that determined by what the device primarily works with ?

yes, the codec is changed by the DAC within the phone to be the best suited to whatever device its connecting to. What kind of headphones are you using that get the garbage sound? I have a pair of Tozo T10's, which are the off-brand individual ear buds from amazon for $50 and they sound very good. I also have a pair of maxsonic bluetooth buds which cost $17 that are connected to each other by a wire and they sound equally as good.

Question Sound comes out of speakers even when earbuds are connected

When my bluetooth earphones are connected, every phone sound (calls, ringtones, etc.) comes out of the speakers, too - as in, I hear the sound in my earphones, and it's coming out of the phone's speakers at the same time. The only time it doesn't happen is when I'm listening to Spotify. My partner has a Pixel 6 and has the same issue.
I've cheked bluetooth settings and everything that should be checked is checked. It's really frustrating and I can't figure out if it's by design or if I need new earphones (even though I don't have this issue with these earphones and any of my other devices) or WTF else is going on
Any ideas?
My Galaxy buds pair with no problem and appear to be playing but there is no sound. They work great with other devices and have worked on e before with my Pixel 6 Pro. Very frustrating. Rebooted, forgot and reconnected, and even reset the earbuds. Still nothing.

Did you find a solution yet?
That's an odd problem, and not a common one for sure.
What kind of bluetooth earphones are you using?
Did you reboot your device?
Did you try out a safemode to see if a third-party app causes your problem?
-> Especially since your partners phone also has this problem, maybe you use the same third-party app causing this?
You could also try to reset/clear cache/storage the basic Google processes running to see if they have a hang up.

Nope, no solution. I've done everything you mentioned and nothing has worked. I've also tried different bluetooth earbuds, just in case, and no joy. I know some manufacturers choose for "phone" sounds to play toghether with connected buds, but I take it from your reply that it's not the case with the Pixel 6 Pro so I'm just baffled by this.
For now my way around this issue is to put the phone on silent or vibrate while connecte to bluetooth, but it's clearly not a solution.
