How to root redmi note 8? - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody has any idea how to root this device with magisk successfully. I have tried flashing twrp via fastboot then flashing magisk via twrp but when I reboot it only takes me to twrp again. I've also tried patching stock boot.img via magisk manager and then flashing the patched boot.img still wont reboot to system. If anybody here knows how to root this device please reply, thanks

Hi ! Which one do you have ?
Global or CN version and what ROM is installed in ?

Did you managed to flashed successfully?
I tried mine, but it got stucked at booting into twrp mode.
I flashed cn twrp into cn rom and then I flashed global rom thru twrp and keep booting into Twrp..
---------- Post added at 04:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:36 AM ----------
Then I flashed fastboot cn rom but somehow it became global rom with " find device closed unexpectedly" and also goes into xiaomi recovery mode.

Did you try rooting with SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5.zip?
---------- Post added at 07:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 AM ----------
You might need to flash Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt.zip as well.

Is it possible to install Global Rom on the Chinese version?

i had flashed some roms but the system partion of these still encrypted。
I solved the problem by flashing a hacked rom which truly decrypted systempartion。
so i think twrp (the current one)cannot help to decrypt systempartion

Yes I did. All I did was download the fastboot rom and then flashed it with miflash tool.

So is this a problem with twrp and not magisk being incompatible with the device? Should we just wait for official twrp?

Now of u can give me instructions about flashing zips via ADB it would be PERFECT!

Flash the twrp in lineagesOS OP
Download this

Then flash it as an image using your existing TWRP.
It will confirm on which partition youll flash it, select 'recovery'

Proceed to recovery and then flash the SU package provided in LOS thread.
You might want to consider downloading the SU zip add on just to ensure that your file is not corrupted.

b. Flash 21 file img in fastboot mode (power + volumeup) using usb type C side of ROG Phone):
Run cmd-here.exe, command:
fastboot flash ***.img (*** same with name 21 file img, do not rename file)
EX: fastboot flash system system.im
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
Boot in to recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset then reboot system!

also, does flashing this WW ROM deletes all personal data? or does it flash like an update retaining data?
wow!!
is it works??
and is it without root??
Will OTA updates work on this? Also, could you rewrite the guide some parts are a bit confusing
It works. No OTA from now on though, without a patched boot.img the phone will always go into a bootloop. Some people have reported dead camera after WWE conversion.

Can someone state the major differences between the two roms?. I don't see the point of losing OTA and warranty unless you need the stock UI, other than that i don't see any advantages. By the way can someone confirm the call recording option is still there with the WW Rom.

Hello Guys, I messed up as I did not unlock bootloader first before flashing it from fastboot. Now I have a bootloop. Can anyone help me how to reflash CN. I have a lock bootloader. Thank you very much.
Unlocking BL also voids the Widevine L1 DRM btw, proceed at your own risk.
Can anyone help me how to unlock the bootloader via fastboot since I cannot get in the software as I have a bootloop. I greatly appreciate it as I have been figuring out this for the past 5 hours. Thank you.

You cannot unlock without the app. Hold the power and volume up key when the phone boots up until you enter the bootloader menu then using the volume keys navigate to recovery option from there just do a factory reset.

buddy how do you know that you have Chinese version with global rom.
i have this device but not sure if it is global or not
I'm using cn and moved to global.
Here is what I have done:
- Unlock
- Flash fastboot global rom (Only A9 available)
- Update to latest
- Flash orangefox
- Use TWRP's guide to flash vbmeta to disable and avoid tripping AVB (see TWRP thread)
- Boot to system once
- Reboot to recovery
- ...
- Profit
The trickiest part is when flashing recovery. If you don't enter the recovery after entering "fastboot reboot" command, your recovery would likely be replaced. Hold vol+ when entering command.
Be carefull when updating. If you have not flashed a MIUI full rom on orangefox, you cannot do incremental update, so go with full rom once. Also I have bootloop once, and fortunately escaped. Here is my solution (need someone to test, since this is my daily driver)
- Vanillafy everything (uninstall magisk, restore stock boot.img, restore stock recovery)
- Update
- Customize everything
OR
- After flashing update, dont reboot to system. It will likely to trip AVB. Flash vbmeta once and try to reboot.
If you have tried second update method and succeeded, please do tell.
Hope this help.

pretty simple bro, just return to miui 11 first because I fear you can brick, after that, just flash any twrp for a10 or a9 (depending of your android version) then wipe dalvik, cache, data.
**miui is problematic flashing in different versions, in my video I recommended donwgrade first

You can, working flawlessly. But once go global, never lock your bootloader.
You can use below TWRP Thanks LR Team. (I tired Miui 12 with CH Device)
install TWRP in fastboot
Reboot TWRP after Advanced >File Manager > delete "system_root/system/recovery_fromboot.p"
Again Advanced > install root
Finish.
https://mega.nz/file/7E5QhS6Y#hzCpPWwxO4104R0oJRTv0L1_-lNb5D1pgYp9h4oJfVM
if bootloop restart TWRP>Advanced>Remove AVB 2.0
Advanced >File Manager > delete "system_root/system/recovery_fromboot.p"
Again "Advanced > install root"
can not pass saftynet ctsprofile

Please, help me to enable root access on my CD with Global Rom MIUI 12

Hi.
Please, can anyone tell me a way that really works for enable root access from magisk to my chinese device unlocked with global rom MIUI 12 / Android 10?
Every tutorial I follow, I got bootlooping.
I tried Boot Image Patching tutorial from magisk, which consists in installing magisk manager apk, patching the stock boot.img and fastboot flash the new boot.img.
Result: bootlooping, and I had to flash stock boot.img again to solve.
Flashing UNOFFICIAL TWRP by wzsx150 for Android 10, mounting system, deleting recovery-from-boot.p, closing avb 2.0, installing root and reboot. Result: bootlooping. To solve this I had to flash stock boot and recovery.
Tried to not delete recovery-from-boot, tried to install TWRP + directly magisk from oficial zip. Results: bootlooping
I even tried to flash from miflash tool original firmware "begonia_global_images_V12.0.2.0.QGGMIXM_20200710.0000.00_10.0_global_5c06839838", changing the boot.img for the patched from magisk. Bootlooping.
Anyone, please?!

Is your device chinese and your rom global with MIUI 12, same as mine?
About the safetynet, dunno what is your problem, but since earlier this year, every phone with bootlooader unlocked, CTS profile fails, but basic integrity pass.
