Navigation gestures - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I'm planning to upgrade from my OP6 to a OP7T. I'm just worried that I will loose the "old" navigation gestures. In reviews, the only gestures present are the new android 10 gestures. Anyone know how this gonna be?

Only two modes of navigation are available.
1. Three button method.
2. Android 10 gestures method (OnePlus's version)

It's the stock Android 10 gestures. I guess you added OnePlus's version because it adds the feature of restricting back gesture to only bottom 2/3 of the screen. Rest is stock.

yes

Does anyone find switching bettwen apps irritating in new gestures?
On contrary to my oneplus 6T, i have to swipe from bottom to left to go to my previous app, and SWIPE RIGHT TO GO BACK TO ORIGINAL APP

Ah okay. So the old oneplus gestures won't be available on the 7T?

Why?
The reason why I'm switching is because I can sell my OP6 now for decent money and get the OP7T. When OP8 comes out, my OP6 isn't worth a damn ****.

Ah. For me OP7T looks like the best phone from oneplus yet. Flat screen, a tiny notch, 90hz screen and less wide than OP7 pro (easier for one hand use)

I am not fully aware of OnePlus's old gesture navigation as i switched from OP3 but all I can say is its same as Google's gestures with top 1/3rd of the edges left out for menu sliding. The back gestures from left & right only work in bottom 2/3rd portion of edges.

I have that on my OnePlus 7t pro. I also have an option to turn that off and see no bar at the bottom.

Yes the bar is off, also can you be specific on the "That" part, which one is it for you?

No way to bring back OP gestures from the 7 Pro on Pie?

Related question: is there a way to just disable the corner gesture for assistant? I disabled the assistant completely but it's still annoying if I swipe from the corner because I'm still a lil bit used to old navigation gestures from OxygenOS 9

Man, really not enjoying these Google gestures. Why the heavy hand on their part? Would it truly kill them to allow OP and other's to keep their own gestures? They know this side gesture conflicts with apps that even they made, right? Like the Play Store? What's wrong with Google?
Seriously, it's kinda killing the enjoyment with this phone. I hate nav buttons but I may have to be forced to use them. Old OP gestures. I want those back.

I'm loosing my mind.. how on Earth did OP think it was a good idea to remove their own gestures?? These were the best in the industry IMHO.. just got the 7t today and I'm loosing my mind.. I hate the Google gestures.. OnePlus gestures sooo smooth and fast.. need to make a petition to bring them back..

Google doesn't allow third party gestures anymore with Android 10. OP can modify it but it can't be totally different.
For example, in OP the top 20% area doesn't work for back gesture.
The 45° swipe for opening assistant is also a requirement for Google certification.

Seriously considering returning this 7T and getting a 7 Pro. Android 10 is a disappointment with these gestures. Such a needless heavy hand by Google. I hate this. Screw it. Back on the 7 Pro and stay on Pie until the phone falls apart. This is ridiculous.

Its an issue of android 10 rather than the phone itself,
Buying an outdated phone just to be on outdated version doesn't seem like the best solution.

I doubt it... unless you twist the screen back and fourth to landscape / portrait and hack the shake feature in the app. The note 8.0 does not have all the features as the Tab 3, even though it is a faster and better tablet.

but i read some posts said that it depends on the kernel of the device not on hardware features
"Protect the hardware buttons"? Seriously?
I've had 4 different Android devices, and 2 WinMo before that, and never had a button fail.

Someone please port the firmware from the new G Pads

I was at best buy yesterday, and the new line of g pads is out! The ui has been updated (looks like the ui from the g3), and has many features built in that we dont have on our g pad (including split window and hide nav buttons on a per app basis)!

hmm... split window feature? from the sound of it looks like another knockoff from Samsung, not that there's anything wrong with that. here's to hoping they minimize their bloat and not follow Sammy's foot steps. Been using the Note 3 for almost a year now, and I can really feel the bloat is affecting my performance (seeing in Antutu the note 3 averages on 30+k mark, but I only get a measly 18-21k (even when it was new). Would have rooted it if not for that darned knox counter.

Its only considered bloatware if its features you don't use, which is why we root! Benchmark scores don't mean crap to me, how the phone feels is what matters. If after time a device starts feeling slow to me , i do a factory reset and start over.
I hope this happens as well. I'm going to downgrade due to LG breaking Google play music. The g3 rom fixed this on my g2 so hopeful this new firmware will for the GPad...

Pixel XL Navigation Buttons question

Wasn't in the market for a new phone but my coworker is in a bad money situation and is selling me his Google Playstore Pixel XL for 600 bucks. Not a bad deal considering they are going for over 700 bucks on swappa. I currently have the S7 Edge and I really like having the back button on the right side of the phone but the Pixel has it on the left side of the phone... Anyway around this other than rooting and using custom ROM?

128gb model? If so, sounds good. Wouldn't bother with the 32gb as there's no sdcard slot.
Don't know about back button mods unless custom roms, etc. I always root, rom ASAP.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Multiple Roms have this feature, it's a trivial matter to read the OP of a few Roms to find out honestly.
Also, deciding on a phone based on the location of the back button is rather silly. Just because at this moment you are used to the current location of the back button does mean you can't adapt to a different orientation. A few days of use and you will get used to it.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
You can even do this on the stock rom

This was one of the things I missed the most coming from the s5. I believe there is a mod in the mods section which has the nav bar tuner but you might need root. I was also waiting for development to pick up before doing anything and now I'm on PureNexus which has the nav bar tuner. You should consider trying it out. It's 100% as stable as stock. I feel its a little snappier and the battery life is also better. Other than a few extra settings it is no different than stock.
It's available in stock firmware as well as custom firmwares. With stock, you can only accomplish this with root at the moment, until Google decides to release it's Navbar Tuner from System UI Tuner.
It would be worth rooting, changing the setting, then fully unrooting to do this IMO.
Thanks for all the replies. So is the NavBar Tuner something accessible through system UI Tuner without root? There is conflicting info about this all over the web. Some say it can be done with stock ROM w/out root, others say one must root.
I am excited for this device, it is the 32GB variant but being that I rely so much on the cloud I don't need the added storage.

You can do it without root. But you need to be unlocked and be able to temp boot twrp. From there you can move the apks manually. I know this works because my boy is using my modded system ui, settings, and framework apks using that method.

Considering buying this phone

Hey guys I've been researching about new phones since my asus zenfone 2 broke last month. So far I have only found these phones to my liking because I hate screens bigger than 6 inch and/or phones that are taller than 149 mm,: A2 lite, redmi6, redmi 7A and Nokia 5.1 plus
out of all these only nokia and a2 lite seems to be the best bang for buck, since I couldnt try nokia 5.1 plus anywhere in my coutnry : turkey, I decided to get A2 lite. I would buy 7a but the brand Redmi on the bottom of the phone is even more distracting than notch. Maybe if you have knowledge should I wait for A3 lite, if it will be less than 6 inch that is ?
My concerns are these:
- is the notch distracting when using, I have never used a notched phone before?
- for how long will this phone get updates, and is the android 9 experience stable?
- I have small hands and I wonder if this phone will be too large
I use this phone for about 4 months now. I received it with Android Oreo, but right out of the box I was prompted with the Android Pie 9.0 with April Update. The phone worked flawlessly except:
- a problem with UHC-1 SD card that was constantly unmounting and mounting that was fixed by a Class4 standard SD Card, apparently there is a problem with the power management for the UHC sd cards.
Pictures are awesome - former Sony camera user so I love the quality, the phone battery is great, 2 days minimum between charges.
The phone slightly heats up when used heavily but that is not a problem. Also gets a little warm while quick charge.
The screen notch is not a problem to be honest. It's like a normal FHD display without losing the upper part to the status bar, now with the icons placed to the left and right of the notch.
A new problem appeared this month, with the July update, when you rotate the screen from landscape to portrait the screen kinda blinks and then the animation continues.
Signal is good, wi-fi speed is ok, 4g works ok. Android 9 is stable so far for me, except the new glitch.
The big form factor of the device is not a problem to be honest, for small hands there are a few options. For example if you can't reach the status bar, you can enable the fingerprint swipe that brings notifications down and back up. From left to right, I think any small hands can reach.
Also for the accessories, the iPhone XR screen protector works just fine. And cases are cheap and good.

This is the exact problem I was looking an answer for, thanks for the detail. I really find it hard to reach for the notifications.
One last question: will this phone get the android 10 update when released?

Yes. Android One project make the manufacturer to give 2 major updates and monthly security updates. Until now, every 20th of the month we get the current month security update and some bugfixes.
This phone already got a major update which is Pie. So the last major update will be Android Q so yeah, Mi A2 Lite is on the Android Q update list.

Question Good or bad?

Well, been wanting to get a bigger screen AMOLED phone, to replace my View20.
I tend to keep my phones a long time, and I'm not so much a gamer. On a phone, that is
Red Magic 6 (non pro-version) to my eyes seems to be about the best "Bang For Buck" phone, with top of the line CPU & GPU. And a big AMOLED screen... I'd pretty much would put €600 to be the limit for price.
Support and bugs seem to be kinda the point, which still keeps me thinking. I was going to get Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. As it's €279 now here for a limited time... Then again, it has a smaller display and much weaker CPU/GPU... On that front, it's even slower than my View20...
Decisions, decisions...
What do the people here think about this dilemma?
the screen brightness only 630nits, it is not enough for using outdoor
and the ROM have many bug

Well, my View20 has: "The panel maxed out at 479 nits regardless of whether auto-brightness is enabled or not".
So it's quite much brighter than that, and it hasn't been a problem for me, even with View20.
Bugs are the things, that I'm more concerned with. Also, at the price, are there better phones. With big AMOLED displays?

To give you an idea of how buggy it is, I bricked mine doing a manual update with the software the OEM provided because the phone wouldn't pick up the update on its own.
Also, you can't change the home launcher without root and notifications are unreliable on the lock screen

I just received mine and that is false. You might not be able to use gestures, but you can change the launcher. You need to change it in the default apps. It doesn't work the normal way when opening a new launcher, but there is a way still without root.
I just use it for a month and I didn't face any issue with the latest update. It was pushed automatically via OTA. Previously, i also tried the software update version on their official website by downloading the correct version based on my region. Everything was successfully fine and it is working like the first day i was unboxing the phone.
