Will a charging port flap cover on a Motorola G7 Play case damage the device? - Moto G7 Play Questions & Answers

Will a charging port flap cover on a Motorola G7 Play case damage the device while it's charging? I have a Poetic case for my Motorola G7 Play and it has a charging port cover/flap that covers the port. When I plug the charger in the flap sort of pushed against the charging connector, will this at all damage the charging port?

Charging w/ USB cable Vs. Magnetic Dock/cable

Hi everyone
I recently came across a post where a Z1C owner mentioned that to prevent the phone from losing its "water resistance", he bought the DK32 magnetic charging dock for his phone. That made me worried, will charging the phone using USB cable everyday make the phone less water resistance? What could possibly be his/her reason behind this? The only benefit I could think of the DK32 is to make charging the phone much easier and comfortable while able to rest the phone for watching movies and stuff..... So my question is, is there a durability/longevity difference between charging the phone using USB cable or magnetic dock?
Thanks everyone :good:

The manual says that. The protector of the USB connector, has some o-ring that make the phone waterproof. So, using it too much, will gone a damage the waterproof capabillies of the phone...
There is a cheaper charging cable which works very well so no need to spend extra bucks on the dock. I use it on my Z1c and it works very well.

Using USB cable everday means that you have to frequently open the USB Cover flap. If the seal ring of the USB cover flap worn, the water resistance will lose until you replace a new one.

Budget magnetic charging cable

I want to buy a magnetic charger and I live in India and very low quality cables are available on the local websites. I have looked for cables on eBay.com which ship to my location but I don't know which one to buy. I need your opinions. My maximum budget is 12$(incl. shipping).
The WSKEN Cable is available at my location. Is the cable worth buying?
Thanks in advance.
I got wsken magnetic cable, and its build quality is fine, but magnet is not that strong - its even weaker than another fake original sony cable i got. But if you just use it to charge your phone without using it, it can do the job.
I wouldnt recommend one with a very strong magnet. There have been some horror stories of the storng magnet PULLING the phones charge port completely out. I got a fairly weak one from amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UOVZOBK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Fits perfectly with my Cruzerlite TPU case. I even have EXTRA room for clearance. Magnet isnt the strongest which makes me happy as I only charge at night when I'm sleeping as the phone lasts through the day for me.
Yup, it happened to me. I use a Magnector adaptor and it is very strong, after a while the whole connector came off as there was simply a VERY thin acrylic glue foam tape (VHB ?) holding it and keeping water off. By thin I do not mean the thickness but the actual long side surface
The good news is that the connection with the internal PCB board are spring loaded, so I put it back in place and tested it then used a needle to put some cyanoacrlylate glue to hold it, it never came out again and the phone still look ok. Now I always try to removing it with a twisting motion just in case...
It is hard for me to understand how they can claim waterproof and use such thin gasket but I still like this phone a lot!
hmm dont think I'll be getting a magnetic charger any time soon then if it comes off that easily. >_<
It's just the Magnector adapter that seems to do that. None of the others are strong enough to pull the connector off of the phone.
I just bought an OEM one from aliexpress for only $2.71 US. btw you only save .03 if you use the mobile app
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...a-Z1-Charger-Adapter/1775016_32429292298.html
I also have a generic magnetic charger. The one with a circle blue LED in the part near the magnet. I found that it charges slowly compared to the OEM usb cable that came in the box. I used the same OEM charger for both tests.
Charging via magnetic cable is roughly 60-70% of the speed of normal USB charging. Is this just me that I have a low quality cable or is it really that much slower?
I tried two Magnetic cables but they don't work on my Z3 Compact because pins are not aligned with phone and charging not working probably because there is no contact. Actually i got one with LED indicator to work several times but on slightly move it stops charging and it is hard to get it to charge again so I gave up on these cables.
I bought original Sony DK48 Dock and it's working out of the box. Only issue is that I need to remove protective case before charging because with it phone won't fit in Dock. It almost fits so I'll probably try to modify larger adapter so phone can fit with case...
I received my DK48 dock and magnetic cable from Ali Express and they both work great. The charging cable ($2.71) matches the pins perfectly so doesn't appear to be a knock-off. I have a Devilcase bumper and works with the DK48 dock also with the case on--just attach the included back rest. It takes me a few times to get it aligned perfectly to charge but works.
I'm using this cheap one and it works great for me. Magnet is ok so you can even move your phone as long as the cable is parallel to your phone.

I'm have WSKEN X-cable Easy Version, and it's great.
You can also try WSKEN X-CABLE DOUBLE METAL which has a charge indicator led.
Both cables charge my device faster than original Xperia Z2 charger and magnet is not too weak/too powerful.
Check WSKEN website for details.
I've tried several magnetic chargers and adapters and always facing the same problem, too weak magnet and if the phone is moved even an inch the cable falls off. Finally I got WSKEN X-CABLE for 7$ and that did the trick, everything works great including fast charging. You can literally hold your phone up in the air by the charger. And no, the magnet is not too strong as described in previous posts, with a slight pull it comes off without breaking the phones charging port. There is even a little plastic widget included to attach the cable into the right position angle and you can perfectly use the phone while charging. Cable literally melted into my phone while charging

What should I do now? I bought the device on Gearbest.

I don't think you can do anything. You were not using the original charger so most likely any warranty claims will be rejected.
Yup, not a stock cable there. Try to remove it gently with pliers. And buy Anker cable
The best advice is to try your best to clear it up. Hope hard that it didn't break the port...
And I also stand by Anker charging cables. Get ones CERTIFIED for quick charge 3 if you want to use the stock charger.
Really sucks but that's what the cheap cables do with the higher voltage / amps of new phones
That happens when you use cheap cables.
Most damage seems to be cosmetic and to the plastic cover of the Mi6 and the cable itself. With care remove the cable and melted plastic

Wireless charging.

I was able to figure out a wireless charging option using two accessories.
Spigen case I posted: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B081TL7299/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Nillkin Qi Wireless Charger Receiver (Make sure you get the Type-C short version): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TXNJXFM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
It's a tight fit but it works. it creates a little bulge on the back of the phone and blocks the Moto logo and what looks like a mic hole on the rear but I couldn't find it listed in the manual.
The drawbacks is it's only a 1 watt charger so slow charging only and it blocks the usb-c port with no way to unplug unless you take the case off first.

I am wondering if we can get something like this and manually replace the adapter to USB C, is it doable with help from someone who knows how to do the wiring?

Is there a way to add wireless charging to this device?

Whether it be an internal wireless receiver or external usb c receiver. Most external usb c receivers are at the minimum 3.9" tall which seems to be the issue.
You can, but...

You can get an Ultra Thin USB-C Qi Wireless Charging Adapter, and you could install it on the phone and keep it hidden and in place by getting a Razr phone case. I plugs into the USB-C charging port and the thin flat ribbon cable has a 90 degree bend to it. I used this coil adapter before on a convention smartphone years back, the only drawback is that your USB-C on the phone will be occupied by the coil. Wireless charging is slower than traditional USB-C charging.
Cheers,

I'm aware of that but the issue is most of these are at least 4" in height which would cover the fingerprint sensor.
Find the shortest version, and if need be you can cut it to streamline it.
The ribbon cable has some flex to it, and if you use a heat gun you can bend the flex cable like an accordion to reduce length. You could also diminish the height of the coil pack by cutting it. Since the phone has a glass back, and your "sandwiching" it with a case, there is no fear of creating a short when charging.

Wouldn't cutting it cause it to malfunction? Also, do you mean use a heat gun to fold it in half? Do you have illustrations?
I think he meant to cut the edge to make the fingerprint reader completely clear, but not to cut too much to avoid the coil, and I'm assuming he meant to fold the cable in half.
Another point besides the charging speed is the heat that the coil produces.

Just a few questions. Where can the wireless adapter in this picture be purchased (link)? It looks like the usb dongle is too long to fit properly on the phone since the adapter is shifted below the fingerprint sensor. Does this wireless adapter work good on the device without overheating?

Link does not open... Please supply some info to find it
I see this for Barbuda nut only comes with lightning connector... would need USB-C & only 5v so... I would still buy one at that folds its level because I don't really care if it's fast charges because I leave the thing on the stand overnight and it may actually be better for the battery to slow charge.
I played around with this as well. I was able to trim the one I'll link below to the right size. The key is to not cut the coil, the rest seems like it can be cut without a problem. In the end I didn't like not having access to the USB-C port. But it was a fun pandemic project.

As for the one I cited above with lightning connector... maybe someone here knows how to suggest they make one for USB-C ??

I'm a little late to the party here, you can solder in a wireless coil to the inside of the phone. The best coil I could find is this 7.5W (5V 1.5A) coil. There's a 10W (9V) option, but it would require addition circuitry to use in a phone.
The external plug-in solution is by far the easiest option, but it has too many flaws: blocks usb port, protrudes too much, fragile- must be kept inside a cover to protect it, most put out 2.5-5W, and it looks horrible.
Heres the link for the internal coil. If its unavailable at the time of reading this, on aliexpress, search for "7.5w wireless coil".

And here's a youtube link showing installation. You can skip half of it. aim is to tap it to the ribbon carrying the charging from the usb.
It does require some understanding of basic circuitry and soldering... not for everyone.
Ive just bought the new Razr 2022, and will be installing it on that.
Just keep in mind that the RAZR has two batteries, and getting it apart isn't for the faint of heart.
It's also one thing to get apart, and another thing getting it back together..
Just advice, but definitely watch anything you can get your hands on before tackling, and good luck.
