What variant is recommended? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I have att network and I'm interested in buying the note 10+ 5g but can't figure out which variant is better. Which one would be the one that developers would probably be doing roms for in your opinions? Or if I buy a SM-N976B I can flash SM-N976n custom firmware?

Anybody? Or it doesn't matter?

That's a 4g model... I'm asking about the 5g version
To my understanding there's the SM-N976B, SM-N976F and SM-N976N versions... There is also a SM-N9760 d/S version... Don't know what would be the better international version to buy. Can anybody elaborate?
EDIT: which one would be the "global" version? Can't find this info anywhere
EDIT 2: Can anyone confirm the n976b is the better global factory unlocked version? I just saw it covers more bands than the rest in this link

The SM-N976F and SM-N9760/DS would be your global unlocked versions. The N976F uses the slightly slower Exynos and the N9760 uses the Snapdragon. Both allow you to unlock the bootloader. I went with the regular Note 10 + SM-N9750/DS, it works great on T-Mobile for me.

N9760 is the 5G Chinese variant that has dual sim. You are unlikely to find that outside of China and you will miss out on Google Play Store.
There isn't one 5G variant that is global since none of the variant covers all 5G bands around the world. Heck, even the US versions have 2 variants for compatibility with different carriers.

yup, that would be software related but the 5G network compatibility would be the hard problem to solve.

Since we're talking about if I were able to get a Chinese version... I would just need to make sure the bands are the same right?

What I am saying is that the 5G technologies won't be the same around the world thus it wouldn't be a global phone no matter which variant you get.

Also, in terms of rooting & custom ROMs, Exynos variants are more likely to have it than Snapdragons.

I'm in UK and refuse to buy anything exynos. Hence why I own a N9750 Snapdragon note 10+ imported from HK
No issues with anything in the UK. Samsung pay, WiFi calling, volte all work OK
Hate the fact Samsung give us in Europe an inferior SoC

With our phones, we could download the official "google s4" rom whenever google releases it, and put our device in download mode and install the rom on stock with/without out root?
it sure does.. but it will prob be a port.. we'll see!

I would imagine that someone amazing dev will port the rom to all variants of the S4. us on Tmobile or ATT will prob have the easiest job of getting the rom and radio working since its identical hardware. i know i'll be moving to pure vanilla android once its out!
the only apps i really want from touchwiz are the S Health apps and WatchOn and perhaps the camera app.
True...
But I would think that if we could download the official rom directly, then we can get timely updates like the Google edition with out root.
Are the AT&T and TMO GS4 truly identical? Radio Frequencies and everything?

I compaired the AT&T and the TMO spec pages on the carier websites, and it seems TMO has way more frequencies than AT&T. So would I be better off getting a TMO S4 and hoping for google, or an AT&T S4? I'm on AT&T, so it needs to work seamlessly on that network.

If the hardware is identical to the US Snapdragon variants then that's all we have to do but since we don't have the system specs, we can only speculate at this present time.

ATT TMO
4G-LTE Band 4 and 17 Band 1 (2100), 2 (1900), 4 (1700/2100), 5(850), 7 (2600) & 17
3G 850/1900/2100MHz I (UMTS 2100), II (1900), IV (1700/2100/AWS), V (850)
GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz 850/900/1800/1900MHz

I'm just guessing here but they are identical, AT&T disabled frequencies that TMO has on. I think that is the only difference. AT&T Note 2 was able to be used on TMO after you turned on frequencies that were disable so I'm guessing it's the same thing this time.
If you want an unlocked bootloader & a phone that supports all or majority of the bands, then TMO is the way to go at this present moment. If you don't care for unlocked bootloader (which will be unlocked soon) & disabled bands, then AT&T model is the way to go.
The T-mobile s4 is a penta-band phone same as the T-mobile htc one so its supports all frequencies

but is it pentaband by hardware or software? Assuming the fact tha the bootloader will likely be unlocked pretty soon, couldn't a new radio unlock some of these other frequencies too?
All good info to know.

I'm assuming we'll have the same hardware, so will it be safe to say that we have a Google phone now.

Just thinking about it, Google probably wouldn't want to tell existing T-Mobile customers to put your phone in download mode to push the official google rom, so that you could get a stock official rom directly from Google. But doing that could cause a bunch of issues, seems like you can.
Just thinking out loud lol.

This is good news for all Snapdragon (im assuming google edition is powered by Snapdragon SoC) GS4's because now the GS4 will be in the AOSP with official support (for the google model) , which means that with some small (or possibly none for Tmobile+at&t model) changes AOSP code could be built for the Snapdragon S4 using nothing more than the stock AOSP code. This would also mean more stable, and less work for community developers to get AOSP based roms for this phone.

I agree with you. This is great news. Just think of how easy it will be to get all the great roms on here. No (major) porting, all the source is there. I would think it's on the same S4 as the GS4. This is a great day for all owners of the GS4. But is does have some trade off's. The stock GS4 Rom is pretty dope. Kinda at that point where Stock is awesome as hell. Just needs a little tweaking, just cause.

Difference Single- / Dual-SIM Note7

As with the Note5, the Note7 comes with different SIM models, some with single SIM, where you can add an SDcard in the second slot and the DUOS models, where you can add a second SIM or an SDcard to the second slot.
Does someone know, what's the physical difference between the two systems? From a manufacturing point of view, it doesn't make sense to produce two systems that are so similar.
And, if it will be implemented the same way as on the Note5, even the firmware for both systems should be the same.
I wonder, if it is really necessary to buy a DUOS - eg an N930FD - instead of a N930F to use two SIM cards.
Anyone here, how knows the difference between the two systems?

i want to know this too. More importantly (for me) will it work properly on AT&T?
ON EBAY it lists the following bands:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Samsung...hash=item3ac95b11b6:m:mv6a3OIYs0V1HNlXutJQbkA :
LTE 2100 (B1), 700 (B17), 850 (B5), 1700/2100 (B4), 1800 (B3), 2600 (B7), 1900 (B2), 800 (B18), 900 (B8), 800 (B20), 700 (B12), 800 (B26), 800 (B19)
Does that include all the AT&T LTE bands?

The tray is different, so you would at least have to get a SIM tray from a Duos version.

I don't think that the "non duos" version can take two sim card, the second sim card sensor is probably not there. Anyway it could be interesting to try to use two sims in a single sim version with a tray from the duos version. But yes, you have been able to use "single sim" firmware on the dual sim version of previous models, so you will probably also be able to on this one.
Thank you, obviously, the tray is different than the DUOS tray from the Note5 ... Will be difficult to find a tray to try ourt
If someone herecould try it out someday, that would be great.
However, I guess it would be difficult to find a place to buy a tray, if the DUOS one would work in the single SIM Note7.
What do you think?
Is there a difference between the bands in the FD dual sim and the F single sim variant?
I'm a frequent US/Asia traveler but I can't find the Duos model in Blue on eBay.

You could probably check the frequencies to make sure that it had the correct once. The S7 Edge had a wide set of frequencies supported, and I am thinking that the same will be the case here. It is the same model being available in many regions.
I have found two third party pages specifying the frequencies, however it is third parts so it is no 100% validated. Site 1 and Site 2

Yes, I think it would be quite hard to get the tray - and I dont think it would work. But if I god the phone and know someone with the single sim, I would probably check
Thanks, EMF
My guess is, both systems are basically the same (DUOS). However, as especially european carriers won't sell DUOS systems to maximize their profits, Samsung made a special tray that doesn't allow to add a second SIM. It's the easiest way to deliver a single SIM device.
As soon as both systems are available, someone will find out, if my guess is right or wrong ...
I ended up using frequencycheck.com to confirm my research and I ordered a n930fd as well as the T-mobile version here in California.
Hope it can help someone else out.
But if I find someone around here with the n930f NON DUOS, I will go ahead and try swapping sim trays and reply back here!

i read somewhere on s7 edge DUOS forum, the explanation is, DUOS model has 2nd IMEI. so, if you have non duos, then you only have 1 IMEI, thus to put 2nd SIM despite you use correct SIM tray, it will not work.

Hey Travis, I think the T-Mobile US version no longer comes with the Unlocked bootloader anymore :'(! I believe they stopped doing this since the S7. Of course, we won't know for sure until someone gets their actual unit, but based on the S7 and S7 Snapdragon trends, it's safe to conclude that. Of course I tried asking the T-Mobile store rep and he was like, "Boooottloooaaderrrr??" SMH...!

For just using if you have AT&T and want 100% use, buy the USA version. If you use T-Mobile buy the N930FD for unlocked development. In the end I would say dont use AT&T cause the only model that works 100% is locked and may not get development support unless they can bypass that.
I'm getting the Dual SIM version FYI. I use T-mobile.

For the S8, I read that the Snapdragon variants sold in China (and even HK) had unlocked bootloaders. Is that again the case for the S9?

Too soon to tell but likely yes.
Keep in mind however that those models are pretty much unpopular (no idea why) and rarely see any type of development. So you have an unlocked BL but nothing to flash which sucks.

All the US and CAN snapdragons will be locked down tight and a waste of money if you want proper root, twrp erc. its so easy to buy exynos why bother with the snapdragon version unless your on cdma?

Exynos doesn't have the exclusive US LTE Bands. For the S9 I see Bands 14, 30 and 71 are all missing. This is a major problem since the US carriers will be shifting more traffic onto exclusive bands.

I live in Canada so have no idea about US bands although i know they have always lacked some for Tmobile. Guys dont seem to have had issues running exynos in the US over the years though?
Ive never had any issues here with exynos at any rate

Global ROM in China?

Hi guys, I would like to buy the S20 Ultra version in China from Samsung Store, to get the Snapdragon, but will be the Chinese ROM on it. Do you know if is possible to request to Samsung to have the Global ROM version? Or to install it at the moment of the purchase? Otherwise how can I solve this problem? Will be easy to do it by myself? Since is a expensive smartphone I don't want make any mistake..
Thanks for your help!!

Likely not. Hong Kong should get the SnapDragon. The Global model should be Exynos. Can't interchange the ROMs for it. Needs to be confirmed, but likely The snap dragon will behave better RF and battery wise. Maybe not a huge difference as with some older chipsets, but something to keep in mind. While Hong Kong may not get the OTA updates as frequently, you get a dual sim SnapDragon model.
hope this helps.

The Ultra international version is likely SM-G988F/DS, where the SnapDragon Hong Kong/Taipei version could be SM-G9880/DS.

The chinese versions typically have wireless bands that aren't supported in the US so I wouldn't use that. However, the Korean Version *will* use the snapdragons this year, and should be completely unlocked. Those should be fully compatible. I bought a Korean Note 8 because that was the only one which came in 256gb and the rare blue color and I've had no issues. It was Exynos, though. I'm hoping a lot of people in the developer community will buy this unlocked snapdragon version but I may not be so lucky. I might be forced to purchase the european "global" version.
Perfect!! Thanks, I will buy it in South Korea. Unfortunately they did it in only 2 colours this time...

Not sure which spec sheet you have seen. The SM-G9880 from Hong Kong should cover all the North American bands. AWS may be missing, I see it on some lists and not on others. I would be surprised if the Korean N version is better than a global F or Hong Kong’s 9880 version. I expect the 9880 to be similar to the U version but in dual sim format.

Yeah, I could be mistaken. My hope is just that with the Korean version also using snapdragon this year, people will be more open to buying that version over the International F. Development should be much easier and last longer with a snapdragon.

I hear you. I wish the Exynos was better, we’ll see what this new SoC will do, but the biggest hurdle as I understand it, it’s licensing and regulatory. I’m sure SAMSUNG would prefer to make a single version for the globe and just apply CSCs for customizing. To me, carrier and market demands are crazy. Single va dual sim, price, customizations, band support and features. If you put dual sim for everyone, a region will ask for a cheaper single sim. There’s no way around it, it’s insane.

Has anyone found the network specs for this model?
I need the LTE and 5G band list.

Here’s the official band list from the Samsung China e-store. The 5G bands listed are more limited than what the Techwalls site says for GM-9880 (doesn’t support the US 5G bands listed there). The 5G bands listed are the same as the China Note 10+ 5G version, so it might be right. I was hoping it supported all the same US model 5G bands, but not sure now. If anyone has an actual G9880, sharing the real bands via an app would be great.

I think one of these apps will give you information of which 5G bands you are connected to. I thought there was an app where u could select different bands and force it, but maybe not or it has to be done manually. It looks like you are on T-mobile, so maybe you could try different areas/towers and different bands to test. On the Play store, there are also a few other 5G apps with maps of the different towers that can help you get close to test the high or low 5G bands. Thanks for your contribution. I’m really curious if both the high bands and low bands for T-mobile are supported on the 9880.

Do you want the following information?
I live in Taiwan, the phone model is SM-G9800
Taiwan ’s current telecom operators have not yet provided 5G services
If you need to provide other information, I will try my best to assist you
same issue here... got TGY on my 9800, i live in Switzerland and should get 5g or even 5g+ but nothing... i guess it's a frequency issue.
Now my question is : can we change the frequencies of the 5g on the phone?
Would anyone know if the sm-g9880 snapdragon model the 256gb 5g would work in Australia ? I think we use band 78? I can't find any details anywhere.

How are you able to get that? What app is that ?
My model is the sm-g9880 Taiwan firmware.
I tried to download the hongkong firmware but it didn't change the CSC for some reason. I did a full reset.
I thought maybe it's the firmware that's not approved for 5g yet because apparently Taiwan hasn't activated 5g yet.

My G9880 was originally csc BRI but I have changed the csc to TGY using Samkey as 5G hasn't been activated on the BRI model yet but was activated on the last update for TGY.

mmWave requires a dedicated antenna, in place of that there is just a useless piece of plastic in the Sub-6 only versions (just watch a couple teardown videos, they'll notice/explain that).

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
Any ideea if there is a software difference between GLUOG and G8VOU ?
Looking to get G8VOU to use with Bell Canada.
I travel across borser a lot.
I currently have a Note 20 Ultra 5G "U1" version, from US and Bell Canada won't recognize the TAC and cannot get 5G in Canada or register with ATT or Verizon since no IMS registration allowed by Bell Canada because of the XAA CSC. So basically can't use it with Canadian Carriers. No options to flash it with a "W" firmware either. Thank you Samsung.
Looking to leave Samsung and get a Pixel 6 pro but wanted the G8VOU for 260 261 band.
Any thoughts, will the G8VOU will work with Canadian carriers ?

There are no software differences, both variants run the same firmware.
You're gonna be between a rock and a hard place though.
The rock is that you can use the G8V0U on Bell however you might only get 3G.
I checked the IMEI for a Pixel 6 and it said it would be Sub-6 compatible. I checked the IMEI for a Pixel XL and it said it would be LTE compatible. However, when checking with an IMEI for a G8V0U it only said HSPA compatible, nothing about LTE or Sub-6.
No guarantees about LTE support, which by extension means no guarantees about IMS, even if Bell doesn't have whitelists.
The hard place is that if you were to instead get a GLU0G for Sub-6 and IMS support in Canada you'd be on the reverse end of the stick in the US as both AT&T and Verizon operate whitelists.
AT&T only allows the G8V0U for IMS, and because AT&T is an IMS only network now there is no way to use the GLU0G.
Verizon is still running their CDMA network but it doesn't matter because their entire network is whitelisted and they don't allow the GLU0G.
Your best bet if you want a Pixel is to get a Pixel 6 GB7N6 which can be bought unlocked from the Google Store and will work on all networks in the US and Canada although it only has Sub-6 and not mmWave.

For which hardware?
GLU0G roaming in the US should be supported according to Bell with LTE/VoLTE/Sub-6.
G8V0U roaming in the US will not work because you need IMS, and Bell doesn't provide that with the G8V0U.

Ok, that is what I was afraid of. I appreciate your reply. I guess no matter if it's Samsung or Google, it has to be a Canadian version in order to avoid all the hassle I am putting up with now.
I am in US now, using Note 20 5G U1, and can only register on Tmobile for voice and get only 3G. ATT will let me register but only getting LTE data and text but cannot place or recieve calls.
Verizon, lets me register for a few seconds then kicks me out.
I was looking for an answer about what device to buy and I was hoping Google's story was going to be different but from what you've described, I see no difference between them.
Bell support was "0" since not a device that they sold.
So I guess I'll have to chose between S22 W and GLU0G.

iPhones have different variants for countries that haven't certified mmWave or have other frequency restrictions but Apple mandates that carriers support all variants that have basic support for their frequencies.
USA variant iPhones have mmWave that can't be used in Canada. 100% band support on Bell and might miss a single band on others but still work completely fine in Canada.
Canada/Japan variant iPhones don't have mmWave, will 100% work in Canada, have all bands for AT&T and Verizon, except the 11/12 miss a single band on T-Mobile but will still have service.
Both variants will roam in any combination, but a USA variant won't gain mmWave when roaming in the US as Bell doesn't have mmWave roaming contracts with carriers.
