You should return it. IDK how or why you would think this phone would have room development so quick and the phone just came out.

I think asked what I asked wrong. I meant more in the manner of.. does anyone think in the future months this device will receive the same attention as the 7 pro. The only reason I got the T over pro was I use snap chat alot and didn't know how well the moving camera would hold up.

I honestly think we would have a good amount of rom development because of the price of the phone and the specs you get for the price is pretty much unmatched. In some cases our phone is better than the 7 Pro.
I honestly wanted the Pixel 4 XL but once I saw the specs and the price I was like no way. Just have patience and I'm sure you'll be rewarded.

haha! The phone barely came out. Just wait. Official ROMs will come and then the developers will move to it and we'll have an abundance of custom roms you can pick from all day long.
This is a great phone so we don't have to worry about this

Just hang in there and good stuff will happen on XDA...

Good to hear. This is my first one plus device and didn’t know how much development goes on. I’ve always owned Samsung where I never worried about development ?

IDK what's the last Samsung phone you've had but development is non-existent for Samsung thanks to Knox.

Android 10 has changed a lot with devices launched with it, so development such as TWRP will probably take some time.
However, kernels can be unified with the 7 Pro series, ElementalX has added test support for 7T series.

Kernel's will be unified even though the devices technically run different chips?

if you want to have an idea just check out the 5T and 6T XDA forums, see how much development are still going on.
My 5T currently is running a custom Android 10 ROM which is perfectly stable, its amazing

[Q] Any Prospects for Dev Support?

Am seriously considering this for my next phone. Does anyone know if any devs will soon be supporting this device? I'm not one to have blind faith.

I doubt it. If you want roms, you should look at the HTC one, gs4 or note 2. This phone isn't popular enough probably because it launched so close to the other big ones and is only available on att.

I dunno. @thecubed doesn't own this phone and @designgears mentioned that he bought it because of the locked bootloader, implying be didn't want to flash stuff. Then again, he essentially let cubed brick his phone so apparently his addiction still had him in a strangle hold.
It will happen, but how long and when it does how many roms will we see.
I'm mainly looking for the ability to restore my phone if I bootloop which I already have.

Sounds like a problem for the S4 not sure if it will implicate us here on the S3. And yeah, the firmware version is skipping from 4.1.2 to 4.3 and leaving the 4.2.x branch out completely which I think was a genius move. At least we won't be too far behind when Kitkat is released.

It is a problem on the S4. But it's in the bootloader, just firmware updates.... well update. Just something to watch out for, I guess.

Yeah. The weird thing about that bootloader update though is I thought the S4 was meant to be an open device hence the fact there's a Google edition. That's a bit weird. If they keep this up we may see an influx of users continue onward to HTC and Sony which as of late have been working with the community.

Chainfire warned us about all this two years ago. And I'm sure it'll affect us too.
4.3 will have selinux enabled for us as well. Plus we have had a pretty good view of the fact that Sammys built-in warranty killers have been evolving with each upgrade. We will just have to be careful when updating is all. Dont do the full update. Hopefully most of the restrictions will be in the bootloader...wishful thinking, I know! But not allowing us to downgrade once we've updated??? That's just wrong! What if 4.3 sucks?! As that article pointed out, their reason for updating the S3 in the first place is likely just to sell more Gears.
One things for sure, it ought to be interesting!
I hate when developer friendly companies turn out to be not so friendly.

I think we can call it confirmed as it every source site i read says about the same thing.
http://www.androidauthority.com/android-4-3-coming-to-samsung-galaxy-s3-and-s4-next-month-263690/
The worst problem we have to face is the fact Samsung is a successful entity in the mobile industry. Will other open-source Android OEM's follow suit in an attempt to stay as close to Samsung as possible and as a result, start closing their sources, and locking down the bootloader?
My hope is that other companies do just the opposite. A smaller company could gain more traction and do it faster if they become known as developer friendly. (As long as the devices are competitive as well of course). Then they'd have people from forums such as these begin to take notice. And how many of us have had friends and family ask for our advice or recommendations? It seems to me that'd be a good start.
Another point against companies such as Samsung doing things like locking us down that I rarely see discussed, is how much free support is given for their products! Turn on the dev community and they lose a lot of that benefit as well! I know there were a lot of people who stopped buying HTC because they made it so difficult to do anything! I know I was one!
I know we are a very small percentage of their overall consumer base, but I do think we still have enough influence that we ought not be ignored! It seems they may disagree though.....Or maybe I'm just wrong!

This is why I am usually reluctant to update and try to wait a bit before I do. I think that even before they get an upgrade off the ground there may be workarounds and hacks for all of their insipid douchebaggery. Regardless, you have got to love Chainfire for all his work in making their stupid little efforts come to nought.
Make something hackproof, make better hackers. I'd rather they not lock the bootloaders on the new update, otherwise I may have to just stick with AOSP for new versions. In that case, might as well upgrade my phone to something not so Samsung.

Can someone please explain this to me? I am confused as to why there is so little development for the phone. Not whining, because The phone works pretty damn well as stock. Just find it odd there is little to no development. I came from a Note II and there was a TON of options for that one.

Honestly though that hasn't really been my experience in the past. My sprint Note II had all kinds of development! I am just extremely surprised to see little to no development for the flagship phone - especially no CM. I havn't checked, but do other carriers have more development for their s6? Does CM exist on any s6 variant?
As a side note, I am very happy with the phone either way. I got the free hot spot mod without root and I live in an area with sprint spark - which is insanely fast. I think Sprint has come a long way with their service actually, and I am quite pleased for the most part. But still curious about the lack of dev.

It was reported to the moderators to move the thread to the Q&A section, which I have now moved it to.
It's been two hours and still no N preview for OP3
I thought we had great developers.
So disappointed.
Seriously, instead of waiting @ShadowRii you still have the time to learn how to port a rom, the difficulty and complexity, the knowledge and time required, the sleepless nights...simply to get something that maybe boots but still unusable as a 'daily driver'. Maybe you will realise it's not worth it. Just be patient, the final version of N is coming soon, the source code will be released and a few weeks/months after that you'll be able to enjoy android N on your OP3.

TWRP For Pixel 2 XL

Wondering if the TWRP for the original Pixel XL will work on the Pixel XL 2?
No....
give the devs time and twrp for pxl2 will be out.
The correct one will be out in due time...
Thanks
Is there a specific place we should watch to know when TWRP gets released?
I forgot how awful it was to have half of every article I read being advertisements. LOL

I haven't tried AdClear. I gave Block-This a shot but AdGuard is far better. At the moment I'm on Adguards 7 day premium trial. Not sure how much functionality will be lost with the free version. I'll wait and see but if root doesn't come soon I may spring for $24.00 subscription. I love to tweak almost everything but so far the only thing I've missed about not having root is adaway and AriseV4A.
