I bricked phone
I bought my phone in India so I presume that it is indian variant. First installed TWRP and LOS and everything was ok. Then tried with magisk but got ERROR 1 cannot mount system. So I taught that maybe flashing the latest firmware will change something. So I flashed firmware. And brick. I attach photos. Please kindly help me

FIXED
I unbricked the device by "unbrick" guide
But why there is problem with flashing magisk?

Hi all. I'm considering buying this phone but bootloader & root is a must.
It's possible to unlock bootloader in the EU (global) version? I read that EU and India versions are the same but I'm not 100% sure about this.
Does anyone from Europe unlocked it?
Regards

O E M unlock
In my Indian Rm5P /Settings/Additional Settings/Developers Options there is a provision for enabling O E M Unlock. What is this meant for? Whether I have to enable this before starting the in-depth tool?Or whether the BootLoader will be unlocked automatically if I enable this?
---------- Po

If I unlock bootloader and flash TWRP, this TWRP can be used as my stock recovery further flashing zips(not custom ROMs)? Also will Bank apps work in this set up without any problems?

For better understanding, I highly recommend you to watch the above video along with the instructions below:
1.) Download ‘Fastboot Drivers And Pacakges File For Xperia S’ file from → Here
2.) Extract the file you downloaded above on your PC. You’ll get the following three files:
drivers.zip
fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.zip
3.) Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and read everything!
This will open a web page in your default browser. Scroll to the bottom of the Instructions on the page and you’ll see a link like “Continue”, click on it.
In the pop-up window click “Yes, I’m sure” and then in the next window click on both the checkboxes, and then click “I accept”.
4.) Now insert the details as per the instructions:
First 14 digits of your IMEI No. Do NOT enter the last digit (15th) in the box. To know your IMEI No. dial *#06# on your Xperia Arc.
Your Name
Your Email Address
Click Submit.
5.) You’ll get a KEY to unlock boot loader. Write it down somewhere you can remember, it will be used later.
6.) Switch off your phone.
7.) Now extract the “fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.zip” file you got in Step 2.2.
8.) Pick up your phone (it must be switched off) and hold the “Menu” button (the key at the bottom right of your phone), now while holding the “Menu” button connect your phone to your PC with an USB cable.
9.) Once connected — the LED light near the phone’s USB plug will turn blue. If it doesn’t — repeat the Step 8.
10.) Now to install the drivers do the following:
Extract the “drivers.zip” file you got in Step 2.1
Open “Device Manager” on your PC and look for “S1Boot Fastboot” under the head “Other devices”
Right-click on “S1Boot Fastboot” and select “Update Driver Software…”
Now select “Browse my computer for driver software” and select the folder where you’ve extracted all the three files you got in Step 2. Once done — click Ok.
Now click Next (Make sure you’ve ticked the “Include subfolders” checkbox).
If you see any Windows security warning box, don’t worry . Just select “Install this driver software anyway”
Wait for “Windows has successfully updated your driver software” message to appear on your screen. Now click Close.
11.) Open the “fastboot” folder from the file we extracted in Step 7.
12.) Now hold Shift and press mouse right click (Shift + Mouse Right Click) anywhere on the empty white space inside the “fastboot” folder. And then select “Open command window here” from the context menu.
13.) Now in the command prompt window type/paste the following:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
14.) It should return a value like “0.3”. This ensures that your device is correctly connected.
15.) Now type/paste the following line in the command prompt window:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY
IMPORTANT! Replace the word “KEY” from the above line with the KEY that you received in Step 5. Then Hit Enter.
Click to collapse
16.) Now wait for the process to complete. Command prompt will show a “Finished” message when it will be completed.
17.)Once it’s done, disconnect the USB cable from your phone and switch it ON.
18.)Your phone’s boot loader should now be Unlocked.

Troubleshooting
If you experience a bootloop (phone constantly reboots and reboots on the boot screen) or a soft brick (powering on the phone shows an orange triangle with a phone and computer), don’t be afraid. XDA to the rescue!
For a bootloop:
Hold The Power Button And Volume Up Button
If You Hold For 3 Seconds = Soft Reset = 1 Viberation
If You Hold For 10 Seconds = Hard Reset = 3 Viberations***
Power on the Phone Again, Keep pressing Volume Up Button
Your phone will boot into recovery.
Select “Wipe data/ Factory reset”. (Volume Up for going up and Volume down to go down)
After the reset is done, select “Reboot system now”.
The phone will reboot and you should be all fine.
***Do Not Try Hard Reset Untill And Unless The Phone is Facing Major Problems,
For a soft brick:
You probably flashed some faulty firmware or firmware not meant for your device.
The File You Downloaded Must Be Incomplete.
Download the correct firmware and flash again.

Hi, I searched a lot for the way to flash a custom rom on my Xperia S. But now halfway through, I've got a problem. My device says it does not allow to unlock bootloader, so does that mean that there is no way I can flash a custom rom on my phone? :crying:

You can use only Stock based ROM for locked bootloaders, not the unlocked bootloaders one.

Wait i will let you know the complete story.
so what happened is
first i was on CM11 for few mnths then switched to MIUIv5 for 1 month. everything was working fine
but when day before yesterday i flashed PA rom i am not able to access the recovery now (previously there was TWRP in my XS). now i can't flash any zip file
when i reboot to recovery it gets stuck on black blank screen. Even the recovery apps like twrp are not working. when i tried to install recovery through app, the app crashes.
As recovery is not working i cant even switch to other roms or any zip file.
i am totally stuck on this ROM
i asked this que on sony mobile group on FB (created by some sony fans), one of the member said "probably this is not ROM fault but the kernel fault. consider trying new kernel"

Ah yes, even that one doesn't have recovery.
Unlocked bootloader is must.
You need an Android app. You can find the app here. Also, here is the page of the twrp.
What You need to do is, download the twrp from here. Rename it to fotakernel.img .
Then copy it to Your sdcard.
Then run the following commands on the terminal emulator app:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/fotakernel.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
TWRP installed!

[GUIDE] HOW to FLASH latest WW/CN/TW | ROOT | UNBRICK |

I. Before You Begin Doing Anything
**As with all of these types of tutorials, this may void the warranty of your device. Do it at your own risk.
**Download and install the Asus USB Drivers on your PC, if you haven’t done so yet.
**This should only work on a Windows based PC only.
II. Downloading Required Files
** Necessary tools and Drivers - Mediafire Folder
**Latest OTA form ASUS website : WW_2.17.40.12
** Boot.img, Droidboot.img and Recovery.img from this MEGA Drive posted by Chinaphonearena user and belong to Shakalaca.
** System.img - if you want your phone ROOTed on latest ASUS ZF2 Firmware.
III. Yeah! Im ready to do it
**Plug in your device to your PC using a USB cable.
**Boot your device to fastboot mode Power + Vol Up to enter Bootloader Mode
**Hold down Shift and Right-Click anywhere in Fastboot Folder on your PC and select Open command here. It will launch a Command Prompt Window for you to issue commands to your device.
**When it launches, type in the following command and press Enter (.img files has to be in same folder as fastboot tools):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img - droidboot.img is fastboot, and if you somehow will flash corrupted image, you won't be able to boot to fastboot anymore. Thanks to sorg
fastboot flash system system.img - Only if you use Pre-ROOTed system image from MEGA Drive.
IV. Ready to go with OTA!
** Upload WW_2.17.40.12 or latest Firmware OTA ( Full firmware ) file to phone storage (Phone storage/File.zip)
** After uploading .zip OTA file to phone storage, unplug USB cable from phone. You will recieve notification that new OTA UPDATE is avaliable for installation.
When you bought CN version of ZF2 you may have to Rename OTA file from UL-Z00A-WW-2.17.40.12-user.zip to UL-Z00A-CN-2.17.40.12-user.zip to get notification about update avaliable.
** Wait till update will finish (approx 10 - 15 min) . Phone will restart when finished. First boot may take longer.
V. Dam! No Notification!? what now...
** Boot your device to fastboot mode Power + Vol Up to enter Bootloader Mode
** At Bootloader press Vol Up to choose Recovery Mode
** You will see an error message of updating ota. Wait 5 sec and then press Power + Vol Up simultaneously until you see recovery menu.
** Using Vol Down + Vol Up choose ADB mode and connect your phone to PC via USB cable
** You need Fastboot version 1.0.32 and up to make ADB Sideload working properly with Zenfone 2
** Extract Fastboot.zip somewhere at your PC and put OTA update file ( .zip) in same folder as Fastboot.
** Hold down Shift and Right-Click anywhere in Fastboot Folder on your PC and select Open command here. It will launch a Command Prompt Window for you to issue commands to your device.
** Use command : adb sideload filename.zip
** At 100% it will go back to Recovery Mode main menu. Restart your phone.
** Done !

Are you sure this works i mean there are thousands of threads regarding this issue but none of them work..Can someone with CN version confirm the working of this method....
I bought phone on Aliexpress website. Phone has WW OTA but update via Wi-Fi was impossible. Firmware was 13.40.13 so i think people with that firmware had CN version at start, then sellers updated it to 13.40.13 WW and sended to buyers. Following my method you can update to the latest WW.
Works fine. We've published a similar method. I recommend using the latest rooted ROM. Note, your LTE 4G bands won't be changed with this method.
Have written out the steps in detail for novice users. Includes setting up adb etc: http://www.chinaphonearena.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10253

I agree.
But your method is only for pre-rooted system.img with 2.13.40.13 firmware.
I posted method for full OTA firmware upgrade.
Yes, it is similar )

The method posted can be done with any system.img (don't have to use rooted ROM), there's no need to do the OTA update as its already the latest ROM (though it will be compatible with future OTA updates, thanks to the ROM creator), and you end up rooted.
They are essentially the same, except for flashing system.img at fastboot instead of doing OTA update. Take your pick. If not caring about root, your method is certainly quicker, as there's no need to DL the huge system.img file.
Thanks. Much appreciated
confirmed works fine on a rooted CN version
Hi,
I followed all the steps and apart from thinking I'd bricked it (the system update screen was sat with the blue bar unmoved for 15 minutes) . It's just completed perfectly.
Really great advice - thanks - I got 2 of these handsets yesterday via ebay both came rooted and it turns out they are CN models but had WW software on them - as per your model - prior to reading your post I was probably going to try and send them back.
I hope and presume for future updates I can continue to use this method?
will do 2nd one now.
Cheers
Ian
Thanksssssssssssssssssssss
Honestly, last time that I tried to have a custom ROM or in any other words, last time I installed and used ( I'm still using it) it was on my samsung galaxy tab(the first galaxy tab of all time) two years ago!
At first I was puzzled in all of these forum pages. I started to change my CN rom to WW Rom yesterday at 2 o'clock. Since I started this process, I just ate dinner and slept for 5 hours. The rest of the time I was trying to install 7 different roms which are available in this forum or asus zenfone forum by 3 different methods of loading a ROM! NONE OF THEM WORKED CORRECT AND COMPLETELY. so I had to start again and read. I can easily say that I've read more than a fat ass book for this process (most of them were duplicates, but I was looking for s.th new among them...)
Your method worked just nolw (@ 1 pm) and I'm really thankful. Honestly I was so bumped and I was thinking to send this device back, just an hour ago I saw your way for the second time and I just decided to try this time as the last way, before returning it!! thank u again for giving me a zenfone
keep up the good work
Confirmed ok on 2nd handset - red CN model 32gb 4gb ram.
It has removed the root access though... Supersu app has gone. and Root checker confirms not rooted.
Which is ok because I can now use Skygo app on the phone - really wasn't expecting that to work!
Thanks guys for good news that it work for you too. I hope that TUT will help others to get rid of 13.40.13 which drain battery as $%^&. Without root it's hard for efficient battery save but atm i use battery doctor from G market and I need to say after 4h it drained 3% battery with turned WiFi. I just wait for proper root tutorial.

Hello,
Im stuck at no.5, sorry to ask but I don't know what you mean by phone root storage and where it is found.
Can you help please
He means the base of your SD card. Don't copy the OTA into a folder on SD. Copy it to the base of the SD.
with my cable still connected and fastboot still open?
Because I have put it in the sd card nothing happen
Reboot the phone. You should get an OTA update notification. Or boot into recovery and apply the update from there.

As far as steps, I can only speak of the ZE551ML. Start with an unrooted OS.
1.) Download the ADB and Fastboot tools from google (see links above). Download the pre-rooted from from shakalaca in post #1 (If you download the 200MB split version, Windows File Explorer will allow you to open the .zip and copy the .img file out.)
2.) Download the stock full ROM WW_2.15.40.10 directly from support.asus.com
3.) Plug the phone into the PC via USB and copy the UL-Z00A-WW-2.15.40.10-user.zip onto the phone.
4.) The phone will notify you that there is an update:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5.) When you select the notification you will be prompted of which file to use in the update:
6.) Hit OK and the phone will reboot and update everything it needs to update per ASUS. (This will include the fastboot/droidboot image, boot, recovery, system, silentlake, and modem firmware.)
7.) Once the update has completed, unplug and power off the phone.
8.) While holding volume up, press the power button until the phone vibrates. At this point release the power button but keep holding the volume up button until the screen flickers to the fastboot menu. Release the volume button when the screen flickers.
9.) Plug the phone back into your computer, open a command prompt and navigate to where you extracted the google tools and the system.img.
10.) Run:
fastboot devices
11.) You should see a your device listed, if you do not, your device is not in fastboot mode.
12.) Assuming you see your device listed in Step 10, run:
fastboot flash system system.img
This will erase your current system partition and then start writting the new image to the partition. Fastboot will split the system.img file into ruffly 500MB chucks and send them to your device.
13.) Once its finished, you can select boot normally on your phone by pressing the power button or run:
fastboot reboot[/QUOTE]

HwOTA8 for Huawei P20 Lite1. On the phone, make a backup of all data (since during the upgrade all data will be erased). This is an obligatory condition.
2. Unlock your bootloader: (There´s no way around it (unfortnuately), but after the procedure your device will be locked again, so don´t worry!). The device will make a factory reset, so once again, BACKUP your files!!!!!!!!!!
3. Enable ‘USB debugging’ and ‘OEM Unlock’ option from setting>developer option>. To enable Developer Options, go to About phone and tap the Build Number 7 times.
4. You must download three zip-archives with a full "Full OTA" firmware on which you want to flash (If you look through in the FF (FirmwareFinder), you see there are 4 archives for China and 3 for other locations. You must to download for the version what model and location you will have after the firmware);
5. Add the downloaded files to the folder "HWOTA\Update" and run the .cmd file, it will rename them automatically according to the template:
- update_data_full_public.zip to update_data_public.zip
- update_full_....zip to update_all_hw.zip
- update.zip don't rename
and will be repack firmware automatically!
6. After run the universal batch file update.bat in the "HWOTA" folder, which will provide an opportunity to choose the required work option (change firmware/rebranding (change location)). FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SCREEN OF THE MONITOR - the entire process is accompanied by prompts.
At the end of the process, everything should work fine... Be prepared, the bootloader will be locked after changing the location or firmware as a FullOTA.
7. If suddenly it turned out "bootloop" - go into the stock Recovery and make wipe.
PS: To change the firmware using the SD card, you need to create a folder "HWOTA" on the SD card and copy three firmware archives with the changed names (see above). In the batch file select item 1 "SDCard HWOTA directory"

Confirm it working! Dead ANE-LX1 from C10 (RU) to C432 (EU) and update to 8.0.0.126
First flash oeminfo, then stock rom (All this by HwOTA8). Then use Firmware Finder with DNS changer included in to Multi-Tool 8 to install last update applied to your country-code in oeminfo.

Just flash it again. If error at 60-70 % try flash without main zip, just with lx1/l21 zip and third , forge how it must be named, typing from phone. Of And this doors not work, then check country code. If changed (if u change it ofc) try firm finder + hisuite with DNS patch applied (can find in multi tool 8)
Ive just tried to use the HWOTA8 to update my P20 lite from C782 to C432.
Whilst it was a complete ball ache, Ive now ended up with a P20 lite C432 dual sim and everything working which is great
The HWOTA8 doesn't fully work, you can get the files to repack, change the names, but it falls down once it flashes the temporary TWRP, it wont reboot into TWRP. you need to open a second cmd prompt and reboot the phone whilst unplugging the usb lead and pressing volume up to enter TWRP.
Once there i was able to flash the new OEMINFO which went okay, but again it wouldn't reboot out of TWRP so it couldn't carry on with the firmware update.
I rebooted the phone and got similar software versions to above ending 46
In developer options OEM unlock disappeared and wasn't showing in bootloader, only phone unlocked.
I then restarted HWOTA8 and tried to bypass the install part and try and install the firmware update but that also went through okay but failed about 75%
Restarted the phone back into the normal system
I downloaded the firmware finder app and manually added the the correct customer version i tried to install, as the app recognised this 46 number
The firmware was downloaded via proxy and passed all the checks and installed correctly this time. went through okay and now the phone recognises it a c432 as i wanted and no longer c782 or 46.
The only strange bit was that after the firmware was updated, frp lock in the bootloader disappeared, for this to re appear again i had to relock the bootloader to get it to show back up again. i then proceed to unlock again and it still stayed this time.
Ive checked everything and everything is working okay now, Dual sim shows but even with second sim is inserted it shows all 00000000000. but the sim works fine and makes and receives calls as well as first sim
hope this helps anyone else before using this method you can make it work but it aint as easy as following the prompts.

Hello
If you download with firmware finder via in app proxy,
once youve modified your wifi settings to localhost port 8080
go into your system update and check for an update, once its downloaded it will reboot automatically into recovery and update for you.
you dont install anything your self. the system does it all for you.
Has worked with methode of fabio87.
Thanks man. Now i want to have original recovery image instead of twrp.
which image should i write from update.app?

Spoiler: Unlocking your bootloader (Required for all other tutorials below)
Step 1
Make sure you have a Mi Account ready.
You should've created one when first setting up your phone, with your phone number and a password.
- If you have it: Double-check you have access to it by attempting to connect on Xiaomi's official website (Login page).
- If you don't: Create one with the Create an account button below the password form (same link as above), then connect to it.
Step 2
On your PC, go to Xiaomi's unlock page and click the colored Download Mi Unlock button.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 3
A download should start. Wait for it to finish, move the archive to your desktop and extract its content.
Step 4
Inside the extracted folder, double click the file called miflash_unlock.exe to start Xiaomi's Unlocking program.
Step 5
Read Xiaomi's Disclaimer then agree to their terms, or stop here and leave this thread if you don't.
Step 6
Sign in to your Mi Account we talked about in Step 1.
Step 7
Let's get your phone ready for unlocking.
Go to your phone's Settings > Mi Account and make sure you're logged in.
Now Settings > About Phone and tap the "MIUI Version" box multiple times until it says You are now a developer!
And finally Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options
Enable the following settings inside Developer Options, and click Accept when warnings pop-up:
OEM Unlocking
USB Debugging
Still in Developer Options, check your Mi Unlock status and click the Add account and device button at the bottom if present.
Make sure to backup your phone's data before continuing on with this tutorial, as unlocking will make it factory reset (wipe)!
Step 8
Alright, all backed up? Confident? Let's get going with the final steps.
Turn off your phone.
Turn it back on into fastboot mode by holding down the Power button AND Volume Down together until it vibrates, you may then let go of the Power Button, but keep Volume Down held until you see the fastboot image on your phone.
Connect your phone to your computer with the USB Cable.
Xiaomi's Software should detect it. If not, click on the cog-wheel in the top right, click the Check button to install the driver and follow instructions, then keep going.
Click Unlock, and follow the instructions!
Now there are two possible scenarios
Either you've done all this before and can have your phone unlocked right away.
Or this is the first time and at the end of the progress it'll ask you to wait ~7days, and, well, there's no way around that, so come back in 7 days and start from Step 8 again.
And there you go! Your phone will reboot and you can set it all up again, with the ability to follow the rooting tutorial below, and you can also install custom ROMs/recovery!
Spoiler: Rooting (Magisk)
Step 1
Download the latest Magisk .apk on your phone.
Go to the link above, click the latest (topmost) Magisk-vXX.X.apk you see in the list to start the download, open the file and install it.
Step 2
Go to the download page for the MIUI Official Rom for your region, make sure to get the fastboot version.
OR (if you don't want/can't download 3gb of ROM)
Follow DavitidzeSh's instructions on how to gather the boot.img and vbmeta.img files and SKIP to Step 5.
OR (if you're on a custom rom)
Look into your custom rom's .zip, find the boot.img and vbmeta.img files and SKIP to Step 5.
Step 3
Take the file you downloaded above, it should be a .tgz archive.
Extract it, you'll get a .tar achive.
Extract that one again.
Step 4
You should now have a folder similar to the one below
Go inside the images folder
Step 5
Grab the the vbmeta.img file and copy it to your ADB & Fastboot (Platform Tools) folder.
Grab the boot.img file and copy it to your phone's internal storage.
(where the Android, DCIM, Download, and more are present, just drop it in there)
Here's how it should look inside your phone's storage in the end.
Step 6
On your phone, open up Magisk Manager.
Click the Magisk Install button as shown below.
Then Select and Patch a File.
Go look for your boot.img you previously copied to your phone and pick it.
Click Let's go! and wait for Magisk to complete the process!
Step 7
Link your phone to your PC, grab the file made by Magisk Manager.
It's located in your phone's downloads folder, called magisk_patched.img.
Copy and paste it where your ADB & Fastboot (Platform Tools) are located.
You should now have a folder structure like this:
adb.exe
fastboot.exe
magisk_patched.img
vbmeta.img
Extra files from the platform tools
Step 8
Alright, we're ready to root!
Turn off your phone, then get in fastboot mode.
(Power + Volume Down, like the unlocking tutorial)
Step 9
Link your phone to your PC with the USB cable if not done already.
Step 10
Shift + Right click in an empty space inside the folder we prepared in Step 7,
And click Open PowerShell window here.
Inside the PowerShell window, input the following commands line by line, in order.
.\fastboot.exe devices
Click to collapse
Make sure your device shows up, should be a bunch of numbers and letters, a couple spaces, and fastboot.
If nothing does, go back to Step 8 and try again.
.\fastboot.exe --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
.\fastboot.exe flash boot .\magisk_patched.img
.\fastboot.exe reboot
Click to collapse
Note: Your PowerShell window will look different, I'm using a different program, don't worry
Your phone will reboot.
Open up Magisk Manager, and double check that it's installed.
You're done!
That said, you will have issues with certain apps leaving it like this.
You should to hide the fact that your phone is rooted.
Check out the Passing SafetyNet tutorial further down below!
Spoiler: Getting EdXposed
I very much discourage to EdXposed your phone unless you have a very good reason for it.
It's a pain to pass SafetyNet.
It doesn't get updated often.
It has very niche use cases for which it's actually worth it.
That said, I explain it here for people who know what they're getting into and want instructions on how to do it.
This procedure requires to be rooted with Magisk.
Step 1
Inside Magisk Manager, go to the Modules tab.
Click the search button (bottom right) and search Riru.
Install the Riru module by Rikka.
Activate it and Reboot.
Step 2
Download and install the latest EdXposed Manager, the same way you did with Magisk Manager when rooting.
Step 3
Open it up, go to the ALPHA tab and click install/update.
It'll start a file download.
Step 4
Go back to Magisk Manager, Modules tab, except this time click Install from Storage.
Point to the .zip file you just got, located in the Downloads folder of your phone.
At the end of the installation, click reboot.
Step 5
Let's double check your installation is operational.
Go to EdXposed Manager, first tab.
It should say EdXposed Framework is active.
You're done!
You should now be able to install EdXposed modules.
That said, you will have issues with certain apps leaving it like this.
You should to hide the fact that your phone is EdXposed.
Check out the Passing SafetyNet tutorial further down below!
Spoiler: Passing SafetyNet (Magisk/EdXposed)
For Magisk Rooted Phones
Enable Magisk Hide inside Magisk Manager's settings.
You may also need to use the Props module to spoof your phone as another, if you want a tutorial on that, let me know.
For EdXposed Phones
Again, I highly recommend not EdXposing your phone and sticking to just Magisk if you can help it.
You should also know that this method will show you're passing SafetyNet inside Magisk but it's a pain to do and isn't as well hidden as Magisk alone.
Step 1 - Do the step for Rooted phones listed above if not done already.
Step 2 - In EdXposed Manager, get the HiddenCore Module and activate it.
Step 3 - Now, in the side-menu: Compat List > tick HiddenCore Module.
Step 4 - Then, go to Settings > Framework > Enable "App List mode".
Step 5 - Finally, Applications(Black List) and tick: Android Services Library, Chrome, Google Play services, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework
Reboot and enjoy! You're all set and SafetyNet should pass.
Spoiler: Installing GSI's (Non-device specific ROMs)
Step 1
Pick your poison in the Treble Forums!
My recommendations are in the Extras section of this post.
Step 2
Download the chosen ROM's A/B Arm64 version
It should be an .img.xz file
Extract it and you'll get an .img file.
You're almost ready to flash.
Make sure to backup your phone's data.
Continuing this tutorial will wipe your phone!
Step 3
Put your phone into fastboot mode.
(Power + Volume Down)
Connect it to your PC.
Step 4
Move the .img file you downloaded to your ADB & Fastboot (Platform Tools) folder.
Rename it to system.img
Step 5
Shift + Right click in an empty space inside the folder,
And click Open PowerShell window here.
Inside the PowerShell window, input the following commands line by line, in order.
.\fastboot.exe reboot fastboot
.\fastboot.exe --disable-verification flash vbmeta .\vbmeta.img
.\fastboot.exe flash system .\system.img
.\fastboot.exe -w
.\fastboot.exe reboot
Click to collapse
Your phone will now reboot on its own.
Set it all up and enjoy!
That said, depending on how old the GSI you picked is, you MAY have issues leaving it at that.
Therefore, I highly recommend checking out the next tutorial section about Fixing GSI Issues.
Spoiler: Fixing brightness/jack on older GSI's
I have worked together with a developer to bring fixes for our device to every custom GSI rom out there.
The most recent GSI's shouldn't need the fixes listed below.
Older GSI (treble) roms have two known bugs that we can fix:
The brightness slider being misscalibrated, and therefore auto-brightness broken too.
The headphone jack not working.
You need to be rooted to do so.
Step 1 - Get yourself a Terminal Emulator, I recommend Termux
Step 2 - Type the following commands inside of it, line by line, in order:
su
setprop persist.sys.qcom-brightness $(cat /sys/class/leds/lcd-backlight/max_brightness)
setprop persist.sys.overlay.devinputjack true
Click to collapse
You're done! Brightness should be fine, headphones get detected, enjoy!
Spoiler: Resetting your phone
Backup all the data you might have on your phone to restore it after the manipulation!
Step 1
Download the fastboot ROM corresponding to your region here.
(The same one used to grab the boot.img and vbmeta.img when rooting)
And extract it.
Step 2
Download the latest MiFlashTool.
And extract it.
Step 3
Put your device in fastboot mode.
(Power + Vol Down, refer to the rooting tutorial for a more info)
And connect it to your computer via USB.
Step 4
Open MiFlashTool (XiaoMiFlash.exe), your device should appear in the list.
Step 5
Click the Select button in the top left,
And point to your fastboot ROM's folder
(The one containing the "AP", "BP", "BP_IN", "images" folders and a bunch of files)
Step 6
At the bottom right of the software, choose if you either want to just:
clean all
(wipe and re-install)
OR
clean all and lock
(wipe, reinstall and re-lock your bootloader)
Note: If you re-lock your bootloader but wish to unlock it again later, you won't have to wait the 7 days again.
Step 7
Finally, in the top right, click the flash button.
Now just wait a while, your phone will reboot on the stock rom and you're good to go!

Spoiler: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Will unlocking my bootloader void my warranty?
A: No, it will not, it's easily reversable too, check the "Resetting your phone" tutorial.
Q: I rooted/EdXposed my phone and now Netflix won't even open, or doesn't work properly, what's up with that?
A: There's an easy fix if you have Magisk. Install the liboemcrypto disabler Magisk module, activate it and reboot.
Q: I tried unlocking my bootloader but, Mi Flash Unlock doesn't detect my phone, even though it's in fastboot mode and connected. Help?
A: Here are some things you can try:
Try another USB port.
Try another USB cable.
Install the Mi USB Drivers manually, they're included in the MiFlashUnlock folder.
Run the driver_install_64.exe, OR go to the driver folder, then the folder corresponding to your windows version, right click the android_winusb.inf and click Install.
In the Device Manager, check that the driver provider is Xiaomi.
If not, uninstall it and restart your computer.

Hi,
I am also a user of RN9 Merlin.
I think we should add more details like
-how to flash official firmware(both from stock recovery, fastboot)
-should we need the same MIUI firmware that is there before we started booting custom ROM(GSI), if we need to go back to stock?
-what should happen if we interrupt the process in middle
-unlocking bootloader linux, macos or a link for the guide
-why we need to flash vbmeta.img?
-how to make vbmeta.img on our own(some are giving modified one, what is it?)
I know we need more and more time to do these, but these will help a newbie/noob/beginner for Xiaomi and rooting.
Thanks

1.Flashing official firmware is universal method for all devices through fastboot, And for recovery, we can't flash it yet since TWRP doesn't support dynamic partition yet.
2.No, you don't need the same firmware.
3.If you interrupt the process in between, the device would remain in fastboot Mode, and you can still restart the process.

I heard a term called "Anti Roll Back" from https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/how-to/faq-questions-answered-t3816185
Are all our merlin ROMs have same version of anti roll back. That is are we able to flash MIUI 11 on MIUI 12?
Thanks

Anti-rollback is only an issue if you're trying to downgrade through the stock recovery (Vol + Up) or through MIUI's recovery (About Phone > MIUI Version > Three dots and there is an option there)
If you want to go back to MIUI 11 for some reason, you can, by flashing it through fastboot.

1 - Google, this isn't Merlin specific.
2 - No, you can go back directly to the latest MIUI for your device.
3 - Just start over, your device will remain in fastboot, it's actually really safe.
4 - That's a niche demand, 99% of people use Windows and, if you use something else it's on you. If you're a Linux user, you're used googling information and it's not a problem. And for mac, well, worst case scenario use someone else's pc for 10 minutes.
5 - To prevent boot-loops. If you don't flash vbmeta, it won't boot.
6 - Read disclaimers, the tutorial literally tells you to take the vbmeta from the official rom. There's no such thing as a modified vbmeta, what matters is how we flash it with fastboot, disabling verifications.
Also this is my first post, and I'll add more as time goes on. But even as it is, I think it's miles better than what people care to create for most devices on XDA. It's also pretty detailed with images and such to reassure the user.
can someone help me?
So I wanted to unlock the bootloader
Did the
Turnn on OEM unlocking
Turn on USB debugging
Added my device on my account (the other thing to do in developer setting)
Boot into fastboot
The Mi unlock can't detect my device although the drivers are fine (I checked it in device manager) and I run it in administrator check the driver again in the software it says it is installed.
What can I do? Did I missed some steps?

I will not support custom recovery's. I highly dislike them, and they're unofficial for Merlin as well.

Hey, no problem!
Well, Merlin is just the codename for Redmi Note 9. So if you have a Redmi Note 9, you have a merlin.
BUT, keep in mind the Redmi Note 9 Pro, Pro Max and S are different and have their own section in the forums.

Well, thanks but one more thing, I tried unlocking the bootloader of my phone yesterday. I went into developer options and enabled the following options:
OEM unlocking
USB debugging
I also installed all the drivers needed in my pc and went into fastboot mode in my phone. But Xiaomis mi unlock can't recognise my device. I tried 2 different usb cables but the mi unlock just says, "your phone is not connected" I hope to get a reply from you and you will probably will be able to help me out.

Yes I could, I will actually add a section to the FAQ soon for better driver installation, it's a driver issue.

I appreciate you replying to me. But, I already fixed it by installing windows 7 I had windows 10 before and it didn't seem to work on it so I installed windows 7 and it worked flawlessly. Btw, are you a user that has installed a custom rom? And if yes, then which one and is the performance any better?
Thanks.

Nope I didn't YET, I'm still waiting for the unlock to complete. I did tried treble roms in my other device. It just is basically have the same performance (LOSQ) but I had heating problems in my Samsung device, I expect a normal experience with this ROMs.

[Simple method] Root N10 5G using Magisk for factory stock

First, as you might now, I am not liable if your phone would be bricked or damaged after this tutorial.
This method has worked perfectly for on my phone, which: OnePlus Nord N10 5G from Metro by T-Mobile. Build Number: 11.0.1.BE88CF. And it should work any rom stock
This tutorial is inspired by andreas__ from this topic. I recommend to take a quick glance before processing here.
General Info:
You need adb and fastboot installed and should know how to use it
You must do this process only once, afterwards you can follow the OTA survival steps
You need to factory hard reset the phone (very important)
Unlock the bootloader
If you are using locked metro by T-Mobile phone, make sure to request the "unlock token" in order to unlock the bootloader.
Google "How to Unlock Bootloader on OnePlus Phones | Unlocked and T-Mobile Variants" for the instructions
After you have unlocked the bootloader using this command:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
The data will be wiped and it will do the factory reset
Create the boot image:
You need to pull out a clean boot image from your phone. I have used TWRP to do that
flash the latest twrp for this phone:
[TWRP][3.5.2_10][Billie]TWRP for Oneplus Nord N10 5G [BETA]
Use this command to flash it:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery Twrp_3.5.2-10_EduardoA3677-billie_OxygenOs11_Android11.img
boot the phone to twrp recovery, then head to:
Backup > select "Boot (96MB)" > Swipe to Backup
The boot image will be generated in the internal storage under the name "boot.emmc.win"
root and patch the image:
Restart the phone to the system, then download the latest magisk app
Make sure to allow "USB debugging" from the developer Options
Install and open the magisk app then tap on "install" (very top)
tap on "select and patch a file"
select "boot.emmc.win" which is the image that was generated by twrp
Magisk will patch it and place it in the download folder under the name "magisk_patched-23000_Obpf5.img"
Copy the patched image into ADB folder in your PC
flash the patched image:
Reboot the phone into bootloader mode
Then flash the patched image:
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched-23000_Obpf5.img
Reboot the phone into the system
Hurray! your phone now is officially rooted. You're welcome
I hope you find my instructions useful.

Exactly.
I lost root after the forced OTA on July 31/August 1. Today I followed this guide to install twrp, factory reset, then installed Magisk by renaming the APK and flashing within TWRP. However the SafetyNet check showed "Attestation Failed." I enabled MagiskHide and rebooted, and now pass SafetyNet.
Thank you for this very simple and useful guide. I was able to root with no loss of userdata, saving a lot of time that would otherwise go into creating a backup.

Glad it worked for you. You're welcome
Why it wait forever for attached device, even removing and reconnecting phone?

You have to be in fastboot mode before you can flash the recovery. Reboot into fastboot by typing "adb reboot fastboot" (without the quotes). Your phone should then reboot into fastboot mode. NOW, assuming you have already unlocked your bootloader, you can flash the recovery.
If anyone is still having the OEM unlocking greyed out issue, you need to do the device unlock from your phone, select request permanent unlocks then your device will reboot, from there you can then head back into dev options and you will be able to OEM unlock. Hope this helps seems not a lot of people realize this I hunted for the answer all over only to happen upon it when I was about to say forget it.

Just to add to this.....If you are unable to use device unlock because you have not met your carrier's requirements to do so yet you can use the script at this thread and it will open up oem unlock even if your phone is not eligible yet.
I have the N20. No twrp. Flashed a patched boot.img and lost radios. No wifi Bluetooth or sim)mobile data. Hoping that the platform is similar enough that someone could help me recover my device. Phone was sim locked, not sure if that's the issue. I forgot to run the command from the debloat script after flashing the unlock token, shouldn't have rushed this. I don't have a backup of anything though. Was trying to get root to back up everything. Factory resetting did nothing to fix the issue

LOL never does at this level, just wipes cache and user partition, but nothing of value where we play- the assumption is you (or the bad guys) can't figure out how to write to the system, boot, etc partitions. (snicker).
So the good news is if you can find the EDL image, and follow the procedure to reflash the phone... it should restore everything for you.
(To be clear @PsYk0n4uT I linked you to the N10 EDL thread, not the N20...)
Thanks. So my issue so far. I don't think there is even a stock firmware posted anywhere. Though there is a backup of another device posted. How would I go about finding the EDL files for mine? Can one be created? Or would I need to source that from OnePlus or wait on someone to do that? I actually wasn't aware that I could boot the boot omg without flashing it to test it out first
