Thanks to @suzook and @reg66 for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for the mention dude!! Glad you got it working and for the tutorial...

Hi, Compare to stock rom, what kind of experience with gsi? Anything didn't work? Pros and cons if you can mention. Thx

Great to see this development. Hopefully we can get 120Hz running someday, and we'll be set.

There is no difference with GSIs (the g stands for generic) works as is on both.
The distinction between WW and CN is only relevant to stock ASUS firmware

Install Magisk along the way to enable root, also... there's no 90 or 120Hz here.

Hello, i want to know, if someone can answer me.
What is GSI?
What can GSI do?
This is some kind of daily driver or something?
What we lost if we put this rom?

Can this method be used with the original rog phone? I'm interested in getting Android Q. :fingers-crossed:

I think way early on it was established we can't have it unencrypted once the OS install it's completed, unless something changed or I got it wrong. Lol

You can uncrypt your phone but if you.flash a stock rom, the kernel at first boot will automatically encrypt your memory again. There are 2 different encryption, one by code and one with standard image key. At this moment the twrp will automatically uncrypt the system key but you need to manually write the code (if is setted). The tool will uncrypt both method, the flash of stock rom will re-uncrypt with system key but not with code key

Grazie.
Just got my Pixel 2XL the other day and am excited to root and start modding. I have been monitoring this thread just to see what issues people are running into but it looks like not many people are even doing this surprisingly. I mean that's why I bought this Google phone, so I don't have to deal with locked bootloaders that these carriers put in them to discourage rooting. I know this phone is also locked but it's not for the purpose of keeping people from rooting them. I just think that it's so odd that this thread has very little activity.

The device is very expensive, has dual partitions, has gotten a lot of bad press, and not near as Dev friendly as some others. Having said that, there are about 5 custom roms, root, exposed, substratum, and various launcher and active edge mods. So it's not like we're hurting too bad ??

I've read people suggesting flashing if via the Updater app. Does it work?
And don't have the telegram group but have they talked about any issues at all with the beta 8.1? I read one in the MIUI forums say that Auto Brightness causes screen burn ins but no clarification has been done yet.

yeah i formatted data just like last time, and its running wonderful right now, still setting up stuff, but it restored my apps (even signed into some apps by default already, prolly cause its android 8.1) its lovely.

okay strangely enough the android debugging logo still is a jellybean... but android version says android 8.1, so they might have to update that still, dont worry about that

Glad to hear you successfully flashed it.
Please elaborate about formatting your data, do you mean simple wipe of data or format of data (full internal storage)?
P. S What recovery are you using?

Android P on Redmi 5 Plus

For those who want to try Android P here are the how-to.
I just sharing the experience, I´m not involved in the project.
The sources will free-up for the ends of the month so maybe some dev could put his hands on it.
For now it´s unlikely unstable and with some bugs but usable for a basics and sharing some issues could be solved.
A good introducing for a better comprehension :
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-p-beta-port-snapdragon-project-treble-devices/
This is the general thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...ment/rom-android-p-developer-preview-t3816659
These are the steps for our device:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77101817&postcount=308
Maybe someone can wipe too system adding to the steps of wiping from recovery and only will stay vendor partition needed to boot.
Other links:
Treble rom base: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/development/rom-cardinalaosp-t3774232
Recovery used for this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re.../official-orangefox-recovery-project-t3807479
I tried before with the latest recovery provided for miui 10 (vince_treble_twrp-jay-port-v3), I formatted data to can boot as indicated for some users in the thread but never boot and never recovered the ability to see files and flash nothing more directly (but adb sideload) from this twrp version, any of the three no-verity/lazyflasher/antibootloop worked for this so I started again with Orange Fox recovery. (although any treble recovery could work following right steps indicated)
No need to flash callfix.zip.

I didn´t try many, for me it´s in beta level yet but as far as I know VoLTE is a global bug in all devices yet and camera2api it´s not working for me but maybe with other mods can work so in some devices it works, but we can expect that as many users and devs take part of this then we get more advance. I hope that users can share the experiences and so help others.
I use android p. And for me this gsi is much better than los 15.1 ... except for fingerprint. 2api camera works great! only first you need to flash .zip 2api, only after that install the camera application! The battery holds well, and is pleasant and smooth to use.)) I love the new from Google)

I got DP4 installed on the Redmi 5 Plus 3GB version. It does work and you can use it but there are some major problems and the rom is totally unusable.
- the launcher crashes constantly (pixel launcher isn't responding) so you lose your navigation and phone is unusable
- even when the launcher isn't crashed everything is so slow (20 seconds to open any app) and the pill switcher is 10 seconds to open
- no double tap to wake phone is a joke
- no fingerprint sensor at all
- no volte
- no camera
- google treble is full of bloatware that you are forced to download for the phone to work
- dark theme doesn't work on settings
All in all a total fail by google just like their new gmail interface, but well done to the developer who tried to port it.
Guys don't waste your time with this just install a normal custom rom.
If you must try it take a nandroid backup first and after restoring your nandroid backup there is a stupid bug in TWRP you have to use file manager to delete /data/system/locksettings.db to get back into your phone!

I got it to work, and it is cery smooth for a port. My main issue is the wifi keep disconnecting and random freezes on the os. Other than that everything works as smooth as it should even the fingerprint.

your device is System-as-root, which is somewhat similar to A/B, so AB GSI will boot on your device.

You can even flash A only gsi, but it will not boot, so prefer A/B

It's great for the novelty but without fingerprint recognition and bluetooth calls, not to mention other bugs that will crop up, this isn't going to be a daily driver. Custom ROMs are still the best bet but without any developers on board, it doesn't seem like much development will be happening for this device.

Face Unlock work on all devices for Fingerprint I can't answer you I haven't buy A50 yet I'll do next month for my birthday
Just inquisitive as I have rooted my device with stock recovery only. From what I have read, TWRP doesn't work with the latest kernels, so how are all the patches going to be flashed assuming the system image is flashed using fastboot?

You must be on A11 OOS or any custom rom A11 OR A12. Doesn't matter.
Steps what I did and how I install the rom and root.
Steps:
1. Go to bootloader and use following cmd: fastboot flash boot filename.img (provided by the developer in the 1post recovery.img)
2. Go to option in bootloader and use volume key to choose the reboot to recovery.
3. Once you are in recovery, go to factory format and click factory format data wipe. It will wipe you internal and external storage with formatting data meaning you will lose everything.
4. Go to Apply Update and use following cmd: adb sideload romname.zip and click entre, it will take 10 to 12 mins depending.
5. Once install successfully reboot to system and enjoy the rom.
Steps for root what I used instead of using payload and extracting boot.img. Easy steps root successful.
1. Once you are booted into system successfully and stepup everything as you would.
2. Go to bootloader by holding down volume down and power button. You will enter bootloader menu.
3. You CANNOT root your phone with given recovery in the first post. So, what I did I use the recovery img from DrepFest rom, it's build for A12 it should be safe to use. TWRP is compatible with A12 as of right now.
4. Go to bootloader use cmd: fastboot flash boot DrespFest recovery.img and click enter and reboot to recovery.
5. Now you will entre DrespFest recovery A12.
6. Go to Apply update and use following cmd: adb sideload rootfilename.zip (it's magisk 23). It will root your phone with Magisk 23, but you can update Magisk 24.1 manually without issues.
I have attached Magiosk 23. It can be sideload through recovery of LOS recovery or DrespFest recovery.
Enjoy rom and root.
Congrats brother! Looks good!
Any chances to non-gapps build?
Will try this later, congrats!

ROM looks great, UI is beautiful. Unfortunately, it drains my battery drastically it might be time for a phone upgrade.
pls help I'm having error with ads Sideload gives me "failed to find updated binary META-INf" pls help
edit: sorted it out, Safari extracting the zip file right after the download of the rom and recompiling it gives error so I used chrome to dl and it is going all good
Tried this this morning for a short time, runs really well and feels amazing however once I turned off wifi I could not get it to turn back on.
Whenever I tried it would crash the system and ask to close the ui.
Reverted back to stock before I had to take to go to work
