Very bad reception with my note 10+ - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hello everyone.
New owner of a note 10+ exynos, I notice that the reception of the signal which was 4 bars with my xiaomi mi9 fell to 1 bar with the note 10+.
It's super annoying to see that a phone at this price works less than a xiaomi no?
Here are the features of the phone:
Base band : N975FXXS1ASJ2
Kernel : 4.14.113-16926798
Software : SAOMC_SM-N975F_OGC_FTM_PP_0011
Does anyone have that kind of problem and I can solve it?

I have 2 potential answers.....1st is that both phones are getting the same signal strength in db's, I've seen some people report that....the note (exynos) just is representing the signal strength with less bars...but actual signal strength is the same.
2nd answer are there any missing bands on the note that your carrier uses? Have you confirmed that all your carrier bands are supported by the note?
Again check db levels and recheck band support.

Signal bars are really inaccurate

1) does the phone support the primary band for you carrier, if not you bought the wrong phone(or have wrong carrier)
2) put the two hones side by side and run speedtest.net on both. Bars are Placebos, trust bandwidth tests.

First, thanks for all these answers. I will look for an application that will give me the power level and put it on both phones. I'll be right after
Edit :
So, this iss the result :
Note 10+ =
Sim1 Free : Connection Edge only : -107 dBm
Sim2 SFR : Connection 4G : - 140 dBm
Pocophone =
Sim1 Free : Connection Edge only : -96 dBm
Sim2 SFR : Connection 4G : -84 dBm
We can see that the signal force is note the same at all

i also verified the band :
B1 (2100), B2 (1900), B3 (1800), B4 (1700/2100 AWS 1), B5 (850), B7 (2600), B8 (900)
Free is on 900 and 1800
SFR is on 900, 1800, 2600

Hi,
Free uses 2600 MHz too.

You can't compare them if they are not using the same network (both 4G).
Free with 2G (Edge) uses "roaming" Orange carrier antennas, not theirs, since they don't have the licence to exploit 2G networks.
You need to check which antennas you are connected to for both carriers and using the same network.
The RNC Mobile app can help to figure it out.

I already use the same network, you can see it :
Note 10+
Sim2 SFR : Connection 4G : - 140 dBm
Pocofone
Sim2 SFR : Connection 4G : -84 dBm
It's clear that with same network , there are very big difference !
I think that note 10+ connect to band 20 and Antenna in my country is more powerfull in Band 3.Bbut with the menu "servicemode" it is possible to change the band and force band 3 (1800) but I tried the codes found on google and it does not work on the note 10 ..
I may have opened another topic for that .. ?

I can second that. Changed from a Pocophone to a Note+ this week.
Never had signal issues with the pocophone. Now with the Note 10+
I have between 102 and 115dBm.
Network: TMobile Austria.
Very dissapointing.

My one plus 6t gets better signal for me as well.
Better than all my notes and S10.

I digged a little deeper yesterday by using signal analyzing tool and for me it looks like the problem is that the Note does not connect to the nearest "Cell tower". This seems to be the case when I am in my office and when I am at home as well.
Since I have absolutely no clue about cell/signal handling etc. my research journey will come to an end here. Maybe someone with more skills in this regards can pick this up and see if it is correct.
I also found this thread at Samsung community forum:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Note10/Note-10-Plus-Signal-Signal-Issues/td-p/815987

I went from a Sony Xperia XZ with fabulous reception to my Note 8 which was really poor. After 2 years with the Note 8 my new Note 12 Plus 5G has noticeably better receptlon. Whether it's the best out there is debatable but it's certainly an upgrade on the Note 8 when it comes to reception.

I have a N975F. Im using it on T-mobile in the US. I understand this device wasnt made to be used here, but I also have the same issue.
I put my Note 10 Plus 5g next to it, and the signal strength of the Exynos model isnt that good. I also tested it next to an s10 plus, same results. Also, data speeds arent as fast as its snapdragon counterparts.

Could it be because of its SAR? Samsung always got one of the lowest I knew: 0.19 W/kg (head), 1.40 W/kg (body).

I have A 975F, if I set auto selection of network, It ALWAYS chooses 4G, even if 3G or 2G have stronger signal levels, for this reason, I keep it in 3G, which always has the max level, I use 2G/3G setting when for road travels(some 500-800 km) and 4G only when I need data connections , my device is carrier branded and I use it precisely with its asociated carrier, so it works flawlessly wherever I go in my country Mexico, which by no means is little in extension

BND-L24 USA LTE Bands question(s)

Reference phone specs at end. I recently got the Honor 7x and am using T Mobile in the Atlanta, GA US region. At home, when I got the phone Friday night after work it was awesome. Super fast no problems plug and play. But Monday at work I get full signal, but no internet. No download speed. I found that when I go into the settings under mobile network if I choose preferred network mode down to wcdma/gsm it turns off the LTE but I get some data. Is there a way to remedy this problem without having to sacrifice LTE while I'm at work?!? I know the Huawei website says the phone works with T Mobile, but if it only works with 3/5 bands do I just not get LTE where those bands are in effect? Can someone shed some light on this? Because before today, I honestly didn't know what any of this meant. Thanks in advance!
Phone Honor 7x

Miguel EsquivelHi there! Thank you for reaching Honor Device USA. How may I be of help today?
Sam8:40 pm I'm having trouble with my signal for my phone, and I'm also having a difficult time finding information on my situation with the US version of the 7x. I have L24 version, and I also have T Mobile. am I unable to get 4g?
Miguel Esquivel I see, let me help you with that
I am sorry you are havinf this issues Sam
Can i please have your imei number
Sam ...
...
Miguel Esquivel Thank you just a moment please
Thank you very much for holding Sam
Sam of course
Miguel Esquivel Can i please know who is your carrier?
Sam t mobile
Miguel Esquivel Thank you
Can i please know what issues are you having regarding the carrier signal?
Sam well, when preferred network type is set to LTE/wcdma/gsm auto and 4g is enabled, i get a full signal as far as bars go and the 4g icon is there but my download speed is nothing and it tells me im offline
when i change preferred network mode to wcdma/gsm i get data, but not 4g
Miguel Esquivel I see
Have you try a diferent sim card?
Sam sim card works in other phones fine.
Miguel Esquivel Thank you for that information
Does this happen everywhere?
Sam mostly seems to happen when I am at work
i work in...
live in...
Miguel Esquivel well it seems to be intermittent issue, but since your satisfaction is our main goal we can send the device to our repair center for further testing, but if you allow me to add my opinion i think that the signal goes weeker on that location and probably does not reach enough power to have data traveling on it
I do not have a coverage map for your carrier i am sorry, but you can consult them, it could also be a sensibility related issue with your antenna Sam
Sam i'm showing that there are 2 bands that the honor 7x does not support that tmobile does use and im just wondering why we aren't on the same page
it's not a repair issue. it's a matter of whether or not the phone is compatible, and i'm leaning towards no unless you have a solution. there are 3/5 supported LTE bands for this phone which i did not think would mean that LTE wouldn't work at all
Miguel Esquivel This are the frequency bands compatible with the L24 A
Primary SIM card:
4G LTE FDD: B2/B4/B5/B7/B12/B17
3G WCDMA: B1/B2/B4/B5;
2G GSM: B2/B3/B5/B8
Secondary SIM card (voice services only, no data service):
2G GSM: B2/B3/B5/B8
Sam so if T mobile uses B66 and B71 LTE bands for their LTE service as well and the honor 7x is incompatible with these my phone will not work properly unless i completely turn off LTE????
Miguel Esquivel I am afraid the service could be intermittent Sam
Sam so depending on where I'm at, I need to stop what I'm doing go to settings and turn off LTE data in order to get ****ty 3g data just so I'm not stranded? Read
Miguel Esquivel I am sorry Sam

Lte does not work for me in Canada with freedom mobile too.. Honor and waway does not give a **** as usual
Okay, forgive me for this, but what was advertised that isn't working?
T-mo will be the first to tell you that not all of their services are available everywhere, is that what's going on here? I may be missing something here, but does the honor / huawei not work when a different device (with the same bands) would work?
Honestly, just a question, I really don't know...
Lte band 4 and 7 were advertised and does not work on my carrier..
the same problem here. i'm in venezuela, band 8 UMTS were advertised on the specs phone and doesnt work

The 900 band you want to use isn't available on the BND-L24 model
Works great on at&t even in areas near here that have gotten worse service recently.
Bands 5 and 12 are the main T-mo bands so it should work for you, bud. I would double check the APN. I would also have T-mo release the SIM and reprovision it (cut it loose from the network and reconnect it); I used to work for T-mo and this can resolve a buttload of connection issues.
I use mine on Cricket/AT&T and get better reception than I did with my ZTE Axon 7.

Verizon Band 4

Any reason why my Pixel 2 XL will not connect to Verizon's Band 4? I get all of the other bands, but not Band 4.

How are you determining which band your on?
Not trying to be sarcastic, I am truly curious. I too am on Big Red, but couldn't tell you what band I'm on
@Badger50: Answer to your question is at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery&hl=en_US
@BuffLG: Verizon's band 4 may be widespread but it is used to provide added capacity to the network. If the cellular traffic in your location isn't heavy enough, you may never see band 4 even though the P2XL supports it.
I use Signal check to see the bands. Or LTE Discovery.

Much obliged kind sir. I do know/remember that I'm usually on band 13, but was curious to know how to check it. Thanks again :good::good:
Lol with LTE Discovery it says I'm on ATT band 12, while signal check shows band 17.
Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Signal Check Pro easiest way.
Band 13 is Verizon's original LTE band has furthest range (700 mhz spectrum). Band 4 (1700 mhz) and 2 (1900 mhz) are their AWS spectrum.
Band 2 also has the highest capacity. Usually deployed in the most congested areas first.
Band 2 will technically be the fastest. Will probably be the hardest to connect to, but if you're close enough to a tower and getting Band 2 service, you're golden. I've seen speeds close to 100 MBPS on Band 2
I'd bet a nickel you're not seeing band 4 because of this bug: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37136986

This bug is relevant on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile but not Sprint (I believe) as they don't have Band 4 and/or 66. T-Mobile turned on MFBI at least several months (maybe a year?) before Verizon and AT&T did.
Again I don't know for sure if it's related to what you're seeing but it does "smell" that way. Band 4 in the Phoenix area almost always shows up as a Band 2 EARFCN that Verizon doesn't own when using Signal Check Pro as it is being reported incorrectly by Android. The EARFCN is correct under the same conditions using Network Signal Guru since it reads directly from the Qualcomm chip.

I always got band 4 until the last couple weeks .. I now get Band 3 instead of band 4 which seems to be faster if I get a strong enough signal.. Band 3 doesn't seem to be as strong a signal as Band 4 though.. Band 4 was always displaying as XLTE where Band 3 displays as LTE.. my old Moto Pure still gets Band 4 so I really don't understand why the Pixel no longer will get it! Got to be by design by Verizon, me thinks!!

That's the exact issue @turboencab is talking about. There is no Band 3 LTE in the USA. You are seeing Band 3 because of an Android OS/Qualcomm bug that cuts off EARFCN values above 65536. Band 4 can be "displayed" as Band 66 and most operators choose to do this now. Band 66 EARFCN values are above 65536.
Tldr; there is no Band 3 in the US. You are still connected to Band 4. Apps aren't able to display the correct band due to an OS bug.
Try to use CellMapper as a tool to see what you're connected to. The devs for that app can "correct" this issue based off some assumptions. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper

US carrier support

Hello, I'm looking at the Global version of the Redmi Note 5 (Basically the pro. Referred to as the AI Dual camera on GSM arena) and I'll be using it in the US on Mint Mobile. Mint is a T-Mobile MVNO and I'm not sure how LTE support will be on this. If anyone has any info on this that would be great. I believe Mint mainly uses B4 and B12 but I could be wrong. I've been looking around and found mixed responses of it having good carrier support stateside and others saying it won't work.

I can confirm that the phone will WORK on B4 (1700mHz/2100mHz) and B5 if you live in the greater Myrtle Beach area. (Acquired from SunCom back in the late 2000's). I don't know if your area has B5. On your existing phone, get LTE Discovery from the Play Store and sample your most common areas first to see what bands are most prominent. Being where I live, the phone mostly uses Band 5 over 4 because of the lower freq; able to reach tougher places where the higher freq B4 can't reach.

Lte works on band 4, but not band 12 on T-Mobile. But, for me band 4 is enough, if I don't get lte the device will switch to 2g. 3g straight up does not work for me on T-Mobile, although I've heard that T-Mobile does not use 3g anymore in the first place.
All in all, for me lte works just as well as my previous phone (zte zmax pro)

I can see that. When B4 and B5 don't work the phone just switches to 2G but without internet so basic voice and sms still works. about 70% of the time after it switches to 2G it'll tap onto HSPA+ (3.5G, coined 4G) and I got that for a while until LTE reconnects. Rinse and repeat until I have to leave to go somewhere.

Note 10 Plus SM-N975F users on T-Mobile, questions?

Hello,
I recently purchased an N975F, and I'm using it on T-Mobile, in the US. How is your experience been using it on T-Mobile's network? For me, its showing "4G" all the time. I haven't seen it go to "LTE". Is this normal? Also, it seems fast data speeds are difficult to come by, and spotty. Before I purchased, I checked the bands it supports, and it shows it supports all but one (band 77). I've verified the APN, its correct. VOLTE, and WiFi calling works. It's on One UI 2.0 Android 10. Thanks in advance!
4G = LTE....
Thank you for the clarification. Also, its band 71, not band 77. My typo

Where are you located, are you in a Band 71 area? Not having Band 71 can be a big deal in some areas. Use an app like LTE discovery to see what you are actually connecting to.

Im located in Portland, OR. So far, ive been utilizing bands 2, and 4. Sometimes band 12. I get speeds anywhere from 2mbps to 100mbps. My wife has a s10 plus with the 855, and her speeds are around 20 to 40 mbps higher.
Ive been doing testing on different firmwares. So far, it seems Switzerland has the best performance. CSC: AUT.

Question Force enable carrier aggregation outside us.

Hi everyone. Im wondering if this is possible for pixel 6 pro. Basically my unit is direct from us store which is G8VOU. Now im using it in Malaysia and 4g lte works fine.
Now im wondering if carrier aggregation is possible through root. Right now from what see through netmonster it can do 2ca on the same band(check screenshot). I think its aggregating two towers with the same band, i may be wrong though.
Anyone had any idea how to force enable multi band ca? The local sold phone can go up to 5ca which are mainly band 1, 3, 7 ,8. Thanks in advance.
I would also like to know
Is it not 4G+ an indication of currently using carrier aggregation?
Try to download NPerf app and click on speed test button. It will detect your carrier and mention it's currently on 4G+ or LTE-A
Another proof is below when you check in *#*#4636#*#* . Currently my Yoodo is on band 7 and band 3.
And Digi Malaysia only have 1 band which is Band 7

I sometimes have band 3 and 8 as well. Just never 3 or 4ca at a time. Only up to 2ca max.
The modem decides aggregation.
