First, TWRP for the P2XL is NOT dead. The current version works, which is why there aren't any unofficial ports.
Second, an update to TWRP to resolve the issues uncovered when updating to Android 10 is planned. The developer has a family and is concentrating on that right now, so it will be a while.
Third, take the source and build TWRP yourself. Then you can make the thread you think is needed.

Thank you for your 3 points there

I doubt any insult was intended.
The answers were direct and to the point, but they were accurate. The suggestion to learn to dev on your own is simply that; in the event you can't find the development you're looking for, try and fill that void and learn to develop like countless others here have.
THAT suggestion has inspired innumerable members to learn to develop on their own, and many have gone on to be well regarded devs on Xda. So it's much more of a legitimate suggestion than the sarcastic response you may have thought it was.

So knowing those three things is going to make you a dev?
1. http://bit.ly/dGelUt
2. http://bit.ly/fWKXcB
3. http://bit.ly/eTznEb
All of which a google search would have helped you out. This is development section so I understand why you posted this here. But I think you should take a step back since given those three questions could have been found out on your own, shows you have no self motivation yet. Development is a community effort I agree, but there isn't much hand holding. Posting this only showed that your looking for someone to do it for you. That isn't the way to go.
Op= original poster. The other questions I will leave for the true devs

OP: person who started thread.
Linux distro: not necessary, but many like Ubuntu (I have used Red Hat for a long time)
Tools: Download a kitchen if you just want to build roms, otherwise ask specific questions on what it is you are looking to do and usually someone here can either get you what you want.....or at least point you in the right direction.
And yes, this should have been posted in Q&A

Then maybe he will next time direct his "lazy" questions to the Q&A. Sorry I'm a blunt person. If you want you can look through the 3000 pages on the compile GB thread I posted and look at the tons of advice I give. You can also see me tell people the truth, some people don't like it. Some people get it, understand what I am telling them, and better themselves.
PS. I did answer his questions.

Brushed my teeth this morning but thanks for the advice. Seems you always need that last little word in there somewhere which is fine because not offense taken by your comments. CM 11 Timeframe?

If you could give a timeframe of an official CM11 nightly build put out for the Galaxy Nexus (toro), how long do you think we're away from that without it having major bugs (graphic glitches,? Weeks? 1-2 months?
First rule of fight club. Can't tell if troll...
What do you mean about trolling? I haven't seen any toro official builds posted for CM11...
Every CM11 ROM will have glitches Unless there's an updated Kernel that comes with it
You're going to get skinned alive for asking about this, let alone making a thread about it.
Gggg
Lolz
First rule of cm is no ETA's. So no you won't get an answer.

Let's say you are creating a product. People keep asking away in your face when you are going to release it, based on your "estimation". Do you like it?
The first rule in development is NEVER asking ANYONE to put out an ETA. Developers hate them and they are utterly disrespectful.
I asked for a mod to delete the thread. I wasn't aware it was so taboo to ask other users as myself when they thought it would come to light.
I've been flashing since the original Motorola Droid an while I know it's rude to ask the dev directly, I wasn't aware it was so bad to ask people's opinions of when they thought it might be out by their estimation of what CM has done in the past after offiicial Android releases. Knee jerk reaction in my opinion by some people, but it is what it is.
I agree with you. The thing that devs complain about concerning ETAs is, when development threads get cluttered with this sort of posts and when people ask the same question again and again although it was answered already.
I think there is nothing bad about discussing possible dates for a new CM and current problems that prevent them from releasing. Where else if not in the "general" section of a forum is the right place to discuss such things. It is definitely more interesting than another thread where people rant about google or ask whether a 5$ 5000mAh china made battery will increase their devices battery life...

No ETA has been a CM rule for a while. None of us know when, how, or where. I thought it was a troll post myself tbh

I'm not a big fan of ETA topics either but rather than berate another user I just choose not to post in them.
I understand the "first rule" but this isn't the cyanogen forums, it is xda...If fellow users here want to speculate on ETA's I don't see the issue in that.
What are the major bugs right now? Just the graphic glitches and random freezes?
I really appreciate the devs that bring the unofficial builds, and while I don't try them out because I like something really stable, it's really amazing to see such a big dev community still developing for this phone literally two years after releasing tomorrow.
I honestly feel like if a workable 4.4 rom is made for the Galaxy Nexus I'll keep the phone for at least another year because on CM 10.2 it's smooth as hell for me in my daily usage. And while there are bigger and better phones out there obviously, this fits my needs perfectly. Or I should saw wants perfectly.
Lol. I also meant no disrespect. Just honestly couldn't tell if this was real. There have been many posts like this in the past made to create xda havoc. And sadly it usually works.
I don't see much harm it wouldn't hurt to put discussion before the title though. My thoughts about asking for ETA's is like the same as asking does anyone know when a chicken is going to fall out of the sky and rip my heart out. Lol

Stable 4.4 ROM

I'm looking for a stable 4.4 which would be as stable as possible. The reason for this is that I use my Nexus for alarm clock and it's really unpleasant if I find it in SOD when I oversleep. I don't really need so much additional features, it's a bonus though, but it's more important that it's fast and bugless.
Are there any or should I stay on Cataclysm 4.3?
Well, you can only reliably know which ROM is the most stable by trying them yourself. That's part of the culture of XDA, to try ROMs from different developers and then to give feedback on them.
As for me, I just installed the latest CM11 nightly and it seems reasonably stable. Will test the battery life and stability for a few more days after installing some apps. Will try XenonHD next if this one isn't stable enough or has poor battery life. The phone does get hot when I'm running heavy applications and games, which is the only problem I have noticed so far.
Im running the CM11 Nightlies as well and cant complain at all. Havent had any issues with any of them. I usually update every couple days to the latest nightly.
If it's just using the device as an alarm, then CM11 nightlies would be quite enough. I've been using my own GNex as an alarm too.
Sent from Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE @ CM11
I've read through several ROM threads that a lot of them have have slowdowns and lags. Is that also the case for CM11? How about other CM based ROMs, like CM-remix?
Can't say much about other roms (aside from CM i've only ever tried AOKP jb-mr2 briefly), i'm on CM11 M2 right now and i can say it's smooth and has no hiccups and lags - much better than stock 4.3 and cm10.2 which i had beforehand.
I'm also using the device as an alarm clock and it works well.
Seriously? How many times do people have to be told that threads like this are against XDA rules. If you want a stable rom then try some roms out yourself and decide what you prefer for yourself. This is a development community meant for people that want to take the initiative to learn and do for themselves not a place for people to have others do their work for them.
Do some reading and you'll surely find the answers you seek.

me too. cant find anything. CM blows, pa has graphics glitches and vanir gives me reboots.
tried em all and they all seem to suck.
4.3 is waaaay smoother for me.
a stock 4.4.2 build would be great.
if anyone finds any decent roms + a good 4.4 kernel (Franco/Faux) or two let me know.
Nephilim, sorry, I thought that it's forbidden to open only general ROM comparison threads, but I'm asking only for the ideas of pretty specific needs. You could also take this thread as a discussion if 4.4 ROMs in general are really stable enough for everyday use.
Not all of us have time to test every build of every ROM, because it would take a bit too much. That's why we have a community here to ask others for their opinion and experiences. At least that's how I imagine it, but of course, I might be wrong.

No it isnt illegal. But these threads are pointless... There is no best ROM so these threads will never be solved/answered. And the devs work hard to build a ROM and then some people in a thread will tell him his ROM sucks and the other one is better.. Its personal preference anyway. And every ROM is stable otherwise they wouldnt be released on xda (except when told otherwise or in beta etc.). Thats the whole point. There are tons of these threads. They are just useless. Just try out a ROM and if it suits your needs be happy and thank the developer and if you arent just move on to the next one.

My problem is that if you aren't willing to put in the work and try roms yourself you have no business on a development forum. Asking others is just looking for someone else to do the work for you. Threads like this are basically spam because any info you need can be found in the threads made for each rom. If you are asking in a thread like this you are definitely lazy because you obviously dont want to put in the effort of finding the information by reading the rom threads. Mrgnex pretty much said the rest.

I'd fully agree with your comments, IF this thread was posted in development section, but it's not, it's in the GENERAL section.
So I don't see why NORMAL users(AKA non-flashaholics) can't freely discuss which ROM they prefer, regardless of stability.
BTW
I've tried out a lot of different/newer ROM's from 4.1 to 4.4.2 yet every time I've still went back to using PA 4.1.2 for over a year now, since no other ROM have the exact same great features I enjoy using daily.
Also I don't see why any Developer would really care if certain people dislike their ROM's, seeing as the whole reason they created one would be because they disliked the other ROM's available and wanted to build one them selves to their liking, many using the same features from other developers, just with their own tweaks.
Which is what I'm thinking I'll have learn to do since every ROM I've tested has some feature that's just not working as I'd like.
You suggesting every user go and test out every ROM just means there will be more individual threads created complaining about every ROM they flash/test.
So don't you think it's better to have 1 or 2 main ROM version threads in the GENERAL section to DISCUSS different individual Rom's in the GENERAL matter?
In other words if you don't really have anything to help out in the thread topic/discussion then just don't view it.
I personally enjoy reading about what others have to say, likely saving me time and headache from having to test out every Rom's myself.
I very much doubt there would be as many Rom's available as there are today if nobody discussed them.
Wasn't that the whole point of having an open sourced android OS?

First of all, threads like this would not be constantly deleted by Senior Moderators if they were allowed. Next, I never once said that everyone should go and try every rom. I said that people need to go to the rom threads and READ, if the rom seems like something they would like to try then they should flash it, if not move onto another rom. Next, after flashing the said rom they are trying they can READ the thread pertaining to said rom to find answers to their questions.
You see where I am going here?
There is NO REASON for threads like this. All the information anyone could need can be found in the rom threads. If an individual needs to make a thread like this it just says that they are too lazy to read all the information that is already provided in multiple threads, available to everyone. If you want to discuss a rom then make a community on Google+, I already have done the same. This site is called XDA Developers. If you have questions about a rom then read the thread about the rom and if you do not see the question you have already asked then go ahead and ask it.
If you want to make a thread here in the general section to discuss a rom you have already flashed and are running, that would not be a big issue either but..... Making a thread simply to ask others to tell you which rom is most stable or which rom is the best serve no purpose but to congest areas of XDA with useless spam.
If you are here, you have either rooted your device or plan to, either way if you are here for that then you have enough brains to read and gain knowledge the correct way by doing the legwork yourself.
If the amount of effort you put into trying to debate my legitimate reasons why this thread does not belong was put into discovering roms for yourself then there would never be a need for anyone to make a thread like this.
Bottomline, only lazy people make threads like this and XDA is for forum for adults seeking to enhance their knowledge of mobile development by way of contribution, not a G+ community to request everyone do your work for you while you sit around posting screenshots of your homescreen and icon theme.
Not a thing anyone responds to me with will justify these type of useless threads. Every way you can learn what you need about roms has been mentioned in my posts and none of them require an entire thread dedicated to asking others to give you the answers.

I would respectfully disagree. Not everyone has followed the entire course of development for the Galaxy Nexus from the beginning. It is hard to know where to start if you are just now reading up on things (as I am). People are trying to do their research otherwise they would just flash any old thing and then complain when nothing works.
In many other fields (I work in biology) it is very common to have a review article to get people up to speed on a specific topic without them having to read every primary piece of evidence on a topic because that is a lot of needless repetitive work that has already been done. It isn't being lazy. It is being efficient.
I stumbled upon this thread and found it to be EXACTLY what I was looking for and very relevant. Just a quick guide to let me know if it was worth looking into kitkat roms or if (as I suspected) I should stick with Jelly Bean roms for now since stability is also my primary goal. I can't understand the hostile nature towards people trying to educate themselves that seems to permeate xda sometimes...

Just a quick guide to let me know if it was worth looking into kitkat roms or if (as I suspected) I should stick with Jelly Bean roms for now since stability is also my primary goal. I can't understand the hostile nature towards people trying to educate themselves that seems to permeate xda sometimes...

Apparently you have not read a word of what I posted.
There is NO reason for these type of posts because all the information you seek on a rom or kernel is in their respective thread. Even if you do not want to use them you still have all the review you need from people on the thread that actually used the rom or kernel, these threads are a copout for lazy people that do not take the time to read where the information is already easily accessible. These types of threads are spam, they are made by people who come to XDA and do not even put a second of time into looking through threads before just expecting that posting a new thread and asking about what is the best will get them all the info they need without any effort.
I have said this many times already, In school, when you have a test or assignment, does your teacher give that test or assignment to you and then immediately hand over the answers? Hell no they don't, they expect you to research and study to find the answers. As adults that is what should be done here as well, otherwise you ultimately learn nothing.
I use the official 4.4.2 gummy build and it is very stable for me and have not encountered any issues.

I am using VanirAOSP. Its very fast and also stable!

Where is Rom development?

Why the rom development for our phone is too slow?? I cant see even a single rom based on aosp or cm
It is because bootloader is locked for G3, and recently devs found the way to get past the bootloader. They are working on AOSP and other roms, but we need to wait.

Do some reading instead of just posting crap like this - there's many roms being worked on

Any type of query is never a crap..i have posted my confusion in a sincere manner..if you think this is a crap then there are lot of questions which will stay in our mind and will never be posted here. These forums are for clarifying our confusions and it does not matter what they are..thanks a lot for your reply
A search and your could have found an answer - your post seems demanding - to answer your question - why is rom development slow....
Cause your're impatient.
Dude

This post seems rude and impatient. I realize you were asking for help with a legitimate question, but you asked it the complete wrong way. A quick search would have shown you that Bump was released for all G3 variants on October 10th. It has been 2 weeks since the bootloader was unlocked and Team Codefire has not publicly released the method to Bump kernels yet. Reading just a few of the G3 threads for any device would have given yiu your answer and so many people are already discussing this. I apologize for being harsh and I hope I have answered your question.
After some months I'm thinking about changing rom. Thanks for the news.

Achievements on xda and bunch of useless/nonsense threads

This is total BS, because of achievements on xda forum now we have bunch of useless/nonsense threads.. please do something about that.
"Special" people are posting total BS threads just to get achievements(including multiple same threads in different sections).
You can say same for this thread . Yeay, i got new achievement . Haha, really gonna get it after I'll post this!
Ok, seriously, i hope you get the point. And yes I already reported bunch of them, this is never ending story.
Again, please do something, it's becoming really painful to find decent threads and not user friendly.
Let me give you an example same threads, same posts, same files and it isn't even his work:

Let's make XDA better!
People sharing someone else's work,
is older than XDA, certainly older than achievements.
Probably older than the wheel.
They should be asking for the Dev's permission and giving credit.

When you don't know what has happened, you shouldn't report a thread. I didn't even get a single achievement for making this thread. The thread was made way too early when I just joined XDA so how do you think I will get an achievement ??? I myself am reporting spam threads from two days or so. Just don't say anything if you don't know. (Sorry everyone else cause I sound too rude but this is second time I've had a battle with this man and I seriously don't know what is his problem.)
And about your problem regarding multiple same threads in different sections, yeah I did a grave mistake and I'm sorry . Though I am a senior member, I am quite new to everything. I came here for learning some things but it seems like "some Dev's" don't at all like new people.

Extremely sorry sir. I'll tell you what exactly happened. The rom is actually made by @Android-Andi and he didn't post it on XDA. So I sent him a PM asking permission to share his work on XDA but got no reply at all. Then I saw his profile and he was last online in 2020 and I also read his comments here and there which said he has left development and source is open for everyone and all that. I assumed that he either forgot to make a thread or got too busy with life so I made it for him. I know I've not fully taken permission to share his work but I somehow wanted everyone to come across this. Hope I've not done something really wrong. I have not modified it or uploaded it somewhere else or anything, I've just shared it.
Later, @Badger50 who knew all of this also moved the thread to general section of the device. He pointed me to right direction regarding which links should I give, I should share kernel source and almost everything.
He didn't post it???? Kmm

I don't know maybe I'm blind
And in same post you have permission.
You didn't read it nor used search.
But it's not the point. The point is, you double post same thread, same files. That's my problem! It is to hard to understood that?
@Badger50 moved thread after my report.
Don't get wrong I'm not against sharing but not multiple times.
I think @sd_shadow missed the point.

You give me link of Slimrom 7 and ask me he didn't post project /e/ ????Anyway the thread's fully updated and I'm not going to do any more edits to it.
Regarding your double post same threads and files, didn't I tell you it was a mistake ??? And I got punishment too cause the unified thread is closed.
I don't at all want to get wrong

XDA Achievements isn't fully rolled out yet, but will be in early June. We'll be making changes to it so it makes more sense and properly rewards people for being good members the community and avoid people posting junk like this. Thanks for your feedback!
