Replacing stock camera app with gcam - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

I've downloaded the latest gcam port and it works great on my RN8, problem is I cannot launch it with any of the default shortcuts, double press on power or double vol down press.
I can make it the default camera app through MIUI but it has no bearing on launching it as default camera app so in effect making it the default app is pointless.
The lockscreen camera button doesn't lauch it eaither despite again being the default app?
Any ideas anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller....................??

MIUI explicitly calls the stock camera, even if GCam is set as default the stock camera (com.android.camera) will be started.
Your best bet is to install a custom AOSP based ROM.

[REQUIRED] Camera button mapping

Are there any apps available that allows you to use the nexus 4 hardware keys (volume up, volume down) as camera buttons such as a shutter button. All solutions so far require a camera app replacement but none work on the stock camera app. It would be a really nice feature to use the volume keys as a shutter button on the stock camera app.
There is a ROM on the Galaxy Nexus called Cataclysm which has the stock Google (with Photosphere) app modified to use power button for shutter and volume for zoom. Would be nice if someone did something similar for the Nexus 4...
EDIT: I've PM'd the dev of the GNex ROM to see if he can mod the N4 camera app. Here's hoping!

[Q] Manually Changing the Quicklaunch Key to Camera in CM11

I'm on Madmack's 11/26/13, CM11 build and I'm trying to remap the extra quick launch button we have above the volume rocker on CM11 - basically I want it as my camera button.
I've been able to do this on other phones by manual editing the proper keyboard layout file.
The hardware keyboard layout file for the LGOP on CM11 appears to be: /system/user/gk-keypad-8064.kl
The quick launch button is Key 250 and by default its set to ASSIST (which launches the Search function oddly enough).
Normally just changing ASSIST to CAMERA and rebooting is sufficient to launch the CAMERA functions - doesn't work with my LGOP on CM11. However, once changing Key 250 to CAMERA, it does take pictures if you manually launch the camera app.
Switching it to Key 250 CAMERA WAKE oddly enough makes the quicklaunch button function exactly the same as when you press down on the screen for 2+ seconds and the home screens shrink to the center and Wallpapers/Widgets/Settings pop up.
I can tell you that changing Key 250 to POWER, VOLUME_UP, VOLUME_DOWN, HOME all work... just can't get the CAMERA function to work.
Any thoughts or ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
I have no idea but this is would be great. I hope someone can chime in to help you out.

hey, decompressed an old nandroid of the stock rom...
i'm pretty sure i had the quicklaunch button set to the default "press to launch camera/press again to snap a pic" action, and my gk-keypad-8064.kl had key 250 set to QUICK_CLIP
Can we set it to a particular app? particularly to display recent apps?
Isn't there a "buttons" section in the phone settings? I used that to switch search function to camera and tested, it works great. Only downside is its not a 2-step shutter button lol.
Hi have you tryed changing it to camera wake_dropped? ive remapped another LG phone and that was the code i used. ill try it now aswell

A similar question
In looking through the forums, this thread seemed to be the closest to users having a similar situation to myself. I have an LGOP running the latest nightly of CM11 and I would also like to map the quick search button to a different function. While there are buttons options to set it to launch the camera app, it launches the default camera app and I would like it to launch the latest version of Google's camera app. Does anyone know how to do this?
Gravity box I think can pull it off

WEll I was searching for something similar, to remap our Quick button and assign anything to it! and I have found an xposed module which can do the job here you go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spazedog.xposed.additionsgb

[Q] How to change the default camera app for the hardware button?

I'm using Carbon ROM, which is based on AOSP, on my Xperia S LT26ii.
It's a good ROM but the stock camera is bad at focusing so I switched to Google Camera.
But although I select Google Camera as the default camera app, what the hardware camera button calls is still the stock one. If I disable the stock camera, it will call nothing after a long pressing of the button.

Haven't tried it myself, but I think Xposed Additions can be used for this.

Motion Launch Gesture Default Camera App

Is there a way to change the default camera app that launches when I use the volume button motion gesture to launch the camera? I would like to use a different app than the default one that launches. My phone is rooted, and I don't mind messing with files.
I'm using a Sense based rom (Wolla v6.2)

Use Google Camera with lockscreen swipe/double power button tap shortcut?

Hi,
I'm setting up the Note 5 Pro for my GF - enabled camera2api and installed Arnova's GCAM mod, everything's working fine. Running stock MIUI 10.
However, even after setting gcam as the default camera app, the lockscreen swipe or double power button shortcut still launches the stock camera app.
Is it possible to change this?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Miha
