what will get more support for roms Redmi Note 8 or Redmi Note 8 Vs Note 8 Pro - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

so I was reading the Note 8 Pro was given to a lot of devs for free so they would build roms for it. but has a media MediaTek and that makes it harder
The Redmi Note 8 uses a snapdragon and is supported more and easy to build for,
I care more about roms than a little bit of speed that I will get with the pro
SO what will get more support / be easier to build for? thanks for reading my post

Redmi Note 8: 2 custom ROMs
Redmi Note 8 Pro: 0 custom ROMs
The choice is yours

I had it for a few days now and what a fantastic device.
The stock ROM doesn't seem too bad.
With there being only two ROMs maybe I should wait a while.
Recovery seems pretty straightforward to flash.
Any chances of bricking?

Development potential oft redmi note 8 / redmi note 8 pro

Hi everybody,
I am considering to buy this phone, (rmn8 pro), however it ships with the mediatek G90T processor. in the past my understanding was that ROM development for mediatek based phones is troublesome due to missing sources. Can anyone confirm this issue for me?
Would it therefore be better to buy the non pro version of rthe rmn8 shipping with an snapdragon 655 processor?
Yeah I'd like to know it too.
OK - so it seems that if we want custom ROMs we should go with the non pro version.
Based on xiaomis history and the development activity for the redmi note 3 snapdragon and redmi note 3 mediathek there is a considerable difference.
Furthermore it appears that it took 3 years for xiaomi to release the kernel source for the rmn 3 and the rmn 2 mediatek version. In general it appears that the source release is up to the OEMS - e.g. Xiaomi. Mediathek is known to only distribute the source to customers or people who are willong to pay.
This is kind of disappointing as the pro version of the rmn8 is quite a bit better.
Any other opinions ?
I want the pro version but mtk processor no way ill be buying as I want gcam and custom roms.
I would suggest you to wait for the Global launch because Xiaomi might launch RN8Pro with Snapdragon soc..

That could be the case, but I guess it won't happen as they try to create some hype around the new helio chips.
If Xiaomi released source code for kernel, there is chance for start develop custom ROMs and kernels, but SoC from Qualcomm Snapdragon still more universal. I think MediaTek will get custom ROMs/kernels but Gcam will be more problematic. In my opinion XDA members should try create better support for MediaTek SoC. Why ? MediaTek Helio G90T it's seriously impressive SoC with some more performance than SD730G.
The phone is very, very good

The problem is that MTK doesn't fully release the sources of their SoC's that's why it has low development here in XDA.

Exactly my thoughts.... Redmi Note 7 pro has lot of developments going on and it is better than Redmi Note 8.
Redmi note 8 has Samsung sensor which does not have much gcam support.
Redmi note 7 pro has Sony sensor which works flawlessly with gcam.

Well about development, sure note 7 Pro may have better Dev support coz it's an older device but as far as gcam support is concerned, you may be wrong, I'm using note 8 and it's working flawless. At least it's giving much better camera results when compared to poco

Which Phone to buy? Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Redmi Note 8

Hello everyone,
I wanna hear what your thoughts about the Note 8 Pro vs Note 8.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to buying the Pro? I see that on paper it is much better than the Note 8 however, there doesn't seem to be a lot of custom roms/kernels for it and there is also a bricking issue with the MTK processor.. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? Would you exchange your Note 8 Pro for a Normal variant if you could? Do you have any regrets? Are new custom roms coming in the future? What do you think?
Thank you for your responses.

the processor in Rn8 is alright not as fast compared to MTK in RN8p (i do alot of multi tasking etc)
I reluctantly bought the RN8p because the only variant in RN8 available was 4/128 - needed that extra ram
i neither game nor am much into photography so can't comment there.
Have it rooted and finally setup nearly to my liking, but MTK does suffer from availability of roms and the bricking issues - waiting for RN9p, will move to it if the reviews turn out +ve
Note 8 < Note 8 Pro
Because better processor. Better performance for the price. Also custom roms aren't as rare as some people would have you believe. We have 5 ROMs in testing phase at the moment. And it's just a matter of just one of them having a breakthrough in terms of fixing some known issues. Then we can possibly run any custom rom we want in this phone.
if you are planning to use as a normal user and not planning to mod and install ROMs then RN8P is the way to go if you plan to do mod and flash rom and stuff then other phones might have better dev support.

Note 8 Pro or 9S

I have a new Note 8 Pro 6Gb Ram & 64GB, unopened.
However I have seen that I can now get the Redmi note 9S 4GB RAM (on promo) for the same price. The question should I order the 9S and return this one.
What is important for me is battery life, display quality and custom rom support. Overall Performance should be 'smooth' but I'm no gamer, just play the odd game.
Oh the size is important, I don't want anything too big. Just holding the Note 8 Pro, I am already thinking its already maybe abit too big. The 9S adds a couple more mm.
I guess future custom rom support for the 9S should be very good, it looks like it will be a big seller and having a Snapdragon CPU probably means more choice of custom roms ?
Any thoughts ?

Redmi Note 8 Pro is better

The 8 pro is better.

Redmi note 9 pro aka note9s is way too big. And the finishing is not as good as note 8 pro. The thick black plastic around the sreen is thicker than redmi note 8. You can see from the side.
You should keep note 8 pro.

Redmi Note 9 Pro is not the same as Note 9s. For example, Note 9 Pro has NFC. 9s does not.

Deciding between Note 8 and Note 8T

Hi guys,
I have the option of buying either the Redmi Note 8 or Note 8T at basically the same price.
Can you help me decide which one is best, taking in consideration the community support and rom updates for each? I ask because a friend told me that the Note 8 actually had better support.
Thank you

Note 8 is better if you ask me, lot of roms are unified, but some roms are 8 only. That would be enough, plus I think that 8 has notification led, 8T does not.
Your friend already gave you good advice, I am stuck with 8T because my mobile provider had only that model, otherwise I would go with 8 only and never PRO, as you are already aware of I think.

I am a noob in all of this, so I am yet to truly try to customise my phone, roms, etc. But I see myself doing it in the future and thus why it may be important to have a phone with an active community support.
Right now, I am trying to figure out what is the best option to buy in this price range:
Realme 6i (4GB ram, 128Gb rom)= 163€
Note 8 = 150 euros
Note 8 T = 156euros
Note 8T has the NFC which is kind of useful (and seems like a faster charger). Other than that, it seems that the Note 8 is more appealing to some due to the mentioned custom roms and Led notifications.
I would really appreciate if folks could just nudge me in the right way with these options.
Cheers
Other element to take into account :
Note 8 global version doesn't have LTE BAND B28 700Mhz
Note 8 international version and Note 8T have LTE BAND B28 700Mhz
if you don't need NFC get note8
the NFC chip consume battery

Is it still worth it to buy the Redmi Note 8?

I currently have the budget to buy a phone in the prices of the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 9, I am really into custom roms and I'm currently leaning into buying the Redmi Note 8 just because of it. Will the Redmi Note 8 still be supported by the developers here in the long run or are a lot of them transitioning in buying the new Redmi Note?
In my experience the redmi line have developer support during several years. My last phone was a redmi 5 plus (vince) and even today there are quality custom roms available (but there are not many options anymore). I bought a RN 8 recently and I think it is still a good device, especially considering that RN9 has a mediatek processor and the development for that device is going to be harder. Sorry for my bad English btw.

appreciate it, my brother just bought a Redmi Note 9, I'm not really feeling the size of the phone, plus I don't think there's going to be much development because of the processor? I guess I'll just go with this, the roms with the RN8 seems pretty great.
Take into consideration that Xiaomi is really delaying updates for this phone, even Redmi note 7 got updates sooner.
