My phone's battery wont charge anymore.
It charges only if I first disconnect battery, plug charger on phone, then turn on phone to boot in android, and then connect battery with phone.
Is this a hardware or software problem?
(i am guessing that there is some switch when battery is full, that it stops charging battery, and only powers phone) if its hardware based, which component should i change
When the 1st time phone stopped charging battery, i did factory reset and it charged battery normally for few times, and now even factory reset doesnt suffice.
Charger and cable works on my other phone and tablet without any problems.
Usb port on phone is probably ok, becouse phone always turns on without battery
Maybe the battery is faulty? I mean if the phone turns on just fine while connected to a power source and no battery installed, I'd assume the battery is dead.

When i charge battery with this method, phone works ok with fully charged battery without charger plugged in.
But when i need to charge battery again, i have to repeat those steps i mentioned before.
I tried a lot of steps mentioned on A2 (not lite) forums, as i seen a lot of users had similar problems tried all options without success, some have changed battery, mb and usb port, and that didnt help either.

Probably your phone's USB connection loosen solder, one of the terminals (either ground, data connection or positive terminal) might loose or gets rusted and thus, never charge phone properly. My SM-J500H (my other phone) does the same syndrome that it just charge but not really charging at all, because of 'green' rusted USB port.
Try checking your USB port and if there's some rust in there, or some loose solder. Try also change USB port (by your technician) if it still persist.

Hi, recently my touch pro 2 doesn't want to boot. It happened when I was using my phone on the net and the phone just ran out of battery.
Then it turned off. Afterwards I hooked it up on the PC usb charger. So i was awaiting for the phone to charge but then it just decides to 'turn on' unexpectedly - it will show the boot screen and then the windows mobile - then it just blanks and turns off.
I HAVEN'T done any of the following: hard reset or go to booting.
Is there anyway you guys can help me on what step I should do! please! thanks

have you tried charging your batterie the normal way instead of true usb? Maybe that wil help.
If that doesn't work and if you are sure that the batterie has sufficiend power try to hard reset.
I have this exact same problem...I'll lay out how I've tried (and failed) to fix it for anyone who knows what they're doing to look at.
I have tried both hard resetting and soft resetting, when hard resetting it does not have enough time to complete before turning off again. Soft resetting just continues the process.
Trying the whole convoluted 'disable usb connections in activesync, then use a usb port sniffer' method also doesn't work, because the phone doesn't stay on long enough.
When plugged into both the computer and wall it has the orange charging light on, but other than turning on uptil the vodafone screen and vibrating a bit, pressing any button does nothing.
Thanks in advance even if no one can help - it'll help me kill time till I can be bothered to go all the way to the vodafone shop!
I've experienced this before and it is happening because the battery is too low to power on your device.
Plug it in to the wall charger and let it charge. It may turn on by itself and then shut down due too extremely low power but if you keep it plugged in via the mains Charger (wall charger) it will get enough power and you'll be back to normal.
joker, if it started the hard reset process and then restarted before the hard reset was complete, you might need to either redo the hard reset process or go it into bootloader mode and re-flash your rom.

This is the way to handle indeed.
Just let it charge from the mains for a while (15 minutes should be enough) before powering it on.
USB just does not provide enough power to charge your device, I have my TP2 on USB throughout the day, and the battery even slowly loses charge as my laptops USB port simply cannot provide enough juice...

Depends, but certainly regardless USB provides less current than the supplied charger does.
I have multiple laptops, a few of my own at home, several here at work of various makes and models, and it depends.. One in particular seems to provide as much current over USB as the AC charger as the phone charges as fast as I'd expect it to there, others as you say barely charge the phone at all unless it's idle and off. Most of these laptops however do charge the phone, just slowly.

I've got a Rhodium100, but it won't charge nor it'll boot.
When connected to original charger or pc the phone starts. Then I can see the HTC logo and it dies again. The battery seems to be totally dead
What I've triend so far:
1. Pulled out the battery
2. Multiple cabels for the charger
3. Soft reset
4. Hard reset (won't complete because the battery is dead)
5. Checked the on/off button (on top)
What else can I do to fix this problem? I'd like to try anything before sending the phone to HTC (did that 2 times before, but with other problems).

Buy a new battery and see if that helps. There are some cheap ones on ebay.
I just found another cable and it seems to be he's charging again. But after 5 hours of charging it's still on 40%.
When the battery-level is around 45% it goes downwards to around 38% and then to 45 again..
This is circulating..

You shouldn't let the battery completely die in the first place. A deep discharge of any Lithium Ion battery is not recommended because of this. If you've tried to do a hard reset and it did not complete, you may have destroyed the ROM image. If it doesn't turn back on, flash a stock ROM.
Always try to charge the device before it gets to 5% remaining battery. 10% is recommended, but 5% is the lowest the battery should ever be. Having a second battery is always a good idea. I have two of them and an external battery charger. This way, I can always have a battery able to charge without needing the device just in case something goes awry.
Make sure you do not turn the device on. Leave the battery in the device overnight on the charger without turning it on. If it still does not function after this, you might try purchasing another battery and charger.
If you have time left on your warranty, this is covered by it. Simply call your carrier or HTC and they will fix it for you. It's generally faster to go through your carrier if you have the option to do so.

I've do the same as you flashing some ROM's also restoring original one(T-Mobile), buying new akku ang external charger- but nothing helps When I place battery in phone it switches on by self(seems like power button abridget but I've checked it with testing device), starting showing T-Mobile logo "Stick together" then shows windows logo then backlight fading then device restarts, so it happen infinite till battery fully goes empty. Now on phone is installed original ROM and I can't install any other- in bootloader I can install only SPL's, but other ROM's not installs (flashing process freezes on 0%). I haven't any ideas, somebody can help me? Thank you all.

It's a dead battery. If it powers on by itself, then you'll either want to get a new battery or an external battery charger. Make sure you're charging from the wall, and not a USB port.

Yes, I do as you suggest - bought new battery and wall charger, but no result. I doubt that new battery or charger is destroyed, but anything is possible... What actually kind of problem if phone couldn't do hard reset, not upgding ROM, also switches on when battery is placed into? 100% fault (discharged) battery?

I mentioned that you may need to charge the battery externally if it is powering on when you insert the battery. You'll either need a friend's phone to charge it, or buy an external charger. With the external charger, let it sit on the charger overnight, pop it in the phone, and then try again. If using an external charger does not work, then you may want to send the device in for repairs/replacement.

I bought a GN, I9250, European model, made in China 4 days back from a vendor online.
I am having problems charging the phone.
When PHONE is ON
1. When plugged into the included charger/cable, the battery status shows CHARGING (AC) for a few minutes and then changed to NOT CHARGING. Removing the USB plug or switching off the mains and restarting in a minute takes the status back to CHARGING (AC) but again for a few minutes.
2. Tried with multiple chargers and cables with exactly the same results
3. When the phone is connected to USB port in laptop, the charging happens, for a longer duration. The laptop also detects the phone immediately and I can access files etc. After say 20-30 minutes odd the status again goes to NOT CHARGING. However, while the phone is not charging, I can still access files on the phone. This implies the USB connectivity is still perfect, only the charging has stopped.
4. Under no circumstances does the charge go beyond 50% odd, irrespective of the duration of charging
When PHONE is OFF
1. The phone shows the battery icon with bolt for a few seconds and then shuts off. If I click the power button briefly I can see the battery charging icon.
2. I kept the phone in charging with the wall adapter all night, and got 49% charge only, starting from about 10% when put to charge.
The battery indicator graph shows the phone is has never hit a charge level above 65% types.
I have not seen the other charging issue of the phone showing a bolt in the battery icon even if the phone is not plugged in ! (thank god!!!)
I bought it "as new" condition, and performed a factory reset immediately on receiving the phone. So its running stock applications, with almost everything except voice and 2g data on. No applications except Whatsapp are running.
All other aspects of functionality are working well.
I have read hundreds of posts across the web and am not sure what the problem could be with my phone. I am in India and since the phone was bought off the net, its unlikely that it will be provided warranty etc here. In fact I'm not even sure if there will be servicing competency in the technicians here.
I have tried to puch the micro USB tongue by pushing it upwards gently, but cannot really say whether or not it did bend or i was just too fearful. Have tried removing battery etc and all other soft methods written everywhere.
Any help ???

I do suspect it myself, but I don't know how to verify this. Can any other Samsung phone battery be put in the phone or is the phone compatible only with this one? Getting another battery is not possible in the near future since this is not available in India...
Any thoughts on how to check this?

I have the same problem, but it's not the battery's fault. My brother also has a GNex, and I tried charging my phone with his battery, and vice-versa, without any luck. I think it's the USB port's fault. Something about power not getting to the phone correctly. Luckily I bought it at a store here. I talked to the owner, and I'm going to exchange it for a new one tomorrow.

Hello,
I found another GN and did this experiment.
1. When I plugged in my battery which was showing 53% on my phone into the other phone it showed 79%.
2. When I charged the other GN with my battery inside, it charged to 100%
3. When I put my battery back into my phone, it showed 67%
4. When I put in the other GN battery into my phone it showed 49%, while it was showing 82% in the other GN.
5. I was able to charge this other battery in my phone to 60%.
6. When I put it back into the other GN it showed 94% charge.
Apparently my battery seems to be ok. Also, it seems that my phone is charging ok too. But there may be a problem with the phone detecting the battery level !!
Any thoughts?

This all without success
The Problem is, sometimes it charge to 50%, the most it charge to 75% and one time i get it to 81% yeah

some battery got data issues where phone cant recognize the exact capacity. try check *#*#4636#*#* your capacity of ****mah should be correctly read by phone here. if not, change your battery immediately bcoz big issues will coming up

and a few minutes later it stop charging

your battery got data detected.. maybe this 3800mah extended battery was totally crap.
give 2-3 day period. charge wt ac plug & usb charging method. see if got any different between this 2 merhod. if not, try buy the good replacement before your emmc fried.
* maybe u should ask to another forum.. gnex accessories /batteries. they must be got some experiences wt this type of extended batteries. maybe.??

I always had problems with charging, having to wiggle the connection or something for it to work, but not this type of problem. Sometimes it goes up for like 1%, then down again, wiggling between 10% and 20% battery. This happened in the last 3 hours, i switched cables, wall plugs, etc. Still the same. What can i do? When i keep it plugged it does not discharge, but i'm afraid that if it gets to 0%, it'll die. What can be the problem? Please help me

Need some inputs before i zero down the problem
1) Are you using the stock charger that came with your phone. If so there is every possibility either the charger head or usb cable has gone faulty.
2) Type *#*#7378423#*#* and goto battery test and check its health condition. If it says condition is good then the fault is with your charger
3) Try using a charger which is a 1500ma charger.The normal charger supports only 800ma/500ma so your mobile will not be able to draw enough current from it and usually takes more time to charge or the charging rate with be equal to the discharging rate like in your case.

I had the same problem just recently - phone wouldn't charge to above 5% or so (if I was lucky) - all original charger. When I plugged in the charger, the led light flashed red, then another color (green or yellow, can't remember), and then it didn't charge.
I actually had some problems with charging a couple of times before - it went on and off like 5-6 time, but then it did start to charge normally after a while. This last time, I tried to charge it for hours without any luck.
If i booted it up, it sometimes charged to 4-5%, then it would stop/start/stop/start endlessly. The same thing happened when I connected the phone to my computer, the USB fell off/on/off/on endlessly. I thought it was a faulty cable / charger first, but this happened to all cables and chargers I tried. I then thought it was the USB-port on the phone. Or a faulty battery.
After a while, it mostly stopped at 1-2% - sometimes immediately. I noticed that after using the "battery button" to hard reset the phone, I always seemed to get a few %'s of charge, and it didn't just blink immediately when plugging in the charger.
I had even written my problem description and was about to send the phone back to the retailer, when I did one last try of factory resetting the phone from the recovery, wiping everything. The problem still existed when I booted the phone, however, entering the recovery again after factory reset - I actually noticed that the phone charged above 5% this time. Leaving it on charging while in recovery, it got up to 8%, and then I thought the problem was fixed. Booting again, still same charging problem. I then factory reset again, and tried recovery again... Leaving the charger on - I managed to charge it to 100%. After this, I've never had any problem charging the phone. :|
I don't know what solved the problem, it could be only charging from recovery, or it could be that the full wipe deleted some battery stats or something? I did install an app to wipe battery stats after the problems occured, it also showed the charging rate of the battery, and it went up and down like crazy when I had the problem.
I don't really know if this is of any help, but I had PhilZ recovery at least which I managed to charge with.
You can try any methods, but i realy think that it because bad accumulator.

If it is not help - your way is go to the service.
Usually it the problem with accumulator or power controller.

I'm at my wits end to put it lightly... I have the P-605, I was trying to flash ng1 official firmware through Odin v3.09, which the file in question, I have used a few times before so it isn't a bad download.
It got about half way through and died. The tablet still boots to the 'firmware upgrade has encountered an issue screen', I can still enter download mode. One major issue I can't charge it and i have no recovery [emoji22] its now dead flat.
Even with my 2.1Amp tablet charger it boots for a few seconds and dies. I've tried multiple cables and USB wall chargers as I thought that may be the issue all to no avail! I am completely lost. Any help would be muchly appreciated
What was the firmware before you flahed the stock ng1? cm11?
Have you try to flash recovery with Odin, don't let it boot up and see if you can boot into recovery.
Did you try to flash with low battery juice??
The prior firmware version is unknown :-/ but it was X KAT v3. I did try to flash recovery but it resets before it gets it done, if I hold the PWR, VOL+, HOME the screen seems to light up stay black a little longer than if it was going to the firmware issues screen then go to 'firmware upgrade has encountered issues' screen. It seems the longer I keep it off charge the longer it takes for it to reset next time its plugged in, so I will leave it for a hour and try to flash recovery. I didn't know what the battery was at 'probably very low' as I haven't used it in yonks and it was already in a bootloop from flashing X Kat v4.0 incorectly otherwise I would have charged it
I'm thinking about taking the battery out and manually charging it with a old USB cable. From pictures on the internet the battery has 2 red 'positive' 2 black 'negative' and 2 green. I'm unsure of what the green cables are. Is there anyone that can shed some light on this?

have a look here for the USB pinout !
The original cable uses only four of the micro usb pins. The second ground pin is missing. This can be used to put the device into certain modes. I used different cables, all with five pins, no problems, but it does not mean, that the fifth pin was wired in these cables. Batteries have an internal security circuit which cuts power vis a polyfuse, if the voltage drops too low. The fuse should be re-armed when connecting the device to the charger, although the device may not recognize its own battery. Let it charge for a while, that the fuse doesn't blow again when disconnecting. Plug in again to charge fully. Some devices have a design fault which makes them unable to recover with a discharged battery. Charging Voltage is not 5, but 3.7v! The additional cables at the bsttery are either for a dumb temp probe, or a bus to communicate with the security circuit. The latter maybe impossible to charge externally. Otherwise you probably need some professional charging station, which can handle all sorts of Nimh and LiOn batteries AND have to make an adapter for the custom battery plug. Too much hassle, right?

Get one of this usb filter charging adaptor and use your pc to charge it. This also allow you to charge your tablet using any power source like PC, car charger etc... you will not see the X mark when using your pc to charge.

This adaptor adds Apple signaling for charging currents above 0,5A. If the current charger won't support Apple stuff.
And yes, I suspect that the Note expects the Apple signal for 2A iPad charging.
I don't know whether there are any supported charge modes in between, like 900mA, but it charges from a standard 500mA usb port, but only in soft-off and idle deep sleep, and ultimatively slow.
But then, since the KK update, some people's Notes charge only during active state.

I have the same issue.........!!!
I'm lost at this point and dont know what to do.
Any attempts at flashing appear to be useless as there is now zero battery and it wont charge.
It boots straight to 'Firmware encountered a problem screen'. I can get it to the download screen.
It also made it 47% of the way through a recovery via kies, but i think the battery issue caused the failure.
If the cable is pulled out while in the firmware encountered a problem screen it instantly dies and wont start. It wont start unless the plug is in........
Anyone??? Please???
With zero battery, you can't perform any maintenance requiring a usb connection.
Without OS and/or custom recovery, i don't know any advice.
ADB and probably Fastboot operations can be performed via wifi, while the thing is at the charger, but in brick state this won't help.

Maybe the Note froze and drained the battery till it's safety circuit kicked in.
Then you should leave the Note charging for a while(hopefully), to reset the circuit's fuse and get enough juice to not trigger it again immediately. Normally, after unplugging and replugging, the battery should get recognized again and charge normally till full. Monitoring charge in Off-State requires(only) a working kernel, i think.
It also could be a defunct usb jack or just the connection with the main pcb is loose, which is typical for the Note, like loose display and backlight cables.

Normally, after unplugging and replugging, the battery should get recognized again and charge normally till full. Monitoring charge in Off-State requires(only) a working kernel, i think.
It also could be a defunct usb jack or just the connection with the main pcb is loose, which is typical for the Note, like loose display and backlight cables.

I have had the unit aprt a few times to verify battery connections and all ribbon connections on the boards are ok.
Im note sure of the safety circuitry uou mention though.
I have also power the device up with out the battery plugged in at all. So i know the supply is there. Maybe i have run the battery too low to recover?

The safety circuit is in the battery or attached to it. Once its fuse has been triggered(normally at 2,5v), the battery shows zero voltage & open circuit. Current from a charger should reset the fuse and the battery will charge unless it had been discharged below 1,5v.
Normally devices with 3,7v batteries are shut down by the system at 3,5-3,0 volts, mostly 3,5 like the Note.
Well the device started to flicker and couldn't keep the screen back light on when it go low.... I'd say I have trashed the battery then if it got below 1.5?!
I have left it on charge for over 10 hours a couple of times and achieved nothing
Android shuts down at 3,5v, in case of a freeze(which could go unnoticed if it happens in standby) the circuit at 2,5v. Then it's a matter of self discharge, till the battery reaches the critical point of 1,5v.
The flickering backlight denotes one of the other cables running across the battery, like that for usb.
I think the connections loose by holding the note in your hands, pressing on the backside. A case with a stiff back will stabilize the Note, like mine. Otherwise all pressure goes thru the flimsy back and is applied on the battery, the metallic shields or some spacers. And the cables get bent very slightly during pressure. Should be harmless, but seemingly isn't.
I have done some testing... here it goes:
Battery Voltage disconnected 2.69V
Battery Connected and USB connected 2.8V
Battery not connected or ( after accidently) shorted 1.5V
From my reading android min voltage is about 3v?
Normal voltage from 3.7v to 3.2V and Charging voltage at a max of 4.4V
I also see some talk of 2.7V figure as a minimum cutoff point, this maybe why it will not give 4.4V to charge as below 2.7v maybe considered a write off?

With some custom roms, but none i know for the Note, you can modify the shutdown voltage, to squeeze out a couple of minutes battery life, though the voltage goes down rapidly after having reached 3,5v.
