GLTools with the HTC 10 on Nougat problems

Hi all,
Been trying to get Half life 2 to run on my HTC 10 (great game from back in the day which would run perfectly on the 10)
The game is from the catalogue allowed only by nvidia devices like the shield, Half life 2 has been ported over.
GL Tools allows certain games to run by spoofing certain parts of your android version afaik.
In the past you should be able to simply install the APK and the data which would normally reside in Android/Data/Obb but this no longer works as it used to.
I've bought the app by logging into my friends shield and buying it (£9.95 ) so now my phone when opening it does actually see that it's licensed but the game continues to fall flat.
My friend who has an S7 on Marshmallow with the same settings has it working perfectly.
Has anyone used this before? GLTools? OR have any insight as to what settings would best suit our phones?
I'm running Viper Rom 5.9.0 which is Nougat, I may try to roll back to see if it works but if anyone knows of a way around that i'd love to know.
Spoke with the dev who's advised me that android version shouldn't matter but i can't see any other difference between our phones besides hardware, I've changed pretty much every setting, the dev also provided me with a script but that didn't help.
Any advice or experience would help.
Thanks
Bump, I am also trying to do the same but I am trying with a stock rooted nougat rom. Will do anything to make this game work on this device. Any advice?

If you'll do anything then rollback to marshmallow..It'll work. Nougat just does not like half life 2. Simply put.

(Discussion) how are your impression of android 8.0 on pixel c?

As you all know Google has rolled out android Oreo to the masses , including the pixel c . I've got the notification on may tablet but too afraid to click install since 7.1.2 working really well for me . My main concern is battery life , being burned with 7.0 before I rather weary of the new software update to 8.0 . I'm using my tablet primary to take notes on lectures so I need a solid battery life.
Can any of you give me an impression of performance and general usability of pixel c with android Oreo installed ? I am using stock pixel c without and root or modifications
Android O works like a charm on my Pixel C. The performance is good, generally no stuttering, lagging etc. Microsoft Word isn't working though, Google Docs saves the day. I use the tablet for notes in lectures too, and I easily get a day and a half of use.
Edit: I'm on stock Oreo, no root, no mods.

It's nice to know . I'm using quid as my primary note taking app . The Oreo impression is generally best across all pixel devices except for people who wanted all of the new feature on their Nexus 5x. . . Anyways thanks for giving your input!
I guess I'll wait a couple of weeks before attempting to update . My exam is coming soon and I cannot accept change in my tablet yet.
P.s this forum is really quiet isn't it ?
Your welcome
I can imagine Android O isn't the best match with Nexus 5x. I had the 5x for a couple of months and all it did was throttle and stutter. My old Nexus 5 is way better on Nougat.
Yes, it's a little too quiet her here, hopefully it picks up.
OT: I tried to find Quid in Play Store, the only app I found was Quidd, a virtual sticker collector app in beta. Can't imagine it works well as a note app. Could you please guide me in the right direction?

I haven't actually used Netflix or Youtube, so I can't help you there. I enrolled in the beta program at dp4 and received an OTA of the public Oreo release about a week ago.
Only been on Oreo for a few days since installing and seems to be ok, no issues.
Doesn't "seem" to be a major update.

What's the issue with Microsoft Word? Is it something that's gonna be fixed soon you think?
Edit: Oreo is up and running, and no issues with Microsoft Word.

I've had both Word and Excel installed before upgrading to Oreo.
both apps work fine for me under Oreo. Would cleaning cache for these apps fix your white screens?

Clearing cache only gives me force close when trying to start the app. Force close is better than a white screen though.
Installed my OTA update to Oreo from Nougat 7.1.2 today. No issues so far but haven't really done alot either and update went smoothly.
I did notice that this Oreo update also shows a Updating Firmware splash screen that I've never noticed in other updates. Did I just not see them or is this new? What was changed in the FW?
I installed the update....
and apart from a oddity, where the update screen seemed to get stuck in a loop looking for further updates (I had to shut the pixel c down, and start it back up, to fix this)..it's been a fantastic update so far, very smooth and far more fluid. Everything seems to be a bit snappier, and it seems to be loading webpages and youtube more efficiently, and quickly..
BUT!!...I wouldn't recommend you update immediately if you, can't afford for anything to go wrong, as i tend to find that something will be broken somewhere, that we're not yet aware of (like Picture in Picture crashing when you try to use it)....
Maybe wait until you've got all your important stuff, out of the way before you update...
Hope this helps?

nah , it´s okay. To be expected really. after all next month pixel c will be 2 years old.
No, afaik project treble will be available only on phones launching with O.
About my experience, the update seems pretty nice so far. The performance is about the same. I never had lag or bad perf on this tablet honestly. The only problem I have had are two random reboots two days ago. The rest is fine.
As with all major revisions of android, it will take some time before all the apps are fully compatible with the Os and use the new APIs.
So I flashed in fastboot and run magisk. There is a weird situation when you reboot to go into recovery it says it is flashing firmware, I not seen that message before.
Magisk works, passes safetynet check.
I saw mention that Word crashes, well that is still true initially, when I open a document, it opens then then closes again, tried it 3 times then it stayed open, something about needing to download fonts? So it works eventually.
Battery status is weird, when plugged into power it is says is it NOT charging, when I pull USB cable out, it says it is charging. Small bug, but what you expect for version 0 of 8.
Chrome closes and reopened a few times, but then settled.
I rolled back from clean Oreo to Pure Nexus 7.1.2.
The main reason why is unbearable lags in Youtube app - when the active video is minimized and you want to browse Youtube it's just completely unusable. I think couple of times it stayed this way even without a background video.
Overall I was not happy with the performance so went back to Nougat and the difference is night/day.

Nvidia Shield Experience 7.1 Coming

The latest NVIDIA Shield TV early access release brings Shield Experience to version 7.1.
Although the update doesn’t bring Android 8.1 Oreo, it does bring 120Hz support and screen recording via NVIDIA Share.
The 7.1 update is in early access at the moment and will thus likely get a wide release in the next month or so.
Rather, Shield Experience 7.1 is still based on Android 8.0 Oreo but it brings (or brings back) a lot of features that should get all Shield TV owners excited. Keep in mind, this update is rolling out to early access users only; the stable build of 7.1 likely will roll out in a month or so.
EDITOR'S PICK
Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service comes to the Shield
The biggest update with Shield Experience 7.1 is the addition of support for 120Hz monitors and televisions. If you have a TV or monitor that is capable of 120Hz refresh rates, your NVIDIA Shield TV will work with it to show exceptionally smooth gameplay.
You’ll now be able to record that smooth gameplay with NVIDIA Share, which is screen recording/screenshot software that lets you share your images and video
Got update today. Works good

Did you do anything special in flashfire? I cannot get it to work on mine.
Screen goes black, and after about 5 mins the shield just reboots itself.
Edit:
Nvm, I just did it the old fashion way with fastboot!

Q beta as a Daily driver?

It's been out for a while now, and for a few days I'm wondering if it is stable enough for daily use.
From my researches i found some different opinions...
Some of them were about better battery life on Q than on pie... Some were about worse battery life... And some about crappy image quality with Q....
Can you guys tell me What problems did you face on Q? What are pros and cons vs pie?
Thanks!

For me even beta 3 was okay.. Switched to custom rom only because missing viper and normal file browsing in root folder.. Overall stability and battery was much more better than any rom I have tried.. And it was pretty smooth
I've been using q as my daily since beta 1. That said it is of course beta so you will run into some bugs. Overall it's a good experience and I'm loving the gesture navigation once getting used to it. Also I huge fan of the dark mode. Go into it keeping in mind if you decide to roll back to pie it'll wipe your data

Not yet for me as I use nova and gestures still don't work properly. Otherwise I'd say I'd be ok using it full time.

I am loving it as well. Installed beta 4 just after release. However, some important apps I use daily are not really working properly. Some crash outright, some crash after some time. I forget though, if I revert back, I know I will have to wipe my phone for it, but will it automatically revert to my backup from Pie?

Yeah a few apps that were fine for me in beta 3 aren't working well it at all for me in beta 4 as well. OneDrive just force closes, Twitter notifications for subscribed tweets closes, and MLB at Bat says it's not supported even if it worked just fine with beta 3.
If you go back to Android Pie you have to factory reset.

Been my daily since beta 3...some issues but good enough for daily
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I prefer not to be a beta tester because I use my phone for business. But the built in call blocking feature that Google took away from all market apps running on Oreo or Pie, makes it worth using on a daily basis. I can put up with a shorter battery life, and plug it in my van for a recharge when I am driving.
In my opinion, it makes for a good daily driver.
Only issue I'm having is that my banking app won't work, but that's expected and in the release notes

no, your backup is now overwritten by a Q backup that Pie won't be able to use. You can use third-party backup apps instead

Actually, if you're referring to Google cloud/drive backup, once you revert to Pie, you can restore from previous backups. You will have to sign into apps like Instagram, etc., but it works. I have done it several times.
The first three were great. 4 has been crashing for me, and about half the time, I have to kill and restart apps in order to start them.

Question OnePlus Launcher

Maybe I didn't search hard enough, but anyone know if it's possible to install the OnePlus launcher on the Pixel 6 Pro? I successfully installed, but it refused to load, even one install that was reported to work on any Android phone. I'm using ProtonAOSP with gapps.
I bought a Pixel 6 Pro out of love for its superior night camera which is fabulous for catching northern lights here in Alaska, but I absolutely love the OxygenOS launcher on my OnePlus 8 Pro. It's a weird request, I know.
All I have to say is,"why?"
Coming from One+ and Samsung..... All users flash roms to come to a Pixel UI and you want a OP launcher on a Pixel? I'm stumped
I'd recommend Nova7 as it's a better fit for phones than OP launcher.
If it's a tinkering matter I totally understand, but, OP on Pixel?
You can also try lawnchair launcher 12. I was missing a few things after moving from 1+ 8 pro to P6 but lawnchair did the trick for me. Basically a pixel launcher with some more customization.

Which features exactly are you looking for?
There are several available launchers on a Pixel, I can't think of any feature set that OP has that is not available, since you can customize about anything, including icons and how animations/gestures work.
As others have said. What's the point?
Anyway, installing the APK will not be sufficient as the OnePlus launcher also relies on a number of native libraries.
You will need figure out exactly which libraries and make them available in /system/lib(64) via a Magisk module.
Too much hassle for what ...
Specifically, I really like this one touch close all apps button. It's a good visual decluttering for me versus memory issue. If I feel overwhelmed by everything I have open, tap the one button and it all feels clean again.

I'll give it a look.
Closing the apps in that way is not recommended and actually worsens battery use. Doesn't do anything for memory use either really as the phone has plenty and manages it well enough. This is why it has been gotten rid of in later versions of Android.

Eh, I charge it enough. It really is more of a psychological visual decluttering for me. I know, it's really best to let Android manage your open apps.
