I unlocked my Nexus 7, though after a TWRP install when selecting recovery mode it stays stuck on the Google logo as if there’s no TWRP; though the command prompt said install was successful.

It may be incorrect sequence of steps, note:
"many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install."
Try this:
Restock
run Android once
flash TWRP
immediately and directly boot TWRP
Will try that!

Please help! I am new to this and am worried I bricked my phone.
I successfully rooted my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus using a toolkit. It was then working fine with 4.2.2. I wanted to install Shiny Rom 4.4.2. I thought I successfully backed up apps and data using Titanium Backup.
I successfully moved the correct zip files to my phone, and realized I needed Clockworkmod recovery. I followed a procedure to get this on my phone by using my computer's command prompt. I successfully booted into Clockworkmod recovery and followed the process of wiping data/factory reset, successfully installed radio and bootloader recommended to install with ShinyROM but got stuck and could not install the ShinyROM itself. I think it is because it requires a later version of Clockworkmod. The one I downloaded using the procedure was 5.5.0.4, but I think I need a later version. I tried following the same procedure using my computer's command prompt and it got stuck at "waiting for device". I cannot get out of Clockworkmod recovery now (even battery pull, etc.). I then found some threads saying I need to restore my old ROM first. (I think) the only ROM on my phone is ShinyROM. I am stuck and stressed out because I do not know of a way of "pushing" the new version of Clockworkmod to my phone.
Can I fix this, or do I need to start shopping?

i think u already wiped data partition at first, that why your Rom installation aborted bcoz recovery cant mount any partition.
still got your old system partition here.
from recovery ~ try adb sideload your shinyRom. can your pc detected bootloader (fastboot)/recovery?

Well, I went ahead and tried this, and still could not install ShinyROM.
I tried to follow a procedure in the link to use ADB sideload.
I downloaded (full) SDK and updates and updated the drivers. When I get to the following steps from the procedure...
-Boot your device in recovery mode (Android logo with a exclamation mark) and connect your device to PC
-Hold down "power" button first, followed quickly by "volume up" button. You should now see the recovery menu
I only boot to CWM and there is no Android with Exclamation mark. Holding down power button only selects whichever option is highlighted within CWM.
Also, it seems within CWM, there is supposed to be an option to sideload a zip file. This option does not exist in my version of CWM.

Thanks. I found another thread that led me to the same conclusion, except I was able to do it with CWM and fastboot the latest version using ADB sideload. I still haven't posted enough to link, but here were the details from user camblue.

If you know how to use ADB you can always fastboot a recovery.img,,,,this thing is almost impossible to truly brick. IN order to get into fastboot just connect to your computer and run adb with these commands
adb reboot bootloader
once in fastboot mode write this
fastboot devices
that will tell you if your device is connected and reading in fastboot mode if it is you will see something like fastboot and some numbers next to it. If nothing you do not" have the fastboot drivers installed.
then to fastboot flash a recovery.img write this
fastboot flash recovery r3-recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.0.4-nexus7-modaco.img (or whatever recovery.img you are using or have in your tools folder of you SDK location).
and in order to get right into CWM if you cant boot write this
fastboot boot r3-recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.0.4-nexus7-modaco.img

So I already had a rooted (and I'm pretty sure unlocked bootlader) version of the stock Asus and wanted to put CM13 nightly on there. Everything was going smooth until I got to the stage where I have to load into TWRP and I got the error screen with the little dead alien and the red symbol.
Now I can't enter normal boot, but entering recovery mode seems to work. I tried the option to side load a package from ADB on that screen but nothing worked (.zip files extracted, but I got an error on the phone).
As you can tell, I'm really new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried looking around, but it seems the more common issue is people not being able to enter recovery mode or something similar.

Looks like your doing it wrong. Being rooted does not necessarily mean that your bootloader is unlocked.
By the looks of it your in recovery mode with the dead robot with the "error" message. That is normal. To reboot back into system you either have to press (I don't remember) power button and volume up or down button. Then you should see some options with reboot to system. Or if that does not work you can hold the power button till it turns off.
Then you get back into Android, download the official bootloader unlock tool from ASUS and install it on your device. NOTE: If you updated to MM then this will not work and this will void your warranty.
Run the tool and press unlock and it should reboot into fastboot where it should begin the unlocking process. I believe it should automatically reboot and you should see that the Asus logo is now black instead of white. If not, repeat the process.
You can now proceed to flash twrp recovery. Boot into fastboot/bootloader mode either with "adb reboot bootloader" or hold a specific set of buttons while off to go directly into fastboot.
On the computer, connect your device and type in "fastboot flash recovery (path to twrp IMG without brackets)"
When done you should be able to reboot into twrp recovery where you can flash the cm13 zip.
Hope this helped.
For those that, like me, could not get driver recognition on the latest Win 10 x64 no matter what you tried. And ,yes, using every tutorial I could find on this and two "other Forums". Odin failed to see my device (still can't) Cydia impactor allows rebooting into fastboot and D/L but doesn't connect in either alt. mode. Yes, drivers all removed and replaced in varying states (usbdeview, etc.).
But ADB/Fastboot works!
Make sure you have your adb/fastboot drivers installed universally (Check this Fabulous Forum)

A warning appears saying to press VOLUME UP button to continue, voiding the warranty or VOLUME DOWN to go back. I try to press VOLUME UP and nothing happens... how did you do it?

Hi there, I have the same issue. No success
I found a way, instead of volume up, use the home button this worked for me.. however after I unlocked the OEM and flashed TWRP the phone didn't want to boot anymore. It was stuck on Elephone logo with warning: "Orange State: The phone has been unlocked and can't be trusted. Your device will boot in 5s", however it didn't boot and stayed like that for almost an hour. Had to flash back the stock firmware to boot. Tried 1 more time the procedure to root but again the same. Maybe I do something wrong?

I read somewhere the is a zip inside the update.zip & is that one that is flash able with twrp.

During the main time I managed to flash the 0218 stock rom.
I still got the orange message but the phone finally boot. Then I just called the twrp recovery img via atb. I did nothing only touch the reboot in the twrp screen and since then "Orange status...." again.
May be the twrp recovery img is not the right one...

I deleted install-recovery.sh from system/bin using TWRP's file manager before first boot, but it still overwrites MIUI recovery.
It's not a huge deal because I guess I can always fastboot flash twrp before flashing any new ROM, but does anyone have a solution? Much appreciated!
You have to boot to twrp right after flashing.
Go to twrp official site, choose your device and follow exactly instruction to the end.
It wouldnt harm your device if you reboot it to twrp twice.
Thanks, I tried but it reverts to stock recovery. After flashing TWRP in fastboot, I either try Fastboot boot twrp.img or disconnect the cable and hold power and vol+.
Either way, it goes into TWRP, and I make it boot back into TWRP several times with no problem.
But as soon as I boot to System, it reverts to stock.

OMG I found it - Google really is a friend. All I had to do was install Magisk before booting to System.
Below are my exact steps, if that helps someone.
Preliminary:
Download Magisk 17.1 zip, place it on a USB flashdrive.
Install latest magiskmanager apk from Play store (or sideload it if not on the store)
1- In Fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img (If all goes well, this boots to TWRP; if prompted for a code, hit cancel)
2- Disconnect the cable.
Reboot to recovery once more (just to make sure, this is probably redundant; hit cancel if prompted for a code)
3- Mount USB-OTG, connect your flashdrive.
Install Magisk.
During the installation, you'll see some red fail lines, but Magisk seems to work around the encryption, just be patient.
4-Reboot System. You're done! Launch MagiskManager. Device is rooted in the process, too. (Verify with a root checker app).
Power Off. Hit Power + volume Up - You should boot to TWRP.

So I was messing around with the twrp custom recovery and (without thinking much of it) wiped everything in the advanced wipe menu :crying: (System, data, EVERYTHING)
I knew I had removed my OS and that I could just use the twrp recovery to install a new rom onto my phone BUT little did I know, when I tried to boot into the custom recovery, it would just loop the screen with the redmi logo
I am still able to boot into fastboot mode, and I have tried to flash the same twrp recovery but with no avail (It still loops the redmi logo screen)
So now I'm here to ask if there is any advice that you could give me to try and fix this problem that I have gotten myself in (I am not worried about deleting any of my personal files. I would just like to get twrp to boot so that I can install another rom)

Hi, thanks for the fast reply.
The stock android I had before I wiped everything was android 9, MIUI 11. I tried againt to flash the recovery through fast boot but (like before) when I try to boot into the recovery (by holding the volume up button as it reboots), the redmi logo keeps appearing and disappearing and doesn't go to the twrp recovery. At the current moment I don't have any OS installed (since it got deleted when I wiped everything)
Any other leads I could try?

I'm not sure how I can flash the stock ROM without the twrp recovery. I had the impression that you needed twrp recovery in order to install ROMs in the first place.
If there is a method to flash a ROM using fastboot, please explain since my unexperienced self has no idea how to do this. :laugh:

MiFlash works through fastboot mode. It's also safer to flash with MiFlash, just make sure you have the correct ROM.

Yes, this is the method I used to flash the twrp recovery.
My problem was that even after installing it (using this method), i would still not be able to boot into the recovery.
However, it is fixed now. I used the Mi Flash tool in order to install the stock rom and then installed twrp after that. :good:

I tried this method and IT WORKED!!
After installing Mi flash I was able to download the stock rom and install it through the program without any errors.
I was then able to finally boot into the OS and install twrp recovery, then install the custom rom! :laugh:
Thanks for this method. I would probably still be stuck on the Redmi logo if it weren't for this
