Question for folks that's been on the oneui 2 beta. Does/did data roaming work? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Guides, News, & Discussion

I remember there was an issue with data roaming during a beta for oneui 1.0 beta last year... but i've not seen any complaints this time. Just wanna be sure if everything is good... otherwise i'll bring a backup phone on my trip this weekend... or flash back to pie. haven't decided yet.
Bummer that it doesn't seem like US will get stable 10 before my trip... but alas.

To add a question to this thread, is there a difference between unlocked versions and carrier versions with data roaming? I'm on T-Mobile and I've heard that data roaming only works with the carrier version, but have not been able to confirm this with any certainty.

ROAMING is just that. Should work regardless of where you are as long as your carrier has deals worked out with the carriers you are trying to roam with. I'm on Google/FI, all I do is ROAM since its a VMNO. I'm on a U1 unlocked, with beta 3 One UI 2.0 and no current issues with connection or roaming.
---------- Post added at 12:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:10 AM ----------
no, there is NO difference between carrier roaming with branded or unbranded versions. Official phone or not. If the DEVICE has the bands you are trying to connect to, (automatically) and your carrier supports the network Operator you are trying to roam on. It will work. The handshake is something like this.
"Hey ORANGE! I'm a T-Mobile Sim card from USA."
" Hey! Wait a sec, let me check something. Yeah You're good. Enjoy my towers." <- Even If it is TMobile Canada, or Mexico, etc.
Then TMobile will send you a ton of texts Welcoming you and saying International data rates apply, texts, talk, etc.

Use Verizon Note 4 on AT&T?

As Verizon is charging $700 compared to the 800+ at&t is charging for an off contract note 4 I was wondering if its possible to use the off contract verizon Note 4 on AT&T. I have a mobile share plan with AT&T with other lines still in contract so I can't easily switch to verizon or I would. Does anyone know?

How would one use a CDMA device on a GSM network??
It was my understanding that all Verizon phones now had a SIM slot for LTE Compatibility? I assumed if the Sim slot was unlocked you'd be able to put an AT&T sim card in and configure carrier settings and get access but wanted to confirm?

Most modern Verizon phones have GSM radios in it, and it's unlocked.
The problem with using Verizon's Note 4 on AT&T is LTE. They don't have the same radio, so you'd be stuck on AT&T's 3G.
This was the conversation I had with an AT&T rep today. She was convinced I could just buy the Note 4 from VZW at $699 and bring it over to AT&T... she didn't mention, nor did she seem to be aware that LTE would not work.
Yes well, it all depends on the ATT LTE Band that's in use in your area. I have a VZW S5 that's on ATT prepaid pulling LTE all day. Band 7 I believe.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
VZW phones generally have radios with some overlapping LTE band coverage with both ATT and TMO. AWS Band 4 I believe is used by all 3 carriers but not in all areas of the US.
Unfortunately VZW mainly uses Band 13 and ATT band 17 although supposedly Samsung devices have this enabled in the Hidden Menus but I have never gotten band 17 on ATT.
My 2 cents
Verizon's website says their model supports bands 4 and 13. The AT&T website says their model supports bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 20, and 29. From what I remember, AT&T's primary LTE bands are 4 and 17 so if Verizon is being completely truthful and it doesn't support any other bands other than 4 and 13, your LTE coverage may be spotty or even completely non existent.
Verizon Note 4 is out now...
Anyone have a report yet?
I can confirm verizon note 4 is working on at&t & tmobile.
I just got my verizon note 4 today and i put my tmobile sim in it and i had to do apn settings and it worked fine the only problem is lte is not working it worked on hspa and my speeds were 6mb down and 2.5 mb up. Which is good for me.
But if u want to use lte u have to enable band 4 which is locked on verizon model. To enanble it u neef to root ur phone with chainfire root (it's the only method to root right now) but it will trip knox sensor and void ur warranty .
And same applies for at&t. No lte but 6mb on hsps looks good to me.

U just need to enter the right apn settings. I'm getting mms just fine on straight talk. My problem is that our phones support air view with pen and finger, and yet they buried the setting so deep we need root to access it and make it stick. I used nova launcher to access the setting but it turns back off once the phone is put to sleep. Stupid! Just let us decide If we want it or not!!!

At least you got it to work finally. :good:
Just ported my work number (verizon) to my personal account (ATT) and they let me keep my note 4. I used the APN settings for the ATT S5 and am getting around 10mbps/down and 2-5mbps/up. I'm not rooted yet but will be working on that to see if I can get LTE functional.
I use Hangouts for SMS so that was already working.

So the Note 4 requires root to enable the service menus in order to enable the various bands available on the phone. Verizon has chosen to restrict this access. You need to modify the build.prop and the efs\carrier\hiddenMenu file. So until a root procedure is available the retail version is stuck with HSPA+, which isn't too bad I guess.
Working on my s5 I have made the changes but I am still figuring out how to exactly turn on the disabled bands. I am also hoping these modifications will apply to the Note 4 once root is available.

You have to modify the APN settings after you put the ATT sim in the VZW phone.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried flashing the phone with ATT's firmware. Perhaps this is a more benign method which, as a plus, would show ATT logos throughout the interface. I'm having a verizon note 4 given to me; I'm considering my options.

AT&T vs. StraightTalk Wireless

Does anyone know which of these two has the most or strongest coverage areas with 4G / 4G LTE in the USA? I'm asking because I'm currently using AT&T and their services cover just about every area I have been to. The 4G is awesome. But StraightTalk gives you 5 GB of high-speed data for just $45.00 /mo. while AT&T only offers 2 GB. Is StraightTalk's services as good as or better than AT&T's?
Straight talk uses 3 different networks for byop. Sprint,at&t, and T-Mobile networks. If youre using an at&t modeled phone on straight talk youre still using at&t network. If you brought a tmobile phone to them it would use t mobiles network. And same thing for sprint phones. But why not go to cricket? Im using my unlocked d851 on cricket which is also at&ts network. But i get 10gb LTE for 60 a month. Im definitely happy with it. I havent gone over my high speed limit yet. Ive been with cricket for 5 months now

I see. It's good to know that 10 GB is good for a whole month. Did you know that StraightTalk also offers 10 GB / mo. for $55.00 /mo.? BTW, I decided to go with StraightTalk AT&T's services! I love AT&T!
No i didnt know that. Well maybe ill switch to them next month. I had a sprint phone i used with them a couple years ago. Do they still have a processing fee on bill payments? Because cricket is 60 dollars even. Ill def go for 55/ month straight talk. I just hope they dont give me a sim that uses t mobile network. Att is so much better in chicago area than tmo

Thanks for the info. Ill be saving 60 dollars a year beginning next month. The reason i asked if youve activated, im wondering does straight talk use a att.net based apn or if they use an aiowireless.net apn like cricket does. No big deal either way i guess. I can testify the aio apn works just fine but i just imagine an apn with "att" in the address to be faster lol.. This is based on nothing

No. I have not begun my service yet. I just ordered a StraightTalk-AT&T Micro-SIM Card Kit off of eBay. It's coming form North Carolina. I live in South Carolina so I'm hoping to have it by Saturday. I'm switching when I get it. I've already used up my 2 GB of High-Speed Data from AT&T GoPhone. 2 GB is no where near enough data for me. I can't wait to switch!

can i flash USCC N5 with AT&T N5 firmware

hey guys/gals i have a USCellular Note 5 which is unlocked and recently switched to AT&T and everything works but MMS and 4G is flakey, usually bouncing between 4G and H and H+ (on the signal)
i dont feel data speeds suffer but speed tests show it is compared to my LG V20, so fear signal reception could be different that an AT&T note 5.
anyways, does anyone know if it is possible to odin flash tan AT&T rom into my USCellular phone and make it run properly on AT&T.
the NOTE 5 is of course unlocked and when looking at the specs is only missing 2 cellular bands and has more bands in 3G than the AT&T variant.
anyone have a clue, i would not like to brick this phone beyond repair because i can still sell it for someone wanting a USCC variant, but am willing to flash it with an AT&T rom if that will fix the MMS issue.
the APN's are correct, but i did install KIK messaging and when setting MMS to manual APN it immediately came up with a uscellular APN which really makes me believe somewhere in the phone its still holding a USCellular APN and not using the AT&T one even though it is set in the Network settings of the phone.
the phone did download the small october security update, but it still isnt sending mms messages.
No, the branding will stop and fail Odin.

Also if the APN is force switching. It means the AT&T APN settings are wrong.
I found it!!
The APN proxy was misspelled.
I don't know if the guy in the store did it or if it pulling from at&t but everything was right but the proxy was .ent instead of .net
I never changed it cuz I always looked at it and said yup that's right
Last night I noticed it and now it works
Just gotta keep an eye on the 4G stuff now

Questions about moving to AT&T

Hey everyone,
I was just gifted a Verizon M9 with s-off. It's currently running Lineage OS and TWRP. I don't have Verizon service myself, and I tried to throw my wife's AT&T nano sim in there (I have a micro sim and don't want to cut it unless I know it's going to work). For a few seconds I got fast H+ network access, before the data signal cut out. I've read online that the Verizon M9 should be GSM sim unlocked out of the box. I tried several APN's, but none of them brought back the data connection.
Am I missing a step? Is this not something that can be done? Is this an issue since she has a real AT&T sim, but it won't be an issue if I cut down my black wireless sim?
Well, my new Black Wireless sim came in and it worked just fine. Now I'm off to see if I can unlock some LTE bands.
Were you able to get AT&T LTE to work on the Verizon version? I was curious for a friend who might grab this phone and switch Straight Talk networks later.
I'm still working on that. I band unlocked the phone and my phone will connect to AT&T LTE for 1-5 minutes, then it loses all signal until I manually switch it to GSM again. I feel like the issue is at Black Wireless, but they don't want to add my IMEI to their database since it's a Verizon phone.
I also have a Verizon HTC One M9 and am using it on Cricket (which is owned and operated by AT&T). I'm able to keep a signal. H+ most of the time. If I manually reset the network, then do a network search then select Cricket, the signal will reset to 4G LTE for a few hours or until I get a call. After the call it gets stuck on H+.
I'm not rooted and s-off....yet.
Great phone though. If I didn't have Cricket I'd just settle for H+ all the time.
Hopefully this thread will pick up and we'll get some help staying locked into LTE
---------- Post added at 07:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:29 PM ----------
I did see a thread around here with a tutorial on how to edit the bands in the phone and even add more bands. But you have to be rooted.
I'm going to try it when I get the spare $25 for the Sunshine app.
From my experience tearing down my VZW M9, I think that the VZW version has a completely different antenna. When I replaced my USB port, I noticed the VZW version only has one antenna connector going to the USB connector, where the GSM versions you see in tear down videos have two.

Cricket canceling 7T on their network?!! As of Feb 2022

I made a call and got a message that my phone would no longer work on their network since they are upgrading things. This phone isn't that old. I wonder if their system doesn't recognize it. The lady said their system was showing it was a 2g phone so I told her it handles 4g. She said on Cricket it's only able to use 3g. Does anyone know if this is true. I don't trust some operator in another country reading off a script. It sounded like they want everyone to buy phones from their website. I can't imagine a relatively new phone not having the right band. Maybe there is a setting I need to tweak or flash onto my phone if I'm only using 3g on Cricket. I'm sure I've seen my antenna say LTE. Or maybe Cricket is screening out non Cricket phones.
Check it's specs.
If it supports the needed 4G bands it may need to be reconfigured. I haven't a clue how to do that.
Maybe Access point names but it may go deeper than that.
I'm going to google and see exactly what specs Cricket will require. I think you're right and maybe something to reconfigure. I can't imagine Cricket shutting off tons of new ish phones just because they aren't bought from Cricket. Ran a speed test now and got 2.77mbps download and 8.49mbps upload. I am showing LTE now which means I'm not on 3g as she was saying now. I bet it's a sales gimmick to scare less savy folks. What mean loose phone signal in Feb hehehe.
Edit: I was on wifi when I got the message so maybe when I phone is on wifi and not using their LTE network it doesn't detect anything which is why they told me I have a 2g phone. When I shut off wifi LTE popped right up so it's probably a glitch in their way of informing us.
Edit2: Spoke to a tech at Cricket and he said my phone currently isn't compatible with them aaahahahhaha dumb. I told him I'm currently using it on LTE just fine no issues. He didn't have anything to say when I asked him since I'm not using 3g then it shouldn't affect me. He just said he wants me to have great service so buy another phone from Cricket. BS

Yes I was able to download that list when I googled. Judging by what it said these are phones that are tested and will work, not so much that other phones won't work. My phone was originally branded for Tmobile so I'm sure they wouldn't have tested it but it would have only had a different OS with Tmobile bloatware which I took off. The cricket people said their LTE isn't changing so I shouldn't have an issue but it will be interesting to find out. They must have just been looking at this list which is why they said my phone currently isn't compatible.
Funny this was asked but no answer given from ATT. I'll keep googling

I read a discussion here from 2019 someone else asked and the different variants are by region as they usually are for the different LTE frequencies. 1905 is North American, 1907 is Tmobile in North America so I would imagine my LTE frequency is still going to be fine. Those that bought Chinese phones etc probably not.
This is weird. The current ad for it on Amazon says it's currently not compatible with ATT and Cricket. I wonder if me flashing another OS for North America or USA I forget is why it works fine? Maybe I'm screwed hehe

I work at a prepaid carrier store (not Cricket) and am having to tell customers the same thing. It's not just about if your phone has the radios necessary, they have to have the IMEI approved in their system and if it's not then you can possibly escalate to someone who can help get it approved but you probably won't get very far. I can't activate my own OnePlus device with my company either, even though it's currently running on our parent network. I have spoken with internal support folks about it multiple times and have gotten nowhere so I gave up.

Believe it. It sucks and it sounds insane but it's really happening. For me? I have to tell everyone with a Samsung Galaxy S5-S10 that they have to buy a new phone to be compatible with our new network changes. And I can tell you here that it's (probably) not the sales rep lying to you to make a commission sale, our tools are indeed forcing us to do that.

I'm just wondering why they are saying my phone currently isn't compatible when it obviously is. It works great. Even streams HD in an instant on Crickets network. Corporations aren't super efficient at checking all things under the sun. They are just checking phones they approve. They told me the same thing that my imei currently doesn't work but it does. Unless they are trying to be like Verizon and only allow specific phones in the future I'm still thinking once they shut off 3g then when someone wants to switch from Tmobile to Cricket with their unlocked working fine non 3g phone they still can or are they saying no they are going to be like Verizon and it has to be a Cricket branded phone. I don't think it's the later. I think they are just saying what will work, but not saying what won't work. Let's find out =( hehe
Read a discussion from 8 months ago. Seems like most are fine, one guy with a 1905 had issues on ATT. One guy did what I did so maybe that's why mine is fine for now. I haven't had issues like dropped calls etc but maybe the real issue I will have if Cricket adds wifi calling and VoLTE is if they use a specific frequency and the 1907 is missing it then I won't be able to use those. If Cricket only uses VoLTE then yes I am screwed in February =/

"I am currently using a 7t that was advertised as factory unlocked on ebay, when it showed up and I turned it on the big bright pink Tmobile boot logo came by. I did some research and found the convert to international/global thread on xda, I got rid of the crap hydrogen OS that came with the "unlocked" Tmobile phone. Using ADB I was able to flash the international firmware Oxygen OS and haven't had any problems with at&t now."
If it's an IMEI issue, flashing with the hd1905 fw probably won't help matters. I have a hd1905 on cricket since 2019, everything but wifi calling works. The same cricket sim in a samdung s9+ yields working wifi calling.
So while the hd1905 and 1907 are essentially the same hardware devices, the serial #/imei may determine what happens come 2022.

Yup, I'm wondering if the hardware or the IMEI will determine things. I didn't even know Cricket had wifi calling. Did Cricket even let you download the wifi calling app but it didn't work or did they not allow you to download it?
Edit: I looked it up. Looks like wifi calling will work on phones that have it built in to their OS settings. I probably won't use it if I end up buying another OnePlus phone. I wonder if there are any phones where wifi calling is working on Cricket that isn't on the list but is in the OS settings.
Wifi calling app? The s9+ was hybrid flashed. Everything but the main OS came from the U firmware (carrier), while the rom came from U1 fw. Result was working carrier features (volte/wifi calling) without the bloat.

The s9+ is probably the same as the s9 as far as the wifi calling since "+" isn't mentioned on their list.
Huh? It's right under the s9.
