Use air triggers as shutter - ASUS ROG Phone II Guides, News, & Discussion

Rog phone 2 has two air triggers on its right side. Though everyone knows about it, there are really cool things we can do with it. I thought about using it in third party apps apart from games.
There is a workaround to make use of air triggers for camera shutter.
Unfortunately this didn't work on default camera app. But it worked flawlessly on Google camera mod. Here are the steps i followed:
1. Install gcam (i hope you know where to find it)
2. Go to armoury crate
3. Click on add game (+ icon)
4. Add gcam to the games list
5. Open gcam and switch the phone to landscape mode
(Click on rotate screen icon on the bottom right corner)
6. You need your phone to be in landscape mode so that air triggers would work
7. Swipe from left and set up right air trigger for shutter (tap) and
left for vertical swipe in order to navigate through (camera, video and nightsight)
8. Enjoy...

Good thinking man

Intuitional Picture Viewer for WM6

Well due to popular demand, I've decided to put this on this general forum. It's designed for the HTC touch but have heard widespread talk about it working on other devices. A lot of people really like it so I figured some people who don't go to the touch-specific forum would like to try it out. It does require a touch screen(that's kinda the idea) and although I designed it on WM6, it should work on WM5 if you have .NET CF 2.0 installed. Here are the instructions, just replace HTC Touch with touch-screen WM6 device
I've been working on picture viewer for the HTC Touch that has a little more of an intuitional feel(kinda like the iphone tho mine has some major differences) You can use the touch screen for everything including changing pictures, panning, and zooming in or out.
Here's how to control it:
To use gesture mode check "Gesture Mode" in options menu, to use double-click mode uncheck "Gesture Mode."
Gesture Mode:
Sweep your thumb to the left to move to the next picture
Sweep your thumb to the right to move to the previous picture
(for sweeping, start with your thumb/finger off the phone, otherwise it'll mistake it for the panning gesture)
Press on the picture and then move to pan
Double-press to change to full screen.
Double-Click Mode:
double press to switch between panning and switching pictures/zooming.
move picture with finger in panning mode
zoom by moving finger up/down in non-panning mode
switch pictures by moving finger left/right in non-panning mode
Reply if you have any questions
(If this helped you and you feel compelled, you can donate here)
Edit 10/9/07 05:59 PM PST:
This update makes the program WAY better. I made it a lot more stable first of all. Also, and most importantly, I made it so you don't have to press on the menu to activate it and then press again to use it or press the center button to go back to the picture. Simply press on the picture and move it to move it, or press on the menu to use it, kinda the way it should be. Enjoy
cool!!!
this is really impressive! very easy to use... i like it alot! only con i got is that.. its hard to read the folders you want to use (where pictures are stored)

Morphgear problem

I know alot of threads has been made but i really cant find anything about this ? Maybe im dumb or whatever, but when i go into global settings, i cant change anything. Whatever i do, the option gets automatically put back to "standard".
Do i have to register to be able to do this ? Is this a glitch ?
PS. i hate my Touch Pro 2 now!
Try pushing the "arrow" Hardware Button right beside your "hang-up" button. That should save your morphgear settings. I had the same problem a while back
It is kind of a glitch, since morphgear was made for Windows Mobile 6.X - the "ok" button wont show up when using WM 6.5.X
I'm afraid that's not the problem I have.
When I tap the new value I want to change to, I don't even get the new value shown. It just pops back into the standard value at once.
Example:
I go into global settings, and wish to change Display - Driver from Auto to GDI. Now when I activate the pulldown, i tap GDI. The pulldown is deactivated and I am suppose to be left with GDI in the value-field, but instead mine says Auto once again.
Any ideas ?

Ah, i see - did you try double tapping your selected option? That did it for me.
If that doesnt work, try opening the dropdown menu (preferably with your keyboard enter button) and use your keyboard arrow keys to select the one you want and press the enter button again to confirm your value.
I hope one of those options works for you.
Arrows and enter enabled me to be able to select my options.
Now only to find out how to make the gameframe show correct on landscape
I am currently experiencing some trouble with the frame being out of my screen. Any ideas on how to make this work on NES games ?
Yes i changed options on screensize, this changes the size of corse but the frame is still off my screen
EDIT:
Actually nevermind... Im not gonna pay for a program i need to costumize myself, when its not even working properly Tnx for your help though!
If you want to fix your Landscape problem, I would really recommend reading through fire_z's post found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565163
For example a part of it here:
It is interesting to note that using the RawFramebuffer as a Driver gives better speed than GDI,(based on my M900)which works effortlessly in Portrait. But making it work in Landscape mode full screen is a little bit tricky.
To use Rawframebuffer in landscape:
B. Rawframebuffer Landscape: (Full Screen)
1. Repeat step 3 (of the above GDI guide)
2. Do step 4 (above) but change set settings to:
Driver: RawFramebuffer
0rientation: East
uncheck- use virtual pad
Check- Enable Sound
CPU Throttle: High
3. Soft Reset Device
4. When device resumes, slide to reveal keyboard (this will automatically sets screen to landscape).BUT BEFORE running MorphGear, with/while keyboard slided out, change Orientation to Portrait.
5. Run MorphGear. Check if the settings icons are vertically situated in the LEFT side and the MorphGear logo horizontal (if this is the case you're in the right track).
6. Repeat step 7 (above)
7. Now the tricky part, in mapping controls remember that the directions are not what they seem. For example if your using keys W-A-S-Z as UP-LEFT-RIGHT-DOWN (IN GDI landscape mode), WHEN using Rawframebuffer, UP=LEFT,RIGHT=UP, LEFT=DOWN, DOWN=RIGHT.
Yup it's a little bit confusing, but it's the only way to get logical direction controls. If you want to use W-A-S-Z, just set it this way:
UP-A
LEFT-W
RIGHT-Z
DOWN-S
And click ok.
8. Locate and Choose ROM.Tap screen to set Full Screen. Enjoy Game. (Refer to Step 9 above)
9. If you want to play another console rom (like gba, snes, genesis etc.) just repeat steps 6 to 8 on this Rawframebuffer guide.
NOTE: One important thing to remember is NEVER activate the device's LANDSCAPE mode WHILE using the RawFramebuffer or you'll end up a jumbled display. If this happens, just totally exit Morphgear via exit button or via task manager, switch to portrait mode while the keyboard is slided out and run MorphGear.
To sum up things, if you want to have Playable Games in Full Screen Landscape.
1. For TurboGrafx-16,NES,MasterGear,Gameboy GB and GB ROMs,use GDI.
2. For SNES,Gameboy Advance and Genesis ROMs,use RawFrameBuffer(TurboGrafx-16,NES,MasterGear,Gameboy GB and GB ROMs works great in RawFramebuffer too, but as I said, it's a little bit tricky.)
To have more speed.
1. Adjust screen size to Fit Window or Smaller.
2. Disable Image Smoothing.
3. For even more speed, play Games in Portrait Mode ( just set Global Settings/Orientation= North, applicable for both GDI and RawFramebuffer.) But why bother portrait, games are still playable in landscape, and our device have a KEYBOARD remember? (reminds me of the upcoming PSP GO)
Enjoy!

Try going through his settings and your games should be running without any problems. I'm finally able to run nearly any snes game mostly full speed, except for Seiken Densetsu 3 and Super Metroid. (And except for sound, since morphgear is just way too old and our processing power sucks when emulating snes sound)
His instructions might seem a little complicated at first, but his settings work great for me. The only thing you have to consider, is that when opening your keyboard, our screen automatically turns to landscape. I assigned my "long press send button" to rotate my screen back to portrait mode when my keyboard is out. That way im able to use the settings (Orientation east) that fire_z posted.
Which brings me to the point where morphgear is too old... im not going to motivate people looking for "alternate ways" to a piece of software...
...but paying for a piece of software that is old as hell and hasnt been updated in years - i would strongly suggest to spend your money in other great WM software out there. I find it outrages, that spicy pixel still offer there products in such a ripoff of a price. (At least the SNES module is for free)
Too bad nobody is coding any new snes emulators on WM - that would be something i would definitely be paying for.

[Trick] Quick open camera

I found this trick in one of the tips and tricks videos on youtube and have not seen it mentioned anywhere else so thought maybe many people didnt know about it, since tips and tricks are posted all the time here and there, and every time there are people who didnt know about it.
This one was one of my favorites of the many thare are..... anyways...
push the home button, or the power button when the screen is off WHILE holding the phone in portrait, then place a finger on the lock screen, NOW rotate the entire phone to landscape and walla, camera
Yep, saw that one on one of those annoying tips that pop up every ½ second when you first start up the phone. There is a bunch of stuff you can do if you go into the motion settings
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Or I could just swipe the camera at the bottom on the lock screen...lol. I couldn't get this to work. Maybe I don't have it activated.

You dont have to activate it in motion settings. You cant turn it off. You can remove the camera shortcut on the lock screen and put something usefull there

You do and you can. There's an option for Quick Camera Start under Lock Screen Settings.
By the way, I find that the camera crashes if it's in video mode when I launch it via quick-start rotate gesture. But if it's in still-photo mode, or if I launch it by swiping the lock-screen camera icon instead of by the rotate gesture, then it starts normally.

Doesn't crash for me when I use the gesture when the camera is in video mode. I love the gesture and removed the camera quick launch icon.

open cam in video mode?

just wondering if there is a way to open the camera in video record mode. i have a phone mounted to my archery bow so i can record my shot while hunting deer. as of now im running jellybean and i have to unlock the phone and then switch from picture mode to video and then push the record button. its too many steps when you have a deer walking toward you. it would be nice to just unlock right into the video recorder. thanks for any help or ideas.
If you use a custom launcher like Nova or Apex, you can create shortcuts to "Activities," which are basically specific components of an app (like camcorder). To take that a step further, if you also use a custom lockscreen like Widget Unlocker, you can add shortcuts to "Activities" right on your lockscreen.
Or disable lockscreen and have camcorder already open, so when you press the power button, it will go straight to camcorder.
Thanks a lot. I didn't know the launchers had those options.
Not a problem. You're welcome.

App: All in one Gestures (without Root)

A large tablet comes with the price of greater hand/arm travel distance when working with the screen. I am by no means complaining any sore elbows here. But it does take some getting used to, especially for those coming from smaller (7" - 8") tablets. Over and over again when my hand moves up and down between the screen and the (home and capacitive) buttons, I can't help but wish I had multi-touch gestures like on an iPad.
If my GNP were rooted, GMD Gestures would have solved my problem. But I am not ready to trip that stupid Knox counter yet. So here we are.
I came across this app called All in one Gesture. It doesn't have multi-touch, but at least some simple 'swiping from edges' functions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures
Let me share with you my experience on working with this app. First, after installation, you need to enable the app under Accessibility in Settings before you can activate/use the gestures. But soon, Android will warn you of disabling a whole bunch of functions as a result, including Multi window. See attachment.
The good news is, some of those functions can be re-enabled to work with All-in-one-Gesture without issues. I tested Multi window, Air view and Direct pen input and they all seemed to be working fine after re-enabling. (I don't use the others, but I suspect some other ones would work too). But you should exercise cautious when doing so. For example, Multi window requires swiping from right edge to activate; and so I should not use the swiping from right edge gesture. Currently, I only use swiping from left for the 'back' function, and swiping from bottom for the 'home' function.
The Back and Home functions are universal in all apps; e.g., they will work in Chrome browser, where I can swipe from left edge to go back to previous page, and swipe from bottom to exit app.
I also changed some settings in All in one Gestures. For example, I made the 'Edge Width' longer under 'Edge Preference', and also made the touch area transparent under 'Transparency and Color'. There are also settings for tweaking the swipe area and sensitivity. I haven't played with them to much, but they may become useful for certain games to avoid accidentally triggering the actions.
