Lmfao...
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

I'm looking forward to seeing what this phone is like. Release is rumored for February so it's not that far away. I swore I wouldn't stray from my Pixel again but I'm feeling the itch coming on...

For those that want a place on XDA to talk about the S20....well, now there's a place to do it :highfive:

I held out on the Note 10+ when I heard about what Samsung has coming. I'm particularly interested in that camera. I hope that it's everything that the leak sites are saying it is. I'll probably wait for the Note 11 though.

It's out in less than a month? That's why.

Still Worth It?

So now after a few months on the market. Is this phone still worth purchasing or is there something significantly better coming along within 3 months that will blow this out of the water. If the products that are coming out are comparable I still see this as a viable option for an upgrade from the Thunderbolt (or am I insane?).
Anyways, hope to get some feedback regarding this to assist. Thanks!
Kind of hard to answer since most new phones are announced at mobile world congress which is next month. As of this second on Verizon there is nothing better. You can argue the rezound is equal with each having pros and cons but nothing is in the pipeline yet.

This Mobile world congress convention that you mentioned. The phones that are going to be announced here will still have release dates that are months away from the actual event right? So best case those 'new' phones will be coming out ~5-6 months from now or are they actually being released to the public at this event?
If the resound is the only comparable phone, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus does indeed still sound way better (for me at least).
it depends on what your looking for, better hardware specs, pure android with great support with updates, or themed android with a lack of updates. Not saying those phones announced at CES are crappy, but if you want a phone that is guaranteed dev support/android updates then i'd recommend the Nexus. Yea they may have other phones that may beat it in hardware specs, but will those phones get the updates and the support that the nexus is and will be getting??? I seriously doubt it, not saying that they won't get support at all, but if u want the best experience of android, i'd recommend the nexus, i had the Epic 4g Touch(Galaxy S II) and i liked it, but i LOVE my nexus, it does everything i need it to, no complaints here, and the battery is great i get right at 2 days on one charge, u should get it, u won't regret it

I am on the verge of pulling the pin and just getting it. Is the amount of development activity similar to what it was with the Nexus One (my last nexus phone)? I remember crack flashing nightly with all the goodies that were available. I took a looksey in the development forum (I will be with Verizon if I get it) and saw a few good things in there.
Are any of you guys currently running a custom ROM and if so, has the custom ROM development still in its infancy or is there some decent work being put out by all the developers (donations to custom developers are a part of the cost of the phone in my book )?

Well the difference between stock 4.0.1 and AOKP+Franco was just ridiculous.

The Galaxy S III will probably blow the Nexus away, but who knows how long until it's released after it's announced at MWC. I don't really know the timeframes for that sort of thing.

If I was going to buy a phone today I would still get the Galaxy Nexus. 6 Months to a year from now will of course be a different story. If you live in the United States we always seem to wait forever for the best stuff. EU seems to be ahead of us when it comes to the latest and greatest phones.
Good Luck!

Sure, for about 9 months. Then the GN gets Jellybean, or Jello, or whatever. Meanwhile the GS3 gets a "Value Pack" which is subsequently pulled before it's even done because Samsung wants to sell the GS4 to you. Vote with your wallet, and vote for hardware which will get 2 years of support. Even if you flash, having up-to-date drivers makes it a lot easier to build custom ROM's.

Since you aren't living in the United States. MWC will announce Galaxy S3 and the U.S. will get it like 8 months later because each carrier wants something to "woo" their customers with exclusive features and all these small little variants of the Galaxy S3.
By the time that all comes out, it'll be launched with a old OS and Nexus 4 will be announced.
I stay committed to only Nexus devices simply because they will last longer. Especially with a great development community.
Sometimes, the community makes the phone.

[Q] Galaxy S3 vs. Nexus 4

With black friday coming up, it's inevitably that the GS3 will be on sale. My question is, with the Nexus 4 coming out, is the GS3 still worth my upgrade? I don't know what I want to do right now, the Nexus doesn't have LTE and living in the SF Bay Area, I actually have access to LTE. But, the Nexus is quad core, and has updates as it comes out. Another question I have has to do with custom roms, specifically CM10. How stable are these releases when it comes to all the features such as camera, etc? And how's battery life? Lastly, does anyone know how the auto updater works? Is it basically like regular OTA's from any other company? Or would I have to reflash every time and update comes out?
Anyone else also stuck in the same predicament, feel free to use this thread to discuss pros and cons of each phone.
We already have a few nexus 4 or gs3 threads in here... The concensus is get the SGSIII. Cm10 is as good as the nexus variant. OTA Updater works if the dev is using it. Just Google it to see how it works.. Pretty simple.

Sorry about that, I didn't see them, but I'll be sure to search harder next time. Thanks for the information though
The s3 is my first Android device but I absolutely love this thing. There is great dev support around here so we're never behind as far as OS updates go. Personally the quad core benefits would be minimal for me in day to day use. And, the inclusion of LTE on the s3 makes it a significant plus in my book.
Sams will be selling the S3 for 99 cents on black friday with 2 year contract
Just get the S3 for now and try it. If you don't like it ENOUGH, return it before the grace period is up. No one here can tell you what you will like/dislike about the phone. That's up to you

Android L in question?

According to this source, LG has not released any good info on if or when we will see the update, unlike many other manufacturers have stated.
http://m.techradar.com/news/phone-a...l-5-0-release-date-when-can-i-get-it--1257804
Yeah I saw that as well this was my first LG may be my last if this is true
Who cares until its a week plus since the other manufacturers release L? The other guys may have a approximate date but that means nothing (the past proves this statement). For all we know lg will be the first non nexus device to get it pushed out.
Good news? http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/lg-g3-android-lollipop-update-may-land-by-end-of-2014-24-10-2014/
Even once it's released. How many will actually update before a root method is out there for it. lol
Do you think T-Mobile might lock the device down when it releases this update? If they don't, does that make it easier to root? I am just one of those impatient always want the new shiny thing guys
i see a nexus 6 in my future. i am going to wait for the officail lollipop release for the nexus 4 (my back up phone) then install that, sell the G3 and put the money toward my nexus 6..... i tried but i just cant get used to the skins, and i miss cynaogenmod with a working camera.

Man I'm in the same boat. Using n5 and debating selling the g3. Good hardware laggy software. I'd keep it and use aosp if I knew it wasn't still a month or two away from working camera and BT. AND I DON'T KNOW THAT lol just missed aosp.
I dont understand why people say the g3 is laggy. There's been post after post on how to get rid of any lag. Turn ART on. Reduce the scale of the animations. Blah blah blah. Read the forums. The phone might not be fast out of the box, but there's simple ways to make it faster. These devs will get the Roms done as long as everyone would search their forums instead of asking the same questions over and over again. Everyone is jumping ship because they don't have the ROM they want. Just be a little more patient. If you wanted a phone that's more on the cutting edge you should have bought or stayed with you nexus phone.
Really tho, with LGs last update, all that lag is literally gone.
Looks like we are supposed to get android lollipop by the end of the year! That's less than 2 months from the release! http://m.gsmarena.com/newscomm-10031.php
Confirmed.
http://www.androidguys.com/2014/10/27/good-news-lg-g3-g2-owners-will-get-android-5-0/
Yay! That is great news! It would be awesome if we got it before most of the other phone manufacturers. Thanks for the update.
This is just another rumor. "An lg rep said we should get it before the end of the year. "
That does not sound definite but at least possible, maybe probable.

I should not have used the word "rumor" but I'm just a bit hesitant to believe anything when the word "probably" is used.

So would this be for the international version? It would then go to the carriers after that right? From past experiences, T-Mobile has been slower than other carriers about updates
http://androidcommunity.com/lg-confirms-android-lollipop-coming-to-g3-and-g2-as-well-20141028/
I will believe it when i see it. This may be my last LG though if they dont get their update game in check. They are officially the WORST when it comes to updates IMO

I agree. I really love the g3 but am really wanting to install a fresh rom like cloudy but am not going to bother if we are getting this update. I can't wait for this version and for someone to do a nice clean no bloat lollipop rom!
It is the waiting that makes me miss the n4 I had for almost 2 years.
At that point I seriously think our lgs will be the very best.

How trustworthy is this?

http://m.androidcentral.com/samsung...e-7-production-after-new-battery-fire-reports
11th Nov is when Samsung said they're gonna halt production. However, on the 10th, Android Central said they were told that "We are temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters."
How credible is this? Will the Note7 return in a few months time? Is the halt a PR stunt to keep lawsuits away?
Discuss.
It is dead. Discussed in all legitimate media and by Samsung for a few days now. Time to move on.

Note 7 is gg dude. After many resignation and an official golabal recall and announcement that the product is cancelled, there want be any Note 7. Even if they know 100% that they can fix it, they won't risk it anymore.
I would only trust news updates directly on the samsung.com site.

Take everything with a grain of salt. Mobile tech news when it comes to stuff like this is based on speculation from past trends. Two things to keep in mind, they will recycle the same stories every year because really it's about page visits and adrev. Not providing useful info. If anything they will be happy to come back and update because it means another visit.
The other part of that is that the software won't hit every region at the same time. So maybe someone gets it in December but then another region doesn't see it until Jan. Example being the bug in the beta that was locking people put of their devices. That delayed builds dropping in other regions until that was fixed.
I'm thinking more like January sometime maybe early February but again that is pure speculation. I believe it was January last year when Pie started rolling out to the flagships. I had the S9+ at the time.
I HIGHLY doubt the carriers will roll out this year. I would expect late Feb/Early Mar for US carriers. The betas haven't even hit them as of yet

The beta probably won't hit the carriers if the note 9 is any indication.
Considering the s10 beta came out Oct 14th and it's still on beta til now then I would doubt note 10 will be out of beta by the end of the year. Note 10 beta started Nov 13th for the US unlocked.

not really entirely different bugs on our beta, January earliest

Stable final build should be ready-ish, if they release in January it's for the Christmas holidays or some unforseen bug
