Flickering issue - please check this video - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I just saw a flickering issue in this review video. Please go to 1 min 43 sec :
&t=1m43s
Does anyone have this issue? Even after enabling DC dimming (I don't know if 7T has that option). I don't own any 7T phone as of now, but maybe very soon. So I want to know if anything like this exist in 7T.

I'm using one for two months but didn't noticed any kind of flickering issue on my unite.

exposure / autofocus flickering

Very happy with the HTC 10, certainly with audio quality when recording live music.
Anyhow: I have a problem with recording video in dim light situations: the video (whole screen) flickers now and then.
In good light situations (outside daylight) the issue seems not to be there.
The flickering is already visible in the live preview during recording (but even worse: also in the final recording)
Note that when you switch to "photo mode", the flickering is not visible in the live preview.
I think the cause can be that de Auto exposure is switching too fast, or is interfering with something.
For a very short example clip see: (here you see the flickering is also visible in the final recording)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2brDkD4Zjn8
This may look like an "artificial situation", but here also a real life situation (with nice live music )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujDZtrS0NXc
(flickering: second 1-3, second 15-18, second 38-41)
Firmware HTC 10:
1.95 / 1.95.401.3
Camera Version:
8.10.763406
Question is:
- Are any users experiencing this issue?
- Do you think this is a hardware issue? Or software?
- BTW: photo's look perfect, so I hope it is an issue that can be fixed.
- In daylight the flicker issue also seems not to be there
Tried so far:
- Deleted camera data / camera cache
- Cleaned the camera lens / autofocus lens
- Tried other camera apps (same issue), so if it's not a hardware issue, the issue is not in the camera app, but probably in the firmware.
Any ideas?
Update:
Maybe it can be related to 50 / 60 Hz interference ?
Also see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/camera-flickering-video-recording-t3476842
Note: on my Mi5 I don't have this issue
BTW:
See this clip: Using 30fps video can create flickering artefacts in artificial light in PAL regions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxBB8HmJB6A
Currently the HTC 10 indeed records in 30 fps (actually 29.97), so maybe that is the cause?
If this is the case, then this issue probably only affects users in Europe ?
-> Update: see comment below: flickering is can also be reproduced without electronic lights
- Update: can also reproduce the flickering without electronic lights, so the 50/60 Hz looks like a different issue.
- The flickering seems to happpen in low light situation, with backlight (from a window by example), where +/- 50% of the frame is in low-light and the other 50% has backlight
I get serious flickering both with photo and video if there is ANY light interference in low light situations.
Example being aiming camera sideways on our couch (so 90 degrees away from TV on far wall), low light as evening, the TV is enough to send my phone in to overload, its more or less impossible to get a photo or video due exposure and who knows what changing what seems like hundreds of times a second, drives me nuts I have given up trying to take shots in such situations.
Can put in pro mode, then the colours jump all over the place from that interfering light.
edit: just to add to this, the TV of course is changing colours / light constantly so I believe that is what makes my phone have a meltdown. If say the TV light is static the camera will stay static I believe with little to no issue.

Did you try if the problem is also there in other camera apps?
Try by example open camera.
In my situation the flickering is not gone, however, i did see that the "banding issue" is less in open camera, unfortunately it doesn't help against the flickering I experience.
BTW: what firmware are you on?
I have not tried another app, no
Can try that tonight though (8.21am in the morning now)

I also have made a topic with this issue. I've tried with Camera FV-5 which has the interference option to set 50/60 Hz and it makes no difference. With the TV i haven't any trouble making video/photo. No bands passing by.
The conditions are: environment with low illumination (the lower light the higher visible effect) and any source of electric light.

What is your firmware version ?
Still not clear to me if this is an software issue, or that we maybe have a device with a hardware issue.
This beacuse I don't see a lot of reports about this issue. If this would affect all users, I would expect more reports.
I have the same issues, combined with some dropped frames AND a weird panning effect (have a look at the HTC 10 Camera Thread).
You can check my videos here , here and here.
But, if you put the slider for the exposure all the way down, or lock AF/AE to a bright source, the flickering disappears, no matter if you pan from a bright to a dark area or not.

Neither to me if it's hardware or software. I have the 1.92.709.1 firmware of the 10h unlocked version.
Due to the variable conditions, i tend to think that is fixable via software update, but well, i don't know...
Hi, I've the Taiwanese version of HTC 10 and I can confirm this issue. It should be noted that D4v3 is right. If you lock AF/AE the flickering effect dissappear. Please long press over a light source until AF/AE block message appears. You'll see the problem is gone.
I guess the problem is firmware related because if it's a hardware issue why can we fix this blocking the AF/AE? I think it's related with how the firmware manages changes of lights.

I agree this looks like it could be fixed with software, but the fact that so few users report this issue, makes me think it is not affecting all users.
If it would affect all users I would expect a LOT of reports, since in fact recording in dim results in very poor quality.
@ Jadraker is saw your threat about a new update: 1.96.709.5 -> Does this update fix the issue?
It could be too that not all users uses the camera to record video in such low light circumstances. For example, I noted this issue when I read your post. It's probably that without reading the post I would never realized that flickering.
About the update I'll test the phone at night and I'll publish the result accordingly.

Unfortunately the flickering issue wasn't fixed with the update I received.

The question is if HTC is even aware of that. Don't know how to point this out to them, since it's really annoying and not just happening in low lit areas but also during daylight
It seems HTC 10 is not the only device with flickering issues while recording video. Please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/samsung-s7-camera-flickering-t3337032
I don't know if it is the same problem but at least it's very similar, isn't it?

I could not find a lot examples on youtibe of the S7, but based on the text I would indeed think it is similar.
I also own a Xiaomi Mi5, and compared it with the HTC 10 in the exaxt same situation, the mi5 doesn't flicker at all, whilte the HTC 10 flickers.
It looks like the Mi5 is change the exposure more gradually.
I think there are 2 issues with the HTC10 camera:
1. Flickering caused by (eletronic) light in dim situation (scenario: +/-50% of surface dim +/- 50% of surface bright)
2. Issues when panning the camera
I find it still difficult to define an exact reproduction path.
But part of the problem also seems to be white / shiny surfaces, see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PZQYZvJ8lI

ZD551KL Screen Issues

Hello!
My sister is having a weird issue with her Zenfone Selfie. It has been happening for last 3 months but now it has gone out of control. The screen is randomly clicking in the center of the screen horizontally. It is happening every 1 - 5 minutes now. I wish that I could attach youtube video but xda wont allow me to. Hope that you guys can work something out. Thanks a lot!
I had the same problem with my zenfone 2, random clicks at random times at random places on screen.
The only solution was to replace the screen .
There is a good guide for it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/how-to-guide-zenfone-2-screen-t3212641
Thats the interesting part. She had the same problem with her old screen.

Touch Latency

I recently bought the OP7T. Everything works fine to me but while playing fps games like codm and pubgm
I can notice touch latency lag
Is this common in all 7T's or I am the only one facing it
I checed the OP community too there were also some people with same issue but still dont know if its only in some devices or in every 7T
My phone is in RMA period so if its my device issue i can replace it with new
Need help
Can you describe in more detail what the problem is? If possible, record a video please.
Facing the same issues after the recent update like if using the back gesture it sometimes lag on that screen also chrome has freezing issues while gaming also sometimes force stop after being having 8GB of RAM.

Question Pixel 6 pro screen glitch

Hi, anyone has this issue with pixel 6 pro. It only happens on video from YouTube and very intermittent. Does not happen to the same video. Have not seen it in full screen or on other apps. Very strange bug or is it hardware issue in which case I should get a replacement

I'd suggest to use safemode and see if it still pops up then, in that case I'd contact Google. Of course you could always try a factory reset, but that's a heckload of trouble and wasted hours...

The hard part is that it happens only once a day or so that I struggle to capture it. So I'd probably have to run on safe mode for a long while, I'll see if I can get Google to replace. Cheers
I've never had that, I'd RMA that if I were you!

I definitely had that happen last week when I was watching Youtube! This was after a factory reset too so I wasn't sure what was happening. Same exact thing, lines flashed across the screen just like yours. I have not seen it happen since or perhaps I haven't been watching enough videos on the phone since.
Have you contacted support, and what did they say? I'm kind of scared to contact them with all the outsourcing now and other stories I've been seeing about them not being as helpful as they used to be.

I'm not sure but am wondering the same thing. I was not able to get a hold of Google support but will try after the new year. If the OP can see it happening randomly I bet it is happening randomly for us too but we haven't caught it again. It looks like those old CRT TV's. I unfortunately was not able to get screen recorder open in time to capture when it was happening.

There is no need to record your screen. you can send google the op recording
I hope google will fix this phone.. I guess that is what you get for being a Tensor early adopter.
I just had this happen too for the first time, happened to quickly to get any recording of it. Also on YouTube as I was adding a video to my watch later. Are you using Vanced by any chance? Maybe it's just the software glitch with that?! Hope there's no hardware fault going on here...

I am using the regular Youtube app since I pay for premium. I don't think its related to any app as the OP said it also happened on other videos.
Also have this happen to me somewhat often (once or twice a day), but it's only ever in the youtube app. I'm using the YouTube vanced app and It's never happened in any other app.

Interesting.....let's hope a fix is on it's way at some point...
Have you guys noticed a graphical glitch in Google photos? When in landscape and the video is paused and you scroll up from the bottom of the screen for your settings, a glitch appears!
It was first mentioned in Reddit.
I've had the same thing, but it appears at the bottom of the screen (it's happened a few times, maybe 5 or 6) - and for mine it was about an inch high. It was really odd - never seen a glitch like that before. usually you can tell if it's the display or software but this was very similar to op's - and it stayed for like 10 seconds. using Brave Browser, not watching a video (pixel 6 pro on december build)
YES YES YES! Thank you for the post, OP!
This wasn't an issue till about five days ago and it only occurs in the YouTube application! It's difficult to reproduce, but usually having a video running, opening the comments section then successively minimizing and maximizing the video (in Portrait mode) can trigger this error.
I suspect it has something to do with a change in refresh rate, since this particular change causes just that.
It's not annoying to the point I have considered turning the phone back, but it's mildly concerning especially since the first time it occurs, you're unsure whether it's a hardware or software issue.
Same here with YouTube Vanced in the exact same Spot, never seen in another app
Try newpipe instead. Hint: no ads

Question Poco3-Sceeen flicker- After Pixel rom

I changed my poco f3 to pixel experience, everything working fine but I now after 3 days face some little flickers in screen screen (screen blinks) mostly when I open the apps. Then after few time it stops.
Is anyone else facing this issue, or any solution?

if you have minimum refresh rate and 60 and maximum at 120 then that;s the culprit. Keep both at a120 and no more issues
