Upgrade/downgrade s10+ to Q to Pie or Pie to Q WITHOUT losing data both rooted unroot - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi guys.
GUIDE FOR INTERNATIONAL S10, S10+, S10e with unlocked boot loader!
I been seeing some post/questions that is it possible to downgrade from android 10 to android 9 and vice versa WITHOUT losing data or apps. There were quite some posts so instead of answering each n every post i see i thought to post a simple guide and confirmation.
Answer to question.....
The answer is YES can upgrade and downgrade WITHOUT losing data or apps everything works perfectly like never touched at all.
Guide...
Confirmed tested by me several time believe me more than 7 times i upgraded and downgraded.
The guide to do so is simple every time use HOME_CSC either to upgrade or after upgrading to downgrade you won't lose anything never use CSC i recommend to delete it just to be sure. You must every time use HOME_CSC.
Guess what one more very interesting thing.
If you are rooted(magisk) if you flash pure stock firmware and recovery too you wont lose data if use HOME_CSC and if after flashing stock use patched ap or patched twrp(recovery) it will get rooted again without losing data if used HOME_CSC.
Last thing.
If get stuck on samsung logo during boot with magisk then just go to recovery and use file manager browse to /data/adb/ delete magisk module riru edxposed if installed other wise it will boot fine if not installed.
I will help further if needed.
Regards.

If you have AT&T firmware (like I do) then the home csc file is very hard to get your hands on.

I have international s10+ SM-G975FD.

For US carrier you can follow this thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/g975u-g975u1-firmware-links-t3905897
This is is providing whole firmware with HOME_CSC. You can get/request firmware from him.

How can I do that? I upgraded to 10 but literally I hate it. I wanna downgrade to 9. I have no idea what you talking about home csc...

To flash firmware either to downgrade or upgrade you must download firmware for your phone and odin windows pc software.
When you download samsung firmware according to you phone model. It is a zip file that zip file when extracted have 5 files in it. You then open odin select files according to odin slot mentions i.e. for ap select ap for bl select file bl for cp select cp for CSC select HOME_CSC all files are extract from downloaded firmware. Put phone into download mode and connect and start flash.
Below is an example of extracted files from firmware archive.

Quick question. Does one have to eliminate the .md5 extension in the filename before patching? I had to do this to patch the AP file for rooting. It worked for me but I just want to make sure it will not be a problem if I do the same for the other files if I have to install TWRP. Thank you.

It wont be a problem if downloaded from trusted source and properly.
Md5 are needed by odin but if md5 extension is removed it is also fine.

If i wanted to upgrade from android 9 to android 10 on a rooted(magisk) s10 would i first need to relock my bootloader?

No.
You just have to use patched firmware and have patched recovery in it.
Or
Download latest firmware and your favourite recovery patch them edit firmware and put patched recovery in it.
Now use odin.
Hope you know process in detail about patching and odining.

I don't recommend downgrade if you upgrade bootloader to Android 10. Downgrading bootloader to previous version is not possible.
I tested downgrade from stock Android 10 to Pie and it doesn't work.

Q15) Can I downgrade to an older build?
Answer: It depends on your current build. Sometimes you can downgrade, sometimes you can not. Read detailed answer to check.
Detailed answer:
You have to see the bootloader version of your current build. Samsung tends to upgrade bootloader versions regularly so downgrading is not always possible.
For example if your current build is G975FXXU3ASG8, and you want to downgrade to G975FXXU2ASF3, it will not be possible.
Moving from 'XXU3' to 'XXU2' is not possible since XXU2 is an older bootloader version, and because of Samsung's downgrade protection, it will not allow the older version to be flashed.
When attempting to flash, Odin will show 'FAIL' in the flash window, and the bootloader screen on your device will display this error:
SW REV CHECK FAIL(BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: 3, BINARY: 2
This is showing that the device is currently on a v3 build, and the build being flashed is v2, so it will reject the file and abort the flash immediately.
If however you want to downgrade from G975FXXU3ASG8 to G975FXXU3ASG2, you are free to do so, since both builds are labeled 'XXU3' and are on the same bootloader version (i.e: v3).
Note: Some builds will be labeled 'XXS', and the same reasoning applies to those builds as well. If the bootloader version is different, you can not downgrade.

I flashed just the System img on my T-Mobile N900T just to see whats changed. Wifi, NFC, Bluetooth working without needing any patches. VoLTE, Wifi Calling, Download Booster options not there and not working but that's expected since it's not a T-Mobile firmware. The biggest change i noticed so far is that Samsung set the Sound mode back to how it was on Kitkat. You just have Sound, Silent and Mute. It doesn't show any of that Priority or Interruptions stuff anymore which is good since i had a issue with my alarm working with the stock T-Mobile firmware. So i had it on Mute last night and my alarm worked this morning just like it used to on Kitkat. So i'll keep it for now

The download link is taking forever for me. Personally I just want to update the baseband and get back to CM12. Can someone extract the baseband file from the zip? If not I'll just wait for the download to finish on my end (9 hours!!!, frigging RapidGator!)

Only if you have an N900W8 - NOT an N900T as I see in your signature. This baseband and bootloader is made for Canadian Note 3 phones only. Sorry, I don't have the N900T baseband/bootloader on hand.
Mega link for N900W8VLU2DOC4_N900W8OYADOC4_BWA (Bell)
Pure stock, require odin to flash.
Why is this in the T-Mobile subforum? Does it work on the T-Mobile Note 3?

It's because XDA doesn't have a Canadian variant subforum for us. T-Mobile's /system works on the Canadian variant and vice-versa, but not the baseband or bootloader. That makes this a good subforum for N900W8 because their custom ROMs work on our phone. OP should probably change title to include [N900W8 ONLY].
Hi jcadduono,
I have the N900W8VLU2DOC4_N900W8OYADOC4_RWC.zip (around 1.4 GB file), when extracted: 2 files;
N900W8VLU2DOC4_N900W8OYADOC4_N900W8VLU2DOC4_HOME.tar.md5 & SS_DL.dll
I'm on stock N900W8 4.4.2 NB7, rooted, twrp.
Wasn't sure if using mobile odin and the zip file, would install ROM, MODEM & BL.
Sorry for the noob question, but in addition to the baseband file, will I need any other tar.md5 file to get my rom to DOC4, without the LP (DOC4) Bootloader?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Ok, the file you have there ending in _HOME.tar.md5 contains the full firmware upgrade including bootloader (mbn files), baseband (modem), ROM (system, kernel, and recovery), and CSC (written to cache for recovery to apply to system and give you proper carrier apps and access point names for data/phone operation). If you want everything in one go, including the bootloader upgrade, you may want to backup everything from your phone's internal storage first. I'm not sure you would want to use mobile Odin for an entire firmware upgrade operation, and you'd especially want to have an actual desktop Odin available in case anything goes wrong to recover. (it's also not recommended by Chainfire to use on LP yet)
Odin 3.09 for Windows
New: Cold boot your phone into Odin by removing your battery and USB cable, then waiting 5 seconds, reinsert your battery and do VolDown + Home + Power to boot directly into Odin from OFF. Once Odin is started, you can insert your USB cable. Some people have had issues where bootloader and/or modem wouldn't upgrade without a cold boot.
This *should* be sufficient to upgrade fully to DOC4:
{

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
then press Start. It would likely upgrade the bootloader even without the "Phone Bootloader Update" box checked
Once it's finished, it will reboot your phone and start installing the CSC. I would recommend going back into recovery after that completes by using VolUp+Home+Power buttons, then using wipe data/factory reset. I don't think it's entirely necessary, but it should save you from any issues caused by previous settings on KK firmware.
Once you boot up, go through the wizard until you reach your home screen. Open up the dialer and call *#1234# - this will open up a version info dialog, telling you which version your ROM (AP), baseband (CP), and carrier data (CSC) are. Make sure they're all ending in DOC4! If they aren't, get back to me. If you want to check your bootloader version as well, get Phone INFO Samsung from Google Play and go to the firmware tab in it. I don't know how to check it from dialer. I am fairly sure the DOC4 bootloader can be downgraded (it's a Canadian tradition) although it WILL trip Knox on downgrade (do any carriers here actually care?) so I wouldn't be afraid to use it.
IF you want to upgrade and be sure that the bootloader is not included in the upgrade, you will need the tools to create Odin flashable firmware files.
DISCLAIMER: I have no clue if LP will run on KK bootloader, you would have to confirm!
img2tar.7z
Extract that and you will find the folder img2tar, inside of it are a bunch of folders that you can fill up with files extracted from the _HOME.tar.md5 (using 7-zip). I've placed empty files in ap, bl, csc, and cp folders to tell you which file goes where. All you have to do after placing them is run the .bat files to generate the tar.md5's.
If you wish to forgo the bootloader, don't use make-bl.bat.
When using Odin with these generated tar.md5's, this is how you will fill it out before pressing Start:
I still recommend doing a factory reset via STOCK recovery with both methods.
Once you've confirmed everything seems ok, you can install TWRP easily from Odin using only the AP box with this TWRP recovery flashable tar.
Rooting can easily be done by putting recovery flashable zip latest SuperSU on your internal storage or sdcard, then flashing that from TWRP.
Issues I've run into while firmware upgrading:
Modem doesn't upgrade - reflash CP file from last step only. If that doesn't work, reflash both CP and BL (modem might require new bootloader).
Modem & bootloader don't upgrade - COLD BOOT: remove all power from phone (unplug, remove battery) then reinsert battery and do volDown+Home+Power to get into Odin, then insert USB cable.
Infinite length loading screen, never boots - data partition is blank or incompatible with ROM, boot into STOCK recovery and wipe data/factory reset to fix. (if you used NAND Erase All in Odin this will happen)
T-mobile boot logo - CSC flash failed (you have no carrier data), reinstall stock recovery and carrier data by reflashing AP and CSC through Odin.
Phone doesn't show up in Odin COMs - No Samsung drivers installed - download them here.
EMERGENCY RE-PARTITION FILE - DO NOT USE THIS unless you are somehow bricked but still able to access Odin through VolDown+Home+Power. Use in Odin with _HOME.tar.md5 in AP slot, Re-Partition, PIT file in slot.
Wow... Thanks for the awesome detailed instructions! :good:
Will let you know how everything works out.
Thanks again.
Great guide thank you!
I've tried everything, doing reset in stock recovery, flashing samsmobile file, BL separately, CP separately and both together, nothing works, the bootloader and modem don't stick. Any suggestions?

They are not carrier specific, they are for N900W8 VL model phone (not T-Mobile or Mexican).
These are sold by Bell, Rogers, MTA, Tbaytel, Telus, etc.
Chances are if you got your Note 3 in Canada and not from T-Mobile then these are for you.
Same here - BL and CP just not sticking when flashed independently of the whole firmware. Thoughts?

Using the info from the bottom of this OP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/odin-flashable-lollipop-bootloader-t3058101
I followed iketil's directions to flash only the bootloader and modem:
1. Completely turn of your phone, usb cable must me disconnected.
2. After the phone is turned off, remove the battery for 5 seconds
3. Put the battery back in and boot directly in to download mode (vol down + home + power) then press vol up 1 time to enter download mode.
4. Open ODIN on your PC and put the BL and CP files in their respective sections (Odin v3.09)
5. Now connect your phone to the pc via USB
6. Untick auto-reboot in ODIN before you flash.
7. When the flash is finished in ODIN force a new direct reboot in to download mode (vol down + home + power), you'll also have to restart ODIN.
8. Then tick back the auto-reboot tab, flash only the CP file one more time and let the phone autoreboot.
This worked. My modem and bootloader stick and were updated to OC4. LTE signal strength seems to be better too!

Hey
I'm having troubles with dropped calls and disconnects from Rogers network. currently I installed temeseks LP 5.1.1 custom ROM. This was a clean install and I also upgraded my baseband to Rogers doc4. Everything works except the call quality. Could it be because my bootloader is NA7? Should I upgrade to doc4 bootloader as well?

These are for the H815 variant only. Files are from software version 20D (Android 6.0 Marshmallow)... more specifically from the 20D Poland carrier-free version. Included below: TWRP-flashable stock rom, boot, modem and bootloader zips. KDZ and individual images are also included.
20D NOTES...
1. Battery improvements
2. Google Jan 2016 Security Patch
*There is NO anti-rollback qfuse used in this update*
Requirements:
You must have TWRP 2.8.7+ installed to use these zip files. Thanks to Dees_Troy as always for that. And, of course, you must have your bootloader unlocked for TWRP to work. Currently only H815 EU and (some) SEA variants have official unlock through LG's unlock page HERE. Please do not ask if "model x" is supported... did you unlock via LG's official unlock tool? Yes? then you can use the zip. No?.. then you should skip the zips and just flash the KDZ instead.
If you have a locked bootloader and want to upgrade... just use LGUP and flash the KDZ. Don't risk it with FlashFire.
Install Directions:
These directions should be used by everyone who wants a rooted 20D system.
Don't want root? Then it's probably easiest to just flash the stock KDZ using LGUP HERE... or just skip the SuperSu steps.
1. Download LG-H81520D-Flashable.COMPLETE.zip listed under the download section and place it on internal or external sdcard.
2. Also download the latest SuperSu zip (2.67+) from HERE [Thanks to Chainfire for his auto-patching boot.img version!]
3. (re)Boot into TWRP if not there already.
4.* Backup current partitions: boot, system, data, efs (backing up anything is optional but suggested)
5.* Up to you if you want to wipe data (TWRP > Wipe > Swipe slider) but not needed if coming from a stock rom.
6. Install LG-H81520D-Flashable.COMPLETE.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
7. Install SuperSu zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
8. After zips finish flashing you can reboot! (if TWRP asks if you want to install SU, HIT NO!!!)
Please do not mirror my files!

Downgrade:
To downgrade you can use TWRP to restore your backups... and then just flash the matching bootloader zip and modem zip from my previous threads... or just check the CODEFIRE DIRECTORY link for previous stock files.
OR
Use LGUP HERE to flash a previous KDZ version. KDZ will remove TWRP but easy enough to reinstall that.

@autoprime a question: I flashed the "complete zip" over 20C. it is all ok but the /cust partition has remained that of 20C. Is it a problem? I'm going to delete all file and directory in /cust. Anyway in "settings-->phone info--->software" it show 20D!
I'm thinking to download the KDZ and extract the /cust and copy it with "es gestore file". Is It useless? Is it good for something ?

A: @Paolo83 If it says 20D in settings then you're fine. What makes you think it's the 20C cust anyway?
The dates of the files inside the cust partition should be Jan 15th. It's possible cust from 20C is the same in 20D. I never touched the 20C files and have included the 20D cust in the COMPLETE zip. But yes, you could always just delete the cust partition as well.

@autoprime this occurred after use of 20d KDZ, going from 20b TWN
This happened while selecting "Upgrade" in LGUP
Is this methd ONLY for Sprint variations, or is this sop for all versions

A: @TonyStark Seems LG went out of their way this time to annoy the other variants 20D wasn't released for. Not abnormal tho... and fortunately shouldn't mess with the user experience other than the popup after boot up. The cust partition has a "whitelisted" set of mcc/mnc combos it looks for and if your device isn't on that list it'll throw up that warning message. Without root there's not much one can do.
As for the Sprint method you mentioned... it's sorta specific for Sprints model. H815 and other international models have no issues downgrading via LGUP and any KDZ. Sprint also had some weirdness because people were using to using older DLL's and the older LG Flash method which stopped working once the move to M 6.0 was made... so had to redirect users to start considering LGUP instead. But with every international (Non-USA) model... LGUP + any KDZ should be no problem... tho when downgrading a factory reset/data wipe will probably be needed... when upgrading it's optional.

A: 20E is real.. but it was built Jan 16th.. a day after 20D. It's the exact same thing as 20D but for Orange and possibly other EU carriers. Modem build is the same as 20D. Google Security Patch version is also the same: Jan 2016. I see no reason to use 20E over 20D unless you're an Orange user who can grab this directly from LG Bridge.

Ok. I have this question (might be stupid, but still) - I have a G4, unlocked bootloader and rooted. If I flash these files over, is the new bootloader going to be unlocked as well, or it will bring the phone to stock variant? I am asking this, because I had some minor issues with the phone and I want to change it in the store, but if they see the unlocked bootloader, my warranty will not be valid.

You sure didn't.
There's no mention on flashing bootloader and modem.
The complete rom already has that as stated.
It only says to flash complete rom and supersu for those who want root, and for those who don't just use kdz file.
Read again.
Flashing now, will update in a minute.
Edit1 : flash was a bit slow (to be expected) but first boot was rather quick, just waiting for "android is upgrading" to complete now.
Edit2: up and running, root working fine.

If one of it's installation steps is to be fully unrooted first and the boot image should be stock.
I already rooted and modified the boot image as for this device we need to flash a file to the boot.img to stop the device from encrypting the internal storage to be able to mount it.

By Odin flash TWRP, copy the Magisk file to the memory of the phone or to the SD card and Magisk flash by TPWR recovery.
When you restart, install the Magisk manager apk and that's it.

This is normal and it happened because you flashed the AP file only
If you want to get rid of these Russian providers menus and have stock settings menu you need to flash the full rom files (BL+AP+CP+CSC) via Odin.

Many people reported that the Russian firmware is working flawlessly on A320FL Model and no one mentioned any issues during the flash process.
For me, first time i flashed the rom the flash progress stopped near the end because i was using the 3.10.7 (not 3.12.7 as you mentioned) version just like you.
After using the 3.12.3 version it worked perfectly.
So you nead to use the latest version of Odin (3.12.3)
Whether this method can be applied in galaxy a7 2017 running in nougat?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Model SM-T875 finally Rooted

Hello. I have managed to Root My Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Model SM-T875 with KNOX value 0x1 and no custom recovery has been installed. I am linking an image from Root Checker
bit.ly/3kOE6NW
Sorry for bitly link guys, this is my first post so not allowed to post url, pls understand
Only for SM-T875
If you have any other models, let me know, I will patch their boot.tar and provide link for the same
Steps for root :
Download and install the latest version of Magisk Manager
Make sure you have an unlocked boot loader
On your PC, download Odin and put your S7 into download mode
Flash the tar file listed here
I am linking the exact boot.tar image I used
bit.ly/3j4mYDw
Sorry for bitly link guys, this is my first post so not allowed to post url, pls understand
In Odin, select the AP option, make sure ur tab is connected in COM1 and then select the boot.tar file. Once flashed, you have to restart your device.
NOTE
Once this boot.img file is flashed you will get this an error saying your device is not on official firmware and you will have to hard reset your device, go ahead and hard reset your device, you might think its in bootloop but it is not. Once hard reset is done, your device will boot twice, make sure to press the power button each time to skip the unlocked bootloader warning. Once done, set up your tab as new one. Now Magisk Manager will not be installed on your device. For root , go ahead and install Magisk Manager again and this time Magisk will be installed in your device and your Knox value will be 0x1 and warranty will be void and device will be rooted
If any questions, please feel free to ask
Hope this helped you
Did someone confirmed?*I wait to got the root before to buy this model specifically

Unfortunately no.
I have T875 TabS7 brand new I have Build number
QP1A.190711.020.T875XXU1ATI4 and device says upd are available ATJ4 Something. with october patch. The boot image you have linked is of which firmware ?. Should I update and then root.
EDIT:
Anyways i followed this guide by Dr ketan for rooting which i used for my Note 20 Ultra and it didnt work with patching AP file method.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-20-ultra/how-to/guide-how-to-root-n20-ultra-t4147023
So i downloaded the latest firmware which was ATJ4 my CSC version was CAC so i downloaded same firmware from SAMFW(super website with downloads resumable via google drive option.
1. I extracted boot.img.lz4 from AP file of stock firmware downloaded and made a TAR file of it with 7Zip
2. Put it in phone and used magisk manager on tab to patch this file
3. Copy back to PC and flash via odin 3.14.3 in AP tab and uncheck auto reboot in ODIN
4. Booted straight into stock recovery and wiped/factory reset
5. Now i have root on Tab S7 T785.

I have the Tab S6 and I love it. I am thinking to buy the Tab S7+. I was very quick to root the Tab S6 and did not take much notice of the Knox trip. Is there any sell value if the tablet cannot have certain apps working such as secure folder? I understand even if you unroot and relock the bootloader then knox is still going to be changed to 0x1

Question ROOT A32 4G

Many users report imei errors months after rooting. I don't recommend rooting. we do not know the origin of the problem
Hi friends.
On Topjohnwu's github, there´s a note about root any Samsung without recovery
Basically, extract the AP from stock firmware, copy it to phone, install magisk from xda forum, patch it, download the patched file to your pc and flash it using Odin.
You must fresh flash the entire ROM and the patched AP, userdata MUST be formatted (use CSC, not HOME_CSC)
Use it at your own risk, Knox wil be tripped and you could brick your phone.
Search the note into Topjohnwu´s github, Magisk section, Install and search for specific samsung section.
Be careful and enjoy rooting!

Here's my story, I patched the AP file and flashed it using odin, didn't add any other stock firmware files. I was able to attain root privileges, then the unthinkable happened. I received a call and it got disconnected instantly. The network signals vanished, I restarted the phone and was welcomed with a flash notification message "IMEI null or invalid."
I've since flashed it 10-12 times.
IMEI hasn't been restored, wifi works though.
I've given up hope now, my daughter attends her school classes on it.
I have never heard of such a case. Where did you get the boot.img from? It must be the same version as your phone. I recommend you flash a clean software by Odin, without root, and verify that everything is normal

Also, in addition to the patched AP file do we need to flash the BL, CP and CSC files?
Yep no issues. Magisk hide, all working.
When you extracted the boot img, there where another files into the AP file provided by samsung that must be flashed too.
Do you have the patched file? Try flashing BL, CP, CSC and AP and then flash again only the patched boot.img into AP.
But I think it has nothing to the root with loose of imei.
Was your phone a company one? Like verizon, etc?

No, it's unlocked. Did you patch the whole AP file or just the boot file through magisk? I patched the entire AP file. If you could please list all the steps, it would be a huge help. Thanks.

I saw a video of rooting the f62, here's the link. Please take a look and let me know if the steps are the same.
